Yardy's soft touch
I don't know how you like to make love, but if you like to be with someone who coaxes out your softer side, I suggest Michael Yardy.
It seems that no matter how rough and ready a batsman is or how much he wants to pound away, when Yardy is around its all soft touches and romantic inclinations.
It isn't just his ODI economy of 3.9 that makes me say this; I just can't really remember anyone ever really playing more than one aggressive shot off him a spell.
Even when he bowls the odd bad ball he...

Police support front yard cricket by arresting vicious ball stealer
For years we have al had to deal with them.
You know who I mean.
People who believe that kids shouldn't be allowed to play cricket, or football, or basketball, or practically any fucken thing within 300 yards of their house.
These people always act the same way, by keeping or damaging the ball so you don't get it back.
Well the winds of change are sweeping in and now these vile ball stealing creatures are being taught a lesson.
A mother in England has been arrested after failing to return the...

balls profile: Doug Bollinger
Doug Bollinger has been proving the Sampson fairy-tale since his international career began. He has the face of an angry baby, and sometimes the temper and temperament of one. There have been team mates, opposition players, media, people who met him once at a party and general fans who have said that Douggie can be prone to hilarious stupidity. They could be wrong and he could be an evil genius who has spent his whole life tricking people into thinking he is stupid to out think batsmen...
The Fine Line Between Being a Commentator and Being an Arse
Take it from me, commentary isn't easy. You have to know what you are talking about, be able to describe things and think on your feet. And not swear. Not swearing is very important – unless you book Jrod, in which case you ought to know what you are getting and plan to pay the fines accordingly.
And sometimes you just have to keep talking. The stunt that was pulled on Henry Blofeld in his first BBC commentary is now the stuff of legend. I used to do audio commentary for the blind, where you span
The Bangladeshis are Comi…oh!
Ladies and Gentlemen, you join us on the opening day of arguably the most pointless and least interesting ODI series since time began, a series in which England will, inevitably, win what Ben Folds called The Battle of Who Could Care Less.
You have to feel sorry for Bangladesh. Not only are they everyone's favourite whipping boys, they are getting royally buggered about by the fixture planners. Having been in England six weeks ago, they were then sent back to the sub-continent to play some...

balls profile: Ryan Sidebottom
While Sidebottom looks like a drummer in a cover band, he is actually a medium fast left arm swing bowler. In the modern game no bowler has ever improved form more by not being picked. Is out of the team so much he is a bit like the Maris Krane or Bob Sacamano of the English team. Is prone to extreme stroppiness when a fielder makes a mistake from his bowling, never once considering the fact that in reality he is quite rubbish at the whole fielding caper. On occasion he celebrates a...
Something good at the Oval
Surrey have given up defiling the Oval.
This Friday you can see Kent Vs Essex there.
I was told to promote this by Surrey directly.
Surrey have never told me to promote one of their games.
Think about that.
Exactly.
So if you want to see Kent Vs Essex in the big smoke come to the Oval at about 1730 for the start of the game.
Surrey fans should come too.
You can't get disappointed if your team isn't playing.

balls profile: Abdul Razzaq
Born in the late 1950s, Razzaq has been the mainstay of Pakistan cricket ever since he broke into the side in his 40s. Razzaq's left arm in delivery is trademarked. Starting out as a big hitting all rounder who bowls deceptive medium pace he has completely changed his game and is now known as a devious seam bowler who hits the ball a long way. Every couple of years he seems to disappear from cricket altogether, some think he fights wolves in that time, others think he gets a new plastic...
Murali set to retire
No one ever just retires anymore. They are always set to retire.
And Murali is set.
Sources close to him have set him, and so have the Sri Lankan website, so it can't be long before he confirms that the Galle test against India is his last.
Murali has been slipping for a while now, in 09 he averaged 46 in test matches, which for someone as machine like as him had to be a sign.
He can still bowl, but test cricket might just be a touch too far for the 38 year old.
8 wickets are what he needs to be ...
