Knight Errant

Taro’s got a secret…

Taro Hibiki owes his new sister, former Marine Eve Marcori, more than just his life. She’s given him everything—a home, a family, a future—and she’s working on sending him to college. Taro would rather be shot, but he’ll honor his debt or die trying.

When Taro’s honor—and the rest of him—meet Rafe Ballard, death just might be the outcome. Rafe threatens everything Taro has come to rely on, and he’s not even trying.

What are readers saying?

“Things go from bad to worse for Tar...

Chronology of the Dream’verse

In my reading, I’ve often wished for a timeline for more complicated universes, so I feel I should offer one. The timeline I use myself has more details (bwahahaha) but this one is still helpful, I think. Some of the dates are notexact, but they are close enough. (Horse shoes and hand grenades, right?)

Click on the timeline to drag. Also, nothing actually happened in 1928 as far as I know. The program is not made for far-in-the-future SF timelines so the century is wrong, but all the decades a...

Never Gonna Give You Up, Never Gonna Sell You Out

Okay, so I sorta rick-rolled you there. I’m (sorta) sorry.

Things are going to be changing around here, hopefully for the better. If I make a change you don’t like or that breaks something, please tell me!

So why the changes? Well, for the longest time, I’ve been afraid of going too far with the actual selling of my books. What if I annoy people? What if they think I’m spamming them? I was so intent on keeping my personal and professional internetting apart that my website was almost completely...

Cut the Icky!

On my twitter stream this morning, someone compared writing a novel to giving birth, painful but exhilarating. Editing, according to this tweet, is the clean up after giving birth. Not fun, but necessary.

Cue my completely inappropriate brain, envisioning a masked surgeon standing over a table with a marker going “no, no, that finger is totally ridiculous, we’ll have to put something else there.”

I’m not calling anyone wrong. Maybe some people do edit just by taking out the trash, but that’s no...

Why “Bitch” Just Won’t Cut It

Editing continues to make me want to pull my hair out. Today I ran into an issue.

Foul language ahoy! Or ahead, which is rather more accurate.

≈≈:=> §

The book I’m editing is in Taro’s POV, and Taro swears. A lot. It’s the way he is. He enjoys it, he’s good at it, and hey–if it makes people underestimate his intelligence, all the better. At least he’s not one of those people who swears every other word, right? †

In Knight Errant, Taro was sixteen. I worried about alienating readers with too many...

Do NOT Pick Up that Can

So I’ve been having a bit of a rough time lately. Things in life are just…coming together in bad ways, and I can only handle so much. I’ve learned over the years there are times I’ve just got to be gentle with myself.

Housework can be done in bits. When I go in the bathroom to feed the cat, I can scrub the toilet then. Next time, I’ll scoop the litterbox. Time after that, I’ll wipe the mirror. It works. I can do thirty seconds of work at a time.

Grocery shopping? Also done in bits. Stop here af...

Missing Taro and Rafe?

Taro and Rafe are two of my favorite characters, and a lot of my readersfeel the same. So I’m happy to be working on another book featuring my troublemaking boys.

Have a snippet of what was going to be Damsel in Distress, but will probably not actually have that title. Warning for language, because Taro.

When I walked into the trattoria, some lady in a sparkly dress gasped and covered her mouth. Too late, I realized I should have come through the back door. Every table was full of dressed-up pe...

MOAR KITTENS!

We’re fostering more orphan kitties for the Humane Society. :)

Vlad is the little man with the V between his eyes. The other, doing the faceplant as she likes to do, is Gizmo. They are three weeks old, and have to be bottle-fed about every four hours.

Man, I don’t know how we stand the cute.

Headline: Obligatory Vacation Picture Post Turns into Rant

So we’re back from Pinetop. Here are some obligatory pictures. Not too many, because I didn’t take a ton and also I’m too tired still to put a lot of work into posting.

The child met a squirrel. This picture is from after she petted it. I did the dutiful mom thing and yelled at her not to touch the wildlife, but inside I was thinking “at least it’s not venomous!” and thinking of Rafe and giggling.

One of her goals for this vacation was to climb a tree. She had a lot of help (she stepped on me!)...

Greetings from Pinetop!

Just checking in from this gorgeous pine-tree-filled place I find myself in. I’d post a picture but mostly I’ve been enjoying rather than taking pictures. Also, my camera is about twenty feet away and the cord to plug it to the laptop farther.

I’m just too lazy to deal with that right now.

So, quick and simple–Village Grill has amazing sandwiches, and the fresh ice cream at Mountain Dream Creamery is better than Cold Stone with comparable prices. Pine trees are a sight for sore eyes, and blue j...
