A short Halloween Scene with the boys from Crying for the Moon

jackolanternTalk about embarrassing! I’d completely forgotten that my post as part of Merissa McCain‘s Paranormal Month was up today until I got emails and tweets about it! *redface*

I’ve been swamped with obligations recently, definitely a case of biting off more than I could chew. It’s a problem I struggle with on a frequent basis. Right now, I’m gearing up for a major blog tour–I’ve written 8 blog posts and done 3 interviews for it, and I still have interviews and blog posts to host here. All while wri...

Rising above the Painful Review…

ink pen_wikipedia_org“Criticism is a surreal state, like a good drug gone bad. When it’s bad you wish it would stop, and when it’s good, you can’t get enough.” , Queer As Folk, The Secret Circle

One of my fellow authors, Zahra Owens, has this quote as a signature line on her email. I love it. I think it sums up very accurately the love-hate relationship that we as creators have with that part of the creative process that calls for us to release our babies into the world and hope, on some level, that the...

The Best Way to Sell Stories is to Feed the Beast…

I’ve had better mornings. I had to meet a client with an emergency on my day off, and I just got a phone call from the garage where I left my car for inspection and I’m going to need $700 worth of work in order to pass. I went to make ‘feel sorry for me’ cheese and garlic biscuits for a late breakfast, and I discovered I was all out of biscuit mix. And stuck at home with no car.

BrowniesI made brownies instead.

Yeah, it’s been that kind of morning. Well, week, really. Okay, month.

As of today, I will ha...

The Secret Club of Subversive Owners of Big Dogs

Sunny HI love this time of year. Pretty much everyone who knows me knows this. There is something about the quality of light in October that has me reaching for the little point-and-shoot camera 10-20 times a day just to try and capture something I’ve already photographed half a million times before. My life is pretty quiet (outside of work). The scenery doesn’t change much. :-) And still, nearly every day, I’m trying to get that shot of the sunset, or the autumn light on the mare’s coat, or the changi...

Paranormal Blog Hops, Book Reviews, and more!

JaceI am so behind on *everything* right now. I was just starting Kindle Alexander’s Double Full (released yesterday, Oct 8th!) when I left my Nook at work. Imagine my disappointment! I’d started the story at lunch and was looking forward to curling up with it last night. Fortunately, when I got to work this morning, my carry-all bag (my home away from home since I travel so much) was sitting exactly where I left it, so I have something to look forward to this evening when I get off work–yay! Sta...

Only one thing on my Bucket List: To be Free of Fear

Military Working DogsI almost got eaten by a dog at work this past week. I say it jokingly, but it was no laughing matter. I’m good at reading both animals and people: in the twenty plus years in the business, I’ve only been bitten twice. Once by a dog, once by a cat.

However, in this case, the dog gave no warning. There were no subtle cues to pick up on. Nothing that made me go, “You’d better be careful with this one.” This dog was wagging his whole body, happy to see me, happy to be in the office. I came up fron...

The week in review–as George Takei would say, “Oh myyyyy!”

So much to share this week!

FinalistSMThe most exciting news is that The Boys of Summer is a finalist in the 2013 Rainbow Awards! You could have knocked me over with a feather when I got the official word. I don’t anticipate it going any further than this; I am up against some stiff competition (no pun intended!) and I am aware of the flaws in the story. But this is one of those situations in which it is truly an honor to be on the list with such prominent titles within the genre!

Also, I am very pleased...

October is Paranormal Month!

halloweencatroxiconWhat do you think of when you think of October? The scurry of dry leaves across the sidewalk, blown by autumn winds? That day when you reach for your leather jacket, or when you put away your sandals and pull out your boots? How about pumpkin bread, warm from the oven? Or maybe you think about things that go bump in the night? :-) That black cat slinking across the road that pauses to stare at you with grass-green eyes. The shivery sensation of being outside on a blustery evening, the scent of r...
