another exciting friday night
i’m doing my taxes ’cause I get money back. typing in all lower case because i aggravated my carpal tunnel (i think) and stretching for the shift key hurts. yes, i know i’m supposed to hit shift with the hand not typing a letter. i’ve never done it that way. shhh…
friday night and all i really want to do is sleep. there’s nothing wrong with that. it’s been a rough week. i need to recover. tomorrow and sunday will be full of editing, or so i hope.
yeah. onwards. sleep well, friends.

I Don’t Blog Right
I was thinking about this, and really–I don’t blog right.
It’s rare for me to use headers to break up my text.
Remind readers that I have books right over here?Hardly ever do that, either. Never remember to ask readers to review on Goodreads or LibraryThing.
Somehow I don’t think to talk about Turtleduck Press and Kit Campbell’s latest book, Shards. Don’t tend to mention Erin Zarro’s Fey Touched either.
And I can’t remember the last time I pointed out that if you don’t want to buy from Amazon, yo...

Aftermath, or My House is a Not a Haven
Life goes on…
I haven’t watched TV in a while so I don’t know if they still do it, but remember when a TV show would do a “very special episode” about something serious? Maybe one of the kids would have a brush with underage drinking, or mostly by luck evade a pedophile. Before the episode, the cast would talk about how it dealt with serious issues and they hoped it would start a dialogue in your household. And then in half an hour, or at most an hour, the Serious Issue was dealt with, survive...

They Don’t Have a Fucking Picture!
Half the internet (I wish) and every tattoo artist on 4th Avenue has pictures of Hope but I realized this morning that the police do not. The first officer to respond did not ask for one. When I realized this and called to find out how to GET pictures to them, I was told “well, ma’am, they HAVE her description!” Then I was distracted by a false lead and forgot to follow up.
Let’s play a guessing game. How many 5 foot 6 average build females who look 13-18 live in this city?
I have just called t...

My Daughter is Missing
Yesterday my daughter ran away to chase her dream (being a rock star) even though she can’t sing or play. She’s barely fifteen, and apparently she’s headed to California. All her friends seem as surprised as I am.
All I can think is she found a “helpful” new friend who offered to get her to California. I’m so scared I can barely see straight.
The police tell me she’s in the national database. If you see her, please call 911 wherever you are.
This is Hope, picking out a $40 pumpkin. Click on any...

Even in the Future, Not Everyone Has Everything and It Doesn’t All Work Either
I’m editing my first NaNovel right now. I’m thinking about how a restaurant would work in the future, what would actually change, and really, in the background…? I’m thinking not so much.
Tomatoes still have to be chopped, cheese shredded, dishes washed. Sure, machines exist to do these things, but machines cost money that maybe a restaurant owner wouldn’t have to invest. And on a frontier planet with lots of eager workers (which means cheap labor) and high import costs, why wouldn’t you just...

Still Here
Holy robot-building cats, this has been a week.
Swear I’ll get on with the Shelfie Challenge soon, and the editing, and the babbling about things random and not. It’s a busy week but I’m getting things under control (I hope) and I’ll be back soon!
In the meantime, check out this awesome version of Adam Lambert’s “Runnin’.” It’s acoustic! He’s so freaking amazing.

Shelfie Challenge: Gryphon’s Eyrie
Gryphon’s Eyrie is the last book in the trilogy. Andre Norton wrote it with A.C. Crispin. I don’t know how anyone writes with anyone else, so I’ll be paying attention to see if I can catch them in the act.
That, or I’ll be completely sucked in as usual. I’m not good at standing outside a novel.

Did I really just read Gryphon’s Eyrie in less than six hours? Yes, I think I did.
Did not catch Andre Norton and A.C. Crispin in the act of writing back and forth. Did notice that I very much en...
Year of No Fear
So way back in 2011, I posted my manifesto. I put it in a document, picked out fonts I liked, and posted it around my house on purple paper.
As with many things we see every day, eventually I barely noticed it. However, Erin Zarro is doing a Year of No Fear, and I want to join in, so I guess it’s time to revisit that.
1. To WRITE, not play on the internet. I have not been doing so hot at this. One of the things I’ll be doing today or tomorrow is adjusting my Internet Blocking Programs to deal w...

Shelfie Challenge: Gryphon in Glory
Predictably, next in my reading was Gryphon in Glory, the second book in the trilogy. I haven’t read it as many times (because for a long time I did not know that The Crystal Gryphon had a sequel) so it’s not as much of a remembered favorite.
I remember how Andre Norton enraptured me as a pre-teen, and then she does it again. I am most certainly not wasting my time with this dive into the world I have always loved.
Thoughts from Gryphon in Glory… They didn’t have a direct quest in mind. Things...
