Look what ka-thudded through my mail slot today

Hmm. That sounds dirty.

Anyhoo, remember the other day how I said I was expecting Best Bondage Erotica 2014 to ka-thud through my mail slot and instead it was Kristina Wright's XOXO?

Well, today Best Bondage Erotica 2014 took its turn:

I'd seen the cover before (love it) but hadn't realized the woman had on neon pink and green nail polish. I love it even more now.

I don't wear nail polish, as you can see. But that's my story. You can read about my inspiration here: http://bestbondageerotica2014.tumblr.com/post/74199219596/best-bondage-erotica-2014-contributor-interview

I'm just looking at the back cover, and one of the stories mentioned is Annabeth Leong's "Eel."  I just can't get over how weird that word looks. "eel" looks normal. "Eel" just looks strange.  And now I'm wondering if there's an eel in her story, and remembering the episode of Frasier where he and Niles buy a restaurant and Daphne smacks an eel.

Seems I'm getting a little off-topic, here, so let's just leave it at this: I have Best Bondage Erotica 2014 and you don't! (Sucks to be you!)  But if you want to get your (nail-polished? not nail-polished?) hands on a copy, it's published by Cleis Press and available from.... these places:

Alpha's Claim: Manlove Edition (Gay SHIFTER Erotic Romance)

Evernight Publishing has a new release that's bound to be a bestseller!
Alpha's Claim: Manlove Edition is shifter erotic romance starring MEN MEN MEN.  I have a story in the collection, if you can believe it.

My story BE THE BOSS is about a gay couple. They've been living together for 7 years and things are getting a little... well, you know.  They're in couples' counseling, but it's not really happening. Both guys want someone to take charge, but neither is comfortable in that role. One night, when they get home from their therapist's office, there's a raccoon tearing through their garbage...

Have you ever read about a story about a raccoon shifter?  No?  Well, then you'd better grab a copy of:

Alpha's Claim: Manlove Edition

Strength. Power. Domination.

The shifters in our Alpha's Claim: Manlove Edition anthology have one thing in common—they won't take “no” for an answer. Whether they lead packs of their own, or whether they walk a solitary path, these alphas won't let anyone stop them from claiming their men.

Lose yourself in these ten sinfully delicious love stories. After all, who could deny an Alpha’s claim?

Be Warned: m/m sex

Surprise, Surprise! XOXO: Sweet and Sexy Romance

When I heard the ka-thud of books falling through my mail slot, I figured it had to be my contributor's copies of Best Bondage Erotica 2014.  Well, it wasn't.  It was a surprise--a book I'd forgotten my story (The War at Home) had been included in: Kristina Wright's XOXO: Sweet and Sexy Romance published by Cleis Press.

Awww.... would you look at that sweet and sexy cover!  And Lexi's book poster snuck into the background, looks like.
That's my name in a book! (It never gets old, even when your name's in 100+ books. [Sorry if that sounds douchey {sorry for apologizing--I am Canadian, after all}])

XOXO: Sweet and Sexy Romance is published by Cleis Press and available from Amazon

More Taboo Smut from Lexi: Frankie Steps Up

Lexi's up to her old tricks, and the newest trick up her sleeve is a stepmom/stepson pseudoincest ebook called FRANKIE STEPS UP.

In case you haven't met Lexi Wood, she's the sock puppet who lives in my apartment and writes some really raunchy books by bashing her face against the keyboard of my Mac.  She's... a bit of a pain, frankly.  We've got a contentious relationship, here. (I don't like sharing my space)

Aaanyway, Lexi's got this new story on the market and I told her I'd give it a little plug, since I made the cover. (got that achingly gorgeous girl from Max Egon Stock Photos, btw. Mmm-Mmm-MILF!)

Jeeze, I really do a lot for this chick, don't I?

FRANKIE STEPS UP
by Lexi Wood

Frankie’s kind of a nerd. Okay, full disclosure: he’s a HUGE nerd. Everyone in his graduating class teases him relentlessly. That’s why he’s shocked when Leslie, leader of the mean girls, steals his phone to put her number in it.  Little does he know the girls have orchestrated a cruel trick: they’ve sent a nasty sext to Frankie’s stepmother, pretending to be him. How will Frankie react when he gets home to find his sexy stepmom is up for anything?

Meet Lexi Wood. She's a sock puppet.
Excerpt:
“Get up here, young man.”  She sounded serious.  “I’d like to have a word with you.”Oh god, had Leslie really told the principle that he’d exposed his dick to half the graduating class? Fuck!“A word?”  Frankie’s blood ran cold.  “What about?”“Just get upstairs, Frankie. I’m not going to have an entire conversation shouting from one floor to the next.”His head buzzed.  He felt dizzy and… oh god, his knees were giving out beneath him.  He could hardly walk, but he somehow managed to pull himself up the stairs.  “Where are you?”“In the bedroom. Where else would I be?”Probably doing yoga.  The master suite was huge and she often worked out in the afternoon. Sometimes the sight of her in those tight-fitting clothes… well, there was a reason he didn’t bring his friends home to meet the family.  He knew they’d be drooling all over her and never let him live it down.  Really, if she wasn’t his stepmother, he might be tempted to think of her that way, too. Her door was half-open, and Frankie took a deep breath before charging confidently forth.  “If Mr. Rajnaratnam called, I don’t think it’s fair for him to be talking to you without getting my side of the story first, because Leslie and the girls…”Mummy Dearest wasn’t doing yoga.  She wasn’t wearing tight-fitting pants.  She wasn’t wearing a purple spandex tank top.  In fact, she wasn’t wearing any pants.  She wasn’t wearing any top.

Trials and Triumps Guest Post by V.L. Locey

Many thanks, Giselle, for having me here!                 Hello all, my name is V.L. Locey, and I`m a multigenre romantica author. I`m also not the best judge of what the book buying community likes on occasion. I thought I was, I mean, I really did. Who would have guessed that selling a zombie romantic comedy would be so darned hard?                 I think that the combination of the words 'romance' and 'zombie' kind of freaks out  most readers of romance out. I can sort of see why. Zombies are rather squicky. But what about zombie hunters? They`re not squicky at all. Just ask the seventy-two billion fans of Daryl Dixon.  I bet none of them think he`s squicky. I sure don`t. *fans face*
When I penned my first zom-rom-com as I like to call them, it was part of an anthology. The short story, Two Guys Walk Into An Apocalypse, garnered some high praise. My publisher and I were both excited to bring more to the readers, so I decided to write a few follow up novellas. The second novella, Two GuysWalk Into An Apocalypse 2: It Came From Birmingham, was released. It did very little in terms of sales despite pulling in some good reviews from the few folks who read it. I was stumped, and frankly, I still am. It has everything. Two hot gay leading men, laughs, zombies, drama, action, sex, Tennyson. Yet sales languished. I know that zombie romance is a niche market, but I`m still stymied over how poorly the book did.                 On the flip side of the 'Go Figure' coin is my surprise over how many people fell in love with my skunk shifter, Templeton Reed, in my M/M shifter novella, An Erie Halloween. Yes, I thought it was a good solid story, but I was highly skeptical of a skunk shifter being able to lure in the readers. Generally shifters are powerful animals -  wolves, big cats, or bruins - that ooze sexuality.
My leading man was going to be a mild-mannered office worker that turned into a striped skunk when pressured. I was stunned when so many fans of the genre - as well as reviewers - embraced this meek, near-sighted, sometimes offensive manimal. Whatever it is in Templeton that draws the readers, I can`t say for sure, but I am more than happy about how people seem to be enjoying Templeton and his wolfish lover, Mikel. I`m already working on a follow-up novella for the lads along the shore of Lake Erie.                 Hopefully it will do well. I think it might. Then again we all have seen what happens when I think something is going to go one way . . .

Leslie Goosemoon Rides Again... AGAIN!

Well, look who got passed over when I was re-releasing my trans erotic romance stories as ebooks:

Leslie Goosemoon the cowgirl used to be Leslie Goosemoon the cowboy, and folks in these parts don't take kindly to changes.

New to the rodeo experience, Dina doesn't understand why the biggest star on the circuit is despised by all. When she runs a search on the rodeo champ, it all becomes clear: Leslie Goosemoon the cowgirl used to be Leslie Goosemoon the cowboy, and folks in these parts don't take too kindly to those people. The town's intolerable ignorance drives Dina to seek out Leslie at her modest cabin, where desire is sparked by enlightening conversation, dusty jeans, and a refreshing shower in the great outdoors.

Leslie Goosemoon Rides Again was originally published in the anthology “My Mistress’ Thighs.”

Excerpt:
“Leslie?” Dina cried as she chased down the rodeo champ. “Leslie Goosemoon? Wait up, will ya?”
When the remarkable rider stopped in her tracks, Dina slowed from a gallop to an amble.  It felt like a good five minutes before the mysterious stranger turned her head.  Even when she did, the brim of her tawny cowboy hat obscured her eyes.
Leslie Goosemoon took her hat off to wipe dusty sweat from her brow.  “Well?”
Dina’s blood ran cold.  She wasn’t anticipating such piercing eyes on a rough and tumble rider.  Her eyes should be as muddy as the spray across her cheek.
“Hi,” Dina began, forgetting why she’d chased the rodeo rider down in the first place.
“Whaddya want?” Leslie grumbled, her quick-draw stance keeping Dina at a distance.
“It just seems strange that nobody came to congratulate you. All the other girls in competition have their legions of fans.  Here you’re the big winner and you’ve got no one telling you how great you rode today.”  Dina tried to sound casual, taking a tentative step forward.
With a shrug, Leslie Goosemoon replied, “Lots of folks on the circuit could do without me.”
“Well, of course they could; if you weren’t around, those other girls might have a chance in hell at winning.  Do you always ride like that?”
Another shrug, and a fraction of a smile.
“This is my first time,” Dina went on with a keen smirk.  “At a rodeo, I mean.”
“That so?” Leslie asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yup.”  Silence made Dina nervous, so she filled it.  “My roommate’s boyfriend, Rod the Clod, commandeered our TV during the Calgary Stampede last year.  I never liked cowboy stuff before that, but when you’re subjected to something night and day…”
“…it grows on you.”
“Exactly. Although, I never did warm up to Rod the Clod.”  Dina hesitated, but what the hell.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained.  “I probably hated him so much because that rat bastard totally crushed my chance to get with Vicky.  Hard to make a move with him on the couch twenty-four-seven.”
With a wolfish smile, Leslie gave Dina a blatant once-over.  “You lookin’ to get over Vicky?”
Dina shrugged, meeting her penetrative gaze straight on.  Leslie took two steps closer.  In one fluid motion, her arm swooped around Dina’s waist and a dusty hand brushed through her hair, firm against her scalp.  Those pink lips hovered like Tantalus’ water glass, so close she could nearly sip them.
“Best way to get over someone is to get under someone,” Dina whispered, giving herself in to a searing embrace.***

Two Things About Friday Night Lipstick: Review Copies and Print Available!

Well, here's something new about my transgender lesbian erotic romance novella, Friday Night Lipstick:

It's now available in print!
Yup, it's only a 15,000-word love story but I thought... what the hell?  Why not make it available as a paperback for those who prefer reading print? (I must admit, I am one of those people--I STILL don't read ebooks, if you can believe it!)

Print Cover--BackWhen Friday Night Lipstick was rereleased this summer, I was amazed at how well it sold. Two reasons.

1) This was the second edition, and the first edition had only sold, like, three copies? I don't know. Something like that.

2) The stars of the show are older adults. Trans women don't often get their own love stories, but when they do it's rare indeed for them to be in the 50+ age group.

Get it in print from CreateSpace: https://www.createspace.com/4607946

If you haven't read Friday Night Lipstick and you'd like to, I'm now giving away review copies of the ebook!

What's that mean?  It means I'll happily send you a FREE copy of Friday Night Lipstick, and in exchange you provide an honest review of the novella at Amazon. You can also post your review at Barnes and Noble, Goodreads, your blog, and wherever else, but my primary focus is Amazon.

Remember to include in your review that you were provided a copy of Friday Night Lipstick from the author in exchange for your honest opinions.

Here's how to get your review copy. Fill out this form:

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey , the world's leading questionnaire tool.
If that for doesn't show up for you, for whatever reason, here a web link to it: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JPWXNS7

It's been sooo long...

Donuts and Desires is a bit of a tease, according to certain readers who shall remain unnamed (mostly because I can't remember who said it). "Where are the donuts? How can you call yourself Donuts and Desires and have no donuts?"

Fair enough. It's been a very long time since I've featured anything donut-related here at D&D. So today I bring you the...

PECAN TORTOISE TORTE
...from Tim Horton's.
Apparently there was some sort of contest and the Pecan Tortoise Torte was the winner.  From the website:
Voted by Canadians as the Duelling Donuts winner, the Pecan Tortoise Torte is now available for a limited time! After 63,000 donut entries, 8 outstanding donut finalists, and 144,000 votes, the winning donut is made with caramel filling, praline pecans and caramel drizzle.

It's got my vote of approval, that's for sure. I thought it would be messy, but it held together very well, even with all the chocolate, drizzle, and pralines on top. The caramel filling was sweet, but not so much that it hurt my teeth.

Good choice, Canada! You know your donuts.

New (Surprise!) Release: Mistaken Identity

I'm springing this one on you. Surprise!  It's Mistaken Identity, part of New Dawning's Women's Fantasies line:

When Brenda’s abducted by two secret agents who are convinced she's someone else, their interrogation techniques get a little unconventional. There's a first-time lesbian encounter, shaving in a seedy motel room, a threesome in the shower... she gets everything she ever wanted, and all she wants is more!

Excerpt:“My arms!” Brenda cried, struggling against the strain in her shoulders and upper back. “Who are you? Why are you doing this to me?”

A dark window came down in front of her, and a gush of new car smell hit her in the face. The man from restaurant met her gaze in the mirror as the car squealed out of the alley. “Didn’t my partner introduce herself?”

Brenda’s stomach lurched when they stopped—too fast—for a red light. For some reason, she didn’t want to get the pretty girl in trouble, and said, “Green. She’s Green, she said. She did introduce herself, yes, but I don’t know who you are, or why you… why… why am I here?”

Her body gave in to the onslaught of tears, and she hung her head, letting them fall unhindered into her lap. She could have used a little tenderness, maybe an arm around her shoulders, but Green didn’t budge. All she said, was, “Come on, Mitzi. Get a grip. Enough with the waterworks.”

“Green!” said the man in the driver’s seat. His tone sounded castigating, and that made Brenda feel somewhat vindicated. “Maybe she doesn’t know.”

“Know what?” Brenda howled. “What’s going on? Why do you keep calling me Mitzi?”

“What would you like us to call you?” the driver asked.

“Brenda,” she blubbered. “My name is Brenda.”

Green shook her head. “She’s not co-operating, Red. This one’s gonna be a tough nut to crack.”

“We’re not cracking any nuts, here,” said the driver—Red, apparently—when Brenda howled. “Look what you’re doing to the woman, Green. Lay off for a while.”

“Lay off the wife of a key player in a major crime syndicate?” Green sneered.

“What?” Brenda cried. And suddenly, out of nowhere, she was laughing. “Who, Danny? You think he’s a mob boss? My husband won’t even cross against a light.”

Green let out a growl. “See, Red? Stonewalling us. They’re all the same, these mob bitches.”

It's great. You should buy it.

Trials and Triumphs: The Pagan Sorceress (A Guest Post by Slave Nano)

Today is the first day of the rest of my blog! I mean, today's post is the first in a series called Trials and Triumphs (thanks, Sally!), about how the books we authors think are sure-fire hits tend to flop and the books we don't have high hopes for can succeed beyond measure.

Thank you to Slave Nano for providing the first in a series:

Slave Nano: The Pagan SorceressBefore I start can I say what a great idea Giselle has come up with for a series of blogs.  As authors I’m sure at some time we’ve all written something we think is great but which nobody else does and have wondered why! The story I have that fits that bill is one called The Pagan Sorceress.  This is a novella length book (15,000 words) published by House of Erotica in Aug 2012.  I’ve included the story blurb with this blog but, briefly, this story switches between a contemporary setting and Anglo-Saxon times and involves the intertwining of characters between the two periods. It's erotica but part historical and part paranormal.Personally, I like the story.  I’d set myself the challenge of both trying to switch between the two periods and consciously writing in a different style.  I deliberately wrote the Anglo-Saxon part of the story in the language of an Anglo-Saxon heroic saga such as Beowulf.  At the time I felt I’d done a pretty good job and was pleased with the results.I did all I reasonably could to promote the book, given that I work full time (so, probably not nearly enough).  I wrote what I thought was a tolerably engaging story blurb (see what you think for yourself).  I arranged a couple of blog tours for it, I publicised as much as I could through social networks and sent out some review copies.  The book hardly sold any copies, so what went wrong?  Well, on reflection, I think there were several reasons in addition to the general issue of how you make your book stand out amongst the many out there. 1) There was too much going on in a novella length book to market it to any particular audience.  It was erotica, it was historical and it was paranormal.  The basic idea would have made for a great historical romance, but that’s not what I do or where I wanted to take it. This meant it got lost between different sub-genres.2) The story was originally written for a specific submission that had a 15,000 word limit.  That was probably never really long enough to develop the story fully.  So, lesson learned there is to write the story you think is right rather than try to squeeze it into an artificial word limit for a specific submission call.3) The language of the Anglo-Saxon part of the story was a problem.  Yet for me this was part of the writing challenge I’d set myself and an integral part of what I’d set out to do.  I think a warning sign was when one reviewer, who had earlier reviewed another book of mine favourably, asked me if she had the final version or an un-edited draft.  Oh dear!  She had not got it.  I had to explain that, no this was the final version and that the language was meant to be like that and was a conscious attempt to mimic the style of an Anglo-Saxon heroic saga.  Having said that, this can’t be the main reason the book didn’t sell because a reader would only encounter the language after buying the book!Basically I had a story that was trying to do too much in too short a space and with some challenging language.  So, on reflection, I can understand why it didn’t sell.  For my part, I think it’s a good story and I still feel I met the challenges I set myself pretty well. The idea could have been written with more commercial success as a straight forward historical romance but that’s not what I wanted to do.  And for an author I guess this is the crunch question - do you write what you want to write or do you write to sell to specific audience?  I fall in the former camp, which means I have to accept that some of my books won’t sell.  But then that’s an easier position to adopt if you’re not dependent on writing to eat!Buy linksAmazon.co.ukhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Pagan-Sorceress-ebook/dp/B008Y25MDQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1348169378&sr=1-1Amazon.comhttp://www.amazon.com/The-Pagan-Sorceress-ebook/dp/B008Y25MDQ/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1348169573&sr=1-7&keywords=the+pagan+sorceress
Story blurbSam is about to carry out a strange experiment.  She is an archaeology student specialising in reconstructive archaeology and her idea is to recreate an Anglo-Saxon pagan burial ceremony.  It’s Samhain eve and the night of a full moon so it’s the perfect time to carry out such a ritual.  She enlists the help of her friend, Dan, and together they go off to the site of a burial mound where wonderful swords and sceptres were excavated many years ago. A travelling story teller is at the court of a Saxon king.  He recites the tale of two soul-entwined lovers from an earlier, more chaotic, period when king’s warred amongst each other.  He tells the tragic tale of Cyneburh, Pagan sorceress and daughter of the mighty Pagan king Penda and Alhfrith, son of Athelwald the king of Deira, her hero-warrior lover and betrothed.  The two kings have formed a mighty political and religious alliance but, more than that, the young woman and man have forged a passionate union of their own.  But this new alliance has enemies and before their wedding night is over there will be a tragic outcome.  As King Penda stands at the edge of their burial chamber he invokes a curse of vengeance against the murderous act perpetrated against him.  But, how many years will it take before he is finally avenged? As Sam stands on top of the burial mound dressed as an Anglo-Saxon pagan priestess with Dan at her side, is she aware of what ancient powers she will invoke as their lives become entwined with those of Cyneburh and Alhfrith from many centuries ago?  Will the pagan king’s oath of vengeance be fulfilled?  Will the souls of the two lovers be finally released?Story extractLo! Hearken all to me.  Greetings most worthy and noble king.  Lord of mead hall and giver of rings.  This humble skald offers greeting and proffers thanks for the hospitality of your fabled hall.  Hearty of fare and potent of ale, the warmth of your hearth is most welcome to a traveling story teller seeking shelter from wind-blown wastes of moor and fen.  Noble heroes and retainers, arraigned with gifts and loyal of heart, I also partake of the generosity of your lord.  No debt of wergild or threat of blood feud disturbs the harmony of his hall or the peace of his lands.  But it was not always thus.  Albion’s blessed shores were not always so united in loyalty and bound by kinship.  I bring you a tale from a dark past when warring thanes fought and fierce retainers clashed with bloodied sword in angry feud, when great kingdoms and noble lords battled for land and treasure of victory in war to distribute to their loyal thanes, when old religion and new were locked in deadly combat for the faith of their people. I bring you a tragic tale of two soul entwined lovers cut down in the prime of their youth; of Cyneburh, pagan priestess, daughter of Penda, king of Mercia and Alhfrith, hero-warrior, son of Athelwald, lord of Deira. About the authorSlave Nano is a writer of erotic paranormal and fantasy stories with bdsm and fetish themes.  He has had short stories and novellas published by Xcite Books and House of Erotica.  His erotic novel, ‘Adventures in Fetishland’, was published by Xcite Books in March 2012.Web site: www.slavenano.co.uk Giselle Renarde
