Bits & Pieces Returns

It’s been a while since we’ve had a Bits & Pieces Friday, so here we go:

1) Who taught you how to ride a bike?

2) What do you remember about your grandfather?

3) Do you have a must-have road trip song?

4) What did you do to get pocket money as a child?

Fun, aren’t they?

What Would You Pen?

Today’s post is simple.

If you were going to write a book, what kind of bookwould it be? Mystery? Romance? Sci-Fi? Autobiography? What?

Crazy, Crazy

It’s been a little crazy around here lately. Some good crazy, some not-so-good crazy, but crazy nonetheless.

*The lower level family room we started gutting in the spring is finally almost done. The walls are painted, the TV cabinet is done and stained, the carpet is down, the couch is in, and even some pictures have found their way onto the shelf that is inset into two of the walls. All that’s left is to pick up the shelf unit, stain it, and add some more personal touches. This project was tru...

Taking The Time

Summer always seems to fly by each year but this year it seemed to go faster than ever. One minute I was getting ready for Dear Daughter # 1′s high school graduationand Dear Daughter # 2′s middle school graduation and the next…

Boom! The oldest is officially off at college and the youngest starts high school today.

Hard to believe, really.

Both milestones have had me blinking back tears (sometimes, not so successfully) a lot as of late, which is why I’m looking for just about anything to keep me...

A Final Summer Hurrah

This morning, DD #2 and I are heading off on a little before-school-starts getaway to Hershey. Originally, the trip was planned as somewhat of a carrot…you know, a get-through-A-by-keeping-your-sights-set-on-B kind of thing. Then, it turned into an all out gotta-go-now getaway that we’re both looking forward to even more than before.

So I guess I’m off line for the rest of the week. I’ll be back to posting on a regular basis on Monday.

Enjoy your last week of summer, everyone!

A Great Read

On account of my rather busy summer, my reading time was rather hit or miss. So it took me even longer to finish Linda Castillo’s latest book–HER LAST BREATH–than I’d hoped.

Then, last week, while on my self-made writing retreat, I found a free hour or so to finish it off and, wow, it was fantastic! The climax scene (or, rather, scenes) wastruly edge-of-your-seat reading with a whole lot of emotional stuff mixed in to the tension. It was really, really good.

Now, I have to wait until next summe...

Picking Up The Pieces

It’s been a little quiet around here lately and I apologize for that. Last week turned out to be a little nutty from a to-do standpoint, and rather emotional from a mom standpoint as Dear Daughter #1 went off to college for the very first time.

There were tears (sometimes lots) all around but we made it to (and through) the big day. At this point, the adjustment seems to be going okay on the college-end, while I’m doing my best to keep a stiff upper lip here on the home front.

To ease myself ba...

The Truth is in the Cookie

I have a wee confession to make. I love fortune cookies.

I’m not sure when the interest began, but I know that for the longest time I didn’t even eat the cookie–I just went straight to the fortune.

These days, I eat the cookie. Some are better than others, but why not, you know? The prize, though, is the fortune. I read my numbers, I read the Chinese translation for whatever word is listed, and then I turn it over and read my fortune. Some have been really awesome and have found a place in my...

The Latest

I’m in what I hope is the final few chapters of a novella I’ve been working on for longer than I wanted to this summer. With traveling and kids and unexpected hiccups, much of the time I’d hoped to devote to a brand new project never really panned out.

So here I am, a mere week or so away from the date I need to start writing my next contracted book and I’m still itching to work on the project-I-wasn’t-able-to-get-to. That’s why I’m taking a few days to concentrate solely on my writing. If all...

Dixie Speaks

Dixie Dunn, the former librarian of the Sweet Briar Public Library,is blogging today on Dru Ann Love’s site. Dixie, of course, is being her usual cantankerous self, but that’s okay…we love her, anyway, right?

So click HERE and see what she’s up to. And if you leave a comment there, you’re entered in a drawing for a chance to win a copy of REMNANTS OF MURDER (in which Dixie is kind of the star). :)
