I held my card to the reader and walked into the staff area.

And spotted Caden and Allie having what looked like an intense discussion at the end of the hall.

Caden was busy doing his massive overhaul of the hotel’s security. If he had his way, there’d be cameras in every room of the hotel.

He grabbed Allie’s arm, and she snapped something at him. I raised my brows. He yanked her closer.

My breath hitched. It looked like he wanted to strangle her…or kiss her.

Allie pulled back, said something else, then stalked off with a flounce.

What the —? Allie Ford never flounced.

She still called him Broody, and thought he was paranoid, intense, and over-protective.

Caden strode down the hall, his face hard, something working behind his eyes. He spotted me and his stride hitched, then his face smoothed out.

“Everything okay?” I asked.

“Yes.”

“You sure?”

“Yes.”

I waited, but unsurprisingly got nothing else from him. Caden was definitely a man of few words. Fine. I’d interrogate Allie over margaritas.

“Well, don’t look now, but Bell, you’re about to meet your third billionaire,” Kavner said. “Dante, Beauden, you remember Ambrose Langston?”

My gaze switched to the man approaching. Wowser. He was handsome, in a young-Greek-god kind of way. He looked like he’d been born wearing his expensive suit, that showed off his lean body. He had thick, brown hair, dark eyes that shone with sharp intelligence, and just enough scruff to save him from being pretty.

“It’s nice to see you again,” he said in a deep voice. He shook hands with the men. “And please, I go by Ro, and usually imagine punching anyone who calls me Ambrose.”

“Ro, this is Mila and Bell,” Kav introduced us.

Ro Langston inclined his head, then turned to the Roths. “Roth, Monroe.”

“Langston,” Zane said, while Monroe leaned in to kiss Ro’s cheek.

“Ro is a hotel kingpin,” London said. “He and Kav are doing some joint projects together.”

A small smile tipped up the corner of Ro’s lips. “I own Langston Hotels.”

My eyes widened. I’d heard of the luxury chain of hotels and resorts. They had properties all around the world.

“Ro and Kav are planning a big new hotel here in New Orleans. That’s why he’s in town.” The corner of London’s lips quirked. “And why Kav invited him to come and spend lots of money tonight.”

“It’s for an excellent charity,” Mila said.

Ro nodded. “Then I’ll spend big.”

“And I want the rest of his money for our new business venture,” Kav said. “That’s why I’m working with him.”

“And I want yours,” Ro countered.

The men clinked their glasses together and smiled.

“I need to get ready for the fight.” Beau ran a hand down my back. “Mila promised me that she’s saved you a good seat.”

I shivered, excited to watch him.

“Dante and Mila will take care of you.” He dropped a quick kiss to my lips. “See you soon.”

“Good luck.”

It was time for the fight. I followed the Fury brothers and their ladies as we headed for the main part of the distillery.

“May I?” Ambrose Langston offered me his arm.

I assessed him, and decided he was just being polite. Besides, it seemed I liked my men a little more rugged.

I slid my arm through his. “Where are you from, Mr. Langston?”

“Ro, please. Colorado is going to be home for now. I move wherever my work takes me. I just purchased a mountain resort in the Rocky Mountains that I’m planning to overhaul. So, I’m making my base in Denver for now.”

“I guess you’re planning to transform this resort into the jewel in the Langston crown.”

He flashed me a smile that I was certain made many a woman fall at his feet. “Something like that.”

I stared into her dark eyes for a beat. “I guess I’ll need to see it to believe it.”

She gave me one last look, then strode ahead of me, walking confidently, her ponytail swaying.

I shook my head. My gut said that Jessica Ramos would last about as long as our last few recruits.

Before I knew it, she’d be gone.

Blowing out a breath, I fought back my reaction to her. I needed to get my mind off our latest recruit, and onto the monster we had to kill.

“Get us in closer.”

Holding the handgrip overhead, I looked out the open side door of the Talon quadcopter. Its four rotors droned quietly as we flew in over the dense Australian bush.

We were on the edge of the Blue Mountains, just inland of New Sydney.

And we were hunting a monster.

“Jameson, the creature is tracking northeast,” a female voice said in my earpiece. It was our comms officer, Sasha.

“There.” Beside me, Kaitoa Rahia pointed.

Kai was the same height as me, but leaner, and with black hair that he kept cut short. His Māori heritage was stamped all over his face. We often ran together, and the guy was fast. He also had quick instincts that had saved my ass too many times to count.

“I see it.” I studied the flash of movement in the trees below. The thing was crashing through the vegetation. “Sasha, keep tracking it. We’re going in.”

The monster reached a clearing and I got a good view of it. It was like something out of a nightmare. It lumbered on four legs, its slow movements deceptive. It had a thick, scaly hide, and several razor-sharp spikes along its back.

I lifted my carbine and checked the charge on the laser weapon. “Hunter Squad, are you ready for some monster hunting?”

“Hell, yeah,” my squad shouted back.

I met their gazes one by one. Like me, they all wore light-weight, gray combat armor. They were my squad mates, my friends, the people I trusted to always have my back. We’d grown up together in the ruins of a world destroyed by an alien invasion. Our parents had taught us grit, toughness, and determination.

Our parents had beaten the aliens. Now, we were helping to keep the rebuilding world safe from the horrors the aliens had left behind.

Sawyer’s heart skipped a beat. “No. I’ve only known her a week.”

Park lifted a dark brow.

“What the hell do you know about love anyway?” Sawyer said.

“Not a thing, but I have eyes. I can see just fine.”

Sawyer shook his head. “That’s not what’s important right now. There are hitmen on this island who want her dead. That’s not going to happen.”

Park gave him the faintest smile. “Luckily, Hollis has two Ghost Ops soldiers at her back. And she has a pretty mean swing with a frying pan.”

I have lots more action-packed romance planned for 2025. I’m taking a little time off over the holidays, then will be diving back into writing in the new year. I have several new series that are currently brewing and I am SO excited to get started on them.

“So, the great Lorenzo Santoro has fallen.”

Ren glanced at Sawyer beside him. His friend was wearing jeans and a T-shirt, a beer bottle dangling from his fingers.

“Yeah, he has,” Ren said.

“You look happy about it. Once, I remember you telling me there were too many beautiful fish in the sea, and you’d never let yourself get hooked.”

“I was an idiot,” Ren said.

Sawyer cocked his head. “No, you don’t just look happy about it, you look…right.”

“I never expected to fall in love. Or wanted it.”

“You always were stubborn.” Sawyer sipped his beer.

Ren spotted Halle and Tom. They were walking in the gardens. Halle wore a flowing dress, with a hibiscus flower tucked behind her ear.

He’d never be good enough for her, but she was his. No matter what.

Someone called out Halle’s name and Ren looked over. Sammy, Fitz, and Ryan were walking over. Sammy was holding two cocktails with leaves, flowers, and umbrellas sticking out the top.

The three scientists had joined them that morning, eager to be reunited with Halle.

“God, she’s amazing, Sawyer. It’s not just the big stuff. It’s the small stuff too. She just has to smile at me, and the world feels lighter.”

“First Vander got married. Then Boone and Shep fell in love with their women, now you.” Sawyer shook his head. “I hope it’s not catching.”

“Sawyer—” Ren grabbed his friend’s arm. “Don’t cut yourself off from living.”

Sawyer chuckled. “Ren, I’ve got lots of friends here. I’m a part of the community, whether I want to be or not.”

Ren shook his head. “I know how easy it is to be alone in the middle of a crowd. To keep things locked up inside you. To keep protecting yourself.”

There. He saw a dark flash pass through Sawyer’s green eyes before his friend looked back at the ocean.

“I know what happened to you,” Ren said quietly. “You have to remember you survived.”

At that moment, Halle looked up and caught Ren’s gaze. She smiled at him, and he smiled back.

“That’s in the past,” Sawyer said, tone flat.

“Just… If you meet her, the right one, she’ll help you. She’ll pour glue in all the cracks. She’ll make you feel whole again. You just have to let her in. I’m speaking from experience, here.”

Sawyer just grunted.

Ren sipped his drink and watched Halle clink her glass against Sammy’s. He hoped his friend got the message.

Because if he did, good things were waiting for him.

Our other brother, Beauden, sauntered in after him.

Beauden gave me a chin lift.

“You could knock,” I said.

“Why?” Reath sprawled on a couch. “You’re only ever doing paperwork in here.”

Beau leaned against the wall. He was a bruiser, and always had been. He looked like the former mercenary he’d once been. He had the big, heavy muscles of a boxer, a collection of tattoos up his arms, but could be quick on his feet. His face was one step past rugged. His nose had been broken a few times—once by me when we were teenagers at a new foster home, working out dominance. In return, Beau had broken two of my ribs.

I smiled at the old memories. All of us had met as wild, angry, young teenagers. It was the best thing that had ever happened to me.

“How’s the gym?” I asked.

“Good.” Beau nodded. “Busy.”

That was Beau. A man of few words. His dark hair was long and definitely hadn’t seen scissors for a long time. Beau headed for my bourbon and poured a splash.

“It’s Jack. He’s gone on another mission. He didn’t say much, but I got the impression it’s beyond dangerous.”

Reath’s best friend had always been a bit of an adrenaline junkie. He seemed to be getting worse as he got older.

“I wish he’d come work for me.” Reath sighed. “Anyway, he asked me for a favor. His little sister is moving to New Orleans. She’s starting college at Tulane. He wants me to keep an eye on her.” Reath pinched the bridge of his nose. “We’re really busy at PSS right now. Like I don’t have enough of my plate without babysitting a college girl.”

“You’ll handle it, Reath,” I said. “You always do.”

“If you need any help at the office, I can lend a hand,” Beau said. “You know we’re here for you.”

Reath relaxed. “I know. How about a beer?”

“Because it’s not,” Nick growled.

“I love this!” Nola suddenly squealed, clapping her hands. “Oh my God, the two people I love most are going at each other like horny rabbits.” Nola cocked her head. “Beautiful, sexy rabbits.”

Nick stared at her.

“You guys.” She sighed happily, then frowned. “This better be more than a hook up.” She skewered him with a look. “Because Lainie is awesome.” And she pointed at Lainie. “And you need some awesome, big bro. And Lainie, you need a man who isn’t a weak, whiny asshole.”

They both just stared at Nola.
