A Magnetic Pull?

Here’s ta writing related question for you (although, one could argue it’s more reading than writing).

1) Which genre of book do you tend to gravitate towards and why?

Traditions

thanksgivingAfter a minor uh-oh moment with my computer this morning that ended up being an easy fix (thank you, Chris), I’m popping in with another question. This one is about traditions. Youknow, on accountof Thanksgiving being right around the corner…

What is something (or several things) that still stand out in your mind from your childhoodThanksgiving? What did you see as a tradition that you associated with that holiday?

Now that you’re an adult, have you incorporated any of those same traditions int...

The End? Or The End!

open bookI have what I think is an interesting book-related question for you today. It involves your preferences for the way a book (or movie) wraps up.

Do you prefer an ending where everything ties up neatly, or do you prefer an ending that leaves you wondering what happened next? Why?

Style Personified

I thought I’d share a few pictures from the Friends Of the Library Luncheon I spoke at in Avon, CT, on Friday. When I’m asked to be part of something this wonderful, I really have to pinch myself to know it’s true…

Bits

I’m off to give another big talk this afternoon–this one about the books(and authors) who have crossed my path along the way. My trunk is packed with books and stuff and all that’s left to do is the actual talk, itself.

So, of course, it seems out bits & pieces should flirt with talks/speeches.

1) Are you comfortable talking in front of people?

2) When is the last time you heard a really gifted speaker talk?

3) What is your preferred method of communication with someone who lives far away?

4) And...

Setting The Scene

writergirlI love a book that set a place so convincingly, you actually feel as if you’re there. Those writers who can do that so deftly, don’t do it by telling us where we are, but, rather, by showing us. They call our senses into the mix by making us feel, see, smell, hear, and taste the place.

So that’s your challenge today, should you accept.

Here’s mine:

They hurtled through the darkness, their bodies lurching to the left and the right. Screams peppered the air, mostly by way of her own mouth. The win...

A Brief Vent Session

Every once in a while (often, if I’m being honest), I take a look at my youngest and realize she’s sixteen. I mean, how did that happen? It literally seems like yesterday she was sitting on my lap, sucking her thumb, and watching Barney.

Blink.

Time really does fly. And it flies fast. Especially when it comes to anything in life that truly matters.

These days, the schools give so much homework that you feel as if you never have any time with the kids. Heck, some nights, she’s literally doing hom...

Curious

I have some reading-related questions for you today.

1) Do you prefer a familiar setting in the books you read, or do you find yourself more intrigued by a book that is set in a completely new world?

2) Do you tend to read more standalones or series?

3) In those instances where a book has stayed with you after “The End” what does the reason for that tend to be? Characters? Plot?

4) When you’re sitting next to someone who is reading a book (on an airplane, bus, in a waiting room, etc), do you ever...

The Secret Life of an Author

Please give a warm welcome to my friend and fellow author (a.k.a. USA Today and NYT Bestselling author, that is), Lynn Cahoon. Lynn is here today to tell us about her latest mystery, IF THE SHOE KILLS, and togive us a little behind-the-scenes look at an author’s life…

****

What does your favorite author do all day? Sit at a desk, with a stack of pages in front of them, checking word usage in every sentence?

Or do you imagine their fingers flying over the keyboard, chuckling at a scene that’s dev...

Pieces O’ Bits

First up, a quick report to let you know my keynote speaker gig for theCT Library Association’s Support Staff conference went really well! Yay!

Next up, I’m extremely excited to be going on a weekend “writers’ retreat” with a few fellow authors. We’ll spend time networking, plotting, writing, and hanging out. Can’t. Wait.

Now to our bits!

1)In what state were you born?

2) One musician (or band) you’d really like to see in concert one day?

3) Last movie you saw in the theater? Did you like it?

4) Wh...
