Interesting blog posts

Also, I'm donating a portion of this quarter's sale of Unspeakable Words to the relief efforts in Japan, so if you were thinking about buying a copy, now would be a good time--the quarter doesn't end until the end of March! All the information is also available at my website. Thanks!

Excellent post by Kristen Lamb

I discovered a new resource today--blogger Kristen Lamb.

She writes an excellent post on balancing writing verses social networking.

Why you won't hear from me much...

I thought I should take a brief moment here and explain why you might not hear from me as much as you'd expect here at Goodreads.

There are a number of reasons--not the least of which is time. I work 6-7 days a week at a job that requires my attention most of the time. I might snatch the occasional moment to check the tweets or respond to an email, but I don't have a lot of time for thinky thoughts while I'm at work.

When I *do* have time, whatever I happen to be working as the WIP takes precedence. It has to--my joy and delight is telling stories and hoping other people will enjoy them as well. To that effect, I have to concentrate what little free time I have into writing.

I also have mixed feelings about reviewing other people's work. I know how hard it is to raise your 'child' from infancy to school age and send it off on the bus, waving goodbye. You hope you raised it right, you hope it plays well with others and won't get bullied because you *love* it and you want others to love it too.

Problem is, I tend to be fairly critical when reading a book that doesn't engage me--it I like it, then I like it whole-heartedly and forgive many of its flaws. So I wouldn't say I'm the most balanced of reviewers.

To that extent, I've chosen not to review my fellow M/M romance writers for the most part. I'm sure there will be exceptions, when someone's work blows me away and I just have to share the glee, but for the most part, I will read that genre in silence. I use goodreads mostly as a way of tracking the books I want to read, TBH.

Since I already feel divided and subdivided into a thousands silvers of glass on a daily basis, you're not likely to see me post here much or participate in discussions very often.

That doesn't mean that I don't want to hear from you, however! It just means I spend a lot of time skimming other people's posts, planning to make a comment, and then getting totally sidetracked by something else that needs doing right now. Direct contact will usually get a response (though I'm not promising when!)

Grinning foolishly here...

I just got offered a contract by Dreamspinner Press for my vampire/werewolf novel Crying for the Moon.

I'd do cartwheels, but not without injuring myself badly.

You know that feeling when you want to grab the person next to you and shake them by the shoulders while you delightedly shriek your news at them? Yeah, well this is me doing that. :-)

Yippee!

I just signed a contract with Dreamspinners today for my gargoyle story! I wrote the story to answer a submission call for a prompt, blew past the word count and kept on writing.

I was hoping it would find a home because I'm really quite fond of it. :-)

Excellent quotation...

Came across this excellent quote by way of my friend Cooper West today:

"My works are like water. The works of the great masters are like wine. But everyone drinks water."
- From Mark Twain's Notebook, 1885

It is particularly apt since I have long referred to myself as a PB&J writer in a caviar world, while noting that some people really do prefer PB&J.
