Finding Work You Will Love

Finding Work You Will Love | Lynn A. Robinson

We’ve all heard the admonition “Do what you love and the money will follow.”
I’ve never heard anyone disagree with that thought, but frankly, I know a lot of people who are making money doing what they don’t love!

This isn’t unusual, and you may be saying to yourself right now, “Wait a minute! I have to make a living. I don’t have the luxury of ‘doing what I love.’”

But what if you had a choice? What if you could find a way to discover something you’d actually love doing that would also create a very nice income? Sound good? Let me help you get there with these questions that have helped countless people discover work they love. Write down your answers and prepare to be surprised!

What are your gifts?
What life achievements or accomplishments have made you feel proud?
What abilities do you have that people praise?
What tasks or skills come easily to you? Make a list of things you do well.
What were you good at as a child?
If someone were to give your eulogy, what contributions would they say you have made to the world?
What are you passionate about?
What do you do that makes you lose track of time?
If you had enough money to take a year off, what would you do with your free time?
Is there something you want to devote your life to?
How can you help others by doing what you enjoy?
If you could make one contribution to the world before you die, what would it be?
What do you want to teach others?
What excites or angers you most about our world?

What are your values?

What matters most to you? Consider values like: autonomy, humanity, creativity, kindness, power, wealth, spirituality knowledge, leadership, community, beauty, and intellectual pursuits.
Who do you admire? What is it about their life that you appreciate? What values do you think they hold?

What’s fun for you?

What are twenty, fifty or one hundred things you love to do? Make a list.
How would you spend your ideal day?
Do you enjoy doing things by yourself, with a partner or with a team?
What kind of setting do you like to be in? Are you an outdoor person or more comfortable behind a desk? Consider your surroundings when imagining your fun, ideal life.

Look carefully at your answers and see if you can spot any themes that emerged, or “aha!” moments that surprised you. And keep in mind that the answer to “What’s my life’s purpose and how can I make a living at it” may not come overnight. Patience, after all, really is a virtue. I like what Napoleon Hill, author of “Think and Grow Rich,” had to say about it: “Patience, persistence, and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.”

Good luck with your search! And please remember, this little quiz is hugely important. After all, you’re looking for the life you were born to live.

What to Do When Life Gets Crazy!

What to Do When Life Gets Crazy! | Lynn A. Robinson

We all have these times in life when things get a little out-of-control.
These are usually events that seem to come out of nowhere or simply tip the balance of an already stressful time. It could be an illness, a shift in a relationship, an accident or a change at work.

I’ve been having one of those times in the past year. It’s been interesting to put all of my intuition and personal growth practices into play to stay as centered as possible. Many of the things that have been happening are good things — I wrote and published two books ( Divine Intuition and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Psychic Intuition .) My husband and I talked about downsizing and began recycling twenty years + of stuff that we had
accumulated. I travelled and worked in Japan during the month of November. However, even good things can also be stressful! Added to this, my elderly parents have been in and out of the hospital and we finally made the decision to put my mom in hospice.

One of my favorite intuition techniques is to place my hand over my heart and simply ask, “What am I yearning for?” The answer popped into my mind immediately. It was peace, calm, fun and adventure.

We have now sold our house. We’re moving in May to Cape Cod (the southeastern coast of Massachusetts. I’m feeling very excited about having fun, creating adventures and meeting new people. The Cape is a place of quiet nature, known for miles of bike and walking trails through conservation land. . I’m also adding a small meditation space to my new digs!

What else helped me get through these trying times? Here are four ideas for you to try…
1) It Will All Work Out
During this time of immense change, I found myself walking around saying, “I’m so stressed!” “I’m so stressed!” All I got in doing that was more stress! I finally caught myself and decided to shift my thinking. It helps to remember that most of the crises in life are self-limiting. Phrases like, “This will all work out.” “Let me just go with the flow.” And, “I’m open to life’s possibilities” were some of my favorites. I also kept reminding myself to not resist the changes; they were there to lead me to a more expanded and happier state if I could allow it.
2) Have Fun!
Winston Churchill once noted, “If you’re going through hell, keep going!” There’s no need to stay stuck in your awful situation. Whatever it is, it can co-exist with something upbeat, energizing and fun. What’s fun for you? Depending on your circumstances it can be as simple as walking the dog, dancing to some music, sitting in your yard with a cup of coffee and listening to the bird’s sing. Make a list! Do at least one a day. You’ll feel better and so will everyone around you. Enlist their help.
3) You Only Have to Know One Thing
Another one of my favorite intuition techniques when I’m overwhelmed (or feeling stuck) is to close my eyes, take a deep, relaxing breath and ask, “What’s my right next step?” Usually an answer comes to me quickly. Sometimes an intuitive response will pop into my mind later in the day when I least expect it. I like this technique because sometimes the next step is all we need to know!
4) It’s Normal to Feel Scared
Former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt wrote, “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, “I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.” Fear is not something you fight. It’s something you make room for in your life. Embrace it and make it your ally, not your enemy.

The Top Five Ways to Manage Change

The Top Five Ways to Manage Change | Lynn A. Robinson

I’m noticing so much change going on in the lives of clients, friends, family and me! We’re all human. We ALL have our ups and downs. I’d like to suggest that instead of fighting and resisting these inevitable challenges, you discover a way to embrace them.
I interviewed many people who were going through a life transition (divorce, job change, health challenge, etc.) for my book,  Listen: Trusting Your Inner Voice in Times of Crisis.  Here are the top five suggestions they had for making this time of change a little easier.
1) Discover Spiritual Sustenance
Prayer, meditation, down-time, spending time in nature, asking for intuitive guidance and reading inspirational books were the most frequently mentioned ways to acknowledge and flow with the tough times.
Prayer and meditation soften our hearts. It is most often done in moments of silence. Prayer requires a vulnerability and openness to make way for something new. It may be a new idea, a belief, or simply a shift in consciousness that allows you to see the world through different eyes.
2) Use a Favorite Affirmation
Affirmations can be simple, positive phrases that describe the life you want. Or, they can be a powerful expression that helps you feel calmer during times of stress.Common ones that people used were:

“Every day in every way, my life is getting better and better.”
“Things have a way of working out for me.”
“My intuition is my guide and I take time to listen within.”
“I let go and let God.”
“I am calm and relaxed as I move through my day.”

3) Do Something Fun Every Day
When life throws you a curveball, it’s all too easy to let it ruin your day.  If that happens to you consistently, consider making a list of small pleasures. These can be your go-to items when a challenge arises. These don’t need to be expensive or time-consuming. Favorite items that my interviewees noted were:

Having coffee with a friend.
Making time to read an enjoyable book.
Watching a funny movie.
Taking a short walk.
Treating myself to a manicure.
Going out for ice cream.
Taking a bike ride.
Playing with a child.
Spending time in the garden.
Cranking up some tunes and dancing.

4) Remember: This Too Shall Pass
Most likely you’ve gone through a life transition before. It could be a positive but anxiety-producing time such as graduating from college, getting a first job, or becoming a new parent. What helped you then?
Each time you face a new challenge, remember to concentrate on the skills, talents and resources that enabled you to survive the last rough patch. Life does change, and usually for the better. Be patient as life unfolds.
5) Embrace All That Life Offers
What if the current challenge you’re facing were meant for your good? Albert Einstein asked the famous question, "Is the Universe a friendly place?" I say YES! The change you’re experiencing is a letting go of the old and a making way for the new. Embrace all that comes your way. Know that you are being led to even more expansion, more love, more joy. Know that God is with you and guiding your path. Tune in and listen for that still, quiet voice within. The answers you seek are there.

Prayers and Affirmations for Jobs and Money

Prayers and Affirmations for Jobs and Money | Lynn A. Robinson

I wrote an article in 2001 that I called simply, “The Prosperity Prayer.” It’s been sent around the world via email, websites and in magazine articles many, many times since then. I still hear from people who gave been blessed by the prayer. They report unexpected money, work, and various miracles that have come their way after saying the prayer.

I believe that we live in an abundant universe. I believe in a loving God that wants us to be happy, joy-filled, at peace, and abundant. We can stay open to God’s guidance through prayer and listening for the wisdom within — intuition.

I like the idea of affirmations and I’ve used them over many years to help me stay in a positive place regarding money, work and career. Please feel free to change any of the words so that they resonate with your own belief system.

God, I am open to your Divine abundance. I welcome it with open heart and open arms.

I am grateful for each day. I keep my focus on all the blessings I have in this rich life — good friends, health, rewarding work and abundance.

Thank you God for Your spirit that surrounds, fills, prospers and blesses my life.

I know that I am being guided towards my true purpose and mission. God, show me my right next steps. I am listening.

I thank You, God, for your prospering ideas. I make time each day to be still and listen. My every need is being supplied and I am blessed.

Your love and presence is within me, and all around me. Creative energy and prospering ideas come to me now and throughout the days to come.

Amen

Digital Autographs, Virtual Bookcases and More

Digital Autographs, Virtual Bookcases and More | Lynn A. Robinson

How things have changed since the first edition debuted!
Divine Intuition: Your Guide to Purpose, Peace and Prosperity, Revised and Updated  is available in hardcover, ebook, and audio book formats. I loved experimenting with all of the exciting opportunities that today’s technology offers book lovers. Here’s a roundup of the new ways I’ve celebrated my book in the 2013 publishing world:
Can you autograph...my ebook?
Authorgraph.com is an amazing new site that I’m proud to be a part of. I hope it catches on! I think everyone with an e-reader should sign up immediately! Simply log in with your email or a Twitter account and you can request personalized inscriptions and autographs straight from the author. People bemoan the demise of the written word, and I’m as nostalgic as any reader, but it’s things like this that remind me how much more connected we are these days - in the best sense. Request my John Hancock today!
Read anything good lately?
Reading is just about the most social of any solitary activity I can think of. In fact, the topic of literature is pretty much the shortcut to any reader’s heart, even the most introverted. People love to share what they read, to dissect every last detail in book clubs, to sneak a peek at the cover when someone reads in public, to gab with other patrons at the library checkout desk (with the occasional “Shh!” from a librarian). Now the bookworms have plugged in and signed on, with an array of wonderful social networking sites devoted to books, and Divine Intuition is proudly represented on all of them. People swap recommendations, reviews, ratings, favorite quotes, and much more. Once you request an invitation, Riffle is a wonderful app and syncs with Facebook. Shelfari is integrated with Amazon for easy purchasing when you’ve found your next read. Educator- and librarian-friendly, LibraryThing gathers together tons of extra information about the book — bonus stuff like reading guides and excerpts.  And Goodreads is renowned for its great freebies and contests!
Divine Intuition, as narrated by Lynn A. Robinson
Audiobooks have been a touchy subject among readers - you either love them or hate them. Typically they were mostly enjoyed by people with long commutes who were easily bored by the radio. Then came CDs, and digital radio stations that seemingly offered every song ever recorded. It seemed that audiobooks, like Eight Tracks, might become relics of a bygone age,. That is, until the iPod generation discovered them. And now in 2013, who doesn’t have an iPod, or some other miniature device fully loaded with audio entertainment? Well, get ready, because I have personally recorded Divine Intuition as an audiobook. And while I’m not considering an encore career as an actress, I hope you’ll enjoy the MP3 version!
