Book Look

Today, I have some book questions for you.

1) What’s a book (from your own school experience) that you remember most vividly and why?

2) Do you read more paper books or E-books these days?

3) When you go to a bookstore, what’s the first section you head to?

4) After that first section, where do you go next?

Christmas Bits

I’m not too sure how many of you are back after my hiatus at this point (takes a while for word to spread), but let’s try a holiday themed Bits & Pieces–always my favorite of the week.

1) Best Christmas toy you got as a kid?

2) Biggest disappointment–toy wise–you got as agift?

3) What one dessert/goodie is a must-have for you during the Christmas season?

4) Favorite Christmas movie/song?

I’ll put my answers in the comments at some point today.

Not a Poet and I Know It

I struggled with what to do for today’s writing post, unsure of whether I should yack about my writing journey, field questions, or throw a writing prompt out for those of you who care to take a stab at one. And then I thought of my high school days and how much I loved to write stories…but hated poetry (unusual considering poetry and teen angst tend to go hand in hand).

I’m one of those folks who thinks poetry has to rhyme, like this:

The cat sat on the house,

but wished he had a mouse.

When no...

It’s That Time of Year

It’s no secret, the Christmas season is my favorite time of year. I love the warmth and coziness all the decorations bring to the house, I love baking, I love throwing a dessert party, I love the music, shopping for the perfect new ornament for my family members, and I love all the special “activities” just waiting to be found and enjoyed.

Here’s a peek at my favorites in various categories. I would love to here some of yours, too (maybe it’ll lead to a new tradition for all of us):

My Favorite...

Must Reads

One of my favorite parts of hitting “The End” on my latest manuscript, is the chance to read other people’s stuff again. And while I’ve already moved onto another project already, there are a few books I will read in the weeks ahead even if it means staying up all night.

The first is ONCE UPON A LIE by Maggie Barbieri. Maggie is a very good friend of mine and I absolutely love her writing. I know I’ve mentioned her Murder 101 series many times on this blog over the years (she’s always a go-to...

Getting Back Up To Speed

Since I’ve been on hiatus the past month, I guess the best way to jump back in is to bring you up to speed on all things book-related.

*I just turned in the 4th book in my Amish Mysteries. I’ve pitched SUSPENDERED SENTENCE as the title, but we’ll have to wait and see if the publisher wants to change that (that happens, sometimes, with titles).

*I also just turned in “final pass edits” on the 3rd Amish Mystery: SHUNNED AND DANGEROUS. That book will be out on March 4th and it is available for pre...

Popping In

Popping in to let you all know I’m going to take a hiatus from blogging for a while. I just don’t have much to say at the moment, so I’m going to keep my head down and try to get some much needed writing done.

Check back towards the middle of the month for a status update.

Enjoy the early part of your Fall!!

The Day You Dug

Because I love the way so many of you jump in on these prompts each week, I figured I’d give you an extra good one.

Here’s the set up. You’re digging in your back yard, determined to plant a tree…or start a garden. After a few decent digs, you come across ________________.

What I’d love to see is the opening paragraph to a book with this premise. Write it in first person (which means YOU are the main character). Show us the moment you find whatever THE thing is…and help us to feel your reaction...

Applesauce Muffins Extraordinaire

When my oldest was finishing up first grade, my assistant Girl Scout leader and I took our troop to a cooking school with money they’d earned selling cookies. They tried out a number of fun recipes that day, with one of them finding its way into our arsenal of favorite family foods to this day.

I suppose I thought of this today, simply because of the time of year. Fall is, after all, apple picking season, right?

To that end, I share with you our beloved Apple Sauce Muffin recipe. It’s easy and...
