Take Heart and You Will Be Surprised By Susan Hanniford Crowley
Photo Courtesy by Slava Stupachenko on Unsplash
Take heart! Things will eventually get better. I don’t know about this normal everyone talks about. I think it will be different. I believe some people will be amazed at how much they’ve grown through this experience.
This event on our planet gives all of us the following opportunities:
You may be one of the people on the front lines of the many essential services. Behind your mask, please, smile. Remember that others are counting on you. Smile behind that mask. Consider that you have been given the gift of giving love to others. You shine!
You may be one of those that must stay at home. You are keeping yourself safe for your family and friends. They need you. Keep in touch online or by phone. Write a letter. Send an email. It means a lot to the receiver.
When you are home, you have the opportunity to relax, rest, and recover. You have the opportunity to enjoy yourself through entertainment, help others in activities like mask making, clear your home from clutter, and saying thank you every chance you get. “Thank you” is one of the most beautiful expressions of appreciation that we have on this planet.
Cherish your time on the planet by cherishing others. You don’t have to touch to touch a heart.
Stay safe and believe.

Voices in the Night Paranormal-Scope
Photo Courtesy by Patrick Hendry on Unsplash
Spring is lovely when it’s sunny but think again when night falls. All manner of creature springs to action when the shadows grow.
While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.
The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.
Aries:
The Unseelie Elves are devisious and dangerous. They lurk in shadows. If you venture out, do so in daylight and on familiar paths. Best to stay home, if you can.
Taurus:
Wolves are howling for the hunt. It’s best to guard your ideas and inspiration. Working on a special project in solitude will bear fruit.
Gemini:
Sirens scream. The waters offshore are in turmoil. People are trying their best right now. Listen to others and be understanding.
Cancer:
A ghoul is walking down your street. Put flowers in the window. They really hate that and will leave you alone.
Leo:
The Dullahan, a headless horseman, has been seen racing down the streets. When people argue, it is best not to participate and just avoid them. Arguing can attract unwanted attention.
Virgo:
The Preta eats the dead and disgusting human by-products. Clean all our food carefully. Wear gloves or wash your hands for 20 minutes.
Libra:
A gargoyle looks fierce but actually chases evil away. Don’t judge a book by its cover and that goes for people too.
Scorpio:
Zombies have only partial memories of their past. Dwelling on past hurt doesn’t bring you into a brighter future. Time to let it go.
Sagittarius:
Nalusa Falaya becomes one with shadows. You don’t know one is behind you until it is. Keep home and dear ones close.
Capricorn:
The horrifying skinless Nuckelavee carries disease with it. Be vigilant in cleaning and washing hands and anything you use.
Aquarius:
The Mongolian Death Worm should never be touched. It’s an electrifying experience. Make sure you have batteries for flashlights in case the lights go out.
Pisces:
A vampire has taken a special interest in you, stirring everything evil from your path. You are fortunate to have a hidden friend.

Take A Moment to Breathe By Susan Hanniford Crowley
Song: Sunrise on Lake Pontchartrain
Composer: Alexandre Desplat
I chose this because things are changing again for the world, and we don’t know what the outcome will be. This lake that touches New Orleans has seen a lot of trouble as blue singers will tell you. It is not really a lake, but an estuary that has both fresh and saltwater as it opens into the Gulf of Mexico.
My book, The Stormy Love Life of Laura Cordelais, has several locations but has its base in New Orleans. One of my favorite scenes is when New York Vampire David Hilliard must ask a voodoo mambo for help in finding his kidnapped wife. Marchon is a vampire and an old friend.
*
David pressed the buzzer and quickly said, “Please, I need Mama Joe’s help.”
He heard an audible sigh. “Who are you, Vampire? You are not from the Big Easy.”
“I’m from the Big Apple.”
They heard scuffling behind the door and then the intercom shut off.
Minutes later, the door opened and they walked in. Candle sconces on the purple walls of the foyer provided a dim glow. Glass cases displayed all manner of religious artifacts and items ranging from statues of saints and portraits to boxes labeled as the blood or the bones of the holy. Jars of dried herbs sat in neat rows on the counters. Voodoo dolls were lined up like a chorus line. Next to them were boxes of “Your Own Voodoo Kit.” Gris-gris bags hung from a rack in the corner, and shrunken heads hung from a curtain rod against a window, as if to give them a view.
“The one on the end looks like an old friend of mine,” laughed Marchon.
“Could be. Could be,” said a voice behind them as old as the North Wind. They turned to see three young black girls in faded pink dresses. They were maybe 11 or 12 years old at most. Triplets. One of them stood behind the wheelchair of an old black woman who wore sunglasses and a purple robe covered with amulets. Every talisman and religious symbol hung from a gold chain around her neck. She sat regally in her wheelchair like a queen addressing her court. David felt the woman’s power. Marchon bowed. David did not.
“Hmm,” she half-chuckled. “Come into my parlor, and we’ll talk.”
Marchon looked nervous. David made the first move by following the woman into the next room. It was a pleasant, pale pink room with floral paintings and a large round table with a lace tablecloth. No desk and no skull. Once seated around the table, Mama Joe gave David a long appraising look.
“So, Mr. Hilliard, what can I do for you?”
David narrowed his eyes. He didn’t like the fact she knew his name without introductions. What else did she know? “My wife has been kidnapped, and I want her back.”
Mama Joe laughed. “Don’t you know? Vampires don’t have wives. Why have a wife, when a handsome man like you can have any woman he wants, another vampire for a companion, a human for a pet. Vampires were made to be free of such encumbrances.”
“Nevertheless, I do have a wife, and I need her.” This woman annoyed him.
Mama Joe smirked. “What will you give me, if I help you?”
“Three bottles of human blood,” said Marchon, taking them from the bag.
“No.” David put the whole lot on the table. “Seven in all.”
“Oooh, a man who means business.” Mama Joe nodded thoughtfully, choosing one bottle with its rose emblem to admire before gesturing to one of the girls to put the bottles away. “Denise, bring me the Buru Jar.”
One of the girls handed her a gray jar covered with strange black markings. It had the effect of spiders crawling over the jar when she held it.
“I need a small item from you.” Her sunglasses effectively shielded her eyes as she looked up at David. He didn’t know if she was hiding behind them or using them the way cops do to project authority.
David didn’t believe in voodoo, but no other options had presented themselves. This, at one time, had been Laura’s world. From everything she’d told him, it was a piece of her childhood she wanted to forget. It was pretty far from the Manhattan he knew in a lot of ways.
She held out her hand.
He couldn’t think what to give her.
Her dark, gnarled hands sported bright, glossy red fingernails, which she tapped on the table. “I don’t have an eternity to wait.”
He ripped a white button off near the bottom of his shirt and gave it to her. She put the button into the jar, closed the lid, shook the contents vigorously, and poured them onto the table.
Mama Joe took off her sunglasses revealing luminous blue eyes. Gazing down at the button, bits of bone, shells, and several small crystals and stones, she said, “Brilla took your bride to prevent destruction.”
Then she put her hand over a grouping and continued, “She took her . . . wait, what is this? Your wife is a Cordelais and a Telkhine.” Mama Joe pushed away from the table. “I can’t help you. You were never meant to have a Telkhine. Be quick, girls. Give him back the bottles. I will not owe an obligation to a vampire.”
As the girls put the bottles back on the table, Marchon reached out to take one, but David stopped him. “Whether you will it or not, you do owe an obligation, Mama Joe. You agreed to help.”
Mama Joe fixed an angry stare at David and he returned her glare refusing to back down.
“What is a Telkhine?”
She shook her head and looked back at the small groupings of items on the table. Passing her hand over a small purple snail shell, a blue crystal, and his button, she sighed. “A magnificent creature in human form known for its purity of heart and adventurous spirit. They are the promise from God that man would never again be destroyed by flood.”
“I thought that was a rainbow.”
“That was the sign of the promise.”
“I don’t understand what a Telkhine is.”
She sighed. “A Telkhine is a storm caller. They can create a storm or unwind it. If it’s a storm of their creation, they can unwind it entirely. If not, they can unwind it enough to save a city from destruction. After her return to New Orleans, Juliette Cordelais did that for several years. Since her death, we’ve been unprotected and see what has happened. Laura will be trained to use her powers to protect our city. That is how sacred she is. Now go away, David Hilliard.”
David clenched his fists in frustration and stood up. He wasn’t afraid of this old woman. He didn’t care that the vampires of New Orleans quaked in their boots at the mention of her name. If he chose to threaten her, he had the strength and power to make good on his threat. If he chose to kill her, nothing would stop him. But then he thought of Laura, and her love softened his temper though not his argument. The rage in his body raised his fists, but they fell to the table with open palms. All that mattered to him was Laura.
“No. I won’t leave. Not until you help me.” He sat back in the chair. His trembling fingers raked through his hair and rubbed the young whiskers on his face. That simple act took him out of himself to a Sunday morning when he and Laura were reading the funnies in bed. She caressed his face with her hands and giggled. “You need a shave, or at least decide on growing a beard.” He pretended to be more interested in Prince Valiant, but he really heard her. She leaned over and chewed his ear, and he surrendered to her playfulness.
“Mr. Hilliard, leave my house now.”
Her hard words burst his tender memory. David’s heart was breaking. He could feel Laura moving farther and farther away. “What can I do? Laura calls to me in her dreams. In my entire human and vampire life, I had never fallen in love. I love Laura Cordelais, and I will do anything for her.”
“You did a binding ritual,” accused the mambo.
“I gave her a wedding,” he snapped back fiercely and then sighed. His hands flew up in resignation. “It was my gift to her. I did not bind her to me. Any time she wants to leave, I will let her go. I love her that much. If Laura stays with me, then it’s her choice. It’s out of love. Even now, she calls to me. I would never keep her against her will, but Brilla is, and you know that.”
Everyone stood quietly staring at each other. David felt helpless. He hated feeling helpless. He hated seeing Laura crying, and he hated the silence.
“I know you don’t like vampires, Mama Joe, but where is your justice? Laura is Brilla’s prisoner. Brilla kidnapped her. That’s a crime and whether you help or not, I will go after them and get my wife back.”
“Why, David Hilliard, why do you want your wife back?”
“She is my life.” David looked at his hands on the table and thought, This has all been a waste of time. He was ready to leave.
“Marchon, leave,” demanded Mama Joe.
“Let’s go, David.”
“No. He stays. What I have to say is for him alone.”
Marchon looked at his friend. David nodded and the vampire left. Then the girls left too and closed the door.
“I felt your rage at me, but instead of threatening, you spoke of your love for Laura Cordelais.” She shook her head, as if resigned to her fate. “Love is a miracle that too few know. I see the love you have for Laura, and I cannot deny that. For this reason only, I will help you.” She collected all the little pieces into the jar and after shaking, threw again.
They scattered across the table, and she took several minutes examining each group and individual piece. Looking up at David, she said, “I’m telling you this first. From you, I do not accept the blood in payment. I require more.”
He took a deep breath. “What do you want?”

It’s Snowing Again! What Are You Reading? By Susan Hanniford Crowley
Well, it is April and it’s snowing again. Sigh. I feel a little like I’m in a Charlie Brown cartoon. So what are you reading?
I know this sounds silly but I’m reading two books. One is mine and I’m reading it again to help set up the book that will follow it.
[image error]Night fell with the snow. Vampire Prince Răzvan stood at a crossroads in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. On that cold wintry night in 1938, something unseen spoke to his heart, and he led his companions into the forest. A flash of silver in the dark! A whisper to his heart so soft it ached! Then he saw the gypsy encampment in the deep woods and knew they would take refuge there for the rest of the night. At first, she hid behind the others. But when she peeked out, his heart was lost gazing into the exotic blue eyes of the raven-haired beauty. He felt the excitement rushing through her blood like wine, making her reckless and wild. She should have been afraid of him. His dark visions of the future should have terrified her. Still, she remained spellbound by his gaze and would not turn away. While the others slept, two hearts stood in the snow hidden behind a tree, watched by the stars. But it would not stay night forever.
Amazon Reviewers say: “This is the first book I have read by author Susan Hanniford Crowley, and I loved the world she has created. The vampire Prince Razvan is such a gentleman who falls in love with a raven-haired gypsy beauty Saraina. Their love story is sweet and enchanting. The time period ranges from the second world war up to modern-day. The author writes a compelling story that draws you in and delivers a satisfying conclusion.” “I loved this story and read it in one day because I couldn’t put it down and I recommend it highly. I loved the characters especially Saraina and Razvan. It was a love story for the ages.”
The book is available at https://www.amazon.com/Vampire-Blanket-Stars-Arnhem-Knights-ebook/dp/B07X7SS8TY/
Destiny of the Witch is a different kind of paranormal novel but equally exciting.
[image error]In the thrilling climax of the Rise of Orion series, the stakes are higher than ever before as Ella Masters risks everything to fulfill her destiny.
As the last Welsh witch and soul-shifter, she has battled many enemies, but none as malevolent as the Morrigan. The devious goddess is determined to destroy not only her, but mankind as well. Betrayed by her lover Marcus Drayton, an agent for the security team Orion, and facing impossible odds Ella must find the strength to fight her deadly adversary—alone.
Marcus is desperate to save Ella. In a daring and calculated move, he surrenders himself to the Morrigan to prevent his soulmate from clashing swords with the harbinger of death. But has he underestimated what’s at play? When the seductive goddess, manipulates him—her true agenda in this twisted game is revealed.
With the world a battlefield and the very balance of nature under threat, will Ella and Marcus defeat their foes? Will destiny keep them together or tear them apart?
What Amazon reviewers are saying about the series…”This was a very original story and was very well written. The characters were well detailed and believable. The pace was excellent and didn’t drag on at all. It was very hard to put down. If you enjoy fast-paced paranormal stories that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then this is the series for you! The Rise of the Orion Series is truly outstanding!”
Destiny of the Witch is available at https://www.amazon.com/Destiny-Witch-Rise-Orion-Book-ebook/dp/B085D8KJGG/

If you’re in the snow zone or under quarantine or both, why not cuddle up with good book.
Stay safe and believe.

For The Love Of…Challenging Yourself!
by Artemis Crow
As we continue to shelter-in-place in many cities and towns across the country, you may be aimlessly wandering around your home bereft of things to do. There’s work for those who are able to work from home, but what to do the rest of the time, especially if you’ve finished your to-be-read pile (which I doubt I’ll do in my lifetime), and all your old craft project supplies have expiration dates from back in the 1990’s?
There are scads of things you can do! Really! I found that out this past week as I contemplated by current book covers and decided to make a change. But it would require me learning more about Photoshop than I already knew (which wasn’t extensive and still isn’t extensive while I’m writing this, but it is a bit improved). So I set about scouring the internet for instructions, written and filmed. I wanted more color, and since the series is about the zodiac, I wanted to incorporate the planets and the element for each sign.
[image error] [image error] [image error]
My brilliant cover designer, Derek Murphy, had some features that I loved, especially the layout of the first cover, the fonts and a couple different zodiac wheels, so I used those again to help tie the books together. After much work, and rework, I’m happy to say I have the first six novel covers done and I’m happy enough with them that I plan to change out my current covers for these in the near future. Why do that? As great as the covers are, I’ve had trouble with the printer making the covers too dark, and when I tried lightening the cover image, the contrast became too obvious.
Why am I telling you all of this? Well, first, because I’m proud of the work I did, and second, because I hope my effort at challenging myself will inspire you to find something you want to try while you’re stuck at home, especially those projects you have put off starting.
That bag of knitting supplies sitting forlornly in the back of the closet? Open it up and give it a go! Need instructions? No doubt YouTube has numerous instructional videos, and I bet you can find knitting PDFs all over the internet, too.
Have you always wanted to visit museums like the Louvre? You can find virtual tours of several major museums online! And concerts and tours of castles and gardens, so many organizations that have stepped up to give us wonder through our computer screens and televisions.
How about fitness at home? There too, YouTube has been a great source of inspiration and instruction! Try yoga, or pilates, or weight lifting, or explore trails while on your treadmill. Your gym may have virtual classes…check it out!
Whatever you choose to try, give yourself permission to find wonder in trying something new or exploring a deeper skill. Allow yourself to fail over and over, yet not give up until you’ve mastered that pose or that stitch or that graphic design or have seen the entire Louvre (or as much as is offered virtually).
With all of the fear and despair and grief swamping the country, please take the time to challenge yourself. Because your success will be a triumph, and we certainly need as much positivity as we can get to make it through each day.
So go forth, challenge yourself, and conquer!!!
May your words flow freely,
Artemis

Zombie Bunnies Paranormal-Scope
Photo Courtesy by Hans Eiskonen on Unsplash
This paranormal-scope is dedicated to reader Cera who wanted to see Zombie Bunnies. I tried my best to find a photo and found this one. They smile and look innocent when found alone. You can only find Zombie Bunnies are at night, when they come out to munch on ankles as people try to leave their cars. They can’t get through boots.
While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.
The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.
Aries:
Zombie Bunnies love root vegetables. It’s time to roast some root veggies to add to a down to earth supper. Health is everything right now.
Taurus:
Zombie Bunnies rummage the garbage cans looking for leftover takeout. Relieve your stress with meal planning, order some delicious take-out or delivery.
Gemini:
Zombie Bunnies get creative when they chew out crop circles that can be seen from the air. Indulge your own creativity with painting or writing or reviving an old hobby.
Cancer:
Zombie Bunnies like to clear out the old stuff from the burrows. Go through your home and put the things you no longer like or need in the trash or in a bag to give away after the quarantine.
Leo:
Zombie Bunnies are afraid of the light. Remember when it is very dark in your life, the light will still come.
Virgo:
Zombie Bunnies tend to hop down the same old paths. New ideas are coming to mind. Be sure to jot them down for future fun.
Libra:
Zombie Bunnies hop too much to use the internet. Set some time aside to connect with friends and family through emails or social media.
Scorpio:
Zombie Bunnies have the home project of expanding tunnels. While you might have such plans, evaluate now what you would need, and if it isn’t a matter or rearranging things in some rooms.
Sagittarius:
Zombie Bunnies seize the moment to escape. Even in quarantine, you can escape through tv, video games, internet games/virtual worlds, or music.
Capricorn:
Zombie Bunnies don’t plan. They just do. You have the time to design some plans to expand a home business or get ahead when the quarantine is over.
Aquarius:
Zombie Bunnies don’t really learn. They just hop to the next meal. You have the time to take an online course in something you’ve always wanted to study.
Pisces:
Zombie Bunnies hop along with the other zombie bunnies. In quarantine, you feel out of the loop. It’s old fashioned, but get on the phone and call people you care about.

No Sew Masks for the Coronavirus Pandemic & Music to Relax With By Susan Hanniford Crowley
I know it’s getting tiring staying home and when you have to go out trying to be safe. Buying masks is almost an impossible task. I looked at a lot of “making masks” videos and chose this one from YouTube because it looked easy. I figured if I you needed one, you could make this one. These can be washed whereas the disposable ones are disposable.
One less thing to worry about. There are more complicated ones with filters too on YouTube. You can find patterns for them easily on the web. Here is a pdf that is recommended by my local fabric store, Colchester Mills Fabrics: https://courierpressblogs.com/pdf/howtomakeafacemask.pdf
I can’t sew. I’m lucky I can sew a button or hem a pair of pants and this is by hand. No matter how I’ve tried with sewing machines, I learned how to make knots.
A long time ago when I was going through a lot of medical tests, I had to have MRIs. Now I get nauseated and very sick in those machines. I can only remain in the MRI and have a successful test if I can see out and hear a piece of music that masks the machine sound. A dear friend gave me a CD by harpist Hilary Stagg. I’m am happy that I found it on YouTube and can share it with you. It is called “Forever” from the album Edge of Forever. Hilary Stagg’s beautiful soothing music made it possible for me to complete MRIs.
I am hoping in this stressful time, you can play this and just let go for a little while. Close your eyes and think of everything you hold dear. Feel the sunshine of love on your face. Let the surf touch your toes as you walk on the beach.
Stay safe and believe.

The Bright Side
I have to apologize as I’ve been in and out a few weeks as we’ve all gotten used to this surreal reality of late. You can’t turn on the television or open up an internet page without being bombarded by negativity these days. And with good reason—I’m not denying that we are in a very difficult situation these days. And on top of that (if that wasn’t reason enough), we aren’t sure when the Coronavirus health crisis will get under control so it is really hard to see that light at the end of the tunnel.
I know I’m not telling anyone anything new here and I won’t keep on harping on this to add to that negativity. No, instead I am going to go the opposite direction and lean on the good (big surprise right?!). But seriously, I know it is hard. I feel blessed I still have a day job but my husband and I have definitely had the conversation about how long he will have a day job as his job is dependent on getting back to some degree of normal. We have talked about how many months we could get by and where we would need to start cutting back. And while I don’t want working from home to last forever, I am trying to see the positives—liking a non-existent commute time and healthier dinners because I actually have time to cook. I’m teaching my kindergartener to ride a bike this week and watching his progress is oh so much fun.
Outside of our home, the world is getting a break from some pollution, families seems to be spending time together riding bikes or walking or speaking via some virtual application. This doesn’t negate all the hardship out there and I’m not denying the weighting on that side of the scale, but it does open our eyes to a reality that isn’t 100% negative. And for those of us who are fortunate to have these blessings, I also believe it is important to pass them on. Go out for takeout if you can and support your local restaurants. Order some books or movies online (I even some virtual tours of world museums available). And be there as an ear to listen when others are having a tough time of it. More important than ever during this time of isolation, is our unity and willingness to help eachother.
Have a safe week and happy writing!

Spring Cannot Be Denied Paranormal-Scope
[image error]

No matter how much we may hurt inside. Spring has arrived in many places to soothe our hearts in these awful times. Cherry blossoms are blooming in Japan and have already bloomed in Washington D.C. Wear a mask and gloves. Stay distant from others. Wash your hands, and please, stay home if you can. Believe you can do this.
While you’re staying safe at home, it’s fun to let the mind escape. Visit my author page on Amazon to see all my books. https://www.amazon.com/Susan-Hanniford-Crowley/e/B004YXOGXG/
While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.
The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.
Aries:
Elves are cleaning out the clutter from their home. Why not do the same!
Taurus:
Unicorns are observing humans washing everything and their hands. The unicorns dance.
Gemini:
Aslan walks the land again to give hope. Don’t watch the news constantly it will hurt your energy and sleep. Live a hopeful life.
Cancer:
The enchanted pug is walking down the street. Luck is coming your way.
Leo:
Faeries are straightening the pebbles in their path. You may have obstacles now, but let this time be used to develop a strategy to clear the way.
Virgo:
Elves use the alone time to go over records both financial and family histories. Use your time as wisely as an elf.
Libra:
Then there are those elves who are baking cookies, freezing them, and baking more. Do you enjoy baking? This may be the time to start.
Scorpio:
Mermaids are singing. Time to relax, put on the earbuds, or headphones and enjoy music.
Sagittarius:
Bees understand harmony. Try to get over misunderstandings with those closest to you. Harmony in a household helps everyone. If you are alone, reach out by phone to a friend or relative.
Capricorn:
Dolphins are leaping. Their energy is similar to yours. You are building momentum towards your goals.
Aquarius:
The ghosts of your past float down your street. Don’t open your door. It isn’t necessary. Let the past be behind you.
Pisces:
Dragons understand planetary cycles. Sometimes you just have to set out the bad times in your cave, so make your home as comfortable as you can.
