Vampire Costumes from PureCostumes.com
The Vampire Ball is a month away and I'm not 100% sure what I'm wearing yet.
I was hoping to mix it up a bit this year but I'm not sure yet.
I don't exactly know how different I want to go or what I want to do.
My husband wanted to do vampire Santa. I said no. Mainly because I don;t want to be vampire Mrs Claus. LOL
I have been looking at PureCostumes.com. They have a great selection of 2012 Halloween costume ideas including some very awesome vampire costume ideas
And right now they have free shipping for orders over $50 use code FREE50 and they have flat rate $4.99 shipping for any order
Follow the on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with special sales
Have you got your Halloween Costumes yet?
So here are the costumes I am considering right now
This Lady of the Manor has a nice Victorian look to it, which I love. I adore the Victorian styles, though I would much rather the skirt part be big and poofy not tight and form fitting. After all Victorian era dresses are known for bustles. Not skin tight skirts. The little bustle this has just isn't enough for me.

with attached bustle, cravat with cameo pendant and headpiece with cameo.
Mysterious Mistress Adult Costume
Mysterious Mistress Adult Costume
Mysterious Mistress Adult Costume features a slong-sleeved crush velvet knit gown with center front shirring, attached necklae and spider web shimmer knit chiffon trim along the cuff and hemline.
This Mysterious Mistress is nice too- very Morticia Addams which is my style too. I've always loved the Morticia look. Though I don't think I'm thin enough to pull it off anymore. Once upon a time...
Speaking of- PureCostumes.com has Plus Size Halloween costumes too.

I like this Ren Queen above and the Tavern wench below too. I love the Ren/Medieval looks.
Maybe I could be a Ren era vampire? I could even save the costume and wear it to the Ren Faire.
I don't know
What do you think?

Her Demonic Angel
Felicity Heaton
A demonic angel with a heart of ice, Veiron walks a dark path with vengeance on his mind. Nothing will sway him from his mission to destroy his master... until he risks his life to enter Hell once more to save a mortal female. The fiery beauty makes him burn with hungers he must battle and needs he cannot deny, tempting him to surrender body and soul to her.
Erin is convinced her refusal to do the Devil’s bidding will see her die in a terrifying realm straight out of her nightmares. The last thing she expects is the lethally sensual warrior who breaks into her cell and awakens the darkest desires of her heart and a fierce longing to know the heat of his caress.
Pulled into an incredible world where war is set to ignite and darkness is on the rise, Erin races with Veiron to escape the Devil’s legions in a journey fraught with danger and filled with passion that flares white-hot.
When Erin is faced with a life-shattering realisation and an extraordinary destiny, will their love give them the strength to battle both Heaven and Hell or will they be parted forever?

Her Demonic Angel – Excerpt
The door opened behind her and Erin didn’t make the mistake of whirling to face the visitor this time.
She turned slowly, expecting to find either the Devil or one of his cronies come to torment her.
It was neither.
A bloodstained and beaten man wearing tight black jeans that emphasised the thickness of his thighs and a black t-shirt that stretched across the impressive hard cut breadth of his chest stood in the doorway.
He was holding a very big sword.
Erin swallowed.
Had he come to kill her?
She glanced back at the abyss below her feet. What would be a better and less painful death? Falling to this scarlet-haired man’s sword or plummeting into the volcanic river?
“Erin, I presume?” His deep voice wrapped around her and Erin couldn’t miss the concern that laced the weariness and irritation in it.
Erin looked back at him.
He slid the broadsword down his back and scrubbed his hand across several days’ worth of dark growth on his handsome face.
One good-looking man had fooled her already and it wasn’t going to happen again. This man was every bit as lethal, brutal and vicious as the Devil. It was there in his eyes and the way he held himself, legs spread in a warrior’s stance, ready for a fight.
He looked as though he had already been through several battles recently. Now that she looked closer, she spotted tears in his t-shirt that revealed startlingly enticing glimpses of hard packed muscles.
Erin dragged her gaze down to her own feet.
She must have lost it in the past few days. She had finally plunged into crazy, her mind frazzled by her captivity and being in Hell. She had to be insane to be ogling the man who had clearly come to kill her.
“Why don’t you just do it and get this over with?” she said, feeling a spark of defiance ignite in her chest. If she was going to die, she might as well go down fighting.
“Excuse me?” He frowned at her, a quizzical look filling his dark eyes. “Get what over with?”
“Killing me.”
His dark red eyebrows pinched together. “If you’re not Erin, I might.”
It was her turn to frown. “You don’t want to kill me?”
“Are you Erin?”
She nodded.
“Then I don’t want to kill you.” He stepped into her cell and she noted that he didn’t bother to stay close to the door. If she were entering a cell on a mission to save someone, she would certainly keep one foot in the door in case a bad guy came along and shut them both in. Did he have another means of escape if that happened? He raked dark eyes over her and she shivered under the heat of his gaze. “You are not what I was expecting.”
“Ditto,” she said and shrugged when he looked into her eyes, confusion lighting his again. “I was expecting the Devil to come back.”
“The snide little fucker actually paid you a visit in person?”
Erin frowned at how casually he badmouthed the Devil, as though he wasn’t afraid of him. She stared at the man, taking in his impressive height and build. He was taller than the Devil and much broader too, thick sinewy muscles visible beneath his tight clothing. His biceps were huge, so large she would struggle to wrap both of her hands around one arm. Her fingertips and thumbs wouldn’t touch if she tried. Matching black and red tribal tattoos curled around those biceps, a tantalising peek of a larger design that disappeared under the sleeves of his t-shirt.
Erin found herself wanting to strip his top off to see the rest of it.
She really had lost her mind.
“Are you alright?” He frowned again.
“Just a little brain damage,” she said, trying to make light of everything.
He crossed the black floor and stopped before her, towering close to a foot over her, his immense body overshadowing hers and making her feel tiny. He slid one large hand along the line of her jaw, tilted her head back, and stared down into her eyes.
Erin swallowed. It should be illegal for a man to be so handsome yet so lethal-looking. He screamed danger but she wasn’t quaking under his touch because of it. It was a whole other feeling that had her trembling.
“You don’t look crazy,” he whispered and she added his sultry low voice to the list of reasons someone should stamp him with the words ‘dangerous’ and ‘forbidden’. “Now... all opposed to being rescued, raise your hands, otherwise, I’d like to get the fuck out of here.”
Erin didn’t argue, not even when he clamped one strong large hand around her slender wrist and drew the broadsword strapped to his back with the other. She stared at the open door, battling a flood of emotions that threatened to sweep her under. Freedom. This man was here to save her. It was too sweet and glorious to believe. It had to be a cruel trick, another form of torture to break her.
She didn’t have much time to take in what was really happening when he pulled her over the threshold and into a long black corridor that ran between the cells. Before she could even glance back at the cell that had been her home for God only knew how many days, he was dragging her along the hallway.
“Can you run?” He glanced over his broad shoulders at her and didn’t give her a chance to respond before he started at a pace.
Erin tried to keep up. The prospect of actually surviving and escaping Hell flooded her with adrenaline that had her bare feet moving but she couldn’t match his long strides. A bright flash blinded her but it didn’t slow her companion. He kept running. They passed a large open room and she turned her head in time to see several dead bodies strewn across a floor slick with blood. More flashes lit the darkness and with each one, a body disappeared.
They looked like humans. Had the man killed them to reach her? What was that light and why were they disappearing?
She started to ask but her gaze settled on the hard angles of his profile and the stern set of his jaw and she thought better of it. This man was her ticket out of Hell and she wasn’t about to piss him off, not when she had the impression that he was quite content with killing.
Erin pounded along the black-walled corridor beside him, her legs beginning to tire and each step jarring her bones and sending pain shooting across the soles of her feet. She lost her footing on one of the sets of steps that led downwards and almost fell. The man’s hand on her wrist stopped her. He pulled her up by her arm as though she was nothing but a ragdoll in his hands, suspending her off the ground for a second before setting her down again.
“You are weak,” he said and she bristled at the double meaning in his words. He wasn’t just saying she was weak from her captivity, but that he thought she was weak period.
Erin snatched her wrist free of his grasp and rubbed it. She turned her nose up and stormed ahead of him, feeling crazy for taking the lead when she didn’t know where she was going and she didn’t have a weapon, or the knowledge of how to wield one. She couldn’t let him think she was weak though.
He followed behind her, a dark shadow barely a few feet from her, his footsteps almost silent.
They reached a split in the corridor and Erin paused. Neither of the avenues she could take looked inviting. Both were pitch-black and voices came from one. Or was it the other? Everything echoed in the corridors and it was hard to distinguish which would lead her to a grisly death and which would lead her to freedom.
She chose the right.
The man grabbed her around the waist from behind, twisted her in his arm, and slung her over his shoulder.
Erin struggled and his arm tightened against her back, causing his thick shoulder to press into her stomach. Her organs protested, sharp pain lancing each one.
“You’ll fall off. I need to move fast and you’re slowing me down.”
Well, that was just rude. Erin punched his backside. God, it was like a rock. She almost purred. Could this man get any smexier?
“You can’t carry me and fight your way out of here.”
He laughed, the warm timbre of it echoing around the dark walls. “Believe me, Sweetheart, I can fight with both hands tied behind my back. You’re no hindrance at all.”
He jogged down the left corridor with her, each step jolting her on his shoulder until she felt close to losing what little remained of the last thing she ate. Erin grabbed his leather belt, hooked her thumbs into the waist of his jeans and pushed herself up enough that it didn’t hurt as much as he ran.
This was just embarrassing now.
It was bad enough having her rescuer belittle her.
Having him carry her fireman-style to freedom was making her wish he had left her in her cell.
Warm fresh air assaulted her, as fresh as Hell got anyway, and she looked up to see the huge black walls of the prison fortress bouncing away from her.
“You can put me down now,” she said but he didn’t hear her. Either that or he was ignoring her. She was tempted to punch him on the backside again but gave up and let him have his way.
The jagged towers of the prison slowly wobbled into the distance and were lost from view behind the spires of black rock that lined the path her hero had chosen. Vents in their sides and tops belched hot acrid smoke that stole her breath. She pulled his black t-shirt up, exposing a lean delicious back, and covered her mouth with it. How the hell could he run in this?
Erin wanted to be sick.
She counted the bounces in his step to keep her focus off the horrendous smell of rotten eggs invading her lungs and the increasing number of bleached bones that lined the path as though someone had kicked the bodies out of the way and just let them rot there. Or perhaps some smaller creature had picked the bones clean. There were grooves in some of them, as though sharp teeth and claws had scraped them. Erin hoped it had happened after death and that the screams still ringing in her ears weren’t the death cries of people being eaten alive.
The man managed over three hundred steps before he finally stopped and set her down with surprising care in a wide clearing.
“Are you alright?” He held her at arm’s length, looking her over.
Her blood heated when his dark eyes lingered on her breasts and then the tiny shorts she wore.
“Do you always dress like this?” He raised an eyebrow.
Erin folded her arms across her chest, covering her breasts. The black pebbles of the path cut into the bare soles of her feet. “I was in bed when they took me.”
He ran his gaze over her again and a touch of crimson ringed his dark irises.
Erin took a step backwards.
That had to be a reflection of their fiery surroundings. It had to be.
Mr Tall, Dark and Deadly couldn’t be something straight out of Hell.

Interview with Mason Balfour

I’ve been writing as long as I can recall. I was always the kid in high school that turned writing assignments in a week late, a hundred pages too long and ten times bigger in scale than what was asked for. As for every other subject in school, I sucked. As for the genre... I’ve always loved werewolves and vampires. Other kids loved super heroes, whatever; Transformers. I liked things based in fact or mythology, real-life folklore. I also feel that werewolves are seldom, if ever, given proper literary respect. I read a review of Glen Duncan’s ‘The Last Werewolf’ where his writing of the book was called “literary suicide” or something else like that. The book turned out great, but he was sort of laughed at for wanting to even write it. I got really damned tired of vampires being sexy, wealthy and cool-as-all-Hell while werewolves are always mindless, one-dimensional monsters or dumb dogs. What is it about the paranormal, in particular vampires, that fascinates you so much?
I’ve always been deeply fascinated with the paranormal; cryptozoology, as well. I’ve experienced hauntings and inexplicable things since I was maybe seven or eight years old. I’m fascinated with vampires based on the actual origins of the mythology in contrast to what they’ve become. It was really just due to ignorance regarding the processes of decomposition; escaping gases from a corpse seeming like vocalizations, blood leaking from the mouths, hair and fingernails seeming to grow due to skin protracting. They had no medical knowledge of these things. Mix religion with superstition, toss in a bit of fear-based imagination... you’ve got a vampire. Lately I’m fascinated with the reinvention of the vampire. Don’t get me wrong, I love ‘Twilight’ and a few other stories like ‘Interview With the Vampire’ that explores the reluctant and even sometimes heroic vampire. It’s fun to explore occasionally, but it’s quickly becoming the new template. How long will it be before people forget completely that vampires are dead, parasitic, murderous things? I think the only reason the Edward Cullen and Louis are so compelling is that they are a radical departure, a bold exception to the rules.
What inspired you to write this book?
It sat in my head, in bits and pieces, for years. I think it took rough form during the season of the ‘ER’ television series that dealt with Dr. Mark Green’s last days. I love the show and the character, and the actor, too; Anthony Edwards. I didn’t want to watch him die and I kept thinking of ways to save him. If he were bitten by a vampire or werewolf, that would do it. being partial to werewolves, I went that way. The character of Dr. Carter Wells in ‘TERRITORY’ is very much based on the Mark Green character in many ways. Please tell us about your latest release.
My latest release is ‘TERRITORY Book One: The Red Thunder Clan’. It’s the first of four books that are completed. Parts three and four are in the nit-pick editing phase. It’s the origin story, of course; setting up characters and plot lines, as first installments always do. I was careful however to balance the action and suspense with the informational portion. Who wants a werewolf or vampire book that’s two hundred or more pages of exposition?I have different types of werewolves in the book; different vampires, too. There a three distinct breeds of werewolves, one of those has a subspecies that can not shift back into human form. They’re pure, brutal animal. My vampires walk in sunlight and have the capacity to look fairly human, with a couple aesthetic tricks. But I also have a population afflicted with a disease that slowly kills them, debilitates them mentally and physically. These will burn in sunlight. I did all of this to create an interesting, layered and unique story, but also to cover the bases and try to give ALL fans of the genre something they want and can enjoy. I have no love story exactly, but my characters are well-crafted and complex. There’s love and a multitude of human emotions and interaction. Most of my characters are married, have strong family bonds or have lost someone they love. I just ignored the “burgeoning romance” thing.
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
I do try to create names that sound exotic or period-appropriate when it’s required. For human characters or immortals that aren’t all that old, I combine names of people I know or actors and other celebrities I like or admire. Individual names seldom if ever hold any layered or hidden meanings in my work. Was one of your characters more challenging to write than another?
Yes. Felix Lovell. He’s a vampire and a Shadow-Walker; those diseased guys that explode in the sun. He’s sort of the self-declared, unofficial master of all Shadow-Walkers. He was a Nazi, an SS officer. That’s what made him hard to write. How do you get that point and history across convincingly and in detail without going off into a lot of really evil rhetoric and nasty bullshit that could ruin or change the face of the work entirely? How much is too much, how much is just right... you know?
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
I think I honestly love them all, except for Felix. And with him, I love to hate him. There are qualities and traits in all of them that I enjoy writing.
Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write? It’s different with each character, I think. With main characters, I tend to map out their purpose to the story and build their personality around that; what type of person I think would be shaped by the role in life I’m about to throw them into. With secondary characters I recognize gaps in the story; things that need to be done or need to be said. These are things that maybe a main character would not say or do, so I build characters for these things. I’m still careful however to flesh them out completely. I work hard to avoid one dimensional or disposable characters. What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
That’s a tough question. I don’t know that I have a favorite, but a couple stand out. I really like the prologue. It establishes the nature and temperament of my werewolves right away, and in a unique way. I also like a scene in there where Sophia, one my main vampires, demonstrates real compassion for one of her human girls. She does it in a fierce way of course, like a mother lion. But it’s the first time you see that side of her, and that becomes important later on.
Did you find anything really interesting while researching this or another book?
The disease I used for the Shadow-Walkers. It’s real affliction, incredibly rare, but quite bizarre. It’s called Porphyria.
What is the most interesting thing you have physically done for book related research purposes?
I ran around my yard for about an hour in my socks, on the balls of my feet. I was trying to get a feel for how a werewolf might move; its gate, the bounce... posture. I feel like an ass now. Can we move on?
Can you tell readers a little bit about the world building in the book/series? How does this world differ from our normal world?
It’s set completely in the real world, almost to an exhaustive extent. I really studied the geography of Washington and Oregon. It’s the best place to see these types of creatures or set these types of events; huge, bloody battles that need to go unnoticed by humans.
With the book being part of a series, are there any character or story arcs, that readers jumping in somewhere other than the first book, need to be aware of? Can these books be read as stand alones?
No, they don’t really work as stand-alones. And unfortunately I’m not big a fan of redundancy or call-backs. I don’t do a lot of recapping, unless the introduction of the information was awhile ago and complex.
Do any of your characters have similar characteristics of yourself in them and what are they?
Niven Durraunt, maybe. He’s the Alpha of the Red Thunder Clan. I didn’t do it intentionally, but going back and reading it.... a lot of my personality with regard to my relationship with my sons is in there. I see quite a bit of me in there when he’s dealing with other members of his colony in a leadership capacity.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
No, I never do. I may struggle a bit here and there with how to say something... but I never run out of things to say. My wife hates that, I think.Do you have any weird writing quirks or rituals?
Umm... I don’t think so. At least, I’ve never caught myself doing anything weird before I sit down to write.Do you write in different genres?
Yes. I’m currently re-working a novel I published over a decade ago. I was never happy with it. It was too “artsy” and pretentious. It’s steampunk, sort of... I guess. Sort of like a Tim Burton, ‘Sweeny Todd’ vibe set in the future. Maybe it’s actually reverse steampunk then? It’s definitely weird. I love that about it.
Do you find it difficult to write in multiple genres?
No. I find it to be a lot of fun, and very useful as a mental exercise. It keeps me from getting tired of anything.... getting overloaded from the monotony.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
Around 1991. I think that’s when I consciously thought, “Yes, I want to do this professionally.” I originally wanted to break into comic books. I was too thick-headed to realize you were supposed to write stories and create art based on very popular, well-established characters. I was doing my own completely original stuff. I gave that up and took a script I liked and expanded on it. That became ‘A Tiny Thread’; my first published novel. What are your guilty pleasures in life?
I like a lot of things people wouldn’t expect me to like. I’m told that I should feel guilty for some of the stuff I like; Twilight, Fried Green Tomatoes, Lady Ga Ga, Steel Magnolias, Titanic.... I don’t feel guilty about any of it.
Other than writing, what are some of your interests, hobbies or passions in life?
Movies. I love movies. I sculpt, too. I really enjoyed building my website. I didn’t expect to, but I did. I might try to do a bit of that free-lance or something.
What was the last amazing book you read?
I recently re-read ‘Tale of the Body Thief’. I love that book. I’m about to read a book by Lovecraft I’ve had forever and never read... ‘The Shuttered Room’.
Where is your favorite place to read? Do you have a cozy corner or special reading spot?
Anywhere outdoors.
What can readers expect next from you?
The next three books in the TERRITORY series and maybe two more of those. The ‘Tiny Thread’ rewrite; don’t have an official new title yet.
Where can readers find you on the web?
On my website, www.territorybooks.com I’m on Facebook, too and I have a blog. They’re linked on my site.
Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
Of course! This an excerpt from chapter 7 of The Red Thunder Clan. Enjoy... Derik was following something else, too; laughter. Yes, it was laughter and it came from the same direction as the commingled and offensive stench. He ascended a massive tree overlooking the area he sought with an astonishing and graceful motion and impossible speed; a virile house cat chasing a squirrel up a tree. He perched quietly in the cover of the thick leaves of the highest branches.
He could see a couple, a man and woman in their mid twenties, perhaps. They held hands as they walked; laughing as they spoke of this and that and of nothing in particular or of importance to the First-Breed who watched them in silence. They were dressed in jeans and brand new, brightly colored Eastman jackets and new hiking boots, all of which seemed as if it had only just arrived in the mail from a J. Crew catalog; two people clearly out of their element and out of sorts, perhaps part of a group from the campground a mile or so to the north, or so Derik supposed this from the smell of a particular perfume he had also detected on another young woman at the campsite he had observed earlier that morning from the edge of the forest.
The scent of the tainted werewolf intruded again and Freak could see it just beyond the tree line to the north; crouched in the brush and inching silently forward in the couple’s direction. It was very typical in appearance and behavior for a Second-Breed non-shifter. Its length was roughly that of an average man, though it was on all fours just now. It was massive at the chest and shoulders; thickly gnarled muscle flowing into a massive neck and broad head that gave the whole of its upper body the appearance of a single massive and indistinguishable knot of muscle and filthy, tangled dark fur. Its body was very slender from the ribcage down; the exaggerated build of a greyhound. Its legs were thick and powerful but with much shorter forelegs than those of First-Breeds. Its paws were massive and broad with heavy blood-stained claws. It had the human-like hands of First-Breeds, with long heavy claws on four of the fingers; a shorter claw on the thumb.
Its face was broad with a long muzzle and large black nose that flexed excitedly as it tracked the couple’s position from its place in the thick brush. Its large yellow eyes glowed with anticipation of the kill under its thick and furrowed brow; its elongated and pointed ears lay flat against its head in the attack position. Dark matted fur crested its forehead between its ears in a dramatic and sharp peak and flowed down over its shoulders and back and crested its heavy jaw like a wild beard that dragged in the brush and mud produced by the heavy rain of the region. Its skin was dark and mottled; an almost camouflaged pattern of dark human flesh tone and pitch black.
The werewolf lowered itself even closer to the ground, digging its massive rear claws deep into the soil and sprang forward from the brush toward the young man and woman; a terrible freight train shredding earth and foliage as it closed on the couple with impossible speed. They turned toward the sound and froze with horror and confusion at what they saw, unable to move or to even breathe; trembling violently and uncontrollably.
People always think that they will respond instantly in these moments; lightning-quick actions triggered by that primal fight-or-flight impulse. Or maybe they imagine they would scream; scream out with terror as they come to understand what they’ve seen before fleeing. But this rarely happens, hardly ever; it doesn’t work like that. The fact is people freeze in such a situation. When confronted with the impossible, standing in the shadow of what we’re taught does not exist, we freeze; the mind stammers like a computer struggling to process too much information and it just freezes and tires to sort it; to comprehend the incomprehensible. They froze in this manner, the man and woman; rooted to the ground wide-eyed, slack-jawed and confused as that primal response screamed at them to run without question or hesitation while the more evolved and intellectual mind struggled to make sense of it all.
The creature roared now; an unimaginable sound like a tiger’s roar blended with a deep human scream; a terrifying sound like nothing they had ever heard. It was almost on them now, extending its massive arms out in front like an Olympic diver as it came off the ground and sailed through the air like a missile in what seemed like slow motion.
There was little Derik could do now and he knew it; knew it in a way that left a sour taste in his mouth. They had seen it now, this massive werewolf that was not supposed to exist. Random and brief encounters with humans were not uncommon and easily washed away in a jaded and dismissive world but an attack such as this could not be dismissed so easily, nor could a fight between two such creatures should Derik intervene. He could do nothing but let it happen, let this non-shifter kill these humans or be resigned to kill them himself.
The woman finally screamed then as her boyfriend stepped uselessly in front of her and was torn down in a thick spray of blood, washing over the woman’s face and chest as she was thrown violently aside by the impact. The man had not even had a chance to react fully, simply stepping in front of her in a confused and instinctive state. He had suffered little, despite the horror of it all. The impact alone had killed him almost at once, leaving the beast to feed at leisure; unburdened by a struggling victim.
The woman watched and that was all she could do; soaked in blood, wide-eyed as her lips trembled as if trying to form words or to even find a voice with which to scream. As she watched in horror that terrible, impossible thing had stripped her boyfriend Andy’s body down to bare, blood-stained bone; a hollow and unrecognizable carcass to which his badly torn face was attached. She found her voice then and screamed with such ferocity that it seemed even for a moment to startle the massive animal as it turned in her direction, its jaws and teeth draped in bloody flesh from the corpse that lay steaming at its feet in the chilly morning air. It abandoned its meal for a moment and charged her then as she rose up, screaming and ran toward the tree line. With its belly full it was a bit slower now; less aggressive and driven by a need for flesh. It sprang forward suddenly and punched its long, broad fangs through the woman’s shoulder and drove her down; the pain silencing her as she again lost her voice with the shock of it all.
Something crashed into the beast then; something massive and powerful that let out the same unbelievable roar as the werewolf had.
It was another werewolf, very similar to the first in several ways but very distinctly different. They slammed hard into the trunk of a nearby tree with a deafening crack as even the highest branches trembled from the impact and showered the clearing with Fall leaves and splintered bark.
The first werewolf sailed awkwardly through the air suddenly in an end-over-end fashion as if it had been thrown. It landed head-first in the bright green moss of the forest floor, throwing up a blanket of wet earth and the bright moss. It was on its feet now, shaking its head to clear the effects of the violent impact; standing upright on its massive and powerful hind legs but only briefly; it did not seem capable of sustaining this posture to any effect. It moved on all fours in a cautious half-circle, as did the other one; sizing each other up and preparing for attack. Derik crouched suddenly into a four-legged stance as well now; a defensive posture to protect vital organs.
He charged the non-shifter now and drove it hard into the ground amidst another shower of earth, moss and debris. They were grappling ferociously now; a lightning-speed tangle of teeth and claws and loudly snapping jaws as they roared violently; each struggling to gain the upper hand, two massive and powerful machines clashing over and over again; shredding the terrain around them and shaking the ground with each impact.
They toppled from one side of the clearing to another, smashing the trees and upsetting large boulders that rolled out toward the clearing. The air had become filled with the brown and orange leaves of the trees; shaken from their branches and sent adrift like huge flakes of brown and orange snow.
Derik was thrown back violently now and twisted through the air. But he did not land awkwardly as the non-shifter had; instead he twisted over with fluid grace and landed with one massive paw on a large boulder which he instantly used to his advantage, propelling himself forward; his impossible claws cutting into the very stone as he did so. He struck the non-shifter in an unexpected way and gained the advantage for which he had fought. As they slammed again into the ground Derik managed to get his jaws around the head of the Second-Breed and snapped his neck with a swift and deafening crack.
The woman watched as it fell to the ground, limp and motionless as the other stood triumphantly in a wide stance, breathing heavily through its massive nostrils like a wild, powerful horse. She watched him, speechless and confused, as the massive creature with its beautiful patch-work fur, splattered and streaked with the spilled blood of both creatures, changed shape quickly and fluidly before her startled eyes; changed into a tall lean man with a bright red Mohawk and several tattoos over his pale, muscular form.
There was nothing he could do but watch her die as he knelt beside her silently and held her hand. She had bled out almost completely; the wet, leaf-covered ground beneath her dark and slick with blood that steamed slightly in the cold. It was fast, at least; mercifully quick, he thought as he watched her draw one final deep and ragged breath before going limp and motionless.

Guest Blog and This Blackened Night Giveaway with L.K. Below

2 Days until the release of This Blackened Night, The Order: Book 3!
Every author has a set of characters more dear to their hearts than any others. In most cases, this stems from these characters being among the first ever created. I won't claim Lori and Terrence were my very first, but they did come close. Their first book, Stalking Shade, which released in 2011, was originally written in 2007. And rewritten. And rewritten.
And now it feels like a dear friend is moving away. With the release of This Blackened Night on September 24th, 2012, the trilogy will come to an end. Lori might be a prickly character, not easy for anyone but Terrence to love, but I had a lot of fun with her. When I wrote this third book late last year, I dragged my feet to see it finished for the same reason. I didn't want to let the pair of them go. A not-so-secret part of me is hoping for an overwhelming response from readers asking me to continue so I have an excuse to revisit my favorite characters.
For now, I'm counting down the days until the third book releases. Maybe you'll fall in love with Lori and Terrence every bit as fiercely as I have. Lori might be stubborn in pushing people away, but Terrence is the most persistent character I've ever written. Good thing, too.
Join me in celebrating the release of the third book a bit early with this short, sweet teaser excerpt:

With murders cropping up all around, who should she trust?
After months of searching, Lori finally scrounges up a clue as to the whereabouts of the missing leader of her secret organization. But her vision isn't encouraging--it points to her vampire companion Terrence as the culprit.
Terrence is adamant that he isn't at fault. Even though she knows she might be walking into a trap, she follows his lead to a shabby island port. When her informants start turning up dead with puncture wounds in their necks, Lori wonders just how well she knows Terrence. And why does he act different during the search than in their hotel room?
Lori doesn't know who to trust anymore. She only hopes that she won't be the next victim.
Seven Sweet Sentences from the book:
He lingered above her body, his face and torso only inches from hers and slowly closing in. His lips parted to reveal the tips of his fangs. Lori shivered as he traced the sensitive skin under her ear with his thumb. The rough pad sensitized her skin even further. Their breaths mated, like she knew he longed to do with their bodies. For a second, she almost gave in.
Then she remembered what he’d done.

Sky Purington’s Paranormal Investigating Results (Part One)

Sky Purington’s Paranormal Investigating Results (Part One)
Thanks so much for having me over again! As many know, I’ve been chatting about the inspiration behind my Calum’s Curse Trilogy as I’ve traveled along my Bewitching Book Tour. So what was my source of inspiration? None other than my very own haunted Victorian.
I thought to mix it up a little this time. Instead of sharing more of the numerous paranormal events I’ve witnessed since moving in eleven years ago, I’m going to tell you about some of the results I’ve had upon investigating. You see, I not only write about ghost hunters but I’ve done a bit of hunting myself. After all, they say you should write what you know!
By investigating, I’ve learned first-hand what it feels like to get an actual response from an unseen entity. So far I’ve had several responses during multiple investigations. But I’m not all that surprised considering how active this house has been in the past.
In that it’s fairly lengthy, I’ve decided to make this a two-part post that shares the results from my investigations. The first part will be here today at Fang-tastic Books, the other, tomorrow at Kay Dee Royal’s Blog. They will be devoted not to the ‘bumps in the night’ but what (or should I say who) I believe is causing them.

On to the spooky stuff!
My first time attempting to contact ‘the other side’ was in early September, 2011. While you might’ve expected me to choose nighttime, I opted to try it at 3 O’clock in the afternoon. Why? It was one of those rare times that I was home alone.
With baited breath and EMF detector in hand, I stood in the hallway on the second floor. Silly as it might sound, I began by introducing myself in a clear, concise voice. I suppose a few of you are thinking, “Um, isn’t it safe to assume the ghost already knows who you are?” Yes, probably. But it seemed like the best way to do it. To my mind, those in the afterlife should be treated as politely and with as much respect as I’d treat any living person I’d just met. I explained what the EMF detector was and how I believed it might be a tool in with which they could communicate. I even explained how I thought they might be able to manipulate it using energy. I tried not to overthink the fact that I was asking something supernatural to get so close to me!
Five minutes went by. No response. Honestly, even though I knew the house was haunted, I didn’t think I’d receive a response my first time. In the middle of the afternoon, no less.
But I did.
I’ll never forget the moment I watched the motionless needle first leap in response to a question. I gripped the detector with two hands and forced myself not to shake. Deep, even breathes were the key to remaining calm.
So what question invoked an answer? Pretty basic. I asked, “Are you the man who built this house?” The meter spiked to five then dropped back to zero. Naturally, I assumed it might be my husband’s great-grandfather who built the house for his wife in 1901. So I asked, “Is this Richard?” (leaving off the last name for the sake of the family’s privacy). No response. I asked several more times. Still no response. Again I asked, “Is this the man who built this house?” This time the meter shot up to seven then dropped to zero. Suddenly it occurred to me, Richard had not built the house himself… he’d hired workers!
I communicated with this spirit for fifteen more minutes. Please join me tomorrow at Kay Dee Royal’s blog (http://www.kaydeeroyal.blogspot.com) where I’ll be sharing the rest of what I found out during my investigations.
Have you ever investigated the paranormal? Do you want to? Share!

Why should eating disorder afflict only humans? Guest Blog and Giveaway with Annie Nichols
Pia Blyton, succubus in Lake City, has trouble having one night stands. She wishes she could be more like her sisters and jump any male they like, but she’s developed a conscience. Her race considers it an eating disorder since it prevents her from feeding freely.
I loved writing this book! Getting inside a succubus’ head as she longs for love when everyone of her race thinks she’s off her rocker. LOL Her father is very worried about her because when Pia was in college she fell in love with a human and almost starved to death trying to be faithful to him. He doesn’t want her to repeat those mistakes and has set-up suitors for Pia.
Suitors are like steady boyfriends but without the emotional attachment. They agree to this arrangement and know it will be canceled if she starts falling for any of them. Pia has a say in choosing her suitors but the constant watching is starting to chaff…

After almost dying of starvation to remain faithful to a mortal lover, succubus Pia Blyton now shields her heart by feeding solely on men she won't fall for. The only trick is, to create energy to survive, she must achieve orgasm. At least that rules out bad sex with her three lovers. Too bad she's a sucker for falling in love.
When her demon lover doesn't arrive for their arranged rendezvous, Pia is forced to ask her vampire lover to step in before her energy becomes dangerously low. In return he demands a favor and Pia finds herself in the hotel suite of the mysterious Valerio Hunan, who seduces her with a devastating kiss. Too late Pia learns he's an incubus who wants to lure her into marriage—a marriage without love.
As an incubus used to bedding a variety of succubi, Val doesn't understand Pia's yearning for love. He needs a succubus wife to provide him with a steady source of energy. But he wantsPia for the passion and renewed interest in life she makes him feel. Can Pia convince Val that sex isn't just for survival and love is for more than the weak?
Excerpt:
I wouldn’t call our home a mansion. When I thought of such places, I imagined sparkling clean rooms with immaculate furniture and servants following us with trays of snacks. We could live like that—my father was a very successful lawyer and head incubus of the city—but we lived like normal people.
Overstuffed couches crowded the living room along with a TV and gaming system. I nudged a remote out of my path as I strolled farther into the house, past the nicked table in the dining room with our height charts penciled on the wall from when we were kids. My name remained the lowest on the list since I had never hit a real growth spurt.
Knocking on the study door, I waited for permission to enter. Once, I’d walked in on an intimate moment and witnessed more bared flesh than I’d ever cared to see from my parents. Years later, I still couldn’t scrub the horrid image from my brain. Lesson learned the hard way.
“Come in,” my father called. He sat on the leather sofa facing the hearth. The fire crackled and heated the room to perfection. “Pia.” He held his arms out as if I were still five.
On any other day, I’d sit next to him and give him a stern look. Not today. I raced to them and leaned into the embrace.
He grunted at the impact. “Hey, what’s wrong, baby girl?”
The warmth of his arms and the love in his voice cracked my delicate façade of external composure. I buried my face against his chest and inhaled the scent of wood smoke and clean cotton. Tears burned behind my eyelids but I crushed them down. The last thing I needed to do was send my daddy on a tirade against an incubus he’d obviously invited to his city. “Nothing, I just had a rough day.” I faced him with a weak smile and handed him the vial, which he set on the side table without a glance.
Pursing his lips, he gave me a scowl. “I heard John left you in a bind. I shouldn’t have let you convince me into agreeing to a contract with him. Demons are never reliable and as your suitor he has a responsibility to—”
“Why is Valerio Hunan in town?”
He made a disgruntled noise in his throat. “How do you know about him?”
“Never mind how.” I still had a littledignity left. “Why didn’t you invite me to meet him like Rose and Adele?”
“I didn’t think it wise. He’s looking for another wife and you’re not ready for marriage. Not to an incubus like Val. Your sisters, on the other hand, are.” He shrugged. “He’s not interested in either of them, which is a shame. He has a lot of business contacts and could help draw more work to the city, but there are other succubi in the area, and I granted him hunting rights. They’re coming from all over.”
I scrunched my nose at the idea. What was so special about him? My father had refused other incubi’s inquiries about my sisters. Maybe about me, too? “It would be nice if you’d consult me on decisions concerning my future. I’d like to have some input. Sometimes I wonder if I’ll wake one morning to find a wedding reception waiting for me. When will you loosen the leash around my neck?” I tried so hard to be what Flynn Blyton wanted in a daughter, but my emotional survival balanced on a tightrope, one that wobbled constantly.

The Tudor Revival Short Excerpt:
Seth crossed his arms over his chest. “Are you mad at me about something?”
Alana studied his face for a moment before she said, “I suppose I am.”
“What?”
“Are you serious?”
He nodded. “Obviously.”
Crossing her arms over her chest, she said, “You died then you haunted me.” She nodded toward the house. “Then you brought all this with you.”
“Ah.” She still maintained that feistiness he enjoyed. Seth grinned. “Yeah, sorry about all that.”
Alana frowned. “You’re not sorry in the least.”
“Nope.”
“Then why say that you are?”
“I don’t know. To see you get fired up?”
She inhaled deeply through her nostrils. “I would’ve thought that death would’ve had more of an effect on you, Seth.” Alana pushed away from the rock and walked toward the house.
“What do you mean by that?” He walked after her. “And wouldn’t you rather death didn’t change me?”
Alana stopped so quickly that he nearly walked into her. Face red with anger she pointed a finger at his chest and said, “You needed some adjustments!”
Something about the fire in her eyes and the liquid heat of her tone set off his anger as well. Hell yeah, he needed some adjustments and knew right where to start. Before she knew what hit her, Seth pulled her into his arms.
And made his first adjustment.

What Does My Office Look Like? Guest blog with Shari Richardson

What Does My Office Look Like?
What a fun question to answer! Very few things in my life are conventional and I must say that my “office” is definitely one of those unconventional things. My office literally consists of my iPad, a Bluetooth keyboard, and a flat surface. Optional, but still important elements include headphones and an iced coffee.
When I had an office in my home, I had to put a sign on my door to keep my ex-husband out when I was writing, but inevitably he would interrupt me. I learned, then, that to be productive, I must take my office on the road.
I’ve written entire books at the tables in coffee shops and books stores. My current favorite place is the tiny Starbucks around the corner from my house. The staff knows what I drink and where I like to sit. They make my iced coffee perfectly and no one bothers me. They let me sit, pump me full of caffeine, and wish me a good day when my fanny falls asleep and I decide it’s time to move on.
While Starbucks might be my favorite office, my actual office is really one of convenience. I keep my iPad and keyboard in my purse at all times. I’ve been known to pull them out and work for a few minutes here and there whenever a free moment presents itself. I’ve never been good at keeping a notebook around for ideas, but since I got my first iPad, I’ve never been without it when I needed to write something. Since I added my iPhone to the tech stash, my options have opened even further. I can quite literally write anywhere, anytime, and any way I find productive.
Well, that was my little window to show you all my erratic writing behavior and environment. I hope you find the right office and remember: No matter where you are, Hands On Keys, Typing Away Madly is the only way to tell your tale.

Book Description:
I felt a familiar ripple and knew it was too late for me. I saw her, so tiny, so perfect and I knew that I could die content. When Xavier admitted his love for me, I was complete.
Kerry Cote's story may sound familiar, but it's not. Sure there are a lot of unmarried, pregnant teenagers in the world, but how many of them know the child they carry is a miracle? How many have a vampire body guard? How many are alone because the mother of us all and the father of all vampires has a jealous daughter who covets the baby's father? Kerry must survive to bring her child into the world, for if she fails, humanity may not survive.
Books 1-4 Highland Home Series

I should have known when he walked into my life that things would never be the same. Hadn't I dreamed of him and the things he'd done before I was born? If only he weren't so fascinating, so beautiful, so much more than any other guy. Maybe then I could walk away.
Mairin Cote is a magnet for weird. Her dreams come true, she can see auras and her mother is in love with an angel. Now the monsters are finding her too. Vampires, demigods and werepanthers have flocked to this small town girl who must find a way to keep her family safe, love the man of her dreams, and navigate the shark-infested waters of Highland Home High School.

My first kiss was going to be my last, but it was worth it. His cool lips, his sweet taste, they were my salvation. I would never regret it, no matter what happened.
Mairin Cote thought loving a vampire was hard, but losing him to others of his kind was worse. When the death toll in East Hampton points to a rampaging vampire, the vampires and werepanthers must form an uneasy alliance to stop the destruction. To save the love of her life, Mairin must decide if living life without Mathias is worth risking an eternity with him.

The pain was sharp and deep, but it was nothing compared to the anguish in Xavier's eyes. I wanted to tell him I would be okay, but the words wouldn't come. The pain kept them at bay and even if I could have spoken, I knew the words would be a lie.
Kerry Cote has a pretty normal life for a teenager. Of course normal is a relative term. Her sister dates a vampire and her boyfriend turns furry once a month, but that's not the problem. It isn't until she meets the father of the man she loves that her whole existence narrows to a mere seven days.

Eternity. How many times since Mathias came into my life had I considered it? Had I not taken risks that would have left us together for eternity? What I hadn't expected was to have the choice taken from us. Vampires are independent creatures and the old ones definitely don't like being bound to a human. When an ancient vampire comes to Highland Home bent on Mairin's destruction so he can free himself from his bond to her, Mathias is forced to choose between what he is and who he wishes to be.

Shari Richardson holds a master's degree in English Education and has spent much of her life teaching students the joy of reading and writing. Her love of writing began when she was in elementary school and has carried through her entire adult life. Shari lives in Pennsylvania with her two Chihuahuas.

A Quick Guide to the Major Characters of Clean Guest blog By Alex Hughes
Hero (Nameless until end of book): Tall, lanky, sallow, brilliant but flawed, he’s a highly competent telepath who’s very good at his job, although he still struggles to stay on the wagon. He’s his own worst enemy, but he has a strong system of ethics and he gets personal satisfaction from doing his job well.
Detective Isabella Cherabino:Curvy and striking with long hair, Cherabino has a confident way of moving that comes from her martial arts training. She’s brittle and cranky to the hero, a workaholic with a tragic past and a bit of a loner. But she has the highest close rate in the department and isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty.
Lieutenant Paulsen: A strong sixty-something policewoman and leader with a dark complexion and soft wrinkles, Paulsen is willing to make waves to get the job done. She runs the largest section of her police department with a shrinking budget and increasing crime, and she does it well.
Swartz: A thirty-year veteran of Narcotics Anonymous, Swartz has been helping others stay clean for decades. He has a deep patience, a no-tolerance approach to bullshit, and a quiet wisdom he’ll share whenever the situation calls for it.
Kara: Tall, blond, and thin, she was the main character’s fiancé until she betrayed him to the Guild years ago. Now she works as the Guild’s main liason to the Atlanta police and public.
Bellury: Overweight, even-tempered, and well past retirement age, Bellury babysits the main character in the interview rooms. He gives advice on how best to legally threaten suspects, and he makes sure the main character has everything he needs to do his job well.
The Killer: A person who has been leaving bodies around the city in plain sight, without an apparent cause of death. He (or she) seems to have a personal connection to the main character – and is killing faster lately, and with more brutality.
Read Clean to follow these characters – and to meet Bransen, Bob, Michael, Andrew, Piccanonni, Clark, and more. It’s a big world out there, and even a telepath needs help along the way.

I used to work for the Telepath’s Guild before they kicked me out for a drug habit that wasn’t entirely my fault. Now I work for the cops, helping Homicide Detective Isabella Cherabino put killers behind bars.
My ability to get inside the twisted minds of suspects makes me the best interrogator in the department. But the normals keep me on a short leash. When the Tech Wars ripped the world apart, the Guild stepped up to save it. But they had to get scary to do it—real scary.
Now the cops don’t trust the telepaths, the Guild doesn’t trust me, a serial killer is stalking the city—and I’m aching for a fix. But I need to solve this case. Fast. I’ve just had a vision of the future: I’m the next to die.

Book Description:
One year ago, two bullets from a .45 caliber pistol ripped away any hopes Dillan had of a future with her fiancé, Jamie. On the anniversary of Jamie’s death, the appearance of his estranged twin brother, Trey, leaves Dillan wondering what other secrets her prefect fiancé was hiding. When Trey learns of his brother’s death, Dillan takes pity on him and gives him a place to stay.
Trey’s erratic behavior and a series of suspicious phone calls lead Dillan to believe that Trey knows more about the circumstances surrounding Jamie’s death than he’s letting on. With all leads exhausted and Jamie’s murderer still on the loose, Trey is Dillan’s last hope for finding the truth.
Sometimes the truth hurts… but in Dillan’s case it could kill her.

J.A Howell is an office drone by day, and a writer by night. Her love of writing took off when she was eleven years old and decided to fill a composition notebook with stories to read to her friends. Many years (and notebooks) later, not much has changed. She still loves writing and sharing her works with others. When she isn’t writing, she can often be found trying her hand at whatever artistic pursuit strikes her fancy. J.A. Howell resides in Apopka, FL with her husband and their menagerie of animal children.
