The World Around Us

I went to a coffee shop this weekend and had the feeling I’d been warped back into time. I’m very fond of coffee shops, I used to work as a barista and a baker in one back in college. And I’m not talking Starbuck’s although I’m very fond of Starbuck’s as well. I’m talking those good old-fashioned eclectic sort of coffee shops that serve interesting eats and where folks come to park with their laptops for the entire day.

The reason I’m bringing this up is because coffee shops tend to bring out the most interesting sides of people and they allow you to catch all types of conversations. They attract all sorts of people for all different types of reasons. This past weekend, the conversation I found most interesting was on how most Americans are clueless to all the craziness that goes on around them. And while I agree that we can all continue to learn and grow in more areas than I can mention, I do believe that most folks are simply trying to live versus remain ignorant.

Okay, so I’m going to go all philosophical now, but I truly believe life is too short. Do I think we should take better care of our earth, our fellow man and our own lives? Yes, but this means something different to each and every one of us and at the end of the day, we can each only digest so much information and so many recommendations. Should we exercise? Yes. Should we eat right? Yes. Should we save more and spend less? In most cases, yes. These three things are hard enough let along taking care of our families and friends and being a better citizen.

So my thoughts on this conversation I overheard and the many that will come after it? I do believe that most humans mean well and that if we take the time to educate and influence each other, we would see change versus criticizing our fellow man for not having made the changes prior. We are all busy striving to survive and sometimes, we just need a little help opening our eyes to the people and the world around us.

Happy writing this week!

This is Ground Control to Rebecca Royce. By Ripley Proserpina

April 11th the fourth book in Rebecca Royce’s Wings of Artemis series releases, and I have been waiting and waiting for this.

Wings of Artemis is a sci-fi romance that takes place in space. Earth is a bit messed up because— you know— humans, so we’ve taken to the galaxy. The first books chronicle the life of Melissa Alexander, a badass rebel. Reclaiming their Love, the book I’m currently bouncing up and down with anticipation for, is about her daughter, Diana Mallory (then there’s this fantastic off-shoot about Diana’s best friend Paloma, but I digress). Reclaiming Their Love is the second and final book about Diana’s life and loves.

And what a love life it is. Wings of Artemis is a reverse harem series, which means Diana falls in love more than one guy, and they with her. Remember where I talked about humans messing up earth? Well, we managed to swing the population in favor of the dudes. There aren’t enough ladies to go around, and so we have a conundrum (or reverse harem). There’s nothing swarmy or creepy about the way this works out for Diana. Her guys are best friends, sent by one of the massive corporations who run the galaxy to an ice planet for years. When our girl literally crashes there, they meet and all sorts of adventures ensure.

To say I’ve been waiting with baited breath for this book is putting it mildly. Diana’s first book, Crashing Into Destiny ended with, hands down, one of the most exciting scenes I ever read, and took me a loaf of bread and a jar of nutella in order to self-soothe.

I don’t know where science fiction romance has been all my life, but now that I’ve discovered Wings of Artemis, I know where I’ll be from now on.

Reclaiming Their Love is available here:)

Sexy Stud Saturday Blog Hop & Excerpt from Mrs. Bright’s Tea Room

From time to time, I write books other than vampire adventure romance. Since I’ve spoken about King Max of Vampire King of New York before, I decided to talk about Mrs. Bright’s Tea Room, an infamous lavender dirigible/brothel that flies over Alternate History Victorian London. Captain Travers who arrives early for his meeting with a spy decides he has time for tea.

He is given the key to room #2, where Euthalia James waits for her first time.

*

Standing beside him, she leaned over to pour, and he grabbed her around the waist pulling her onto his lap.   She almost lost the teapot.  Travers caught it with one hand and put it on the table.  With his free arm, he drew her closer.  His face landed conveniently in her breasts.  He inhaled her rose perfume, and his mouth nibbled the lace releasing a nipple and licked her fullness endeavoring to further free her from the corset.  With his teeth, if necessary.

She trembled.  “Sir?”

He looked up.  Travers didn’t like it that she was afraid.  He was too aware that men could be monsters.  As much as he hated restraining his excitement once he got started, he pulled back into his manners.  “Yes, my dear.”

“I’ve never done this before, sir.  I mean like this.”

“What’s your name?”

“Euthalia.”

“Well, Eulie,” he patted her on the knee, “there’s a first time for everything.”

To be continued in the book: https://www.amazon.com/Mrs-Brights-Room-Tales-Book-ebook/dp/B00M4U4TKG

Though it was hard to choose a “stud,” since most of my heroes have “stud” qualities, I thought it would be a nice change for you to meet this dashing, bad boy in Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

Flowers For A Flower Child—Author C.D. Hersh By Stacy Hoff

Hello, Passionate Readers, today on Nights of Passion I’m hosting Catherine and Donal Hersh, a husband-and-wife romance writing team. How do they manage their joint writing career? With lots and lots of flowers!

Take it away, Catherine and Donald!

Experts say, “Write what you know.” For us that advice often means flowers enter the stories we create. In our newest release, Can’t Stop the Music, we tell the story of a flower child who encounters a magic tree while at the iconic Woodstock Musical Festival. The tree promises her the soul of her life.

In one of the scenes, the hero brings a bouquet of flowers to the heroine, Rose, similar to the one pictured above. The bouquet contains a red rose, daises, lilies, and a sprig of rosemary, because Rose’s full name is Rosemary.

Flowers have played an important part in our relationship. Catherine loves flowers and has a garden full of them, and Donald has always given flowers to her. Sometimes they arrive for birthdays and anniversaries and Sweetest Day. Sometimes she’s gifted posies for absolutely no reason at all.

He’s presented flowers to her a single bloom at a time, brought to the table by different restaurant servers. They’ve arrived at hotel lobbies while they’ve been out of town. He even made his fellow construction workers stop by the roadside while he cut boughs of forsythia (one of Catherine’s favorite spring-flowering bushes) to bring home to her. Catherine loves this story as she envisions the other manly construction workers giving her husband a hard time for being so romantic. The best part is Donald didn’t care one bit. He knew the armful of yellow blooms would melt his wife’s heart. Gotta love a guy like that!

With a flower history like ours, we just had to put a romantic nosegay in our nostalgic romance book, Can’t Stop the Music, where a flower child of the 60s gets her own beautiful bouquet.

Can’t Stop the Music is book number 2 in the Soul Mate Tree series. Each month through January 2018 a new book in the series, written by a different Soul Mate Publishing author, will release. The sensual to steamy romance books, which span a range of genres and settings, revolve around an ancient, magical tree that grants needy persons the soul of their lives.

The Soul Mate Legend says:

It’s an ancient legend spanning eras, continents, and worlds. To some, it’s nothing more than a dream. To others, a pretty fairy tale handed down through the generations.

For those in critical need of their own happy ending, a gift.

Book blurb

For college senior and hippie wannabe Rosemary—Rose for short—a teaching job is within her grasp, but she wants more. She wants love, the kind of love that has bound her parents for so many years. When she’s dumped by her current boyfriend because her morals can’t bring her to give in to free love, she finds herself at Woodstock in the middle of the biggest free-love, music festival of the Sixties. Alone, again. Until a magical tree grants her wish and she finds the man of her dreams—and loses him before she really knows who he is.

Dakota meets the girl of his dreams at Woodstock, but a jealous wannabe girlfriend drives them apart before he can discover Rose’s last name and where she comes from. After he sees a disappearing tree that promises him true love, a frantic search to find Rose comes up empty-handed.

Magic and music brings them together at Woodstock in 1969. Misunderstandings tear them apart. Will two flower children find one another again, or live with missed opportunities?

Book Trailer for The Soul Mate Tree: https://youtu.be/VjxyyD3TVoA

Trailer for CAN’T STOP THE MUSIC: https://youtu.be/18EuE-SOvH4

Short Excerpt:

In his hand he held a bouquet of mixed flowers containing a single red rose, some white daisies, a couple of lilies, and a spike of pungent rosemary.

He held them out to her. “You weren’t wearing flowers in your hair at Woodstock, so I wasn’t sure what kind you liked. I hope these are okay.”

“They’re beautiful.” Waving him inside, she took the blooms from him. “How sweet of you.”

“I thought flowers for my flower child, Rose, were appropriate.”

His footsteps behind her stopped, and she turned. He stood staring at her Woodstock collage.

“This takes me back.” He tapped the glass over the Woodstock ticket. “This ought to be worth money someday.”

“Too many memories attached to sell those mementos.”

He closed the gap between them and embraced her, holding her close. “Remember when I held you in my arms at Woodstock?”

She giggled. “Technically, one arm. You held up your guitar case with the other as we slid down the hill.”

“I didn’t tell you then, but holding you felt right. Still does.”

She lowered her head. He tipped her chin up until she gazed at him.

“This date has been a long time coming, Rosemary.” Then he kissed her.

For a second she didn’t move. Then as his kiss deepened, she fell victim to its power. Her arms wrapped around his neck, the fragrance of rose, lily, and rosemary swirled around them as the bouquet rested against his back. After what seemed an eternity, he released her.

“I should get these flowers in water before the heat of passion wilts them.” And me.

The Emotional Connection

Each day, technology plays a bigger role in our lives, most especially when it comes to communication. We text, chat, call, and interact with each other through social media. When it comes to companies and us consumers considering their goods and services, we usually check them out online first.

My day job is a highly technical job that requires I keep knowledgeable about very specific areas of Finance, and yet at the end of the day whether I am talking to a client or writing a short story it all comes down to an ability to connect with people. I need to connect with clients on some level otherwise they won’t trust that what I tell them truly does come from a good place. When it comes to readers, I need to try and connect them to the story and my characters. In order for me to do this, it is essential that I understand emotions.

So what does all of this mean and what am I going on about? I’m not going to go as far as to say that the human understanding of emotions will always be superior to any type of technology–findings astound me each day as machines continue to learn and develop. What I am saying is that for now, emotions and the human connection (done digitally or in person) are still a very large part of the equation in understanding each other and where we are coming from. And while I love technology, I also believe that sometimes talking things out or spending time together the plain, old-fashioned way can do us a lot of good.

Did A Speaking Gig on Self Publishing

On Sunday I had what I believe is my second speaking gig where I sat at a table with another author and talked about publishing and self publishing.

Mostly I spent time wondering what the hell I was doing there, but apparently I have some stuff to say that other writers can find useful.

My table mate was the super lovely Eve Langlais, and mostly I was sitting there thinking ‘please keep talking, please keep talking.’ I’m selfish like that

The Melt Paranormal-Scope

Warmth permeates everything this week. My snow is almost gone, too.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

The week for:

Aries:

Goblins are watching every penny. Be cautious of casual spending this week.

Taurus:

Dragons moan when they can’t watch their favorite show. Get away from the TV and develop a hobby or go out.

Gemini:

Faeries are adorable in pastels. Take a serious look at your wardrobe. Does it say success?

Cancer:

A werewolf thinks you’re the greatest. His bark is worse than his bite. Give this new friend a chance. The first meeting could be awkward.

Leo:

Werescorpions are coming your way. Lay low. Avoid argumentative people. Keep everything on a professional level.

Virgo:

Shapeshifters are artistic. Open up to your creative side. Paint! Dance! Sculpt! Try something new or return to a forgotten art that you once enjoyed.

Libra:

Pixies are messy. Be prepared to do a lot of cleaning this week. Just chalk it up to Spring.

Scorpio:

Mermaids adore you. They sing your praises! You have a lot to be proud of.  Enjoy it.

Sagittarius:

Orcs believe in following their passion. Check it out. It may provide new opportunities for you.

Capricorn:

Griffons soar through the clouds. Preconceived notions are weighing you down. Drop them and soar.

Aquarius:

Werebunnies are hopping. Great news is coming your way.

Pisces:

Vampires are budget conscious. Re-evaluate your finances and make good decisions to save.
