An Excerpt From My Cowboys Story

I’ve been wanting to post an excerpt, but I had other things I needed to do. Today, at last, I’m making real progress–so I get to share.

This is serious first draft material. That means some names and details might change, not that it’s unreadable. ;)

Hope you like it.

On the third day after Ms. MacGregor’s surgery, Joseph was assigned to work with Cal once more. The damn man snapped at him twice before they even reached the paddock, and Joseph’s patience was already gone with everyone else’...

Show Turtleduck Press Your Stuff!

After all, we at TDP have shown you some of ours. ^__^

Eee, I’m so excited! Check this out!

It’s been nearly three years since I joined with Siri Paulson, Erin Kendall Zarro, and Kit Campbell to launchTurtleduck Press. I became a published author when Knight Errant set sail with Hidden Worlds and Life as a Moving Target. I was so scared/excited/exhilarated/exhausted!

That was then. In the seven books, many free stories, and lots of blog posts since, we fourhave learned much and had a great time...

Almost Ten Years

Next month this blog celebrates ten years. It’s pretty impressive, I think. If I remember (there’s always the chance it’ll slip my mind), it will be big. There might even be cupcakes.

But in the meantime I shall slump away and study for my algebra final rather than blogging any more today.

Sigh.

Some Research

This is a supercell over Montana.

Supercell

This is the sort of thing I’m looking at lately. Also this.

There comes a point, though, when if I ever want to get done, I have to stop researching everything. I have now passed that point. I accept full blame for any and all screw-ups before and after that point–but I hope everyone understands that I’ve got to get done.

’cause I think this story’s awesome, and I want to share. :)

A Week Left in the Semester!

Remember back when I started last fall I was all

spinning cat bowl

That first semester went great. Vacation was awesome. Bring on the new semester!

Then I had surgery. And had to get Donte put together and out. And had all these things to do and no time to do it and still the homework kept coming.

Then I was all

fuck this cat pushes things

So. Here we are. A week (officially ten days, but all my stuff is due sooner) left in the semester. And then I will be

When @Literarygrrrl Met @KDSarge Over Iced Coffee

Because sometimes we have to toss the to-do list aside and follow a whim.

Inspired by this conversation (read from the bottom up)

Warnings: I do not actually know if @Literarygrrrl has mad Frisbee skillz. Also I rarely wear a scarf.

Sitting alone at a table in a sidewalk café, @KDSarge tweeted “Paris beautiful, café lovely, waiter sexy. How do I order an iced coffee with a side of hot server?

Summer Is Coming

Summer must be near. The temperature is rising, the kids at school are getting restless, and my To-Be-Read pile is growing.

The first two signs are fairly obvious, but it’s taken me a while to catch on to the third. Apparently as summer approaches, I collect books.I don’t think about it, but I seem to do it every year.I stack newly-borrowed, bought or stolen books around me at my desk, as I work on whatever I desperately need to get done now, and sometimes in procrastination-moments I rearrang...

Okay, maybe not life-changing. But just…well, watch. You need to see this.

See? Told you so.

Some Straight Talk about Gay Kids

Look, gang. I like when people find my blog because they’re looking for my books. That’s lovely.

Seeking rants on the awesome of Tom Hiddleston? I’m glad to see those hits too.

Checking out Blake Snyder’s Beat Sheet? More power to you. I love it and I think you will too.

But when day after day hits come from someone searching “how young does a child know he’s gay?” and the like?

gay kids search

That’s both wonderful and depressing.

I hope when people find me that way they stay to read, that they are comforted, th...

The Fire in Fiction: Book Review

fire in fictionDonald Maass is a master. I think a lot of people have long since agreed on that. He’s seen a lot of great and not-so-great books go by, and he’s learned to see the differences. I’ve been meaning to get my hands on his books for a VERY long time. (Fun fact–I once DID get my hands on Writing the Breakout Novel, and bought it. I was on my way to lunch with a friend when I stopped by the bookstore for a minute, and an hour later in a fit of generosity I loaned the book to my friend before I’d do...
