Outdoor Workouts: Your Dirtiest Foot Forward

Your dirtiest foot forward.

If your ankles, knees, and hips ache from running on pavement, head for the dirt. Soft trails or graded roads are a lot easier on your joints than the hard stuff. Also, dirt surfaces tend to be uneven, forcing you to slow down a bit and focus on where to put your feet – great for agility and concentration (health24.com). Often when I run, it is usually with my dirtiest foot forward. So wherever you live look for the softer ground that you can run. It’s a lot more motivating getting outdoors in the fresh air. If you live near a beach, challenge yourself with running in sand. It burns the muscles!

Outdoor Workouts: Lunge Ups

Part of staying fit and healthy is working with what you have, you don’t need a gym! “Lunge ups” are one of my favorite work-out moves and you can find different places to do them!

Basically, you start on the ground facing a “bench” (higher surface) with one foot up on the bench-putting yourself in an upright lunge position. Stepping* onto the bench, lift your other knee high keeping your foot parallel with the floor, then drop it back down to the ground. Immediately pop up again with the same leg. Do 3 sets of 20 on each leg (or build up to that) and you will be sure to work up a sweat! This will work your gluteus, thighs and balance! Have fun and push yourself.

* Be sure to check that your knee does not go inward, and hold your core in to stay balanced.

Kids Choice Sports Award: Favorite Comeback Athlete

Bethany says: “I am so excited to have won Favorite Comeback Athlete at Nickelodeon’s first ever Kids Choice Sports Awards. It was awesome to be amongst such incredible athletes, especially those nominated alongside me. The show was really fun with a ton of green slime!!! Thank you sooo much to everyone who voted for me.

“As we go through life all of us have different challenges to overcome. I’m thankful for the gospel of Jesus Christ that reminds me of the full life we can have through Him, and therefore overcome many obstacles to ultimately glorify God. Love y’all!”
