A Summer Treat: Olde Mystic Village Shops By Susan Hanniford Crowley

For The Love Of…Aries On Fire Excerpt by Artemis Crow
Elita waited a beat then jumped up and ran into the kitchen, rifling through the drawers until she found a small plastic box with various sizes of flathead screwdrivers. She grabbed the box and opened it, her hands shaking so hard she dropped it. “Damn it.”
She bent over rifling through the sizes until she found a pair that looked like the right sizes. Starting with the smallest one, she slipped the end into the locking mechanism of the iron band around her neck. If she got this one off first, she could cast a spell that would unlock the bands around her wrists and ankles.
The tip slipped.
She tried to reinsert it but in her haste she kept missing. She trotted to the microwave and bent down to look in the reflection.
Something heavy hit her in the back of the head. Her forehead slammed into the front of the appliance and bounced back. Her neck twinged and her eyes crossed. She dropped the screwdriver and staggered across the kitchen, finally grabbing the counter so she didn’t fall to the floor.
She lifted her head and saw Nokomis staring daggers, or maybe it was screwdrivers, Elita couldn’t tell from the distance. No matter, the Kellas Cat Outbreeder had a helluva arm. Elita touched her forehead and winced when she felt the already rising knot.
“Was that necessary?”
“You were trying to escape your iron band,” Nokomis answered, her chin raised. “That makes you a threat to those I love, which makes you my enemy.” She snapped her fingers and a massive tiger strolled into the great room.
Nokomis crossed to the kitchen with the tiger and pointed at Elita. “Enemy.”
With one word, the tiger’s relaxed posture and kind eyes shifted. His body tensed, his eyes narrowed, boring into Elita as if memorizing her face. He sniffed the air as if imprinting her scent, labeling her an enemy.
“I suggest you resign yourself to being our ‘guest’ for as long as we deem it necessary. If you try to run, I’ve painted a target on your back.” She stepped in front of the cat. “He will kill you with my blessing.”
Elita heaved a sigh and held up her hands. “Fine, I got it.”
Nokomis jerked her head toward the great room and the tiger padded to the fireplace. He plopped down in front of it and started grooming, the entire moment forgotten.
Not that Elita had forgotten or could; this put a huge kink in her plan to run. The last thing she needed was a tiger sicced on her. She walked around the island, pulled out a chair and plopped just as the tiger had done, only she didn’t start grooming. No, she dropped her head into her hands instead. There was nothing for it; she was stuck here until fortune smiled on her or sense was knocked into the Zodiacs which she didn’t see happening anytime soon. It hadn’t happened in five months, so….

Confusing Feelings, Okay?
Why are feelings so confusing? This week has been one of those doozy weeks. You know, the ones that leave you wanting to watch or read mindless rubbish because your brain can’t take anymore. This week, I did spend some time watching some of this and one of the characters really stuck in my mind because she never said what she really felt and she always said what wasn’t real. In actuality, she was simply confused and trying to sort out her emotions. It was simple recognition that feelings can be complicated.
The character and the movie resonated because it is not uncommon for us all to find ourselves confused sometimes. Each day, we are bombarded by experiences, decisions to make, questions to answer and it can all be overwhelming to say the least. So it takes a bit more time to sort out our feelings, that’s okay! Revel in it and enjoy the process. You might discover more about yourself along the way.

A Summer Treat: The Movie Jurassic World Dominion By Susan Hanniford Crowley
I haven’t been in a movie theater since pre-coronavirus! So I was a little apprehensive. My husband really wanted to see this movie.
We went to an 11:15 AM showing which meant there were probably 10 people spread out over the theater.
Now for the show!
Being a dinosaur lover, my husband was comparing this movie to the others in the Jurassic franchise as well as others he’s seen. The verdict? ***** (5 stars)
Jurassic World Dominion does have a PG-13 rating, there are some language, intense moments, and definite violence. I would caution parents of small children.
What do I think? 5 stars from me too. I loved seeing Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill together in this action-packed exciting adventure. The intensity and sense of wonder reminded me of the very first Jurassic Park. It has that spellbound quality. Every actor gives their all. Every dinosaur holds us in rapture.
Two actors really shined by giving better than best performances: DeWanda Wise and Bryce Dallas Howard.
For me, it was excitement, adventure, dinosaurs eating humans, humans being horrible, adventure, a mom being super courageous in amazing ways, fighting for what is right, fighting to be alive. Then there are lots and I mean LOTS of dinosaurs.
I won’t say more. I don’t give spoilers.
A long time ago, I was a movie reviewer. I never took the intellectual way to analyze or the sarcastic way to criticize. I rate my movies by their ability to enchant, invite us into their world, and make us scream or cry or get angry along with the characters. If a movie does that for me it wins. If we sit through the ending credits wishing there was more, it wins big. (We did.)

Just Another Day
Change is not always a bad thing. Today is my first day back in the office and even today is just a tryout for the real deal. Despite this, I can’t help but feel super nervous about going into an office and seeing all my coworkers.
But why am I nervous? It is not as if I have not interacted virtually with my coworkers during this entire time. We even met up for a team event once during the last couple years. Additionally, I’ve been out and about, I have not been a hermit this entire time. Still the nerves are there, and in my mind, that’s OK.
Although we may like to believe it, most of us are not invincible. We do have feelings, weaknesses and tons of doubts. That is OK too, it’s all a part of us. And deep down although I still feel nervous about they day at work, I also know that everything is going to be just fine. This is just another day that makes me stronger for tomorrow.

Life Tools for Everyone! Experience Childlike Wonder By Susan Hanniford Crowley
Thomas the Train visited Essex, CT 2022Today I had a very important date with my grandchildren to ride and visit the famous Thomas the Train. He was in Connecticut for two weekends and today was his last day for a visit before he went on to other places. He was at the Essex Steam Train & Riverboat, but now he’s moving on. It was a day of carnival food and rides, riding the famous train that talks and sings, taking photos, getting balloon animals, and other fun activities. Most of all it was a day of family connections and seeing life through a child’s eyes, experiencing childlike wonder.
The Life Tool for Today:
Everyone! Go and do something children would enjoy. Visit a train! Go to the circus! Watch cartoons!
I remember when I used to watch Popeye the Sailor. I laughed so hard when he ended up on this deserted island and found the strange animal with magic powers he name Jeep! Imagine experiencing something new and wondrous for the first time (again). Eat ice cream or popcorn.
I remember when one of my daughters couldn’t write well enough yet to write her letter to Santa asking for things. Instead, she cut out pictures of the items she hoped to get and put that in the middle of the letter.
For a few hours, turn the clock back and experience an afternoon of childlike fun.
Now for the writers out there, here’s a Writing Tool.
Choose an age when you were a child. Do a ‘dear diary’ where you talk about a fun thing that happened. Maybe it was making a friend. Or the day you got a pet. It doesn’t have to be a special day. Choose any day and remember what you wore, were doing and saying, how the air smelled, how the weather made you feel, and what you ate. There’s more.
Once you get into it, write out your diary entry from the seven-year-old you, for example.
It will be eye-opening, May it inspire your writing and your life.

For The Love Of…What? by Artemis Crow
Today is “Yell “Fudge” at the Cobras in North America Day”. Yep, you heard me. What you didn’t hear is me saying, “What the whatity-what-what?” So let’s find out what this day means.
I did a search for that name and found articles describing this, well let’s just say unique day of observation. First up is a snippet from a Daily Beast article by Sara Reistad-Long. In it she writes, “Since the early 1990s, this day has encouraged participants to chase away cobras with allusions to fudge, which is believed to make them gag. Each year, Chase’s Calendar receives numerous letters confirming the effectiveness of this technique (no cobras were sighted following a yelling episode).”
Okay, so cobras aren’t a fan of chocolate. Most definitely bizarre and a revulsion I don’t share…meaning, send me fudge! How about a little more explanation?
Here’s more from the nonstopcelebrations.com page: “It’s another light-hearted day from Tom and Ruth Roy of Wellcat. The couple has contributed dozens of holidays to Chase’s Calendar of Events. Many are animal related. Most are silly. They’re intended to make you smile. To brighten your day. To encourage you to take yourself and life a little less seriously. Because who on earth can be serious while yelling fudge out their front door … To keep cobras away!?
The article then moves onto this age-old question: Are There Cobras in North America? “There are no true cobras in North America (so yelling “fudge” must work!). But there is a relative of the cobra, the eastern coral snake. This snake’s scientific name is Micrurus fulvius, and it’s a member of the same species (Elapidae) as the true cobras. The coral snake lives in the southeastern United States. It’s also found in parts of Cuba. Apparently the coral snake isn’t disgusted by fudge.” (Yes, I’m borrowing heavily from this article, but I couldn’t leave you hanging.)
So how do you celebrate “Yell “Fudge” at the Cobras in North America Day?” According to the day’s official page, you’re supposed to go outside at noon local time and yell “fudge.” With four different time zones, there will be a wave of people yelling fudge across the U.S., from east to west.
Of course, “wave” is probably an overstatement. We’ve never seen anyone celebrate this day this way (or any way). And we’re skeptical of how many do. But feel free! We doubt we could do it with a straight face. We can’t help thinking, though, if cobras hate fudge so much, wouldn’t actual fudge do more to keep them away? So we’re thinking that eating fudge could be another way to go.
Or make some fudge. Dig out your favorite recipe, or try one of these:
Chocolate Fudge, from Alton Brown. Alton’s recipes are usually fantastic!Easy Fudge Recipe. This basic recipe includes the option of adding walnuts or crushed peppermints, so you can easily change up your fudge flavor.Penuche Fudge. No chocolate in this one.Candy-Licious Fudge. Yum.”
Checkiday.com offers a slightly different variation on the celebration way to celebrate—directional yelling. Go outside at noon on June 2nd, face south, and yell “Fudge!” The cobras hear you yell, smell fudge, and off they go.
There you go, you have your fudge marching orders for today! I hope you’ve had a giggle and feel free to indulge your cravings for sweet, thick, yummy, cobra-repellent! Fudgers, assemble!!!

British Isles Paranormals Paranormal-Scope
During the Victorian Age, it was the fashion to tell stories about ghosts and other strange creatures. So tonight my lovelies, in honor of a Queen’s Jubilee, sit back but keep the lights on as we explore the paranormal creatures of the British Isles.

Knockers are not bad guys. They are spirits that knock on the walls of caves to warn of a coming collapse. Listening to others may change the way you do things this week.

Those that see the Fed Fellen’s yellow teeth, hair, and eyes soon die. That’s the way the legend goes. Of course, you don’t believe everything you read. Do you?

The Loch Oich Monster is related to Nessie but is camera shy. It has a shaggy dog-like face. Go out and enjoy nature in your favorite way.
Pisces:
The Stray Sod has a grassy back. Be sure not to step on it as to do so is to lose your way. Considering a trip. Take maps and guidebooks with you too.
