Hot Paranormal-Scope

It’s getting hotter where I am? What about you? And I’m not just talking about the romance novels. Giggles.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

The week for:

Aries:

Gnomes love making their home fires burn regardless of the sunshine. Love is in the air. Breathe.

Taurus:

Pixies love the pitter patter of little feet. Okay, they have little feet. Unexpected company may be coming your way.

Gemini:

One vampire is a vacation. Two vampires is a party. Three vampires means you’re making food for friends.

Cancer:

Bear shifters are tall, dark and handsome. Okay and furry. You know what they say about a bearskin rug.

Leo:

Mermaids luxuriate in the ocean. Water can be so restorative. Make your bath or shower more luxurious.

Virgo:

Goblins don’t like candles. They may be romantic, but they can also burn a house down. There are other ways to be romantic.

Libra:

Shapeshifters have dancing feet. Consider dancing or another fun exercise. Let your hair down and express yourself.

Scorpio:

Faeries love decorating to create an enchanting, soothing home. Decorate and then have a party.

Sagittarius:

Orcs are misunderstood. Don’t judge books or people by their covers. Their insides could surprise you.

Capricorn:

Dragons find you attractive and fun. Someone will surprise you in a good way.

Aquarius:

Griffons have great manners. Hang out with charming people and learn new things.

Pisces:

Giant snails are not edible, but they are great to ride. A journey is in your future.

Excerpt Time! By Ripley Proserpina

I’m not sure why, but I tend to write books that take place in the fall and winter. I think it’s because, where I live, it’s perpetually cold. Except in July. People in Vermont live for July. Finding Valor, the second book in my series, The Searchers, took place in November, probably the least Vermont-y of the Vermont seasons. Leaves are gone. It rains. Constantly. Indian summer is well forgotten and there’s only the five months of snow to look forward to. Sound lovely??

But forget about November, because it’s almost May! So in order to appreciate the beauty that is summer in Vermont, I leave you with an excerpt about November.

Groaning, Nora’s hands gripped the back of Ryan’s jacket, slipping beneath it to push his sweater and t-shirt aside. Her chilly hands against his skin made him shiver. Their kiss was a jumble of teeth, tongues, lips. It wasn’t his smoothest kiss by any stretch, but he held nothing back, and neither did she.

He didn’t know how long he kissed her, but eventually it lost its urgency. Whatever his anxiety or fear or discombobulation, it disappeared when he kissed her. For a moment, one blissful moment, he only thought of her and his sudden, overwhelming desire to bring her home, throw her on his bed, and finally lose himself in her.

Her lips were swollen when she pulled away. She sucked her lower lip into her mouth, her tongue sneaking out as if gathering up his taste, and he squeezed his eyes shut.

Her cold fingertips touched his face.

“I have class,” he said out loud, reminding himself of the reason why he couldn’t drag her back to the house. “I have class.”

When she chuckled, he opened his eyes. “Walk with me?”

She nodded quickly, happily.

It was so easy with Nora. Despite sharing her with four other guys, it was effortless. Whatever mess his head was right now, it was all on him and had nothing to do with the girl staring at him like he hung the moon.

Wrapping her arm around his, he walked toward his class. She tucked her head into her shoulders when the wind blew and her curls flew everywhere, spirals catching the sunlight and gleaming like gold.

She gave a little shiver, and he untangled his arm in order to pull her into his body. “You need a hat.” While he wore a wool coat, Nora still only had a fall jacket. It wouldn’t do much when the lake froze and the wind barreled across campus like a train.

“I know,” she whispered, rubbing her face against his shoulder and wrapping both hands around his arm.

“And mittens.” As he spoke, he remembered the small bag of belongings the police had left her and worried she didn’t wear them because she didn’t own any, but she smiled.

“I have some, somewhere,” she mused. “I remember seeing them when I unpacked.”

“Why didn’t you wear them?” This conversation was safe, and from the way she giggled, distracting.

“I didn’t realize it’d be this cold.” The tip of her nose was red, and she shivered again.

“And a scarf.”

Finding Valor is available on Amazon, iBooks, Kobo, and B&N.

My Special Kind of Sexy Saturday Blog Hop & Excerpt from Vampire Princess of New York

In Vampire Princess of New York, King Max’s daughter Noblesse has to choose vampireprincessofnewyorkbetween two men. Both profess to love her. Tonight we look at the passion Kaz has for Noblesse in the Sexy Saturday Blog Hop Excerpt. He is tall, dark, built and an Italian vampire. He was a gladiator in Ancient Rome who was made a vampire in the court of Emperor Nero. They are alone on an exclusive observation deck of the Empire State Building where an intimate dinner awaits them. This is limited to 7 paragraphs. This is their first date.

*

He pulled her into his arms and then poof. In the next moment, he was holding her as they floated over the spire of the Empire State Building. She found it exhilarating and for the moment forgot any suspicions she had of Kaz.

“I love you, Noblesse,” he whispered in her ear.

She giggled nervously, because she had no answer for him. Why couldn’t she say it back?

“Let’s go eat that dessert,” she purred in his ear.

They stood next to their food laden table again. “You teleport. Can you turn invisible too?” Noblesse asked.

“Easily, and become like mist.” He disappeared and for a moment, a sweet smelling mist brushed against her face. Kaz appeared, his arms around her and pulled her slowly into a kiss.

Fire roared through her body at the impact. He lingered on her mouth, with kiss after kiss after kiss, his embrace holding her tightly against him, molding her to his strong, firm body. Her breath caught when he moved to kiss her neck.

Spring has Sprung by Stacy Hoff

Here in the New England, spring has finally sprung. The first sign of spring, the forsythia bush, is as clear as a traffic signal, its bright yellow leaves ordering winter to stop.

To me, a blooming forsythia bush means more than the end of a seemingly endless winter. It means rebirth. The proof is all around me. In the middle of the above picture, which I took in my back yard, you can see a cardinal. What you can’t see is the cardinal’s girlfriend, hiding in the branches below. If I’m lucky, I’ll see a nest full of baby cardinals soon.

My backyard gets baby birds all the time. I hope I never move. Because seeing life all around me makes me feel alive, too.

Unfortunately, I can’t stay outside in the sunlight all the time. I’ve got to spend time in my office. If I don’t, I can’t wrap up my third book in the BUILDING LOVE series. I’m eagerly awaiting this manuscript finally hatching. Since the first book in the series, BETTING ON LOVE IN VEGAS, recently came out, I hope my readers are eagerly awaiting book 3, too.

Maybe this spring, my manuscript will spring forth. Walks in the springtime will keep me motivated to write.

What motivates you?

S-Town, the Art in a Podcast

Before I realized I had a passion for writing, I had a passion for reading. I loved books then and I still do today. There is something so incredible about being wrapped up in a story, tied to the characters and inexplicably bound to determine what happens. You become completely invested in the outcome of the story itself.

Most recently, I’ve found this same sort of novelistic enjoyment in podcasts. Not all of them of course, but a couple that really pulled me in. It’s interesting in that it is a entirely different medium and yet like reading, listening to the podcast stimulates my imagination’s ability to paint a visual scene by scene of what actually occurs. It is like a mini motion picture in my head.

My most recent podcast of choice is called S-Town, which I highly recommend. It is real life, but producer, Brian Reed tells the story in such a way that it feels like you are pulled into the the small town of Woodstock, Alabama. Brian originally goes to this town to investigate murder and corruption per one man’s request. What he finds instead is insight into many of the issues we face as a society.

As I listened to this podcast, I couldn’t help but marvel at the art of it all. Reed encounters so much good and so much darkness within the lives of folks in this small town and somehow he strikes a balance. There is a lot that isn’t pretty to listen to but that is the truth of life. And in my opinion, if an artist isn’t making me feel (good or bad), then they aren’t doing what they set out to do.

Happy writing this week!

Words Per Day by Mandy Rosko

Greetings! Dropping in on the last ten days I have to get the sticker for my license plate updated to bring you some, hopefully helpful, tidbits of advice on writing.

A lot of us struggling with writing every day, even authors who write for their living full time. I’m known to take a few days off from time to time, and when I get my butt back to work, I find it harder than ever to get back into the groove.

And despite this, I still take days off, a never ending cycle of never learning my lesson T~T

But! And this was a small piece of advice that I sent out to a writer friend who is also one of my Patrons, I sent her a postcard with my simpleton math on it, because as much as I suck at math, and hate it, when it comes to writing, this is where math is my friend, and I noticed something and wanted to point it out to her to help her along on her writing adventures.

500 words per day. Most of us can do that, even with full time jobs and kids. We can do that on our lunch breaks. Some of us can crank that out in 10-20 minutes. or sooner @_@

The beautiful thing is that 500 words per day is just over 180K words per year, or 3 60K word novels. Full novels. Brilliant, right?

Cracked Egg Paranormal-Scope

Beware of too many candy eggs.

While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.

The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.

The week for:

Aries:

Shapeshifters enjoy bursting forth from the maddening crowd. Your individuality will make you sparkle.

Taurus:

Werewolves sometimes let the pack influence them too much. Check out the facts before making life changing decisions.

Gemini:

Pixies can be surprising. Volunteer to help someone who needs assistance.

Cancer:

Griffons value their friends. A misunderstanding can be cleared up by listening and then with well chosen words.

Leo:

Gnomes love to toss off the hats and let their hair down. Cut loose and be a little silly with friends. Let them know you have a sense of humor.

Virgo:

Goblins value differences in opinion. That makes life interesting and you can learn much from others.

Libra:

Mermaids are slow building new relationships. The slow wave is the best.

Scorpio:

Vampires live so long that they’ve learned one thing. Instead of worrying about results, enjoy the ride.

Sagittarius:

Dragons get a lot of opportunities. You don’t have to do them all. Your time is precious.

Capricorn:

Faeries are planners. So are you. Don’t be afraid to wing some stuff this week. Be creative on your feet.

Aquarius:

Elves know the gathering is important to life. Plan a party for those close to you. Hangout and chill.

Pisces:

Werebunnies never worry about things they can’t control. It’s time to let go of those worries that hold you back from enjoying life more.

Is There Life on Mars? Interview with Lyn Forester. By Ripley Proserpina

Reverse Harem author in the house! Lyn Forester is an author-of-all-genres. I found her first book, Under a Holo Sky, when I was on a mystery kick. Her book, a sci-fi mystery, was a mix of Stephanie Plum and the Hunger Games, and I was immediately hooked on her writing. This week, I’m posting an interview with her. Enjoy! ~ Ripley

Caitlyn, your main character in your new book, House of Glass, is quite unique. Tell us about her and the world where she lives.
Caitlyn lives on a poisonous planet where the cities are stacked on top of each other in order to make room for the growing population. The higher up the level, the higher class citizen you are and Caitlyn’s family lives at the top. Caitlyn is the only daughter of High Councilor Lonette, and set to take her father’s place on the council of Leton when her father steps down. She has been groomed since birth to accept her pre-decided path, but she’s determined to follow her own dreams.

Your book is a reverse harem romance. Tell us about Caitlyn’s guys and how they meet.
Caitlyn’s guys meet while they’re in boarding school together and become fast friends. Caitlyn, who has home tutors, doesn’t meet them until later, when’s sent to finishing school and discovers that her old racing competitors are also son’s of the High Council.

What are your plans for Caitlyn in the future, and the world she inhabits?
Caitlyn’s world is in constant threat, both from the poisonous planet she inhabits, as well as the shift in political powers that run the stacked cities. They currently live in balance with another race called the halions, who crash landed on the planet at the same time. But as the halion race continues to decline and the humans keep breeding, this balance is shifting. Poisoned Houses sister series, Poison World, takes place four years in the future, right when this balance is at its most precarious.

Bio
Lyn Forester graduated with a Bachelor in English and an Associates in Graphic Design. She worked in the graphic design industry for ten years before deciding to pursue her other life long dream of becoming a writer. She grew up reading mostly fantasy books, though later in life found a love of urban fantasy and science fiction. She currently works from her home in Washington State where she squeezes in writing time around a busy schedule. When not working, she can be found experimenting with new recipes, reading, or playing video games and the occasional board game.

Excerpt:
“Yeah, this year will be great!” a male voice shouts from behind me.
Startled, I twist around and slip. My heart thunders in my chest as my feet leave the ground. Free falling, I fling my arms out, desperate for something to anchor me.
“Whoa, there.” A warm arm encircles my waist, catches me against a warm chest. “Be careful. Those heels are dangerous.”
I glance up into golden-brown eyes, surrounded by a thick fringe of lashes. Heavy, dark brown eyebrows slant upward as his mouth curves into a grin. My pulse pounds harder, now that I’m safe.
“Thank you.” A blush stains my cheeks, and I curse the translucent skin that came with my red hair.
“That’s some heartbeat you have there.” He sets me on my feet but keeps a hand on my back as if worried I’ll fall again. The heat of his palm sinks through my light sweater, burning its way into my flesh.
“Thank you.” I shake myself and stammer, “For catching me. Falling hurts.”
“Yeah, I know the feeling.” His gravely voice rumbles inside his chest.
I frown, the sound pinging in my memory.
“Nice catch, dude,” the same guy from earlier calls. A shaggy, black haired head pops over my rescuer’s shoulder. Grass-green eyes rake over me, a smirk twisting the corner of his mouth. “Seriously, nice catch.”
“Stop it, you’ll creep her out.” Another guy appears, black hair combed away from his face. Through a pair of wire-rimmed glasses, his serious green eyes glance over me. Tall and slender, the white button down school shirt hugs his body to accentuate the narrowness of his hips. “Forgive my brother, he has no manners.”
As my eyes shift between the two brothers, the first one stands straighter, moving away from his brown-haired friend. He pushes the black hair back from his face and turns to him. “Trust me, she’s not creeped out, bro.”
“More like creeped *on*.” His brother glances at him, and they have the same straight-nosed profile, the same jawline.
“Twins.” I look back at my rescuer.
His smile broadens, hand tightening on my waist. “Nice to finally see your face, Sparks.”

Sexy to the Rescue Saturday Blog Hop & Excerpt from Vampire Princess of New York

In Vampire Princess of New York, one of the suitors for Princess Noblesse’s hand has a heroic nature. Donovan is only human but this Harley riding Cajun is also the father of two vampire daughters Laura and Evelyn. So he knows what he’s getting into. He loves Noblesse fiercely but when she is safe and a friend is not, he has to be part of that rescue team even if it costs him his life. When the Arnhem Society in Manhattan explodes, Lily Snow, the librarian is trapped with little time and air at a premium.

The blog hop limits the excerpt to seven words, sentences, or paragraphs. I give you part of the rescue scene. They have to go through a tunnel and an antique stairway. With everything broken it’s touch and go what will fall and crush them. Laura can create an electric arc with her hands, a light so to speak.  But time is against them. There is nothing like a hero who puts the lives of others ahead of his own.

*

The large man put his hands together. Donovan put his foot into them, bracing himself for the shove up into the small opening. He grabbed a stair and pulled himself into the space and began the crawl up.

He didn’t need to see her to feel Laura behind him. Donovan went up the stairs as fast as he could. David was behind Laura. He couldn’t stand with the mechanism being stuck. It didn’t clear enough head room. He pushed on further.

“Lily, it’s Donovan. We are almost to you.”

Laura held up her hand, and he could see the steps instead of feel for them.

“Donovan,” came back a whisper. “I’m in the dark.”

“Don’t worry, Lily. Laura and David are right behind me. We’re getting you out.”

“I hurt my leg. I can’t feel it. It’s stuck.”
