The Victorian Lure Short Excerpt:
Standing within inches, the smile he bestowed made her grasp the counter behind her. If she didn’t know better, she’d swear he must be the poster boy for the Scottish Highlands. Her mind drifted once more to the sight of his backside. Dakota couldn’t help but wonder if he’d ever worn a kilt. Did they even wear those there anymore?
Probably not. As if she was into guys wearing skirts anyway…please.
“Like it light and sweet?” He asked.
“What?”
“Your coffee.”
Of course that’s what he meant. After all, no such thing as a light and sweet kilt! She chuckled.
He cocked his head. “You should laugh more often, Dakota,” he murmured, still standing close.
“I should?”
“Aye, lass.”
The way he said it─brogue soft and full of encouragement─made her find the counter with her other hand. Full support was needed. Lord. Only ten hours ago, no, two, she had found him obnoxious and overbearing. Now she wasn’t so sure.
“Was I right about the coffee?” he asked.
Coffee? Right, light and sweet. “Yeah, how’d you know?”
His eyes fell to her lips. “Just a feeling.”
“Good feeling,” she said softly. The room faded away. Idle chatter vanished. She liked the sensual cut of his lower lip. The edges curved down a bit, as though he spent too much time frowning. His top lip was carved into strong slopes. She imagined running her tongue between his lips, tracing the smooth edges. Where had that thought come from?
When he leaned across to set his mug on the counter, he came so close she could smell a fresh, soapy spice burn from his skin. Or was that the candle? He was so tall, lips so close. If she only moved forward a fraction, closed the distance, would his lips taste as good as they looked?
Leathan’s eyes rose to hers. She knew as she gazed into their rich depths, he wanted the same. Blood rushed through her limbs, made her lips throb in anticipation. What harm could one little kiss do?
Just to see.

Interview with Karen Y Bynum Author of Witch Way to Turn

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
I’m a sassy southern girl who loves 80s music, anything random and the smell of a Sharpie. I know, the Sharpie thing is a bit odd. lol I get very cranky when I’m sleepy (just ask my hubby) and the Banshee (that’s what I call my hunger) comes out when I’m starving (ask anyone who has been around me when I’ve missed a meal). You’ve been warned. Bwahaha.
I absolutely adore the young adult genre because of the teen angst and the urgency. The paranormal side mixes the unknown with desire…a desire to be different or to be normal. It’s always exciting to see which side the heroine/hero fall on.
What is it about the paranormal, in particular vampires, that fascinates you so much?
The brooding conflicted persona vampires give off. They are struggling with this inner lust that could easily overtake them if not carefully guarded. And for some, it does rule their lives. The paranormal world is filled with creatures that could just as easily be living in our world…hidden away…watching us. Their mysterious ways fascinate me :)

Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
My special formula is to Google baby names. (Side note: if I find a name that’s popular now, I almost always won’t use it.) I normally know the first letter I want the name to start with and then I go from there. Sometimes I go by the meaning of a name, but most of the time I’ll come across a name and I just know… That’s the one! For me, my characters’ first names never change once I find that particular one. But a lot of times their last names change. A lot.

Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
I really enjoyed writing Dandelion Peace Camp’s character (her nickname is Dandi). The name alone sold me. It came to me as I was driving on the interstate to go visit a friend in Virginia Beach, Virginia one Saturday afternoon. I was about halfway through writing the first draft when Dandi just appeared. I hadn’t planned on her being in the story at all. Didn’t know to expect her. But there she was. I don’t want to give too much away about her, but I will say that she is a sixteen-year-old vampire whose mom was Cherokee and dad was a hippie… Thus, the name. She’ll eventually become a really close friend of Breena’s.

What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
One of my fave scenes is when Breena discovers what she is. She totally freaks out. Doesn’t believe it. She tries not to think about it, but there comes a time when she must accept it.

What is the most interesting thing you have physically done for book related research purposes?
Well, that’s an excellent question. When I went to have my author photographs taken, I decided I wanted to get-into-character by taking a picture of me pretending to be my heroine from Witch Way to Turn. So I did! The photographer and I walked out into the woods and did lots of poses with me pretending to “shoot light” at an invisible attacker. It was awesome! Later she went in and added the rays of light coming out of my hands. I’ve yet to post that picture on any social media though. Wonder if people would like to see it? lolz
Can you tell readers a little bit about the world building in the book/series? How does this world differ from our normal world?
The world I’ve built is within our normal world. However, the mundanes don’t know the supernaturals exist. All supes feed off mundanes (whether it’s blood, soul, flesh or energy) in order to live. The Witches Council (WC) governs the supernatural world, and they are very strict about not overpopulating the world with supes because there has to be enough food (mundanes) to sustain them. It’s a vastly growing concern, and the political platform for the president of the WC.
Do any of your characters have similar characteristics of yourself in them and what are they?
Why yes, they do! :) Breena Cross (the heroine) has inner dialogue running through her head all the time. Oh, and she loves to eat breakfast food! Orin Heider (the preternatural assassin love interest) often speaks before he thinks. Myles Young (the vampire convict love interest) is extremely protective of the ones he loves.

What was the last amazing book you read?
I just finished reading an adult romance titled Only Scandal Will Do by Jenna Jaxon. It was fantastic! I don’t normally read historicals, but this book was so captivating. From the moment the heroine was kidnapped and sold for auction at a brothel, I was hooked. I had to know what would happen to her, and how she’d be able to find her happily ever after. Highly recommend it!
Where is your favorite place to read? Do you have a cozy corner or special reading spot?
I love to read curled up in my favorite fuzzy green blanket. It’s also a fave of my spoiled rotten pup named Rusty, so I have to fight him for it sometimes. lol Normally I brew a cup of hot tea (even during the summer), curl up on the sofa with Rusty and read away!
What can readers expect next from you?
I’m hard at work on book #2 in the Witch Way series! Lots of things happening with my girl Breena!I also have a demon-slaying unicorn story title Running From Shadows that I hope to have published in the near future. It’s about a unicorn shifter who must choose to kill the boy she loves to save her coven from the shadow demon who lusts after her soul.

Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
I’d love to! Here’s a mini-excerpt with Breena and Orin…
Orin caught her hand in his and twirled her around to face him as if they were going to tango. “Doesn’t matter to me.”
“What does matter to you?” She bit her lip. It was a bold question, but he made her want to leap outside her comfort zone.
“Until the other night, not much.”
“What changed?”
Wrapping Breena’s arms around his neck, Orin drew her into him until their legs twined together. “I’ve found something worth dying for.”
“Don’t most people want to find something worth living for?”
“How hard is it to live for something? To die for something is beyond most people.”
“You know, that was kinda poetic.” She tilted her head up toward him.
He tightened his arms around her. “Not meant to be poetic.”
“How’d ya mean it?”
“Death is risking it all.” He leaned down, his breath warm on her lips. “And I would, Breena. I would risk everything for you.”
He pressed against her, close enough that she could feel his heart beating fast against her skin. A soft heat warmed the gold in his mesmerizing eyes, and his mouth was right there, full and oh so inviting…

Character Interview and Giveaway with Felicity Heaton

Interview with an sexy succubus – Varya, heroine of ENSLAVE
It’s great to be here at Fang-Tastic Books for the next stop in my Vampirerotique Summer Book Tour.
Today, I was lucky enough to lure the sexy succubus heroine of ENSLAVE, the fourth Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series book, into my little lair to talk to her about her alpha vampire hero, Andreu, their romance and life at Vampirerotique.
FH: I have a very sassy succubus here with me today. Because she’s a fae, and a fae’s real name gives people power over them, I can’t use her real name. I’ll be using her nickname, Chica. So, I have Chica here with me today to talk about her book, Enslave. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?
CHICA: Thank you for understanding about the name thing. A lot of people don’t get it. When it became clear that I would be at Vampirerotique with Andreu for a while, I decided to choose a name for myself so others knew what to call me. Andreu always calls me Chica, so I chose that as my name. I’m a succubus and, to be honest, I had grown a bit tired of life. My friends said it was something all succubi went through and I was hopeful that it was and I would find my enthusiasm again. It probably seems so silly to hear that I was a succubus without any drive to feed through sex, but I was. It can get boring after several hundred years. Of course, then I met Andreu!
FH: How did you meet and how did you feel about him initially?
CHICA: Oh, he’s so hot. Isn’t he? The moment I set eyes on him, I knew I had to have a taste. He’s sex made flesh and just gorgeous. I know he wears shadows and that I should have stayed away from him, but boy am I glad that I didn’t. That man knows how to do naughty. *purrs* He is made by the gods just for me. I swear.
FH: So, you’re saying that you liked him?
CHICA: Yes, I guess I am. Sorry. I get a little excited whenever I think about my naughty vampire.
FH: That’s good though. He really seems to have restored your lust for life. You mentioned that Andreu wears shadows. That means he has a black aura and you cannot read his feelings, and by clan law you’re not allowed to interact with him. Was it hard for you at first?
CHICA: Very. I tried to stay away from him because I wasn’t sure why my clan believed that shadowed males were dangerous. When I found out why, I tried even harder to keep away, but something about Andreu kept drawing me back to him. I just couldn’t resist him. I didn’t care if I was risking my life. I had to keep coming back for another taste. I wanted him so badly.
FH: And in the end you got him, but it wasn’t easy on either of you. How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?
CHICA: I’m becoming accustomed to life at the theatre. Antoine lets me watch the practices where only young vampires are on the stage. They can’t sense that I’m different so it doesn’t unsettle them. Andreu watches the performances with me and things tend to get a little hot and heavy. *giggles* I don’t think either of us can help ourselves. I’ve been growing used to being around Payne and the others, and I think the older performers at the theatre are getting used to me being around too. Victor always runs in the opposite direction whenever he sees me though. Andreu thinks it’s funny.
FH: Speaking of thinking things are funny, I’ve heard from some of the other women at the theatre that you’ve formed a sort of troublemaking pack with Snow.
CHICA: Snow is a charmer, and he’s definitely our leader. Don’t let anyone tell you differently. He’s naughty and has a very wicked streak when he’s bored. You should see him taunt his brother. I swear, if any one of us tried to do that to Antoine, the aristocrat would have our heads. If it’s Snow and Sera annoying him, he just takes it in his stride. I’ve heard that we’ll have a new troublemaker in our pack soon. Callum has said that Kristina is going to move into the theatre. All of us women have vowed to keep her safe. I think Snow will lead the protect-Kristina pack too. He always takes care of us ‘females’. I think he does it so we’ll read to him and keep him company while the men are busy with the business.
FH: Snow does like company and I’m glad that he has you all to stop him from being bored. I couldn’t imagine what he goes through being stuck in the theatre, but then he’s not alone in that anymore. I suppose we’ll be seeing more of you in other stories in the series?
CHICA: Oh, absolutely. I intend to cause as much trouble as I can and that means I’ll be popping up all over the place!
FH: Sounds like you’ll be having lots of fun. I’ll finish on a question I ask all interviewees. Describe yourself in one word?
CHICA: Trouble. *grins*
FH: That is very apt and suits you so much. Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting.
CHICA: Thank you for having me! Who are you interviewing next? Andreu?
FH: I’ve already interviewed your ‘naughty vampire’. I have to interview Payne next.
CHICA: Oh, that should be interesting. He’s been in a terrible mood this week. I don’t think he’s getting enough, if you know what I mean.
FH: *laughs* I’ll have to ask him about it. Catch you later, Troublemaker!
CHICA: *giggles and disappears*
FH: I can see that interviewing Payne isn’t going to be fun at all.

Guest Blog and Giveaway with Bernadette Walsh

Witches and Faeries and Demons--Oh My!By Bernadette Walsh
Last week when an acquaintance asked me what I was writing, I mumbled, “a paranormal romance.”             “What’s a paranormal?” he asked.            “It’s, uh, about witches.”            He was very nice and said, “how interesting,” but I was a little embarrassed. After all, writing about witches sounds, well, juvenile. However, my Devlin Legacy books are anything but. They deal with infertility, infidelity and the sometimes strained relationship between mothers and daughters -- with a little witchcraft thrown in for good measure.            I found that working within the paranormal space allows me deal with”real life” issues in a way that avoids a “Lifetime movie” feel. I think a book about infertility to me would be too heavy, and frankly I thinks it’s been done to death. However, in a paranormal I was able to use a woman’s burning desire for a child as the catalyst for her to make a deal with a devil-like creature.            I think its important when writing paranormal to ground your characters in ordinary experiences. If your characters are constantly running from dangers or casting spells, they can feel like cardboard characters rather than living breathing people. Charlaine Harris does this so well in the Sookie Stackhouse - True Blood books. Yes, Sookie spends her time running from or sleeping with sexy vamps, but in every book she deals with experiences that we can all relate to: shopping for a new dress, running short of money before pay day, sunbathing. These types of normal activities serve two purposes. First they allow for a “rest” in between the more suspenseful vamp action, but more importantly they help frame a relatable world.             In my first Devlin Legacy book I really winged the paranormal element. I described the characteristics of my primary paranormal character -- he can take the form of animals, he is can visit people in dreams and take over their bodies -- but I never really identify what he is, although since the book is set in Ireland I infer that he might be some type of fae. Because I was essentially making up my own paranormal entity I didn’t need to conform to any of  the reader’s pre-existing notions, as I would for example if I was writing about a vampire. That provided me with enormous freedom.             However in Book Two I dealt more with the witchcraft aspect of my heroine. One downside to paranormal being so popular right now is that readers know at least the basics of the popular paranormal species: witches, vampires, weres.  Since I don’t want to make the kind of mistake that will take readers out of my story, I researched witchcraft on the web and I even attended the New York Witch Festival in Smithtown, Long Island.             So far I’ve enjoyed my time in paranormal land and I think I’ll stay for a while.

About the Author
Long Bio          I have always been a bookworm and had always meant to write a novel “someday.” You know, when I won the lottery and could live in beach house and look out onto the water and feel inspired. Four years ago I decided to stop waiting for my winning lottery ticket and sat down and started writing in between work and family obligations, I piled the words on top of each other until they formed sentences, paragraphs, chapters and eventually a book.  My first book, a contemporary romance, Gold Coast Wives, was published in November 2011. The House on Prospect is my second novel. The first book of my paranormal trilogy, Devil’s Mountain -- Book One of the Devlin Legacy, was published in June 2012. While I’ve hopped around genres, all of my books to date have a common theme: strong women handling what life throws at them the best way they can.
Short Bio
Bernadette Walsh has been writing contemporary and paranormal romance for four years. She has published three novels to date (The House on Prospect (Echelon Press) and Gold Coast Wives (Lyrical Press)) and the first book of her paranormal trilogy, Devil’s Mountain -- Book One of the Devlin Legacy. While Bernadette has hopped around genres, all of her books to date have a common theme: strong women handling what life throws at them the best way they can.

Guest Blog with Chastity Bush

Thanks for having me here today, Roxanne!

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Chastity Bush, author of several romance novels, known for their suspense, spicy romance, and humorous edge. I’m also the mother of two girls, one of whom just became a teenager, and the other is fast approaching. Drama, drama everywhere!
Enough about me. I’ve been asked several times about the path to becoming a published author. What’s it like? Do you make a lot of money? What should/shouldn’t I do? So I’ve compiled a little list to help the aspiring authors out there. I hope this helps!

Top Ten Tips To Help The Aspiring Author
10. Never submit your work to a publisher or agent before doing your research. I mean thorough research. Ask other authors, use google, do anything to get a good idea of what and who you’re sending your work to. There’s plenty of con’s out there, don’t get swindled by one.
9. Write what you love. What’s hot today might not be so hot tomorrow.
8. Write from your imagination. Don’t try to improve on someone else’s ideas. You have an imagination, use it.
7. READ! That’s right, read. Spark that imagination, and relax at the same time.
6. Don’t force it. The more you try to force yourself to write a story, the more likely you are the write a bad one. You’re muse will talk to you when it’s ready. Don’t push it.
5. Don’t get discouraged. When you receive a rejection, and it will happen, don’t get upset. Keep trying.
4. Have a thick skin, for the above-mentioned rejections. Some are cruel, others very helpful, but either way, be tough.
3. Don’t doubt yourself. If you like what you’re writing, keep going. Not everyone will like it, but if you’re happy with it, that’s what matters. Someone out there will love it, too!
2. Tell everyone about your story. Your gamily, the pretzel guy at the mall, the cashier at the grocery store, everyone! The best way to get your name out there is word or mouth.
1.     Last but certainly not least, DO NOT WRITE FOR THE MONEY!!! I hate to break it to you, but money doesn’t come out of a writer’s wazoo. Write because you love it. Write because there’s a story in you dying to get out. Write to create a new world others can lose themselves in when the stress of everyday life gets to them. But never write thinking you’re going to strike it rich. You might one day, and I certainly hope you do, but don’t automatically expect it.
I hope this helps some of you out there. I had a great time being here today, and would like to say thanks again for having me.

Now on Tour Sunstruck by Mayra Calvani

From the author:
The conception of this book stemmed from two factors: my personal observations of Puerto Rican artists when I was a teen and my love for satiric writing. My mother was—and still is—an artist, and although she’s retired now, back in the early eighties she was an active painter in San Juan, showing her works at art exhibits and galleries regularly. She took me everywhere with her, so I attended all these shows and activities and I observed. The art scene can be extremely interesting and that is because so many artists are eccentric, unconventional people. There’s so much competition, jealousy and gossip! I guess all these experiences must have made an impression on me. When the time came to write my book, I knew these were the people and situations I wanted to write about. I decided I would make the book a parody, this way I could keep it upbeat and have the freedom to exaggerate to the point of being ridiculous. I was sure an upbeat, sharp, satiric, darkly humorous style would be perfect for my novel.
Review snippets:
“Dark and quirky humor coupled with quixotic characters adds to the surprising mix found in Sunstruck… I've never read a book remotely like it. Everything from the humorously weird to the acutely macabre can be found between these covers, and then some.” –Laurel Johnson,` Midwest Book Review.
“Highly entertaining!”—Romance Junkies.
"Calvani has taken human nature and put it under a microscope--a warped and slightly cracked microscope. Proving once again that she is a master storyteller in multiple genres, "Sunstruck" by Mayra Calvani is both witty and brilliant." — The Book Connection
"Mayra Calvani is a master of wit. The descriptions contain just the right telling detail, as when she describes Daniella's red hair as the color you'd get if you mixed brandy, carrots, and raspberries in a blender. Calvani makes the absurd seem reasonable. I found myself nodding at death from hiccups, coffee enemas, and drugged cats. The writing is exquisite, and the narrative strangely compelling. Do yourself a favor and snap this one up."—Margaret Fieland, reviewer
"Sunstruck is like a nutty Whodunit with a little twist. Who really is in the Zorro costume? With all the crazy characters I caught myself pointing fingers again and again. A great read that will make you forget where you are, while you giggle yourself to complete oblivion from all the silliness." --Autumn Blues Reviews
"This book was so crazy it was fantastic. Talk about a nutty twisty book this is it and all in good fun." --Babs Book Bistro
"...[A] funny satire that reaches into the realms of paranormal and horror as well as mystery and women's issues." -- Anne K. Edwards, mystery author

"Salvador Dali meets Terry Gilliam...Monty Python's Flying Circus would be proud." -- The Blue Iris Journal

A fun, quirky, beach summer read by Twilight Times Books!
Daniella is an architecture student living with her narcissistic artist boyfriend in San Juan. Abandoned by her father at an early age, Daniella always falls for the ‘wrong’ type of man. Her most enduring male relationship so far has been with her cat.

Several strange mysteries are threaded through Daniella’s everyday life: her ex-husband, Ismael, has just opened an outlandish hotel for animal lovers that has her distraught; Ismael’s wife, a rich woman Daniella fondly refers to as ‘Lady Dracula’, has some gruesome ways to keep her skin looking young; Daniella’s mother is founding a revolutionary, feminist society called The Praying Mantises; the island’s national forest is being depleted of hallucinogenic mushrooms; meanwhile, young girls are disappearing and there’s a nut loose dressed as Zorro slashing the rear ends of women who wear miniskirts.

Oppressed by all these eccentric characters, Daniella feels herself falling into an abyss. Then something terrible happens, making Daniella wake from her stupor and take charge of her life.
