That's a great question. The short answer is: it depends.

For me, from start to finish, a book takes at least a year and multiple revisions before I'm even ready to send it out to my publishers. Then, once it's been acquired, there are usually at least three more rounds of edits: developmental edits, where we work on the meat of the story; line edits, where things get a bit more picky; and copy edits, where it's all about spelling, grammar, and punctuation. So far, my books are averaging two to three years from first draft to publication (but I'm not editing that entire time; I have multiple projects going at once, all at different stages, and I shift back and forth).(less)

“Google can bring you back 100,000 answers. A librarian can bring you back the right one.”
Neil Gaiman

“If you want to write, if you want to create, you must be the most sublime fool that God ever turned out and sent rambling. You must write every single day of your life. You must read dreadful dumb books and glorious books, and let them wrestle in beautiful fights inside your head, vulgar one moment, brilliant the next. You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads. I wish you a wrestling match with your Creative Muse that will last a lifetime. I wish craziness and foolishness and madness upon you. May you live with hysteria, and out of it make fine stories — science fiction or otherwise. Which finally means, may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.”
Ray Bradbury

“I want you to believe...to believe in things that you cannot.”
Bram Stoker, Dracula

Maybe NA would be better...I'm thinking the female characters would be about 17-25, while the males would be 21-27 (or so). Definitely a "Selection" flavor to it.

Dayanara Ryelle Maybe you've already answered this in another blog or on a tour, but what does it mean to write YA? I have an idea that seems very YA-ish, but I don't write in that genre, so I really don't know what to do with it...?
