Do You Feel Directionless?

Do You Feel Directionless? | Lynn A. Robinson

I hear from a lot of folks who feel that they lack a life direction.
It’s a frequent theme on my “Ask Lynn” column. Do you feel this way, too? If so, I’d like to suggest the idea of taking small steps. If you feel excited, enthusiastic or curious about a direction, that’s your intuition telling you to go there.

You don’t have to take a big leap. You can take baby steps. For example, you may be thinking about a new career. Rather than quitting your job right now, you could take a class on your new idea, talk to people who have this career, volunteer in this new occupation, or read some books on it. Those are all low risk ways of checking out your intuition. Of course, at some point you have to have courage and take the BIG step and make the ultimate decision. But, if things keep working out and you keep getting a “yes” from your intuition, you’ll know you’re heading in the right direction.

What small (yet exciting) step are you willing to take today?

Can’t Figure Out What You Want?

Can’t Figure Out What You Want? | Lynn A. Robinson

My client, Shirley, came into my office for an intuitive reading recently.
She joked, “I feel I could do anything in my life, if only I new what it was that I wanted!” She explained that in her younger life she had been a real go-getter, always leaping from one big goal to another. Now in her late 50’s she still had lots of energy, but her high-achieving former self seemed to have vanished. I suggested that a vision board or treasure map may be the perfect thing to help her get clear. Here’s how to do it: Gather up a bunch of your favorite magazines along with a piece of poster board and some colored pens. Begin to cut out pictures of things that you want to create in your life and paste them on the poster board. You can also write inspirational sayings with your pens. Many people create a separate vision board for several areas in their life. For example, one may be for partnership, another career, money, travel, friends, or health. When your intuition knows what you want, it will give you guidance about the best direction to get there!

Shirley discovered that all of her images were about slowing down, exploring and resting. They weren’t about the get up and go lifestyle of her former self. Through the vision board process, she realized that she needed to give herself permission to be in a bit of a hibernation mode as her next step. That brought an immediate sense of relief. How about you? What is your soul longing for?
Do You Have Big Dreams?
I often hear from my intuitive reading clients that they have big dreams but have no idea how to manifest them. Unfortunately, this means they often give up on themselves and those dreams to soon. I belive that if something is in your heart, you’re meant to achieve it. God gives us sometimes miraculous help when we go after those passions of our heart. I’m a big fan of visualizing and it’s one of the ways to harmonize with the power of the Universe to achieve your goals. Use your emotions and your ability to visualize to imagine and dream about what you want. What picture comes to your mind when you imagine achieving your goal? While focusing on that, add color, texture, sounds and smells to your image. Amplify the positive emotions you feel. In your mind’s eye, see and feel encouraging friends around you congratulating you on your success.

I love listening to music when I’m visualizing. It helps me get into the right feeling or emotion. I’m sure you have your favorites that make you feel great. You might also check out the meditation music at www.BrainSync.com.

Quick Exercise: How to Use Your Intuition

Quick Exercise: How to Use Your Intuition | Lynn A. Robinson

Isn’t it awful when you have a decision to make and you just can’t decide?

You waiver back and forth and write endless “pros and cons” lists, making yourself feel crazy in the process! Often it’s because you're trying to make a decision with your left brain, the logical rational part of you, when you could be making a wiser choice by trusting your intuition.

When you have a decision to make and want to use your intuition, try this exercise:
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath and, if possible, get into a calm, peaceful place. Your intention is to be in the present moment.
Remain quiet as you allow yourself to feel your physical body. Just notice it without trying to change it or make it go away. Is there a tension or different feeling somewhere? With curiosity and compassion, just notice what it’s communicating.
Place your hand over your heart. Bring to mind someone or something that you love. Listen to the wisdom of your heart. What is it saying about this situation or decision?
Observe your thoughts rather than debating or analyzing them.
Trust that you are receiving wise guidance from your intuition. Ask for discernment. Your answer may simply be to wait, to act or to gather more information.
When you feel ready open your eyes. Is there anything you feel prompted to do right now? If so, do it. If not, stay centered. You may want to rest, sleep or do some yoga.
Intuitive information often comes when you least expect it! You might feel guided to pick up a specific book and find your answer there. You might turn on the radio at just the right time and hear an interview that addresses your concerns. The Universe has all sorts of amazing ways to guide you. Be patient and trust that all that you need is being provided.

Step Into Your Greatness!

Step Into Your Greatness! | Lynn A. Robinson

(…With a Little Help From Your Intuition.)

What you say to yourself when you talk to yourself has a huge impact on what happens in your life. You create what you focus on through the power of your thoughts, the images you hold in your mind and emotions. When you begin to choose your thoughts in a more conscious fashion, you can begin to shape your destiny. I love what Oprah says about this: "We are each responsible for our lives and, more important, the thoughts that create them. If you want your life to be more rewarding, you have to change the way you think."
How is your intuition tied into this? When you are consistently holding negative or pessimistic thoughts you’ll feel bad. This is one of the ways your intuition has of signaling you that you're on the wrong track. It's as if your bad mood or irritability is your intuition’s early warning system letting you know you’re about to create something less than positive in your life. It's cautioning you to redirect your thinking.
Pay Attention to the Focus of Your Thoughts
Try this experiment: Think of something that you really want. Got it? Now spend about thirty seconds saying to yourself, "I'll never get it. I'm not good enough. I'm not lucky. It will never happen." You get the idea. Now, how do you feel? I imagine that you felt awful, right? Great! That’s your intuition giving you a message to change your thinking!
Try this experiment again. This time bring to mind what you want to create in your life and then spend thirty seconds saying the following, "I'm so excited about having (this thing). I know I'm on the right track. I have what it takes to succeed at this. It's only a matter of time until it happens." I'll bet you feel more positive. Again, this is a message from your intuition. This time your good feelings are an indication that you're on the right track and sending out the right vibration or energy to attract what you desire. Spiritual teacher, Ron Rathbun said it best when he stated, "What you find in your mind is what you put there. Put good things in there."

Accentuate the Positive
Your intuition is your ally in creating a life you love. It is your inner compass of Inner GPS indicating the right direction for success. It’s always running in the background suggesting you step into your greatness, your purpose and passion. Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings. If you catch yourself feeling down, depressed or just plain pessimistic see if you can track your thoughts back to what you were just thinking about or telling yourself.
Be vigilant about turning your negative thoughts to something positive. Notice when you get feedback from your intuition that the thoughts you're thinking are not attracting what you desire and immediately ask yourself two questions.
1) What do I want in this situation?
2) Is there a more positive way of thinking about it?
Continue to choose thoughts that make you feel better. This doesn't mean lying to yourself. Be compassionate with yourself as you learn this new skill. It takes practice to be a conscious creator of your world!

Intuition Can Help You Get Through Tough Times!

Intuition Can Help Through Tough Times | Lynn A. Robinson

Why does it seem like our inner guidance has abandoned us when we’re going through difficult times?
I believe it’s because of our negative self-talk. We say things to ourselves like, “What’s wrong with me?” Or, “Things never work out for me!” Or, “I’m a failure.” Saying things like that to yourself make you shut of the flow of wise intuitive guidance.

If you’re someone who is prone to this kind of self-talk, I’d like to suggest an experiment:

Bring to mind a stressful event in your life, then close your eyes and say the words "Things never work out for me! I don’t know what to do!" several times and with intensity. Note your feelings.

Now, with the same event in mind, say the words, "I'm open to new possibilities." Or "My intuition is guiding me to the best way out of this situation." Now how do you feel? Do you notice that the first sentence makes you feel shut down and anxious? The second and third statements probably made you feel open, hopeful and produced an expectation of positive change. Everyone talks to themselves. If your inner dialogue is making you feel bad, change it. Intuition can guide you more easily when you’re open to its wisdom.

Do you have a favorite affirmation you say to yourself during tough times? I’d love to hear about it!

What If You Act on Your Intuition and Things Don’t Work Out?

What If You Act on Your Intuition and Things Don’t Work Out? | Lynn A. Robinson

It feels awful when you trusted your intuition and the job you thought you snagged was given to someone else.

Or, the you felt strongly that the person you were dating was “The One” and it turned out they weren’t. You can expect that if you live long enough, something will go seemingly wrong in your life despite all your best intentions and intuition! At those times, you still have to trust yourself to get back on track. How do you know that the thing you perceive as bad isn’t the very thing setting you up for something good?! You lost a job, but a better one came along. Your boyfriend broke up with you, but you learned self-love and self-reliance and opened yourself to an even greater love.

A good practice to use when you’re going through a difficult time is to find an affirmation to say to help you feel calm, “I am open to new possibilities.” “Life is taking me on a wonderful new path.” “Everything I’m experiencing is helping me.” “I want to feel calm and at peace.” After you’ve made these statements silently in your mind — wait. See what intuitive communications emerge.

How about you? Have you experienced a seeming “detour” in life and had it emerge into something even better? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Can Intuition Help You To Be Happier?

Can Intuition Help You to be Happier? | Lynn A. Robinson

I believe intuition is our guide for how to live a happier, more joyful life.
How can it do that? Try this! If a decision or idea feels heavy, boring or draining, that’s your intuition telling you to move away from that choice or not make it in the first place.

If a decision or idea feels exciting, interesting, or has energy, that’s your intuition telling you too go in that direction. That way points you to more success and happiness!
Intuition is always encouraging you to open up, try something new and be the best you can be. It consistently points the way to success. We all want a sure thing, a guarantee that the risk we take will work out okay. But life isn't like that. It requires that you develop faith and courage so you can grow big enough emotionally and spiritually to live your dreams.

What to Ask Your Intuition and How to Get Answers!

People often ask me for techniques for developing their intuition. Here’s some quick thoughts:

Meditation is helpful. So is simply sitting quietly for five to ten minutes. Taking slow deep breaths. Being in nature.

We often think of intuition as coming unbidden. However, we can get really helpful information from our intuition when we ask open-ended questions such as, “How can I…be happier, attract a partner, find a wonderful new job?" Or simply, “What is the right next step?”
Intuitive answers don’t usually come immediately. They come when you least expect them! They may pop into your mind when you wake up, while you’re in the shower, when you’re doing the dishes, while you’re daydreaming on the train. What is your intuition telling you?

Five Steps to Take When Life Turns Upside Down

Five Steps to Take When Life Turns Upside Down | Lynn A. Robinson

Adapted from my book, LISTEN: Trusting Your Inner Voice in Times of Crisis .

What are some steps you can take when life has handed you lemons and you haven’t yet figured out how to make lemonade?
BE PATIENT
This is a time of change and things need to happen of their own accord. There is little to be gained by trying to speed up the process. If it takes you longer to get where you want to go, there might be a reason for it. It is often hard to figure out the big question, “Why is this happening to me?!” when you’re in the middle of the crisis. Allow for Divine wisdom to play a role in your life.
HAVE FUN
When you’re out of work, broke and down on your luck, having fun may be at the bottom of your priority list. Nudge it up closer to the top. Come up with a list of inexpensive things you could do to enjoy yourself. There is no virtue in suffering needlessly while you’re going through a difficult time.
ASK FOR HELP AND GUIDANCE
If you open up and talk about what you’re experiencing, you may be surprised by how many friends you have who want to help. You don’t have to go through this alone. But if times are really tough or you feel you may be getting seriously depressed, be sure to talk with a counselor.
BE KIND TO YOURSELF
Now is not the time to beat yourself up for any perceived mistakes, or to wallow in “what I should have done.” One of the biggest challenges most experience in the face of failure is knowing how to love ourselves through the process. Keep your heart and mind open. You’ll find that insight and wisdom will come through when you most need them to guide you in the right direction.
PRACTICE POSITIVE SELF-TALK
If you're a pessimist, you're likely to spend a lot of time with negative self-talk. "I can't do this." "Nothing works out for me." Or, "I have terrible luck," are all common examples. Whether you're facing an upcoming interview or giving a speech, pay attention to what you're telling yourself! It will make a dramatic difference in how you feel. Make a conscious attempt to shift the focus on any pessimistic thoughts. Try saying things to yourself like, "I know I'll get through this." "What could I do today to stay relaxed?" "There are many things I do well and today I'll stay focused on those."

I’ll end with a quote from Richard Carlson who wrote the Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff series of books. “Let go of fear. The universe has an infinite supply of opportunity. There is plenty to go around. You may be surprised to see that something is coming your way right now!”

Prayer for Blessings in the World

Prayer for Blessings in the World | Lynn A. Robinson

I recently came across a prayer I had saved from Marianne Williamson’s newsletter.
It was written after the tsunami in Japan. It is simple and yet powerful.
Dear God,

Please work a miracle in those whose lives were

lost or broken in the wake of the tsunami.

May Your hand upon them bring comfort and peace.

May the love of the world bring aid and relief.

Send a legion of angels to their side

to uplift them in their time of need.

And show us how we can serve. Amen.

You can insert a different word to replace tsunami, of course. I’ve used this prayer for people who are in countries at war, experienced hurricanes, floods or other natural disasters. I believe our prayers provide profound help and caring energy during times of need.
