Bits, Bits, & More Bits

Bits & Pieces time!

1) What one super-power would you like to have for a few days?

2) Favorite stress-reliever?

3) Favorite kitchen/food/cooking smell?

4) If you had thirty minutes to yourself right now, to do as you want, what would you do?

Have a great weekend!

Behind The Scenes?

Okay, so no one ever imagines opening a shop…

:)

So, moving on to today’s post…

I’m working on sewing circle mystery #10 and it’s been a little bit more slow-going than I’d hoped (life has a way of making these deadlines really tough sometimes). I have the plot worked out, and the characters are all cooperating (sounds weird, but truly, they can be ornery during the writing phase at times), but the clear-headed time I need to write? That’s what seems to be lacking right now.

I finished Amish #4 a...

My Shop

While I know owning your own business isn’t an easy road, every once in a while I wonder what it would be like.

Claire, my main character in the Amish Mysteries, owns a specialty gift shop. Most of her inventory is made my the Amish in town, but a few of the items she sells are made by her own hands. She’s there all the time as it is, but what free time she does have can get short at any minute if a problem arises during business owners.

Debbie, one of the secondary characters in my Southern Se...

Engrossed in the Pages

I’m knee-deep in deadline central right now as I write the 10th book in my Southern Sewing Circle Mysteries. As a result, I have absolutely no time to read for my own pleasure.

So I need to live vicariously through you in that regard.

What was the most recent book you finished reading and what did you think?

What are you reading right now (other than this post)? Thoughts so far?

~Elizabeth (a.k.a. Laura)

P.S. On a side note,if any of you would ever like to do a guest post on a book you’ve read tha...

Silver Linings Galore

I spent four and a half hours in the car yesterday doing the post-holiday college kid drop–a little over two hours bringing her to school, and a little over two hours to get myself back home.

The ride there, of course, was filled with conversation and music. The ride back home had music (and candy) and no one to talk to but myself. While I didn’t exactly talk to myself, I did do some thinking about 2013…about all of the new experiences I had that delivered some truly bright spots to my year.

Th...

Birthday Bits

I’m another year older today, and while I’m not entirely sure what I’ll be doing, I imagine chocolate will be involved in one way or another.

:)

Predictable, I know.

For those of you who come around here often, you know Friday is also Bits & Pieces day around here…which gives me fun ways to know more about you.

So here we go:

1) If there was one birthday you could relive all over again, which would it be and why?

2) If you could spend your next birthday anywhere, where would you go?

3) If there was...

I Love Me Some Who

Today’s post is simple (or, maybe, not so simple) and it was kind of birthed on the heels of Tuesday’s post about Dexter.

When I think about the books and TV programs I’ve loved most over the years, one common denominator rears its head again and again…

I love good characters.

I especially love good characters who are revealed to meover time…helping me to understand why they are the way they are/why they react the way they do. I don’t want it force fed to me, I don’t want a one dimensional chara...

Clever Ways To Say, I Care

One of my personal goals for 2014 is to strengthen my closest friendships. And, for the past few days, I’ve been thinking of ways to go about doing that, especially in light of the fact that many of said friends don’t live anywhere near me…

Do I write letters?

Do I send out some cards?

Do I keep my eyes peeled for something that makes me think about a particular person as I go about my days…and then send it to them as a just-because surprise?

If I could, I’d lavish them all with things they need...

Hooked

I know Tuesdays are normally reserved for book chatter around here, but I’m breaking with tradition to talk about a TV show that is written a lot like a book.

On Father’s Day this past year, my youngest got my husband Season 1 of Dexter on DVD. She’d never seen it, nor had I, but I’d heard good things (even though it was a premise I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy) so she gave it a whirl.

Now fast forward from there to just about a week ago and we (as in, hubby and I) finally got a chance to break out th...

On Your Mark, Get Set…

So it’s the first Monday of a brand new year and I’m trying very hard to believe 2014 will be a good year. It started out great with some much-needed time away for hubby and me–the first completely responsibility-free time we’ve had in well over a year.

We caught up on sleep.

We watched a few movies, as well asan entire season of a TV show we discovered rather late yet are now hooked on after just 12 episodes.

We played Battleship (we’re tied one-to-one).

We talked.

We laughed.

We saw a fantastic s...
