4 Ways to Get Through Dark Times

Dear Intuitive Seeker –

It was so gloomy when I woke up this morning. Dark, gray clouds loomed overhead with threats of snow. Ugh! Immediately my thoughts began to follow this low-spirited thread. I began to think disconsolately about the pandemic, the unkind turn the world has taken, a health scare for one of my good friends. I felt the negativity begin to consume my usual upbeat mood.

I decided to simply sit with all of this. Feel into it, not deny it. It didn’t feel good. I felt very “low vibration.” After a few minutes I simply asked myself, “what could I do to feel better?” It’s such a great question to ask one’s intuition.

I took a deep breath and exhaled. I immediately became aware of my cat contentedly purring next to me on the bed, and the aroma of fresh coffee my husband had just made. I looked out the window and saw birds happily eating the seeds I had put in the bird feeder the day before. I began to focus on what I wanted versus what I feared. “Keep moving” my inner voice whispered. “All will be well.”

Here are some ideas about how intuition can help you through dark times:

1. Make time for stillness.

So often your intuition is trying to communicate, but you’re not taking time to listen. What could you do today to carve out a few minutes to tune in? A walk? Meditate? Sit quietly to simply daydream? What would work for you to create that moment of peace?

2. Write in your journal.

One of my favorite questions to ask myself and my clients is “If someone could wave a magic wand over you and give you an ideal life, what would that look like?” I understand that this wonderful transformation will not happen immediately! But, thinking and writing about it gives your intuition a clue about how to guide you. Intuition is your inner GPS and you need to give it a destination.

3. Take inspired action.

Intuition will guide you via “aha” moments, an inner voice, a dream, an image or symbolic picture and/or an impulse to do something. We often ignore these nudges because we get scared. What has your intuition been encouraging you to do or try? Is there a small step you could take today? It’s normal to feel at least a little anxious when doing something new. Do it anyway.

4. Pay attention to your thoughts.

What you say to yourself matters. What you focus on expands. If you’re constantly focused on all the tough things in your life right now, they become a self-fulfilling prophecy. What are you grateful for? What could you be hopeful for in the future? Those are the thoughts to nurture.

You Can Co-Create With the Universe!

Dear Intuitive Seeker –

When you have learned how to decide with God, all decisions become as easy and as right as breathing. There is no effort, and you will be led as gently as if you were being carried down a quiet path to summer. — A Course in Miracles

I want to share a technique with you that I’ve been using for years. I feel it’s played a central role in manifesting miracles in my life. I have a box on a shelf in my home office that says “Help Wanted.” It sits by a lovely sculpture of a glass angel who watches over it. It contains letters I’ve sent to God. (Choose a word/concept that works for you, like Universe, All-That-Is, or Higher Power.)

Prayer is how we talk with God, and intuition is one of the ways we hear the response. I’m a bit of a pragmatist and sometimes I wonder if God has heard my prayers. So I devised a system that satisfied my need for some sort of a tangible signal that I was actually communicating with God. I wanted to know I had been heard. It works like this:

I write a letter to God telling him about my concerns. I always feel a sense of relief in writing these. It’s as if I’m talking with a good friend and sharing my concerns. I pour out my worries, fears and anxieties on the page. Then I go a step further. I make specific requests of God to help me in certain ways, always adding, “if this is in my highest interest.” I also like to add “Allow this to happen with grace and ease.”

Far be it from me to tell God what to do in my life! But I like to think God is interested in helping me with my specific concerns and will assist me in unique ways that I could never have come up with on my own. I figure that the Power that created the Universe and all its inhabitants will certainly know how to assist each of us in an easy and effortless way.

Creating Your Own “Help Wanted”

I don’t have a lot of rules for this. I believe that God hears your desires even if you haven’t expressed them as eloquently as you might have liked. You don’t have to be a good writer or speller. You can use a computer or write the requests in pen, pencil or crayons.

State your concerns. Dear God (Universe) – Here’s what I’m worried about. Write a few paragraphs.

Say what you want and make it as specific as possible. Don’t tell God how you want the answers to come. The Universe has amazing resources, well beyond our limited means, that can bring about miracles and fulfill our desires.

End with something that allows for the fact that God has a greater wisdom and may have better or different plans to resolve your issue. I conclude with “God, if the above is in my highest interest, please work with me to bring this into my life. Thank You for all Your blessings. I remain open to Your guidance and direction.”

Create a “mailbox” for your requests. I’ve had students who designed elaborate containers for their letters to God. They were beautifully painted works of art with inspiring words and symbols on them. Others have simply used a shoebox, a Tupperware container or a special journal. God doesn’t care what your mailbox looks like, but if it feels good to you to decorate it, please do!

Await a response. The answers come in varied ways depending on the nature of your request. You might want to keep notes of any and all indications that your request is being answered. Pay attention to any flashes of insight, coincidences, synchronicities, a persistent thought that nudges you in a new direction, or any flickers of enthusiasm to contact someone or to start on a specific plan of action. God will begin putting the right people, ideas and situations in your path so that your request will unfold in just the right way at just the right time and be a “win-win” solution for all involved.

Let me know how this works for you. I’d love to hear all the creative ways the Universe has responded to your requests.

In the Midst of Change? Here are 5 Powerful Ways to Thrive

Dear Intuitive Seeker –

We’re in a time of major upheaval and it’s affecting each of us in different yet profound ways. I’d like to suggest that instead of fighting and resisting these inevitable challenges, you discover a way to embrace them.

Here are my top five suggestions to learn to thrive in the midst of change:

1) Discover Spiritual Sustenance

Prayer, meditation, downtime, spending time in nature, asking for intuitive guidance, and reading inspirational books are some of the best ways to acknowledge and flow with the tough times.

Prayer and meditation soften our hearts. It is most often done in moments of silence. Prayer requires vulnerability and openness to make way for something new. It may be a new idea, a belief, or simply a shift in consciousness that allows you to see the world through different eyes.

2) Use a Favorite Affirmation

Affirmations can be simple, positive phrases that describe the life you want. Or they can be a powerful expression that helps you feel calmer during times of stress.

Common ones that people used are:

“Things have a way of working out for me.”“My intuition is my guide and I take time to listen within.”“Every day in every way, my life is getting better and better.”“I let go and let God.”“I am calm and relaxed as I move through my day.”

3) Do Something Fun Every Day

When life throws you a curveball, it’s all too easy to let it ruin your day.  If that happens to you consistently, consider making a list of small pleasures. These can be your go-to items when a challenge arises. These don’t need to be expensive or time-consuming. Here are some ideas:

Making time to read an enjoyable book.Watching a funny movie.Taking a short walk.Having coffee with a friend.Treating yourself to a manicure.Going out for ice cream.Taking a bike ride.Playing with a child.Spending time in the garden.Cranking up some tunes and dancing.

4) Remember: This too Shall Pass

Most likely you’ve gone through a life transition before. It could be a positive but anxiety-producing time such as graduating from college, getting a first job, or becoming a new parent. What helped you then?

Each time you face a new challenge, remember to concentrate on the skills, talents, and resources that enabled you to survive the last rough patch. Life does change, and usually for the better. Be patient as life unfolds.

5) Embrace All That Life Offers

What if the current challenge you’re facing were meant for your good? Albert Einstein asked the famous question, “Is the Universe a friendly place?” I say YES! The change you’re experiencing is a letting go of the old and a making way for the new. Embrace all that comes your way. Know that you are being led to even more expansion, more love, more joy. Know that God is with you and guiding your path. Tune in and listen for that still, quiet voice within. The answers you seek are there.

Do You Have a Bigger Calling?

Dear Intuitive Seeker –

Last week I gave a reading to a woman I’ll call “Leslie.” She was telling me how discouraged she felt. “I feel like I have a bigger calling. I want to do something with my gifts. I just can’t figure out how to get there so I just keep going back to the same old familiar life.” Does this sound like you?

One of the biggest challenges facing many of my clients is that they talk themselves out of their hopes and dreams before they even begin. They do this because they can’t figure out how to get to where they want to go. I’d like to propose a radical alternative. I don’t want you to try to figure out how to reach your goal. Let the Universe help you.

Here’s my theory — when you hold a strong desire or goal you send out a vibrational energy that the Universe wants to match. In other words, it wants to help you meet your goal. Your job is to be clear about what you want, to keep your focus off what you don’t want, and to take small steps each day based on what you feel excited about. That excitement is your intuition communicating with you. I also want you to visualize, affirm, feel and imagine your successful outcome.

My message to Leslie?

If something is in your heart that you feel excited about, you, (with the help of the Universe,) have the means to achieve it.

The Universe knows how to make your dream happen. Think of it as a kind of Divine Intelligence that has the necessary skills to bring together the exact set of circumstances you need to make your goals a reality. All the logic and intelligence you can muster may not be able to pave the way to this ultimate goal of yours as easily as the Universe can. Let Divine Intelligence do its job and orchestrate all the synchronicities, coincidences and circumstances that need to occur for you to create a life you love. Start today! What would be fun?

4 Powerful Ways to Invite Guidance and Simplicity

Dear Intuitive Seeker –

This past 18 months has been crazy for so many of us. You may have lost a job, or have kids you’re trying to home school, or been impacted by the pandemic in many subtle and not-so-subtle ways. None of us has ever been through this before!

I understand that I’m not exempt from life crises, pandemics and the vagaries of life. However, I write books and speak on the topic of creating a life you love. I realized I was telling myself, “I’m not supposed to be stressed!” Which only added to my stress. (What can I say? I’m human!)

It seems like a badge of honor these days to claim to be “crazy busy.” But when did that get to be a good thing?! One day I found myself so frazzled and overwhelmed I decided to do what I tell my clients to do. Meditate.

At first my mind was jumping around thinking of everything I wasn’t accomplishing on my “to do” list. I would think, “Slow down. Ommm…”

My brain would reply, “Remember to buy bananas, change the cat litter, return the call from the client who wants to change her appointment.” On and on the battle went. This was not producing the relaxation response I was seeking.

The Wisdom of the Inner Voice

Finally, after about ten minutes of struggle, something happened. I can only describe it as a wave of peace. The constant brain chatter stopped, and I felt like I was wrapped in a bubble of love and compassion. I continued to sit there almost in tears. Then I heard a voice. It said, “Lynn, let life be easy.”

I could feel a bit of defensiveness rise up in me. “But I have things to do! I have places to be! People are counting on me! What do you mean by “easy?!”

Again, the voice said, “Let life be easy.” All at once, I saw how stressed I had been. I became aware that all of the rushing around and carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders was no longer working. I saw then that I was pushing against the flow of life. I also understood that I couldn’t operate that way any longer.

Intuition often communicates through this inner voice. It also comes as an “aha moment” where you have an instant knowing about a situation. Part of the message I received was that God, (the Universe, Infinite Wisdom) was on my side. That our default position in life is health, love, prosperity, compassion and joy. When we are out of this flow of energy, we experience what was occurring in my life: stress, overwhelm and exhaustion. I needed to remember that life could be easy.

Here are four ideas to create ease and flow that came to me during my meditation:

1) Try This Powerful Spiritual Technique

Write a letter to God (Universe, Higher Self) describing your concerns and worries. Write it as if you’re talking with a good friend and sharing your concerns. Pour out your worries, fears and anxieties on the page.

Then go a step further.  Make a specific request of God to help you in a certain way. Yours might be “Help me to feel calm.”  If you’re worried about money, write “I am open to prosperity and abundance.” If you’re worried about a relationship, write “Please restore harmony and love between us.”

Add the words, “…if this is in my highest interest.” I like to think God wants to help us with our specific concerns and will assist us in unique ways that we could never have come up with on our own. Put these requests in a small box on your desk or nightstand. I label mine with the words “Surrender Box.”

I figure that the Power that created the Universe and all its inhabitants will certainly know how to assist each of us in an easy and effortless way.

2) Close Your Eyes and Listen

This one is deceptively simple. However, if you’re overwhelmed, you need something easy. When you find yourself feeling anxious and irritable, stop what you’re doing, close your eyes and take several slow, deep breaths. You may find it even more helpful to put your hand over your heart. It has a calming effect.

As you open the spaciousness of mind and heart for a change of perspective, ask yourself, “What would be helpful right now?” Listen for your intuition — the whisper of your inner voice. It may also come as a feeling, an image or a physical sensation. What answer do you receive? What step could you take based on this wisdom?

3) Choose a Calming Phrase

When you’re feeling agitated and anxious, it may help to bring to mind a line in the book A Course in Miracles, which says, “I could choose peace instead of this.” Take a few deep, calming breaths and ask yourself, “How else could I be thinking about this?” or “What would bring me peace in this situation?” Sometimes the best thing to say is the simplest, “This too shall pass.” Or, “It’s okay. I can deal with this.” Or my new favorite, “I’m willing to let this be easy.”

If a spiritual approach is comforting to you, simple phrases or mantras may be helpful to keep you centered and connected to Spirit. Here are some examples:

I am loved, protected and safe.I feel Divine peace flowing through me now.Peace be with me and also with you.Everything is okay. I slow down and appreciate all that I have.

4) Accept Things as They Are

Overwhelm often comes when we want things to be different from the way they are. Cultivate a sense of gratitude for what life brings to you. Whether you’re feeling panicked by deadlines at work, homework with the kids, or your upcoming doctor visit, it pays to bring awareness back to the matter at hand. It makes the task feel more achievable.

I like this quote from Douglas Bloch, who wrote, “As you begin to live in the present moment, you will experience a subtle but profound change. Worrying about the future will cease. A deep peace will enfold you, a peace that says, all is well. There is nothing to fear. Everything is unfolding according to plan, and you are being guided each step along the way.”

4 Powerful Confidence Boosters You Can Use Today

Dear Intuitive Seeker –

I’ve been giving intuitive readings for just over 35 years. I enjoy helping people get unstuck and able to move in a positive, life-affirming direction. Do you know what makes me sad? It’s how often a perceived lack of confidence gets in the way.

“I wish I could________(fill in the blank.) But I don’t have the confidence.”

You’ve probably noticed that inner conversation in your own mind on multiple occasions. If you’ve muttered the words above, you’re not alone. Most of us feel at least a little anxious if not downright scared when we contemplate trying something new. It requires a leap of faith and…what if we fail? What then? What separates the folks who succeed from those who stay stuck in the low self-confidence rut?

What hopes/goals/dreams do you have? Perhaps it’s to own your own business, learn a new skill, buy your first home or even to begin dating again. That’s your intuition encouraging you to move out of your comfort zone! Let’s face it, with the pandemic many of us are forced to make a move.

Here are four powerful ideas that you can use today to increase your confidence and move in the direction of success.

Ask Yourself the Right Questions

Your intuition can guide you to the most successful outcome when you learn to ask good questions. Instead of questions like, “What’s wrong with me?” Why am I blocked?” Or “Why can’t I…make more money, have a great relationship, find a good job, etc.?” Try these instead: “What’s my right next step?” “What could I do to feel better right now?” “What does my gut tell me about this situation?” “What do I need to know today?” “What’s the best way to proceed?”

The answer doesn’t usually come via a big booming voice. Often it will arrive as a still, quiet inner voice, an “aha” moment, or an idea to try something new that hadn’t occurred to you before. Intuition is your inner compass pointing you in the right direction.

Change Your Thinking

“It won’t work.” “I’m not good at this.” “These things never go my way, so why bother?” “That’s impossible!” These are statements that people use that are the preamble for failure. Begin to recognize the common statements you use that make you feel discouraged and hopeless. See if you can begin to shift them in a positive direction. Examples are: “I’m willing to see things differently.” “I’m resourceful enough to handle any setbacks that come my way.” I’m finding it easier to focus on my goals and follow through.” “Things have a way of working out.” Do a Google search for self-confidence affirmations. Try out some that you find empowering. Write them on post-it notes and place them where you’ll see them: in your wallet, on a mirror or on the wall of your office.

Use a Confidence Boosting Ritual

There are all sorts of techniques that successful people use to get beyond their fear. One of the most common is to assume the “Wonder Woman” or “Superman” stance. To do this, stand up straight with your shoulders back and put your hands on your hips.

Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale say to yourself one or all of the following:

“I can do this!” “

Things are going to change for the better now.”

“I am strong and confident.”

“I act with confidence and courage and things work out for me.”

As you say these statements, really feel their meaning deep inside you. In other words, say it like you mean it!

Move Out of Your Comfort Zone

Everyone has a different set of circumstances that make up their comfort zone. When you choose to move out of the perceived safety of the known and into the unknown, miracles will begin to occur.

With each risk you take, you’ll start to feel more and more comfortable. You’ll find that the Universe will start to deliver your dreams to you more quickly. Your self-confidence and self-esteem will improve, and you’ll begin to feel powerful. Your vision of yourself and what you can achieve in the world will begin to expand. As you become bigger, you’ll find you can hold a vision of what you want to achieve, and before you know it, success will be yours.

You already have more power than you can imagine! What can you do today to step out of your comfort zone and begin to build your self-confidence muscles?

Powerful self-confidence probably won’t develop overnight. Learn to take baby steps and notice the small shifts in your life. They will show up as less anxiety, more ease in making changes, and an increase in the knowledge that you are moving towards your goals and intentions. Self-confidence is a wonderful thing. It’s the building block for creating a life you love. You deserve it!

How Do You Know It’s Intuition?

I came across an old Dilbert cartoon recently and it had me chuckling.

Dilbert says, “I wonder if I should rely more on my intuition?”

Dogbert responds, “You mean guessing?”

Dilbert is totally confused! “No. Guessing is different from intuition because of um…”

You can read the rest here.

So, what’s the answer Dilbert could have given?

I thought it might be time to review the basics. So, let’s start with what intuition is. Here are some common answers:

Intuition is:

A tool for quick and ready insight.A natural mental faculty.A sixth sense we all possess.A gut feeling.A key element in the creative process.A warning experienced as a tingle up the spine.A component in problem solving and decision-making.A deep inner knowing.A form of guidance and wisdom from God (Infinite Intelligence, Universe…)How do we receive intuitive information?

To give Dogbert some credit, it does often feel like guessing! It comes to many of us through the vehicle of imagination. Here are some common ways:

Physical sensations – The Japanese call intuition “stomach art.” We call such sensations a “gut feeling.” You might find that your body feels heavy if a decision you’ve made is wrong. Your body may feel light or experience “chills” if it is the correct path for you. How does your body communicate “yes” or “no?”

Inner Voice – Many people report a “still, quiet, inner voice.” Your intuition will always communicate with you in a compassionate, loving manner that is perceptibly different from your normal inner chatter. It does take some practice to differentiate guessing, wishful thinking or even fear, from intuition.

Dreams – You can receive a wealth of guidance when you learn to ask for intuitive insight from your dreams. Asking a question before you drift off to sleep is a great way to gain intuitive information. Keep a pad of paper and a pen beside your bed to record your answers.

Emotions – Intuitive information often comes through your feelings or emotions. You may simply “feel right” about a certain course of action. Or you might experience a sense of distrust about an individual or situation. I suggest taking small steps towards what your intuition is indicating. If it continues to feel right, go for it!

Instant knowing – You may receive a sudden flash of understanding. This is sometimes called the “Eureka” effect or an “aha moment.” People often report that these moments of insight come when they least expect it, like when they’re taking a shower, walking the dog or doing the dishes.

Symbols – Intuition often comes to us in symbolic images. It is often said that “A picture is worth a thousand words.” You might receive a symbolic impression of a rocky road if you choose “Path A.” If you choose the alternative “Path B,” you may see a clear, well-paved path in your mind’s eye.

Coincidences and synchronicity – It’s been said that coincidences are God’s way of remaining anonymous. When you experience frequent synchronicity you’ll know your intuition has led you on the right path.

While I have always wished intuition would proclaim itself in a loud voice, saying, “Here’s what you should do,” it doesn’t. Intuition has its own language; its own code. There is no one right way to hear its guidance. Intuition is a steadfast companion on your path in life; a true friend who wants what’s best for you, who is always there, guiding, listening, encouraging — showing you the way to achieve your heart’s desire through love and compassion. It resides within you and has been with you always. Trust it and listen to it, even if you feel as if you’re just guessing!

Are You Blocking Your Intuition?

How to Tune In for New Life Direction

Are you getting in the way of your own intuition? I’m hearing from a lot of clients who are understandably experiencing more stress and anxiety than usual. In the midst of this pandemic it’s all too easy to imagine the worst-case scenario. We get hyper-focused on all the bad, difficult or challenging things that could happen. Do you know that thinking this way may prevent your intuition from providing helpful guidance?

Your inner wisdom is here to guide you to greater success, happiness and purpose. I’m going to share some techniques that I use when I need to jumpstart my intuition and get moving in a more positive direction.

The next time you’re experiencing any degree of stress, anxiety or depression, begin to shift the conversation in your head towards what you want, not what you don’t want. There are many ways to do this.

The Fairy Godmother Technique

If you had a fairy Godmother who could wave a magic wand over you and grant your wish, what would it be? This may sound silly (and it is) but it may also allow your imagination to take hold long enough to think of a different scenario. If the Godmother idea is too weird for you, imagine you won the lottery. What would the answer be then?

What’s the Opposite?

As stated above, we often get focused on what we DON’T want. I suggest you get a piece of paper and draw a vertical line down the middle of the page. In the left side column write all the things that are bugging you. When you’re finished with that task, ask yourself what’s the opposite? You’ll add these to the column on the right. So, “I never have time for myself” becomes, “I’m experiencing more flexibility and ease in my life.” Another example? “I hate my job” becomes “I want a job where I have more creativity (abundance, fun, respect…)” You get the idea.

What Are You Yearning For?

This is another one of my favorite questions to ask myself. Sometimes trying to answer the question, “What do I want?” leaves me stuck. I can’t think of anything or I get mired in trying to figure out how I’m going to accomplish it. Asking yourself, “What am I yearning for?” may bring up something intangible. That’s perfect! When I’ve asked clients this question, the answers often pour forth with words such as ease, adventure, flexibility, abundance, connection, love, community and creativity. Those are all great answers.

Where Does Intuition Come In?

Intuition is your “Inner GPS.” When you’re clear about your goals, intentions, or yearnings, your inner wisdom will begin to guide you in the right direction towards those ideas. It communicates through feelings, an inner voice, “aha” moments, dreams, physical sensations (such as gut feelings) and synchronicities.

Here’s another technique to try:

Write a paragraph or so about what you want. I like to write it in the present tense as if I already have this goal or desire. Don’t try to figure out how you’re going to get it. That’s for your intuition to work out.

Close your eyes and take a few slow, deep breaths. Now bring to mind the outcome that you want. Spend a few moments visualizing this perfect outcome. What feeling would you be experiencing if you got what you want? As you visualize this image, feel those emotions. Add some words to your imagery. Use whatever works for you. “This is great.” “I feel terrific!” Imagine your friends and family celebrating with you. Do whatever you can to make this image real and vivid.

When you feel ready, ask your intuition, “What could I do today that would move me in the right direction?” Await a response.

Open your eyes when you feel ready.

Additional thoughts…

Jot down any ideas, thoughts and impressions you may have had. Keep it brief.Don’t take action simply on what you think makes sense. Act only on impulses that feel like fun, make you excited, or seem enjoyable to you. That’s your intuition speaking! You may receive information later in the day. Inner guidance loves to arrive when you least expect it…when you’re blow-drying your hair, taking a shower, walking the dog or doing the dishes! As you go about your day, notice any ideas that seem to simply pop into your head. Pay attention to these, especially if they give you a sense of relief or peace. Jot them down so you can act on them later. Also notice if you’re given the answer or next step in some other way. You may overhear a conversation, get drawn to an article or book, or have a website pop up that gives you some needed insight.

Your inner wisdom wants you to be happy. It’s always trying to bring you back into a life of peace, joy and purpose. It’s there as an inner guide to restore balance and bring you back home. Develop it. Listen to it. All of what you want in life also wants you.
