Awards Announcements, Christmas Hops, and Book Tours, oh my!

FinalistSMSo many things coming up starting this weekend! On Sunday, Dec 8th, Elisa Reviews will be announcing the winners of the 2013 Rainbow Awards! The Boys of Summer is a finalist in the awards, and its cover, created by the peerless Reese Dante, is up for a cover award as well! I am excited and nervous all at the same time… Excited because I think the cover stands a darn good chance of winning–Reese Dante is simply that good. Nervous because as much as I would like for The Boys of Summer to win in...

christmas tree_stevep2008I really look forward to it as a chance to slow down and take a break, recharge. Most of my year is crazy busy with work and writing. Around Christmas everyone I work with takes a long break, so...

An Epiphany Before I Go…

That FaceFunny, it took an internet gif to save my life from the internet. I was watching this funny gif on Tumblr, in which a young man keeps getting photobombed by his dog. Apparently there are a lot of these gifs out there because it keeps happening. I’m scrolling through the comments, which were along the lines of how this dog was ruining everyone’s life because of the cuteness, and I caught myself irritably telling my own dog to go lie down.

To go lie down so I could look at a gif of a man interac...

Scent of a Wolf: the latest release from Draven St. James!

DSJ_ScentofaWolf

Hello! Welcome to my blog, Draven, and thank you for answering my nosy discerning, questions! First, please tell us a little about yourself and the kinds of stories you like to write. Would you say there is an underlying theme behind your stories?

I’m a born and raised Oregonian. I’ve traveled extensively in search of mischief and mayhem to fill my books. Research is a great excuse to get out in the world and do some crazy things. My ventures have been quite successful in inspiring a wealth of...

The Boys of Summer Cover Art is up for a Rainbow Award!

The Boys of Summer400x600You all probably know by now how much I love my cover for The Boys of Summer. Artist Reese Dante did an amazing job, practically reading my mind when it came to choosing the elements I wanted to evoke the misty reflection on the past that is central to the story.

I’ve been delighted to watch this cover’s progress through the voting in this year’s Rainbow Cover Art Awards and now The Boys of Summer has reached the forth and final round of competition! Now, I know it has nothing to do with me, b...

Sunday Moment of Zen: Why sometimes NOT writing is the answer

I hope everyone has had a lovely Sunday and got to do something they really enjoyed. I certainly did, and I want to share it with you today!

K_fall leaves

One of the things that is really important to my mental health is spending a certain amount of time outdoors each week. These past few years, I’ve been very slack about doing this–I used to be an avid hiker and I used to ride competitively. The barn where I kept my horse was dog-friendly, so after I rode, I would take H for a run in the woods. In terms of...
