Keisha’s never been able to squirt in private. What are the chances that she’ll be able to do it in a room full of naked women?

Voted Most Likely to Fail Miserably
You write a book. You think it's amazing. There's so much of YOU in it. There's so much truth and life and you're sure it's going to fly off the shelves. And then... it doesn't.
You write another book. You like it. It's good. There's nothing wrong with it, but maybe it's not so YOU and definitely more fiction than autobiography. And guess what? It's a hit!
In a new series here at Donuts and Desires, my fellow authors will be telling us about books they were sure would be a hit, but weren't. On the flip side, we'll get to hear about books that ended up selling unexpectedly well.
One problem: I can't seem to think up a name for this series. What should I call it? Any ideas?
Thanks!

Vampires Look Good On Paper (so do monsters, monks, and maidens)
When my anthology "Blood Addict" came out in October, a lot of readers expressed an interest in buying this collection as a paperback. Well, it's taken me three months to get things organized, but you'll be happy to know you can finally buy a copy of Blood Addict in print!
Spanning the ages from medieval fairy tales to today's dark desires, there's a story to meet every sultry taste in this collection of paranormal romance, menage and BDSM stories.
A jealous God keeps wicked Eve in a cage while a mountain monk guards his chastity with similar restraints. Recovering vampires fall to temptation when they find a cutter who claims to hold the cure. A Gothic mesmerist meets his demons in a repressed patient's nightmares. Twelve men fall to an enchantress’ curse while a sea creature drags an Inuit woman beneath the ice. A husband keeps his thirst for blood secret to protect his wife, and an office romance blossoms between an employee and his succubus boss.
Eight paranormal erotic tales from award-winning author Giselle Renarde.
Warnings: This collection features graphic language and explicit sex between monk and maiden, hypnotist and succubus, virgins, vampires, monsters and men.
Check out the table of contents, because it's possible you've purchased some of these titles as ebooks:
A Jealous God Jungfrau Blood Addict The Mesmerist and the Mare Princess of the Ravens Beneath the Ice Simple Neither Love Nor Money
Excerpt:Did she turn him around or did he do that himself? He couldn’t remember anymore. Somehow he ended up facing her. She tore off his tie with one hand while she found his cock with the other. How did she manage to zero in like that? Just wham! She had it in her fist, stroking hard through the fabric of his trousers.
Max knew Detta wouldn’t be gentle. He’d seen the violence in her, right from the start. She man-handled him, strong, tough, and she stood nearly his height in those fuck-me heels.
She only let go of his cock to bind his wrists behind him—and with his own tie, to boot. When she pressed him against the sideboard, he worried he might ruin one of the catalogue mock-ups, but if she didn’t care why should he? So he pressed his head against the glossy board while Bernadetta tore open his shirt.
Buttons went flying, sailing to the floor in slow motion. Each mother-of-pearl droplet settled like rain on the industrial carpet. He was so mesmerized by the subtle shimmer that he almost didn’t notice Detta ripping his belt from its loops. When she tossed it around her shoulders, it morphed into a black snake. Were his eyes playing tricks on him, or did his belt hiss while his boss opened his fly?
Max’s pants dropped to the floor with the weight of his wallet, his keys, and his merciless arousal.

Remembering My First Edit (When I Decided to Quit Writing Forever)
No writing today. I got some very thorough edits back on an upcoming novel, so that's where my attention's been focused.
Renee Rocco made this gorgeous coverBut as I filter through my editor's notes and happily make changes to the manuscript, I can't help remembering the very first edit I ever received, on my very first ebook ever published. This would have been in 2007 or so. That ebook was The Birthday Gift.
I'd only started writing professionally a year earlier. Some of my short stories had been published in Hustler Fantasies and now-defunct websites. Having lost my day job, I dove into writing. I wrote a lot, and I wrote fast.
At the start of my career in erotica, I was shopping Ondine and the manuscript that eventually became Good Bi Valentine around to publishers, but two things stood in my way:
These books weren't ready for publication--not even close.Finding a publisher for MFF menage/female bisexual stories (even if they were really great--and these were NOT) was decidedly challenging in a market crying out for MMF and male bisexuality. So, while Ondine was being rejected by publishers left, write and centre (and while some very lovely editors provided me detailed analysis and advice), I got to work on another story which would, hopefully, capture the market's interest.
The Birthday Gift started life as a 7,000-word MMFF menage story. I realize now (though I didn't at the time) that it was inspired by Patrick Califia's story "The Surprise Party" which I'd studied at the University of Toronto, if you can believe it.
When The Birthday Gift was picked up by the now-defunct Dark Eden Press, I was over the moon. We're talking deliriously happy.
And then my first round of edits came in.
I still remember the sensation in my head as I read the editor's initial comments. It felt like fire ants were eating my brain. It HURT. Physically. Because, though the editor wasn't mean or nasty about it (I've encountered some since who have been, so I can tell the difference), she made it clear that The Birthday Gift was nowhere near ready for publication. It would require three rounds of intensive edits. AT LEAST. I got the sense that she didn't feel the publisher should have contracted the piece in the first place. She was probably right, but what did I know?
Excellent question: what DID I know? About writing? About the market?
Nothing! I knew nothing. I knew nothing about the technicalities of writing. The editor taught me (I kid you not) what POV was. She taught me deep third. She laid my foundation. Not even kidding. I don't know where I'd be today without her.
I came into writing so naively that, if I'd known at the time how ridiculous I looked, I'd have never tried to get anything published. Maybe ignorance really is bliss. Or, at the very least, it allows us to take risks we otherwise wouldn't.
But I still remember that feeling of utter humiliation when I realized I'd put my work out there knowing nothing about anything. As I worked on the first round of edits for The Birthday Gift, I said to myself (and to others), "That's it. I'm never writing anything ever again." Editing was too hard. I was learning how to write, basically being tutored in the craft, and trying to incorporate those lessons into my work in the span of mere weeks. Of course it was hard!
But I did it because I had a contract. After the first round of edits came a second. I worked just as hard, felt just as embarrassed, and learned just as much. And on, with the third. And on. By publication time, the ebook was something like 15,000 words. Yes, the word count more than doubled, in edits. (Now I have the opposite problem--I write too much and need to cut my stories down to size.)
Selena Kitt made this cover. *drools*Somewhere along the lines, the pain and humiliation fell away. I worked on new manuscripts. "Good Bi Valentine" found its first home at Ruthie's Club, an erotica website that has since gone out of business. I revised Ondine about 40,000 times and kept shopping it around until it was picked up by eXcessica in 2010.
And now, somehow, it's 2014 and I still make my living as a writer.
For years after The Birthday Gift, I dreaded edits. Now they're just another aspect of the job, for the most part. I'm much more attuned to individual editors' personalities at this point. I gravitate toward publishing houses whose editors work with me to better my writing and away from those where editors seem to get their jollies out of launching holier-than-thou insults. Editing should be a collaborative effort, not a combative one.
Ultimately, the editing process can't be about ego. It can't be a tool to inflate one party and deflate the other. It has to be about the work. Nobody should feel beaten down at the end of the process, though I suspect many do feel that way, on both sides of the pen.
I happen to be working with a great team at the moment, so back to work...
But if you're interested in reading Ondine and Good Bi Valentine in their 14-bajillionth incarnations, both stories are available (along with a 20th-century historical called A Little Burlesque) in my lesBIan collection, newly available in print:
You can get lesBIan: 3 bisexual novellas RIGHT NOW at CreateSpace: https://www.createspace.com/4603097 and if you wait a day or two it should be available from Amazon. It's already listed there as an ebook, though the ebook is titled lesBIan Box Set. (Actually, you can get the ebook from All Romance and a bunch of other vendors, too, if you're not an Amazon person.)

Rainbow Night: Kinky Partner Swapping Erotica
If you picked up a copy of Best Women's Erotica back in 2011, you'll be familiar with my newest release, Rainbow Night. If you haven't read it and you're in the mood for a short story about swinging socialites, here it is!
When three couples gather for cocktails on the evening of Elliot and Adele's anniversary, the conversation gets stuck in boring mode. To liven things up, Adele mentions a report she's seen about "rainbow parties," where the girls go down on the guys wearing different shades of lipstick. Once she’s explained the concept to her husband and their friends, the idea of swapping partners becomes much more interesting than the stock market.
Originally published in Best Women’s Erotica 2011.
Word Count: 4,000
Excerpt:
“Let’s play a game!” Adele raised her brandy as she rose from her Art Shoppe chair.
Again, she caught nobody’s attention but Sissy’s. “What sort of game?”
Adele hadn’t thought that far ahead. “I don’t know, really. Backgammon?”
Sissy didn’t even reply before turning her gaze in Elliot’s direction. He went on and on about Dubai. If only she read newspapers or had something insightful to contribute. It didn’t even have to be news, just some piece of information that would capture everybody’s imagination.
“You know what I heard?” Adele asked, loudly enough to draw everybody’s attention. “I saw a report on the television… it’s really quite shameful, you know… it was about these parties teens are having… rainbow parties, I think they’re called...”

When three couples gather for cocktails on the evening of Elliot and Adele's anniversary, the conversation gets stuck in boring mode. To liven things up, Adele mentions a report she's seen about "rainbow parties," where the girls go down on the guys wearing different shades of lipstick. Once she’s explained the concept to her husband and their friends, the idea of swapping partners becomes much more interesting than the stock market.Originally published in Best Women’s Erotica 2011.

Top 3 Movies, Books and Albums of 2013
Okay, I'll start by saying that the title of this post is completely inaccurate. "Top 3" is necessarily subjective, but "of 2013" is a bit of a misnomer, too.
Because what I've got here is actually a list of the top 3 movies, books, and albums I watched, read, and listened to in 2013. They're not necessarily movies, books, or albums that were released, published, or dropped in 2013. In fact, I don't think any of them are.
Top 3 Movies
PariahPariah (2011): The film was recommended to me by all-round awesome author Richard Van Camp and, man, does he ever know my taste! Pariah is the story of a Brooklyn teenager navigating gender and sexual identities through poetry, love, and life. Literature surrounding the film describes the main character as a lesbian, ignoring the strong trans and genderqueer themes in the film, which I found to be more prevalent (could just be my focus). I actually appreciated that [spoiler--sorry!] the film didn't force itself to resolution on any count. There are no happily-ever-afters, here. Everything falls apart for this character, and yet it's an incredibly uplifting film.
[image error]Les emotifs anonymes
Les émotifs anonymes (2010): Yeah, it's French. Don't bust my balls. I watched it on Netflix and it was listed as Romantics Anonymous, with English subtitles. So you too can watch this movie and be entertained! Actually, it's pretty much the polar opposite to Pariah. I can't believe I turned it on, because I hate romantic comedies, but this film about two chocolatiers with social anxiety disorder is just so motherfucking cute that I couldn't get enough. I watched it twice.
Monsieur Ibrahim
Monsieur Ibrahim (2003): Omar Sharif and a kid star in this film set in Paris in the 60's. Just a great movie. I'm a sucker for inter-generational friendships. Also French. So what? Stop calling me a snob.
Top 3 Books
Stephen King On Writing: This thoughtful gift from my girlfriend was my first encounter with Stephen King, if you can believe it. I would call this a book "of special interest to writers" rather than a book "for writers" because I think any reader would find it entertaining. There's a ton of autobiography, and in fact relatively little "on writing" but... oh well. It's still great.
Opening Up by Tristan Taormino: I think I've reviewed this guide to creating and sustaining open relationships at least twice on the blog (and on other blogs, and on Amazon) so I won't go into too much detail. Suffice to say this is a great book for anyone, whether or not you're in/considering open relationships. If you've got issues with jealousy (in or out of romantic/sexual relationships), this book could be really helpful.
Missing Pieces by Joy Fielding: My reason for including this book is kind of weird. Joy Fielding sometimes teaches writing courses through my Alma Mater's continuing education department, but I've never read her work. Missing Pieces is an older book (from 1997?) and as I read it I was amazed by how many of my own writing mistakes I could pick out of her work. It's always easier to see your faults in other people, but I still hold this stupid belief that other authors are "real authors" and I'm a fake. When I see faults my editors catch in a respected writer's published book, I feel a little less like a fraud.
Top 3 Albums
[image error]Snowblink: Inner Classics
Snowblink: Inner Classics (2012): Only half an hour of music on this disc of surf songs, but buy it if you have trouble sleeping. This is the perfect lullaby album. That sounds like an insult, but it's not. The songs are gorgeous.
[image error]Austra: Feel It Break
Austra: Feel It Break (2011): Trippy and hypnotic, this album has been my anthem since I bought it in the summer. I have no idea what she's saying half the time, but I don't care. I like to be mesmerized by music and Feel It Break does the trick.
[image error]Love This Giant
St. Vincent and David Byrne: Love This Giant (2012): This album won my heart the first time I heard the first track playing on CBC Radio. I've never heard anything like it. Jazz ensembles, which vary by track, come together in this inter-generational collaboration (hey hey!) to produce some wonderful, weird-ass music. I've played this album for everyone close to me and when it starts they screw up their faces and say, "What IS this?" and when it ends they say, "Can we listen to it again?" Every. Time.
Top 3 Me
You know, as I was typing up my favourite reads from 2013, I asked myself which were the 3 best books I WROTE in 2013. I didn't even have to think about it: my Adam and Sheree novellas, absolutely. All three.
What's so great about them? They're just smut. And, what's worse, they're taboo smut. They've all been banned by Amazon, and, more recently, Kobo. Don't even
try finding them at any of the romance ebook specialty stores. (You'll have to check out Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, or the publisher--eXcessica Eden)
So what makes three novellas about a brother and sister fucking unapologetically my best of 2013? Well... because they are SMUT. Just like it says on the packet. They're not trying to be anything they're not. They're three books full of sex. And
the sex is damn good. There's nothing redeeming about them. Just pure taboo erotica.
In fact, screw 2013, Adam and Sheree's Family Vacation, Family Business, and Family Christmas are the best books I've ever written.
Over to you: which movies, books, and albums made an impact on you in 2013?
Happy New Year,

That Little Perv Is At It Again: My Sexy Teacher, My First Time
Remember Lexi Wood? Sure you do. She's the sock puppet who's got her own section on my blog. She drives me nuts, but I just can't say no.
I thought she'd given up on smut after her first novella (Dance for Daddy, Salome) was banned by Amazon. It might be back now (as something like Dance for ME, Salome, since you can't say "Daddy" at Amazon) but what the hell do I know? That's Lexi's problem.
Anyway, she's got another ebook on the market now. It's a barely-legal first-time student/teacher piece of crap called My Sexy Teacher, My First Time. I don't even know why I'm telling you about it. I do way too much for this chick.
But just in case erotica set in a 1970s high school appeals to you, here's the blurb and whatever:
Lots of girls have crushes on sexy high school teachers. When eighteen-year-old April Andrews’ biology teacher tells her they can’t be together, will she take his rejection lying down? Or will she try even harder to make him her first?
Excerpt:
When the bell sounded, I was surprised to hear him say, “Miss Andrews, would you stay a moment after class, please?”
Some of the girls made an “Ooooh” sound as they walked by me, and I realized for the first time how transparent I’d been, and how I’d put Mr. Lindbeck in danger of losing his job. If the principle thought there was anything going on between my teacher and I, Mr. Lindbeck would be fired for sure. It didn’t matter that I’d already turned eighteen and was officially an adult—I was a student and any relationship that blossomed between us would be utterly unacceptable.
Why had it taken me so long to realize that?
I approached the long podium from which Mr. Lindbeck taught, and even before the class had cleared out I apologized for what I’d said the week before.
“Never mind,” he replied, in a way that made me think perhaps he wasn’t angry anymore. “You missed half a week’s work, Miss Andrews. There’s plenty of catching up to do if you don’t want your grades to slip.”
“Thank you,” I said. I still couldn’t bear to look him in the eye. “I’m sorry. I mean it, sir. I’m terribly, terribly sorry for saying… what I said.”
He chuckled as the last students filtered out of the classroom, and he closed the door after them.
And locked it.
***If you actually want to buy Lexi's stupid story, it's available from Smashwords:
https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/375134
You might even find it at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Sock Puppet Author Lexi WoodLEXI WOOD is a sock puppet who came to life one night while her keeper was out picking up Chinese food. When nobody’s around, she bashes her face against a typewriter until stories come out. And those stories are shocking.
Lexi’s exterior is 53% acrylic, 37% nylon, and 10% recycled tinsel. On the inside, she’s full of bloodlust, wanderlust, lust-lust, bathtub gin, and pills she found on the floor. She also got into those tranquilizers you give your cat to get it in the travel carrier. You shouldn’t leave those things lying around.
Handmade in Vulgaria.
When she’s feeling dirty, Lexi likes to be held in soapy water and rubbed vigorously. In her spare time, she sits on the shelf, waiting for someone to shove a fist in her hole.
Who would? Lexi Wood!

Waxing is for Pussies: Act fast and you just might get it FREE!
A kinky lesbian threesome for anyone who enjoys hot wax, slick lips, and warm tongues. Claire is a butch dyke who doesn't go in for "girly" stuff. When her girlfriend Billie takes up hot waxing at the salon where she works, she asks Claire to be her test subject. She also asks the gorgeous receptionist Soo Jin to give her hand. How will Claire and Billie react when Soo Jin takes the request for help as an invitation to a kinky threesome?
Excerpt:
I closed my eyes. I didn’t want to see what was going on. In fact, a set of headphones would have been nice. Then I wouldn’t have been able to hear Soo Jin scolding my girlfriend as she did everything wrong.
Leaning close, Soo Jin licked my nipples. That tongue was magic. She blew cool air on my tits just as Billie came in with the wax. It felt like hot honey spreading through my pubic hair and down my inner thighs. I understood food fetishists a little better as hot wax spread across my skin, making me wet.
“Now put the muslin on top and press down,” Soo Jin instructed.
Billie did as she was told, applying pressure to the strip of fabric. “Is it okay, Claire?”
“Oh yeah.” I moaned as Soo Jin led her hot tongue across my chest. “I’m feeling pretty great right now, I gotta say.”
With a smirk that could have been mistaken for cruel, Billie said, “Good.”
Soo Jin turned toward Billie and her silky hair splashed across my chest. Billie raised a conspiring eyebrow as her co-worker said, “Remember to slap her. Slap her hard. It’s got to be hard.”
