Just Keep Swimming

“Swimming is my favorite exercise late in my pregnancy. It feels so good to get in the water and feel weightless and move my body with complete ease. I’ll always aim to live healthy for me and for my family.”

Swimming is something that I have always loved to do! Throughout my amateur and pro surfing career I have taken swim classes as cross-training to improve my strength, endurance and breath-holding – which are all important for surfing. To this day, I incorporate swimming into my training and fitness routines, and I do it for fun too! I simply LOVE being in the water. Annually, my friends I have done a few 17-mile open ocean swims down Kauai’s Napali. My mom and I will go for swims along the shorebreak and look for shells. And I have gotten into free-diving with Adam to further explore the world under the sea.

Going swimming is a fantastic low-cost and low-impact activity that you can do all throughout your life.

There are so many reasons that swimming is a great way to exercise, including that it:

– can keep your heart rate up while taking some of the impact stress off your body,

– builds endurance,

– tones muscles and builds strength provides an all-over body workout, as nearly all of your muscles are used during swimming.

– is a relaxing and peaceful way to exercise, helping to relieve stress

– can improve flexibility, coordination, balance and posture

The final thing I love about swimming for exercise is that it’s available in so many places – you can swim in pools, lakes, rivers, and oceans. I often swim when I’m traveling- it helps me feel a little closer to home.

So, my encouragement to you today is to do as Dory (from Finding Nemo) advises, “Just Keep Swimming.”

Signature Sunglass Collection With Crush Eyewear‏

Today Crush Eyewear announced the launch of the Bethany Hamilton Signature Sunglass Collection into better retailers nationwide and online (Available in our Shop).

In 2014, Crush Eyewear celebrated the signing of Hamilton to their team and she immediately began working closely with the Crush product design team to create a fun, fashionable collection of sunglasses, designed specifically for women of all ages. Bethany is excited to share this new line with her fans.

Hamilton grew up on Kauai in a surfing family, but was attacked by a 14-foot tiger shark in 2003 and lost her left arm. Rather than letting this destroy a promising career as a professional athlete, Hamilton overcame the situation by becoming a professional surfer, New York Times best selling author, the subject of a major motion picture, Soul Surfer, and a motivational speaker.

Hamilton married Adam Dirks in 2013 and they are expecting their first child in June. She is one of the surf industry’s largest social media personalities with well over 1.5 million dedicated followers.

Creating my very own line of Crush sunglasses was really fun! In the line there is a variety of sunglass designs so you can protect your eyes from the sun while staying stylish!

–Bethany

“We are incredibly excited to work with Bethany Hamilton,” said Sean Sullivan, Crush’s Co-Founder and President. “Bethany exemplifies everything we stand for: a role model for all women, a gifted athlete and a love of life.”

Hamilton’s signature collection contains styles to fit every personality and budget with retail prices ranging from $29.99 – $49.99. Styles range from fashion-forward 6 Base styles to Gradient Polar and Toric lenses. Hamilton’s collection is available at local retailers and online at CrushEyewear.com.

Activated Almond Milk

Activated Almond Milk

(by Adam)

Bethany and I enjoy using almond milk in a variety of ways. It’s great with smoothies, cereal, coffee… basically any way you would use regular milk! We normally buy almond milk from the store, but recently we have ventured into making our own. It’s really simple and healthy for you, especially when you “activate” the almonds first, which is a benefit you don’t find from the store bought almond milk. Activated almonds basically means you soak raw almonds for several hours in water, which brings out the most nutrition. They are high in B vitamins, calcium, potassium, protein, and healthy fats.

Here’s a quick recipe for Activated Almond Milk you can make in 5 minutes in your blender at home! (Note: The link will take you to VidyaCleanse.com)

Partnership with Sticky Bumps continues with 2 Year Contract

Bethany Hamilton has signed on for another two years with the world’s top surf wax, Sticky Bumps. She has been with the surf accessory brand for over a decade, and is joined on the Elite World Team by Zeke Lau, Alessa Quizon, Dave Rastovich, Tatiana Weston-Webb and Guillermo Satt. Bethany has had quite the busy 2014 filming for her full-length feature film, chronicling both her surf travels around the world and personal life out of the ocean. She was also invited as the only female surfer to the Rip Curl Padang Padang in Bali, and won the online video surf competition, Battle for the Breasts. Earlier in the year she released a new book, Body and Soul, and was crowned champion at the 2014 Pipeline Women’s Pro. Bethany and her husband were also finalists in the CBS adventure show, The Amazing Race. She caped the year off with a third place finish at the Women’s Pipe Invitational. 2015 has not been any less eventful, Bethany announced that she and her husband are expecting a baby in June, and filming will continue on Surfs Like a Girl.

I’m excited to stay gripped to my surf board with Sticky Bumps in the continuing years! I love their wax and surf gear; it’s the bomb! Thank you Sticky Bumps!
