I'm Back!!

So I'm back! Whooooo!!!! Yes, back home, back on-line. Tired as, and if I went to the airport right now, they'd charge me extra luggage for the bags under my eyes. But I'm back!

Adelaide was fun - my friend fed a lion, the highlight of her trip, we walked for miles (when we got back home, I'd actually lost 2 kgs!), we ate yummy food, we explored, we had fun.

It started dubiously. Instead of leaving the airport at 0840 in the morning, the plane was delayed and didn't leave until about 1300hrs! So we missed our connecting flight but the airline kindly put us on the next flight, so instead of getting to Adelaide at 1730hrs, it was about 2200hrs! But we got there!

We learned a lot, us 2 country folk who drive our own cars everywhere and have no idea of public transport. A lady on the tram kindly showed us how to get a ticket, we found our way onto the bus, and we eventually figured out how to use the hotel key card to move the lift and open our door. Yes, people, it's a sad but true fact that my friend and I couldn't work the lift. We got to the hotel late at night, and stood in the elevator with the doors opening and closing so the reception staff could watch the two idiots while we tried to follow their instructions to move the stupid lift. Finally we gave in and asked for help...then I had to go downstairs and ask for help to open the door because the key card we slid over the lock wouldn't register, so up came a helpful man (I think by then he knew we were both losers) and did it for us - on the correct door. To be fair, that wasn't totally our fault - the man downstairs accidentally told us the wrong number! However, seeing as we were too dumb to even work the lift, we forgave him - plus it was late at night and the poor bugger was probably as tired as we were! Anyone can make an honest mistake. We took it in stride and laughed like hyenas (not a pretty sound, but hey! We were tired!)

Adelaide is an amazing place. We stayed at Glenegl which is so pretty, with all these amazing shops and cafes and restaurants. Good food, walked for miles, had fun!

The convention was great, very informative, and re-inspired me. Interesting to see how many authors are becoming hybrid - doing both traditional and self-publishing.

I think before I left I was a little burnt-out, as Aaron's story wasn't coming easy and I hadn't gotten very far with it, also counting how much work Mum and I had to do before I even left. I have yet to start Aaron's story again, but hope to start tomorrow or Friday, and get back into my usual routine as I also go back to work on Monday. But I'm refreshed, and his story is starting to come together in my head (thank goodness!).

So let's see what happens!

August 13, 2016

Off to RWA 2016 next week!

So Monday I and my best friend fly out to Adelaide in South Aussie. The conference isn't until Friday, so we'll have 3 days and most of Friday to explore Adelaide and all it's wonderful places. We've even booked onto a ghost tour in the old Adelaide Gaol in the early night (7pm - 9pm). It'll be dark, cold, spooky (and freezing), but we're up for it! I hope LOL. I'm prepared to be spooked! We weren't brave enough to go for the other tour, which includes being locked down into the gaol, that's a little too much.

It doesn't help when my mother tells me she hopes nothing follows me and Rae back to the hotel...then all the way home. Seriously, I read where ghost hunters did have the ghost of a little girl follow one of them back home, she saw it on her staircase. Geez, now I've had goosebumps explode down my arms. Why did Mum have to say that and remind me of what I'd read? ARGH!

Wait, I know...I'll tell Rae that right as we arrive at the tour, freak her out before we start! ROTFL!!!! (Hey, that's what friends are for!)

I'm also homesick already, doing my usual 'I wish I wasn't going' and 'Why did I agree to go?' and 'I want to stay home!' This'll last until the plane leaves the tarmac. Seeing as I'm also a bad traveler and get air sick/bus sick/sometimes taxi sick, I'll be doped on travel sick pills that'll probably make me drowsy and sleep most of the way. Ah, the good times of travel!

Haven't had much time to write this week, trying to pack a lot of stuff into boxes and store in the back room, as Mum and I have so much to do when I get back that I'm trying to save some time and get the heavy stuff boxed. New lino going down the week I get home and we have to have everything out of the house ready for the men to shift the furniture and lay down the lino, then shift everything back in and empty the back room and repeat. So the week I get back, I'm not even going to make it onto the computer! So this week no writing, next week no writing as I'll be away, and the week I get back no writing as everything will be shifting and turbulent!

In between, the cats are wary of all the packing and not knowing what's going on - Lily is meowing earnestly at me every chance she gets, Evie is head first into any box she can get into, Theo simply retires under Mum's blanket while Fleur curls up near the pillow, Lacey is prancing around all agog and wanting to know what's happening, Polly has discovered one of the igloos she couldn't be bothered with before and declared it's HER ZONE and she's going to LIVE IN IT FOREVER and only comes out of it during the day to eat, drink and use the litter tray (then at night she sleeps on the sofa) while Abby takes off to the cattery and snoozes there all day, only coming in at tea time. Go figure.

So everyone, I won't be on-line for a couple of weeks. Have fun, stay safe, and I'll chat again soon!

Phone is On - ARGH!!!!

So the internet is working, the phone is working, all is right with the world.

Or is it?

NO! The PHONE is working! I swear this is true - within two hours of the phone connecting, we had five phone calls. Drove me insane! I mean, I relished the peace of no phone ringing. I did. I really did! *sniffle* Now it rings and disturbs my solitary peace!!!!! I had no idea how precious it was until the freaking phone was reconnected!

There I was, snuggly-wuggly knitted rug over my cold little knees, Diet Coke on the coffee table, flopped back on the sofa watching a movie, when the peace and tranquility was SHATTERED by the freaking phone! I refused to answer it, burrowed deeper into my cardigan and told Mum I wasn't home.

Yes, I lied. Okay? I LIED! And I ADMIT it!

I sound like a spoiled brat, I know, but when you've spent all week racing around at work, you're mentally exhausted, you have a horror movie just starting, you're so comfortable and warm with a drinkie-pooh at hand and one of the cats snugged up in your lap, and you're all cosy and contented and drifting in a haze of relief and, well, contentedness, and the PHONE FREAKING STARTS RINGING - I tell you, I just wanted to yank the line out of the modem.

I actually suggested it, but got THE LOOK ( the one that only mothers can give), from my Mum, so there went that idea. But at least she met me halfway by taking messages!!

The horror movie wasn't half bad, the drinkie-pooh was great, and me and Lily were all snuggly-wuggly under the rug. Ah bliss!

See, I'm actually really easy to please...just cut the phone cord.

Some Issues, Some Not

Getting on to NBN has been interesting. It's a bit of story, and rather than try to re-write what has happened, I'm going to cheat and put down exactly what I did in my newsletter, because it says it so much better than I could possibly hope to re-write!

So here goes:

So we have some NBN woes. Or not NBN as such - well kind of. Well, yes. Let's go with yes!

This new NBN that's being rolled out over Australia (or is it just West Aussie? Can't remember, brain is still frozen and not working properly) means we have to change our internet and phone system. We now have a box on the wall (called NBT) and a battery back-up box. If this doesn't sound backwards enough, the phone will now go through the internet. Yes, that's right, through the internet.

Sounds simple, right? No, no it's not. Here is what has happened so far.

1. NBN box on outside wall to connect us to the fiber.
2. Had to have more power points put in by electrician as NBT & battery backup requires power points.
2. Workers came in and put the NBT and battery back up boxes on my writing room wall (okay, have to say, in all fairness, the poor bugger up in the ceiling was squashed like a pancake trying to please me and put the connection through. Bless his cotton socks, he did it and only mentioned once about feeling dizzy!)
3. We had the internet through one provider and the phone through a different provider. Told we have to choose ONE provider only! Chose one.
4. Had to have phone changed to the provider as well. Check - did it.
5. Tried to connect old modem. Nope, not compatible - can't get the phone on it.
6. Go to shop and buy new modem which is compatible. Go home, spend half an hour on the phone with internet tech support to find out modem not compatible.
7. Go back to shop for refund - apparently must have a problem with it (ya think?)
8. Internet provider is now sending new modem, will take possibly to the end of the week/beginning of next week to arrive.
9. Need to ring back internet tech support to help me get the modem and phone all connected as I'm as thick as the proverbial two bricks when it comes to that kind of thing.
10. Meanwhile, can use internet by putting Ethernet cord from NBT box to computer. Win!
11. Can't use phone until modem arrives and is connected properly. Lose...or maybe win, means no phone ringing heh heh.
12. Not impressed that NBT box and battery backup must remain on power at all times. I like turning things off on the wall when not in use to save power.
13. Assured by electrician only pulls about the same as a 15 watt globe.
14. Tight-fisted me now wants to know how much it'll cost to keep the modem plugged in and turned on, because if the modem is off, no phone. Need phone to modem to NBT for phone access.
15. Waiting...waiting...waiting...

Just call me Miss Grumpy Pants!

So life continues...

Yep, life continues. Luke's story is done and dusted, edited, prepped, ready to go in August.

So now what? Glad you asked (even though...you know...you didn't...;-))

Now I am starting to plot Aaron's story. I think I've set myself a huge task, considering what he's like. Not that he's nasty or weird or anything, but he's kind of mysterious - even to me right now. Anyway, I've set myself a task, so there will probably be plenty of teeth marks left in the writing desk by the time I finish just the plotting! No one to blame but myself, really... Yet I find myself intrigued by Aaron, I really do.

Now, another thing - tomorrow we get the NBN on, this network thing being rolled out across Australia (or maybe just WA, I don't remember...I'm too cold and my brain has frozen). But some people I know have had problems connecting to the internet and getting cut-off at times, so it's going to have some teething issues - possibly - when we first connect. So if you're trying to contact me and I don't answer, please don't be offended! I'm hoping any issues (if there are any) will be ironed out within a day or two. But I WILL answer any emails and messages as soon as I'm back on-line, so don't give up on me!

Winter has hit hard here. Okay, maybe for those of you living in far colder climates with far colder winters, 39.2F at night isn't bad, but for us it's freakin' freezing! And 64F during the day is teeth-chatteringly cold. I don't do winter well. Apart from whining more than usual (and I'm a great whiner), my fingers get cold and typing gets harder. Because I'm fragile and I DON'T TAKE THE COLD WELL! Kind of like the middle of summer, I don't take the heat well, either.

Really, is it too much to ask that it be autumn or spring all the time? *whimper*

Luke's Book Buying Links & other things

Firstly, as promised, just to let you know pre-orders for Luke's story are available at Amazon, iBooks, Barnes & Noble, Kobo and All Romance eBooks. I have no idea how to do the links here without posting the whole spiel for each website, so all I can offer is that the links are on my website www.angelaverdenius.com if you want them.

Now that I've finished the editing and am simply waiting for release day, I have had my usual 2 weeks off from writing (one week left now) and I have binged on watching DVDs on my days off from the hospital! And I mean BINGED! I have already watched the complete Season 4 of Grimm, Season 1 of Dominion, complete series of South of Hell, as well as watching 3 horror movies in one afternoon (that'd be last Friday, people). I still have the complete series of 2 Guys, A Girl and A Pizza Place to watch, and about 6 seasons of Rules of Engagement. Doubt very much I'll get those all watched before the end of this week coming, as I still have to work the day job, but I will get to watch some of them! I've never seen 2 Guys, A Girl and A Pizza Place, but it has Ryan Reynolds in it and as he's a hunk, I am so there, baby!

Pride & Prejudice & Zombies is out, too, and I'm thinking...should I buy the DVD or rent it?! Decisions, decisions! Renting is probably the cheapest option, as I've just paid the plumber's bill (there went my left kidney). But it's...you know...zombies!!!!!!!

Been working my way through the Nightside series on my kindle, think there's only one book left in the series. Devastation! I love binging on a great series, but when it's over, I'm left looking around going...what now? (whimper) Never mind, there's heaps of awesome books still to read! I'm sure I can find something in my 800+ books on my kindle, right? *sheepish expression*

Okay, better stop here. I have to get ready for work soon, Got to keep the cats in the comfort to which they've become accustomed. Have a great Sunday, everyone, I'll catch you later!

The Wells Brothers: Luke - release date!

Yes! We have a release date for Luke's story! 1st August 2016.

Unbelievably, I have finished writing it. Now it's in the editing stages.

The cover is totally drool-worthy *drooooool* if I do say so myself! It's also available for pre-order from Amazon, but as I don't know how to create that link in short here, forgive me for posting the long link: https://www.amazon.com/Wells-Brothers...

Currently only in Amazon, it will become available in ebook at the usual places - Nook, All Romance eBooks, Smashwords, iTunes, Kobo etc. As the I get the pre-order links, I'll post them on my website for you all.

If you'd like, you can check out the website to read the blurb and check out the cover. (Excerpt coming soon) Even if you don't want to buy the book, at least get a gander at *the cover*. Totally bad-boy/rogue/boy-next-door LOL

Speaking of links, I'm experimenting with trying to put up an international link on the Amazon links, so when you click on it, it brings you to Amazon in whatever country you live in. Currently I have it up on Adam's Thorn, so if anyone wants to test it for me *big kitty eyes*, feel free to trot over to my website and check the link out on the Adam's Thorn page. Any problems, let me know!

Meanwhile - I am soooo happy!

On another side...I think I've set myself a task for Aaron's book - but no! I will not think of that just yet! This is now the time to edit Luke's story and get the final bits done, then have a two week break to catch up on movies, TV and reading before hitting Aaron - I mean starting his book. I wouldn't hit Aaron...he's too unpredictable...or dangerous...or something...

Oh man, I have the DVD 'Little Red Rotting Hood' (yes ROTTING Hood, so you know it's a horror!) sitting near the TV. Guess what I'll be watching???

And So It Continues...

So Luke's story is coming along really well, he and Mikki are striking sparks off each other in both the irritated-at-each-other way and the carnal way. Because carnal is so much fun, too, right?

As usual, I've been burning the midnight oil with this book. Madly writing before and after work and before bed, trying to hit my personal deadline. I have the release month in mind, have it on the calendar, and am going hell for leather to reach it.

Hell for leather? Ooer, that sounded a little kinky, didn't it? Ha!

Anyway, in between work and writing, we've been having fun (I say this sardonically) with house repairs. Let me the list the ways we are fast growing broke in the last week and a half.

1. Bill no. 1. The water in town slowed to a trickle, and Mum and I realised it when we had our hot showers and the water almost dried up. Then the gas tank started clanging and I realised - holy heck, we'd probably run it out of water and the burner was still on! So I frantically turned off the pilot light but then the instructions said to turn the doovey-lackey thingamabob off at the tap and I couldn't find which tap so called the plumber. He came, the water pressure perked up and he re-lit the gas hot water system for us.

2. Bill no. 2 A crack appeared in our old stainless steel laundry sink (I know, right? Even the plumber said he'd never seen that happen before). So the plumber had to install a new sink. Unfortunately, this meant cutting through some of the tiles above the sink. New sink in, tiles buggered.

3. Bill no.3 So now we have to get a tiler in to replace the tiles. The cats freak because not only did they have to put up with the plumber being in the house, but days later also the tiler.

4. Bill no. 4 The tiler informs us that he can smell gas near our gas meter and advises us not to light any matches near it. Not ready to to go Heaven just yet, we call back the plumber. The plumber checks, no leaks, but apparently the gas meter/box/watchamacallit 'vents' and some gas apparently escapes. Or vents or some @!&*. So no gas leak.

This has all transpired since Sun 15th. I think May is jinxed.

However, instead of whining like I usually do (and I do it impressively, if I do say so myself), I'm trying to be upbeat, positive, looking on the bright side, the glass is half full. At least we have jobs so we can pay the bills. Right?

Sheesh, I'd rather spend it on books and horror movies...

No! No, I am being positive. Today is my day off (even if it was half wasted because I can never concentrate with workers here and the cats freaking out) and so now they've gone, I'm going to go back to Luke and Mikki. Yay!

See? Being positive... *sigh*

Man in Uniform? Check these out!

Have you heard about the Running Man challenge? It's sweeping the world - and even better, our men and women in blue (and yellow) are taking it on. Yes, people, the challenge was started by the Boys & Girls in Blue in New Zealand, and has swept through parts of the world with the Police and Firies in different countries taking on the challenge! The videos are short, on youtube, and so much fun to watch! Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HOtv...

So After Jason, Now What?

Firstly, thank you so much to everyone who has read and enjoyed Promises. I was really nervous about writing Jason's story, everyone had been waiting for him for so long. Nerves with writing aren't a good mix!! But I knew I had to write him from the heart, how I saw him, how he unfolded on the screen and in my mind, and so there he is, Jason in the buff - I mean in the flesh. (Geez, does that sound any better?)

So it's probably a little early to be having this discussion - or big reveal - or probably not-so-big-a-surprise now, but I've had a few queries so I thought - why not?!

Which leads to the whole So After Jason, Now What?

Yes, Jason's 3 cousins will have their story. In fact, The Wells Brothers is the new trilogy I'm working on. Luke's story has been started. Yes, I know, starting with the middle brother is like a what-the-heck kind of thing, but it just kind of happened. Probably because this fruit cake kept popping up in Jason's story so much, I couldn't help but start with him first!

And *cough* his cover is pretty *hot* too! LOL Now that cover is inspiring!!!

While I have started Luke's story, Aaron's will be next, and then finally Blue's. At least that's the plan, whether Aaron and Blue agree I have no idea, but that's what's tapping away in my brain at the moment. We'll see if it happens in this order!

I know Luke, I kind of know Aaron, Blue is a complete mystery lingering in the shadows of my mind. Time will tell...
