book news, Ascendio news

Kind readers,

I have been hard at work upon my upcoming book, The Severus Snape Paradigm: Outcast, Rebel, Hero. I am at the halfway mark.

I put together the structure of the book last July, and I shall share it with you again below, including the tarot archetypes that are inspiring me (although, it must be said, my interpretations of the cards are related to my mystical understanding of Professor Snape and are thus often wildly creative and sometimes at considerable variance with traditional meanings):

The book is divided into three parts, each composed of three essays, all of which are interrelated and build upon each other.

Outcast

The Waif (The Fool)

The Wizard (The Magician)

The Warrior (The Chariot)

Rebel

The Messenger (The Hermit)

The Master (The Wheel of Fortune) -I am busy writing this one now

The Mystic (The Hanged Man)

Hero

The Hell-Raiser (The Tower)

The Helper (Judgment)

The Healer (The World)

The essays also contain very personal passages that relate, in the context of each essay, how Professor Snape has affected me and my worldview.

The book will be finished at the start of May. It will be available directly from lulu not too long after that, and should be available on amazon in time for Ascendio. I shall be signing copies of the book during the convention.

Ah yes! I almost forgot… I shall be lecturing at some point during Ascendio as well. My presentation will be based on the book and will be called "Chariot, Hanged Man, World: The Cosmic Ascent of Severus Snape."

well on the way

Kind readers,

last night, Tiffany put the finishing touches to my left arm… It is all extremely beautiful and the sight of it upholds me.

I am extremely fortunate to have such a talented artist adorning my limbs.

These photos were taken right after the session was over:

She added a second leaf to the lily on the back of my forearm, and redid the fine outline around the first leaf and the lily itself (they had gotten a bit lost in the green color). She also added lovely stars around the snake-sword-cauldron piece.

And these were taken this morning, after I removed the bandage and washed my latest ink:

I am very much looking forward to sharing the art with my loved ones at Ascendio! I recently booked my flight and this week had my first dream about being unable to find my hotel room. So we are well on the way ;-)

In other news, I am hard at work on The Severus Snape Paradigm… For the next two months, I shall be hidden behind piles of books and papers. I am happy to report that it is going well, although, as usual, I have no idea whether what I am scribbling is good or not. I am hopeful it will be… whatever it is meant to be.

It appears that there will be a book fair during the convention, and if all goes well I shall be signing copies of the book there. I shall keep you posted!

Compassionate Rebel

Kind readers,

I returned home not too long ago after my latest session with Tiffany… She is amazing.

A few more pieces were added to my arm.

Professor Snape's wand, with a vial containing his silver blue tears. The level of detail in the carvings on the handle was too great to reproduce without them all being reduced to a sort of mish mash, and so Tiffany made the handle smooth… I am utterly thrilled with how it came out. The vial has Bodhisattva symbolism; overtones of Kuan Yin, "the Compassionate Rebel," in particular: Goddess of mercy, whose name means "One who hears the cries of the world" and who keeps "sweet dew, the nectar of Wisdom and Compassion," "a stream of healing water" in a bottle ["It is relevant here to observe that Kuan Yin is often depicted in art holding a leafy twig, derived from the 'weeping willow' tree, known so due to its trailing leafy branches that droop to the ground and along which raindrops trickle down like tears."] "You put my tears in your bottle" (Psalm 56:8)

My first lily, which now has a leaf and an unopened bud. As I told Tiffany, "the bud stands for all those who have ever been told they were no good. I'm here to tell them that they are good."

Whew -I am a bit tired now!

In other news, I have been hard at work upon my upcoming book of essays, The Severus Snape Paradigm. Ascendio is getting closer… I booked my plane tickets the other day.

Love, my teacher

Kind readers,

while I am working on The Severus Snape Paradigm, I am also trying to read a large pile of books that will inspire and guide my thoughts…

I started with The Hero with a Thousand Faces, and now I am debating which one to read next. Rumi? Revelations of Divine Love? The Sufi Book of Life? Meditations on the Tarot? The Secret Teachings of All Ages? Jung?

I wish I could read them all simultaneously!

My goal with this book is -as usual- to comfort outcasts… Les mal-aimés. Though I am not sure if "goal" is the right word; it is my hope.

Speaking of books, I am almost finished reading Ordinary People as Monks & Mystics, and have found it very uplifting.

This life will not last long… Only one thing truly matters. Love. I shall live my life, rejoicing in each day, the eyes of my soul affixed to what includes and goes beyond all that can be seen.

Offbeat Home

Kind readers,

last summer, the managing editor of Offbeat Home asked if I would submit photos of my sanctuary (a.k.a. the dungeons) to their blog, and possibly write a guest post.

A few weeks ago, I finally got around to doing so.

You can find the article here!

now, and Always

Kind readers,

I had more lilies added to the arm of Snapeness… Severus deserved a whole garden of them, I thought.

As always, Tiffany did an exquisite job. It is such a pleasure being tattooed by her. Next up: Professor Snape's wand, with a vial containing his silver tears, right above the words Half-Blood Prince. It will be beautiful, and again, highly significant.

I am currently working on The Severus Snape Paradigm (and reading a large pile of mystical and esoteric texts). Ascendio is already just a few short months away!

To strengthen me, I made this new set of prayer beads the other day:

The prayer I repeat is "now, and Always." I am at one with the manifested, and embody a part of the Unmanifested. I am a combination of polarities, and transcend all polarities. I see beauty and Love everywhere, both in what is smooth, and what is rough. Every day, I am reborn.

hope, always

Kind readers,

look at the beautiful drawing that my talented friend Ben Wu did for me…

It will be on the postcards I shall send loved ones for Christmas/Yule/season-of-joy-and-renewal.

In other news, I shall be spending my winter at work on The Severus Snape Paradigm: Outcast, Rebel, Hero. Ascendio is just a few short months away now… Egad.

cosmic wholeness

Kind readers,

another piece was added to my "arm of Snapeness" yesterday…

As always, Tiffany's work was marvelous. I am extremely happy with my latest ink.

The piece features the sword of Gryffindor, a Slytherin inspired snake, and a cauldron exactly like the one on the cover of Advanced Potions Making. The tattoo symbolizes eternity, universal oneness, wholeness, polarity, wisdom, courage, gnosis, esoteric knowledge. The Victorious Outsider. The snake and the smoke emanating from the cauldron form a sort of infinity symbol; the sword and cauldron resemble a lingam and yoni.

It embodies my worldview and evolving spiritual understanding.

After New Year's, I shall get more three more lilies done. They will be right underneath "Always" higher up on my left arm. They will be a mystical garden for Professor Snape, you might say.

the red and the black

Kind readers,

my talented friend Diane took some beautiful photos of me yesterday… It had been a long time since we had done a shoot together, and we were very much looking forward to contemplative creativity.

First we had a good breakfast, then headed for a nearby graveyard, where we had never been before. It was quiet and lovely.

I had bought a bouquet of lilies the previous day, and after I donned my black robes, Diane and I began shooting…

I called this one "Prince of outcasts."

We also took photos that featured the amazing red robes that Kambriel made for me in 2010 (I wore them at Infinitus). They symbolize blood that flows for Love's sake… True love and eternal devotion. I love the way they spilled beneath my new set of black robes (very sturdy, made by Museum Replicas).

All in all, an excellent, productive day! We were quite happy with the result of our work.

If you would like to see more of the photos we took, do visit my livejournal :-)

October has been somewhat of a hectic month for me so far. November and beyond will be dedicated to writing… I want The Severus Snape Paradigm finished a couple of months before Ascendio 2012!
