Why does it seem like our inner guidance has abandoned us when we’re going through difficult times?
I believe it’s because of our negative self-talk. We say things to ourselves like, “What’s wrong with me?” Or, “Things never work out for me!” Or, “I’m a failure.” Saying things like that to yourself make you shut of the flow of wise intuitive guidance.
If you’re someone who is prone to this kind of self-talk, I’d like to suggest an experiment:
Bring to mind a stressful event in your life, then close your eyes and say the words "Things never work out for me! I don’t know what to do!" several times and with intensity. Note your feelings.
Now, with the same event in mind, say the words, "I'm open to new possibilities." Or "My intuition is guiding me to the best way out of this situation." Now how do you feel? Do you notice that the first sentence makes you feel shut down and anxious? The second and third statements probably made you feel open, hopeful and produced an expectation of positive change. Everyone talks to themselves. If your inner dialogue is making you feel bad, change it. Intuition can guide you more easily when you’re open to its wisdom.
Do you have a favorite affirmation you say to yourself during tough times? I’d love to hear about it!
