Cats and Sunbeams: an OTP for the Ages

So! Surgery! Fun stuff, yeah?

Bleh. But hopefully worth it.

It’s behind me now, though, yay! I’m finally getting to where I don’t spend a good portion of my day in bed. I couldn’t be happier. My cats are also ecstatic.

And I’ll tell you, I’ll be happy for some peace. It’s been quite a struggle, getting sleeping space on my own bed during the day. You see, it’s positioned perfectly to catch the morning sunlight from one window (helping me, in normal times, to drag my butt out of bed) and the afte...

Queer Eye for the Straight Kitchen

I have, from the moment I watched my first episode, loved Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. It’s about making a lasting, positive change in someone’s life, helping the “victim” explore himself, expand his horizons, get moving to the next level of being the best he can be, carefully matched to the person he is now.

Blame the lack of coherent thought for weeks if I’m not getting it across. But much of reality TV is people competing against each other, with all the nasty stuff that comes with it (S...

KD’s Around Here Somewhere

Pain medicine is a marvelous thing when one is in pain, but neither pain nor the antidote leave a lot of brain for blogging. Also my fingers keep going funky. So here I am–reporting in, and running out.

A few slightly random observations:

Nurses are the best of us. I am SO NOT KIDDING here. How they stay smiling, and gentle, and careful and caring of your pain no matter what…I’m grateful. Becky and Emily in Pre-Op, Lisa and Summer my OR nurses, the young lady in post-op whom I was never clear e...

The Regret When You Get Up Too Early

I woke up at 5 a.m. to take my antibiotic. Stumbled into the bathroom, stumbled back out, crawled into bed…and couldn’t get back to sleep. I tried–I’m having surgery in a few days and it’d be smart to be well-rested to give my immune system maximum support. Also, it’s the weekend. Also also, sleep. But it didn’t work. All the things I could/should do kept running through my head. I sat up. I felt pretty good. It was two hours before I meant to get up, but I had slept for six hours. That’s dec...

For Future Reference

One should never leave ten voice-recording homework assignments for the last night.

First, they have to be written. Then they have to be recorded. And no matter how frantically one may have been editing which caused the procrastination, one really does NOT want to be fighting it out with all the software that has to work together in order to record one’s homework twenty minutes before it is due.

…so yeah. One should never do that.

Beware of Invisibility and KD

This is Professor Emerson F. Snugglekins. He has come to join the squid on my bed. Professor Snugglekins† is a gift from a dear lady who hopes my surgery goes well and I recover quickly. Also fuck you. (it’s an in-joke. We’re friends. We can do that.)

I’m posting Mr. Snugglekins because he’s adorable. Also to let everyone know that in the busy week prior to (that’s this week) and the (hopefully brief) recovery time after, I’ll be around less and when I am around it’s possible I might be stoned...

Procrastination Help

I mean, help for procrastinators! Pretty sure nobody actually needs help to procrastinate…

Anyway. I use Chrome to surf the web, and I use the web to procrastinate. Whoo boy, do I ever! Especially Tumblr, and that one game I play on Facebook…

Meet my new best friend. Found it in the Chrome app store (for FREE.)

stayfocusd 1

This lovely app has been on my browser for a while, but it’s only in the last week that I’ve been desperate enough to use it. Let me give you a tour of its features, may I? Did I mention...

Who Has Time to Blog?

No, seriously. Algebra, Spanish, editing, work, child, housework, sleep–who the freak has time to sneeze, let alone blog?

So yeah. Still here. Still going. I’ll come up for air soon! I hope. ;)

In the meantime…

Why Armed Guards Aren’t the Answer

I ought to be doing about a gazillion other things, but people are being stupid on the internet. I must answer! Mustn’t I?

Anyway. So the NRA, which really ought to know better, claims to think that armed guards in schools are the answer.

Do me a favor, any rational human being reading this. Think of the schools you went to. Think how each was laid out, how long it took to get from one end to the other.

Let me offer a visualization. This is a K-8 here in Tucson. Nearly nine hundred kids, and at...

Weekend of ACCOMPLISHING STUFF

Weekend, yay! I’ve been needing it all week! When you start on Monday afternoon going “it really needs to be Friday,” you can guess the rest of the week is not going to be peachy. I spent much of it going “I’ll get that this weekend” and then fretting that my weekend would be miserable. But what could I do? I know it would probably be fatal to get behind in Algebra, I had to deal with house things before things started falling over or exploding…

Yesterday I had a list that had me worried.

Study...
