Book Boyfriends Doing Battle. By Ripley Proserpina
Last year about this time, I took part in a book boyfriend bracketed tournament. It was the March madness of imaginary guys. My favorite book characters went head-to-head. Ash vs. Puck from Julie Kagawa’s Iron Fey. Wolf from the Lunar Chronicles vs. Levi from Fangirl. It was so much fun watching each character advance to the finals until a winner was chosen.
This year, for that same book boyfriend battle, Nora’s boys, from Finding Honor, were nominated for battle in the New Adult category! Having voted in the past, I may have gone a little over-the-top in my excitement —called my mom, called my husband… Called the dog. (Called the cats, but they didn’t care). Then I learned RM Walker, the British author I interviewed two weeks ago, was also nominated for the Young Adult category for her boys in Lily!
May is the month of battle, and Nora’s guys are going to be spending April working out, and doing planks or burpees or whatever it is that makes people healthy. Stay tuned for more information, but April, with the warmer weather and sunshine, is a great time to sit outside with a new book— and maybe watch those guys exercise.
Happy Spring! ~ Ripley
Finding Honor is available on Amazon, iBooks, Kobo, and Nook.

Food and Vampires and A Special Link
[image error]I read a lot of vampire books – fiction, folklore, case studies, and obscure documents. There is a lot of differences regarding food. In one book, I saw a vampire nibble toast around the edges. Most just drink blood. Some can have animal blood, while others can only have human blood while the human is alive. Some can drink from the recently dead while others will not. So you’re probably asking what that photo is about.
My books are different. Any vampire who is over 100 years can eat human food in addition to blood. However, they have certain food ingredients to avoid. In my book, Vampire Princess of New York, Noblesse and a possible future husband has a Vampire Special Pizza from time to time. Actually she craves it. That is my home cooked version of a Vampire Special Pizza. This particular one is with mozzarella and mushrooms and of course, no garlic. Since I’m not a cook, I enlisted the help of my daughter Cera.
For details on how we made a Vampire Special Pizza and what’s in it. See today’s article by me on the Soul Mate Publishing Authors blog.

A Writer’s April Fool’s Day by Stacy Hoff
April Fool’s Day is day for pranksters. I wonder, by taking a short break from my writing, am I playing a joke on myself? Keeping up my fast pace of turning out books has been both thrilling, as well as a hard challenge. Since I just enjoyed my fifth release, BETTING ON LOVE IN VEGAS (book 1 of my new BUILDING LOVE series) I thought I’d take a few days off for myself.
Rewarding myself with free time is difficult because I also want to keep up my publication pace. It’s a tricky balance. Time off gives me breathing room to recharge my creative batteries. But too much time off can throw off my writing schedule. Book 2 of the BUILDING LOVE series comes out this October, and book 3 has yet to be written. I’ve got deadlines to keep up. Oy!
Will playing a little hooky make me an April fool? I hope not to find out. I’m trying to persuade myself to get back into the saddle before my entire writing schedule falls off the wagon.
What do you do to keep motivated, and stay that way?
Book blurb for BETTING ON LOVE IN VEGAS (Book 1 of the BUILDING LOVE series)
Catherine “Cat” Warner has problems. The profits from her inns are down. The pressure from her parents is up. Her love life is non-existent. But Cat did manage to get the attention of tough, powerful, gorgeous hotel magnate Ty Orland. Unfortunately, his interest in her is for all the wrong reasons. Instead of wanting Cat, this debonair CEO only wants her land—a parcel he desperately needs for his next big development deal. Too bad, it’s not for sale. A people pleaser by nature, Cat knows to stand strong. If she caves in to the demands of this sexy, alluring man, it will be her own neck on the line.
Ty Orland has a lot of things going for him. Success. Power. Respect. Unfortunately, he’s also got an old chip on his shoulder and a new financial nightmare. His development deal is going down in flames—and fast. His only way out is if Cat sells him her strategically located parcel. But romancing the land from her is not easy when love gets in the way. The woman is as beautiful as she is beguiling. And Ty no longer knows which prize is more valuable.

Your Past is Not Your Future
I work in the financial services industry and at least several times a week we are telling clients that past performance is not necessarily a predictor of future performance. This is absolutely true and it goes for so much more than market predictions. This is even more apparent in dealing with an administration with which it is very hard to predict almost anything.
Politics aside, I feel that we can learn a lot from the past and while it may not predict the future we can use it to guide our actions in the future. As a 17-year-old teenager, I want hydroplaned on a big freeway outside of Washington DC. Miracle of miracles I did not hit another car during a pretty packed rush hour. But I did learn that when a car begins to hydroplane it is best not to hit the brakes and to remain calm. This same learning process happens as we write and honestly, with pretty much everything in life.
I combed through manuscripts I wrote perhaps years ago and at the time I was so immersed in my work I couldn’t see the flaws. Looking back over time, I’ve grown and learned how to increase the depth of my characters and add micro tension on each page. Admittedly, it is a work in progress that will continue forever, but what is the fun if there is no challenge? How boring would it be if we never made mistakes and never continue to learn? I want to grow as a person, as a writer, as a mother andas a wife. And most folks I meet want to do the same in someway or another.
My advice? Be open to miss state and while your past should not predict your future, use your past to improve your future.
Happy writing this week!

Audio Coming Soon! by Mandy Rosko
So even though this month the Audiobook version of Bad Boy Bear Volume 1 got off to a slightly late start, I’ve been told that the file should be ready by the end of the month.
Taking into account the brief delay, I’m thinking that in early to mid April, it should be ready for it’s first listen, and to be uploaded to various online stores.
And I’m majorly excited for that

On the Edge of Spring Paranormal-Scope
Beware the bunnies and don’t trip on the eggs. Spring can be hazardous.
While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.
The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.
The week for:
Aries:
Pixies run amok in the spring getting a lot of half projects done. Focus is needed to take the next step. Finish those projects.
Taurus:
Elves take time for self-reflection. Enjoy life more by taking time to get to know you. Put the past behind you and look forward.
Gemini:
Gnomes like hobbies. Indulge in a hobby. Find a club to learn more about it and meet new people.
Cancer:
Vampires are great dressers. Time to examine your wardrobe. Get rid of the worn or not fashionable and add some standout items.
Leo:
Faeries cherish their elders. Spend time with someone you look up. Brighten someone else’s life with your smile!
Virgo:
When werewolves are at a crossroads, they send out scouting parties to bring back reports. Investigate before making life changing decisions.
Libra:
Goblins do more than count money. They know when to save. Take a hint!
Scorpio:
Shapeshifters are very health conscious. It’s time to evaluate. Is your exercise working for you? Always confer with your doctor.
Sagittarius:
Mermaids are very creative. They are known for the amazing castles they leave on the sand. Explore your creative side. Make it fun.
Capricorn:
Orcs stumble around making a mess because they are rough and tumble and don’t explain things well. Take special care with your words at work. Try not to incite any orcs.
Aquarius:
Werebunnies are everywhere. The good news is that they can be bribed with smiles and carrots. Smile a lot this week and eat healthy.
Pisces:
Griffons are all about respect. You have earned the respect of someone whose opinion matters to you! YAY, YOU! It’s your week to shine.

That Time I Dressed Up As Princess Leia… By Ripley Proserpina
That Time I Dressed Up as Princess Leia because My BF Loved Star Wars…
… Not really. But what do you think of grand gestures? Jealousy-inducing? Creepy? Naive? One of my favorite things about fiction is the way a grand gesture always works out. The boy standing in the dark, holding the boombox (remember those?) over his head outside the girl’s window, wins her back. Generally, the grand gesture is so heartfelt, so genuine, it doesn’t come across as stalkerish. Stubborn, yes. Illegal? No.
In Finding Valor, my recently released book, one character, Matisse, goes for broke with his grand gesture after a huge foot-in-mouth instance.
Here’s his moment.
“Cher, forgive me.” Matisse clung to a thick tree limb sticking out over the lawn. He was close enough Nora could see his expression but far enough away he wouldn’t be able to come into her room.
“I do. Now get down from there!” Worriedly, she calculated the fall from their height. “You’ll kill yourself! Ryan!”
“What?” He stuck his head out. “Son of a bitch. Really, Tisse?”
“Shut up, Valore. Nora. It doesn’t matter what happens to me if you don’t forgive me. I can’t live with you being angry with me.”
“Are you serious right now?” Her voice came out shrill. “You’re being crazy!”
“Nora.” Reaching behind him, he pulled out his phone and, one-handed, thumbed across the screen. His face was bathed in blue light, but all she saw was how he wobbled from side to side and held himself on the branch with one hand.
“Matisse, I swear to God…”
“I found this song.” Something in French played from his phone. “It made me think of you.”
“Matisse,” Ryan groaned.
“I said, shut up. Listen to the words, Nora.”
Dropping her head to the frame, her forehead pounded against the wood. All she could hear was her blood whooshing in her ears. Fear for Matisse overshadowing everything else.
“Apollo!” Pushing away from the window, Ryan left the room. “Get the ladder!” he yelled when he got to the hall.
“Matisse…” Raising her head, she pinned him with her eyes. “What are you doing?”
Moonlight struck his face; his pale skin was white and his dark eyes black. His lips trembled, and she saw how his hand shook. This wasn’t some adolescent gesture he believed he had to make in order to impress her. His upset was real.
So real, he’d decided the only way to make her listen was to climb the tree outside her window.
Finding Valor is available for purchase.

My Sexy Saturday Love Who Makes My Heart Hop: The Stormy Love Life of Laura Cordelais by Susan Hanniford Crowley
I like to participate in the My Sexy Saturday Blog Hop. This week we are all talking about that sexy love that really gets the heart pounding, the guy who turns your head when he walks in the room and everyone else seems to disappear.
I considered the charms of all my heroes and their charms are many, but I narrowed this down to King Max or his son David. In many of my books, David Hilliard is a secondary or support character. He’s always there to be supportive, encouraging, or adding fun. In The Stormy Love Life of Laura Cordelais, he’s the hero and one hell of a man. You’ll see!
Love doesn’t always come easy, even when you find that one person who has your heart. When Laura meets a unicorn, she is offered the chance to become mortal again. David tells her the truth how unicorns hate vampires but they do have the power to make them mortal again. Then he releases her to make up her own mind. Because he loves her.
The scene with the unicorn is unique, and you’ll have to read the book to see what happens. It’s not what you would expect. This event is early in their relationship. I’ll give you a glimpse into the choice Laura made that is only a beginning to their larger love story, when she returns to David and asks him to dance.
*
His lips brushed hers. “I ache for you.”
The warmth glowed between them, increasing with each fervent touch. An electric current drew them together, and the fire eternal they created as their bodies rubbed against each other, teased, tantalized, and blazed white hot. It was a long while before he noticed that she had something in her hand.
“What’s that?”
“Thomas tried to force me to choose a mortal life. I found him unworthy.” She tossed the unicorn’s horn on the floor.
David smiled and kissed her hand. They twirled around to the music inside them. The storm outside sang. Laura never knew the beauty of the gale until that moment, as it whistled and howled around their sanctuary from the living. David led her into bed. Like children they laughed and pulled the blanket up over their heads.
“I knew you would remember that I love you.”
“You are my shining light in the storm,” she whispered in his ear.
*
If you can’t wait to find out what happens next, The Stormy Love Life of Laura Cordelais is available in Kindle and Print and Barnes and Noble Print

Release Week Recovery by Stacy Hoff
Whew! I’ve had so much going on. This past Wednesday (3/22/17) was release day for BETTING ON LOVE IN VEGAS, book 1 of my BUILDING LOVE series. I’m been doing enough promo to turn me into a babbling, drooling, fool. It’ll be good for me to get back to writing. Finally!
But before I get back into the writing grind, maybe I’ll bask in the moment a little longer. It’s not everyday I have a novel born. BETTING LOVE IN VEGAS is my fifth release, but no less special than my first.
Still, there is no rest for the weary/crazy/excited. I’ve got two more books underway. Book 2 of my series is already written and awaiting editing from my publisher. It will be released this October. Book 3 is underway (although I’ve got a lot more to write.)
Like I said, whew!
Release week is a giddy adventure. A little intimidating, too. I think a few days of sitting back and resting up might be in order.
What do you do to enjoy, and unwind?

Never Enough Time
As we know it, time is finite. Yet many of us live life as if it is infinite-preoccupied mainly with the things that appear to be important but maybe aren’t as important as we make them out to be.
Why do we do this? We all have our reasons, but even more, it in our nature to live for today. History gives us so many examples of this as we revisit where we’ve come from and our focus on survival. Our prehistoric ancestors probably didn’t sit around discussing their retirement. Over time, we become more advanced as a society, leading to longer life expectancies and less of a need to think simply about today. Hence the ease of thinking time just goes on.
This past week, family came to visit and while time dragged on, it also flew by too fast. I returned to work after a few days and found myself exhausted and at a loss to understand where time to catch up and time to make progress went. In a way it seemed as if the world around me sped up as I stayed on pause. I might have gone on thinking this if those around me weren’t spinning as much as I.
There is never enough time and there will never be enough time for most of us. My one piece of advice I will give and aim to follow, is to make time for who and what counts.
Happy writing this week!
