Guest blog and Giveaway with Angie Fox

Whenever I go back to visit, some of my professors like to tease me about how I don’t really use my degree. Because writing about vampires, werewolves and things that go bump in the night isn’t “real” writing. According to them, at least.
And I suppose I can sort of understand where they’re coming from. I spent all those years learning how to present news facts, only to turn around and make things up for a living. Of course, I like to remind them that they actually have to wear shoes to work.
Flash forward to this new series. Immortally Yours is about a group of paranormal MASH surgeons. It takes place in and around the MASH 3063rd during a centuries-long supernatural war. And while the hero is a tough-as-nails wounded warrior and the heroine is the doctor who saves him (in more ways than one), we still need coverage of what is happening outside the camp.
Enter PNN: the Paranormal News Network. It’s the supernatural version of CNN, well, with a few fanged, horned, and other exceptions. And while PNN offers a steadying presence in the book, the news reporting often borders on the sensational. It’s my book, I can do what I want, right?

Check out PNN at www.PNN-Network.com.
Comment below with the headline of your favorite PNN story and you’re entered to win an autographed copy of Immortally Yours!

But when one sexy immortal ends up on her operating table—half dead and totally to-die-for—Petra’s afraid she’ll lose her patient and her heart…
NOTHING IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN LOVE
Commander Galen of Delphi is one gorgeous but stubborn demi-god. When his spirit tries to slip out of his fatally wounded body, Dr. Petra has to slip it back in—unwittingly revealing her ability to see ghosts. Now that Galen knows her secret, he’s convinced she’s part of an ancient prophecy. If the oracles are right, Petra could lead Galen’s army to peace. And if he seduces her on the way to hell and back? Heaven knows—all’s fair in love and war…

Betrayal by ML GuidaChapter One
In her pink nightgown and barefoot, she stood on a rough pebbly ground. A harsh male voice said, “Now, you’ll know what true pain is.” The red-eyed man glared at her with undaunted hatred. Her foot rooted on the black tar pavement. Her legs trembled. She shrunk from his glare and wanted to hide, but couldn’t move.
Sweating and moaning, twenty-five year old Heather Bowen tossed and turned on her queen sized bed. The dream faded, and she woke with a start. Perspiration drenched her night gown, and tears streaked her face. The sheets wrapped around her legs. Her thighs throbbed. The iPod alarm clock read three a.m. She scanned the room, but there was no sign of the red-eyed man. She sighed, but her relief was short-lived. What did he mean by she would know true pain? Was he kidding? Seriously? Her life sucked. In her dream, there was something familiar about the bright and buzzing green, red and white flickering lights. But what? She frowned. Gas. She had smelled gasoline in her dream. Oh, shit. 7-Eleven. The bastard was with Rosemary. She flicked on the lamp and snatched her phone and dialed Rosemary’s cellular. Answer, answer, answer, but a recording came on-- “The number you have reached is…”“Damn it,” Heather said. Why did Rosemary have to have such a piece of crap phone? She called information.“This is information,” a bored female voice said. “City and State, please.”“Westminster, Colorado for 7-Eleven on Seventy-Second and Lowell.”“I’m sorry I don’t have a listing for that address.”“What?”“I’m sorry, ma’am,” the operator said, “but there’s no listing.”“Fuck,” Heather slammed the phone onto the oak nightstand. She jumped out of bed. She tore off her Minnie nightgown and gasped. Three long scratches marred her inner thighs. She winced and wobbled to the bathroom and wet a wash cloth, and dabbed the bloody river on her legs. How the hell did that happen? God, her legs looked like Freddy Krueger swiped her with his razor fingers.Within minutes, she slid into her gray Pathfinder. “Ouch!”The damn cloth seats pulled on her thighs that still pulsed from the antiseptic. She stepped on the gas. The street lamps glowed in the darkness, and the abandoned street stretched forever as her tires ate up the pavement. She glanced at the clock. Three fifteen. She gripped the wheel and turned on Kipling Street and roared down the road. At the stoplight, there were no cars, including cop cars, so she gunned the pedal. “Hang on Rosemary. I’m coming.” Except for her speeding SUV, the dark houses remained quiet on the empty streets. With his fluffy tail curved around his body, a red fox sat on the sidewalk and watched. She shook her finger at him. “You stay there.” Maybe this was a good omen. In animal symbolism, a red fox meant passion and desire and, God knows, she wanted her sister alive. She peeled onto Seventy-Second avenue, running another stoplight. Huge green cottonwood trees reached for the sky along the way. Lilium, orange pixie lilies, and long ornamental grasses with whitish plumes lined the vacant street. At the end of the street, a streetlight darkened at Majestic Park. Hidden in the shadows was a car. As she sped by, red lights flashed on.“Shit, no!”Out of the black shadows and thick trees, a dark car pulled out of a parking lot. A siren screamed into the night. A red light flared in her rearview mirror. Her stretched nerves wailed louder than the siren. For a split second, she thought about outrunning the cop, but that only happened in television. She parked next to the curve and reached into the glove compartment and fumbled for her registration and insurance card. She yanked out her driver’s license and rolled down the window, but no movement came out of the cop car behind her. “Get out asshole.”She slapped her information on the wheel and glanced at the clock again--three thirty am. A dark clothed policeman got out of the police car and sauntered over to Heather. His hat hid his features. He put his hand on the top of her car. “Ma’am,” he said. He had a baby face, clean shaven, and looked like he’d just graduated from high school. “Do you know how fast you were going?”“Um, no.”He stood and puffed out his chest. “You were going sixty miles an hour in a forty mile zone.”“This is my first ticket in a long time.” She gave him her sweetest smile. “I promise I won’t speed anymore. I’m in a…” He scowled at her and in a cold voice said, “Uh, uh. Driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance card, please.”Well that didn’t work, but what did she expect? Flirting and acting like a vixen had never been her strong suit. Heather sighed and handed him the information. “You don’t understand. I tried calling my sister’s cellular phone and she didn’t answer. This never happens. Something’s wrong.”He put his hands on his narrow waist. “That doesn’t give you a right to speed, ma’am.” “Listen please…”He sighed. “Where is your sister?”“She’s working at the 7-Eleven on Seventy-Second and Lowell. Could you call and check it out?”He crossed his arms across his chest. “That’s Westminster, not Arvada.”“I know what city it’s in.” She gripped the steering wheel tighter. “Could you give me an escort?” He sighed. “So, tell me again why something’s wrong?”“I had a dream and…”He rolled his eyes. “A dream? You want me to radio Westminster Police Department, because of a supposed dream.” He unfolded his arms and leaned closer to the window. He sniffed. “Have you been drinking?” “No, I haven’t. Please I need to…”He stood. “You’ll wait here until I check this out.” He stormed back to his car. Heather gritted her teeth. Sweat poured down her face and she wiped her forehead and temples on her arm. Asshole. “Please…”“Wait, here, ma’am,” he said and sauntered back to car. She looked in the mirror as the cop sat in his car and spoke on the radio. She should have lied about the dream and came up with a different excuse. Should have lied. She pounded on the steering wheel with her palms. “What are you doing? Sending my information to the FBI? Give me the ticket already.”Heather snatched her cellular phone and dialed Rosemary again, but got the same damn message. “If you have reached…”She threw the phone on the passenger seat. “Shit, shit, shit.” The cop strolled over to her and handed her the information. He scratched on a pad.“Did you call Westminster?”“On a dream? No.” At the finality in his voice, Heather shut her mouth and her shoulders slumped. “Ma’am, despite your good driving record, I’m writing you a ticket. You can either mail in the fee or attend court. I need you to sign this.”Heather took the metal board with her ticket on it. She scribbled her name and mumbled, “Thanks.”“Slow down before you kill somebody,” he warned. The cop ripped off the carbon copy and handed it to her. He ambled back to his car. Slowly, Heather drove away from the curb. At the next stop light, the cop pulled behind her. Her heart pattered, and she licked her lip. She drummed her thumbs on the wheel. Her shirt stuck to her like a second skin. Glancing in the rearview mirror, she groaned. God, was he going to follow her all the way to Lowell? As the light turned green, Heather tightened her grip on the wheel, but kept her foot from slamming to the floor. The cop swerved around and did a u-turn--no doubt returning to the dark shadows waiting for his next victim. She glanced at the clock--three forty-five. Shit, fifteen minutes passed.“It’s a coincidence,” she muttered. When Heather couldn’t see Baby Face Nelson anymore, she floored it again and ran the light at Wadsworth. She sped and flew through more red lights. She didn’t care. Rosemary was in trouble. Luckily, she didn’t see any red lights twirling behind her again, but in front of her, her worst nightmare came true. Her heart skipped a beat. Cop cars, ambulances, fire trucks and a bus were all bunched together at Seventy-Second and Lowell. Red flares lit up the west-bound lane and only the east-bound lane was open, but no traffic approached the intersection at this late hour. She swerved the SUV into a parking lot in a small mini mall. Tires squealed. She grabbed the gear shift and slammed it into park. The SUV lurched forward and banged into the white parking stop at Carol’s Donut Shop. She whipped open the door and ran around the building, but she caught a quick movement of a black flicker in the alleyway. For some reason, she was drawn to the shadows and stepped into the alley. The smell of fried dough and something overly sweet emitted from the trash bin next to the back door of Carol’s Donut Shop. She held her breath as heavy footsteps crunched on pebbles and glass. She put her hand to her throat as the dark haired man came around the trash bin behind the donut shop. Her feet rooted her to the street. Fear prevented her from moving a single muscle. His long, thick braid fell down his right shoulder. He put his hands on his narrow hips. His black leather jacket parted and revealed a chiseled chest. On his naked chest, a black cobra with red coral eyes appeared to stare at her with the same hatred as the man. “You’re too late.” With that statement, the man vanished. Heather blinked. She scanned the alley, but he was gone. He’d be hard to miss. She shook her head and ran her hand through her hair. Was she hallucinating? He had to be wrong. Rosemary was alive. She had to be, but for the first time, doubt crept in, crushing her last ray of hope.Gasping for breath, she dashed passed the alley and headed for the convenience store. Firemen, cops and plain-clothed men wandered in the parking lot. At the edge of the 7-Eleven parking lot, an oversized cop with short, cropped blond hair stood with his palms facing her. With his huge muscles, broad chest and towering height, he was definitely a long lost cousin of the Hulk. “Hold it right there.” The streetlight shone on the man’s don’t-mess-with-me look.Heather peered around him, but only glimpsed the tires of a black Continental. Sheer panic hit her at the make and the color of the car, but dark splotches of red paint stained the cement next to the tires. The doubt grew larger. “Please, what happened?”“You need to calm down and stay back, Miss,” he said in a gruff voice.“No, you don’t understand. My sister, Rosemary, works here. Is she all right?”He sighed. “Ma’am, you need to stay here.”“Like hell I will.” She plowed her shoulder into him, but bounced off his chest like a Nerf ball. “Get out of my way.”Digging his fingers into her flesh, he grabbed both of her shoulders and halfway lifted her off the ground. She peered into his granite face. He narrowed his eyes. “If you calm down, I’ll find out, but if you don’t, you’re going to be sitting in my car. Got it?”She swallowed and nodded. As he walked over to a plain-clothes policeman, she paced back and forth and bit her nails. Only uniformed cops patrolled the aisles inside the store. Rosemary was nowhere to be seen. A foul taste of dread formed in her mouth. She shivered as if spiders crawled down her arms and legs. She folded her arms to ward off the chilling cold gripping her. In the midnight sky, a red line circled the white moon--a blood moon. Forget what that means. Her stomach hurt as a ball of fear settled inside her. Heather bolted around the policeman’s side, but he grabbed her arm and whirled her around. His fingers dug into her arm. She stared at his pissed off face. “I said you need to stay right here.”“No, please. I don’t see her. Where is she?”“Officer Ramsey,” a male voice said. Ramsey turned around, but his strong fingers tightened. “Detective?”Heather strained to see who approached. Wearing a gold corduroy jacket with brown patches on his elbow and dark navy pants, a bald, paunchy man strolled towards them. “What’s going on?”Ramsey aimed his thumb at the convenience store. “This woman says her sister works here.”The other man scrutinized her. “Release her.”He stuck out his hand. “I’m Detective Ronald Hewitt. You are?”She clutched his chubby hand. Surprised, she winced at his strong grip. “Heather. Heather Bowen. My sister is Rosemary Bowen. I’ve been trying to reach her, but haven’t been able to get ahold of her.” Detective Hewitt released her hand. “Can I see some identification, ma’am?”Heather fumbled in her purse and handed him her driver’s license.Hewitt glanced at it and her face. He pulled a pen and small black notebook out of the inside of his jacket. He scribbled on his pad. He handed the license to her. “When did you try calling her?”“I started calling her about forty-five minutes ago. I’ve been trying to call her about every fifteen minutes, but she never answers.” At his stoic face, the ball of fear doubled in size in her gut. Bile darted up her throat, burning it. She swallowed. “Where is she?”“She didn’t answer?”“No and then I tried calling the store, but couldn’t get an answer.”“I see. Why did you want to call her?”She wetted her lips. “I had a premonition and wanted to make sure she was all right.”He cocked his eyebrow. “A premonition?”“Um, yes. Something happened didn’t it?”“What does your sister look like?”“She’s got long black hair down to her butt…” Ramsey and Hewitt gave each other a knowing look. Heather pretended not to notice. At their secret glance, she balled her hands and dug her nails into her palm. Her words faded. “…brown eyes and about an inch taller than me.” He flashed his green eyes over her. “How tall are you?”“Um five four.”Ramsey stared at his shoes. Hewitt straightened his shoulders. “Ma’am, I’m sorry to inform you that there has been an incident.”“What? No!” Heather swallowed. A scream died on her lips. “Your sister killed a customer and then stepped into the front of moving RTD bus.”“How do you know that? Do you have any proof? Rosemary wouldn’t do that.”Hewitt cleared his throat. “We have the incident on tape.”

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
Well, I love YA! I gobble up nearly every book put out in this genre. I haunt the YA shelves at Barnes & Noble. I’ve always loved to read and have been writing for as long as I can remember, and for the last 10 years or more, my favorite genre has been YA. Specifically, YA paranormal, YA dystopian. And I am drawn to stories where the lead character is a strong kick ass female.About myself? I live on the Central California coast with my husband and son. I write full time. Age wise I am pretty old, but I feel my maturity level is around 15 J I read hundreds of books every year. I have a border collie who is far too intelligent for her own good.
What is it about the paranormal, in particular vampires, that fascinates you so much?
Paranormal is quite literally the most exciting genre of all. Vampires are awesome: my next book after the third Mad World book will be about vampires, but not your average vampires. Mine will be different. Odd. Unexpected.I love paranormal because I can take something that was a myth and build up an awesome, exciting story around it and excited readers! I write the kind of stories I’d want to read.
What inspired you to write this book?
I had just finished reading a great book about zombies. I loved it. I loved the strong female character. But I was dissatisfied a little because it didn’t tell how the world got smack dab into the middle of a zombie infested world, the story just started there. There was no scientific explanation, no plausible logic. And the characters did some things that I thought real people in the real world, thrust into the zombie apocalypse, would not do.So I thought to myself, “I think I can do better.”
Please tell us about your latest release.Well, The release of the sequel to Mad World: EPIDEMICis imminent. In fact, it may have just come out when this interview goes live. It is called Mad World: SANCTUARY
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
Sometimes names just come to me. Other times I am writing and I come to a part where I need to know a character’s last name, and it stops me cold for an hour. I go on internet searches, call my parents, ask my husband. I’m weird. LOL!!I do try to name characters plausible names. I will bring up a list of the popular baby names for the year that character was born. Or ask my dad (whose mother was raised in the Midwest) what a common surname for a Midwestern family was back thirty years ago.Sometimes inspiration will strike me. I was renting a car this past March and the manager of the rental agency was named Alyssa Portillo. She was your typical Californian of Mexican heritage who had done well by herself. And I thought to myself, Alyssa is of Mexican heritage. That’s the spot where I decided that. It’s almost like the character, because by this time I was several chapters into the story, had spoken to me. I went back and put that into the first chapter.
Was one of your characters more challenging to write than another?
They all came pretty easily to me. There’s a bit of me in every character. Some more than others.
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
Alyssa. She is me. I’d like to think I’d react the way she does in the book, if I were to live through what she did. She acts decisively, but she has heart. My husband was reading EPIDEMIC, and he says, “Alyssa is Ripley.” Meaning Ellen Ripley from Alien. And he’s right. Alyssa is just like Ripley.
Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
The characters just formulated in my mind. Slowly, as I began to write them, they came to life on the page. If I needed a certain type of character, I’d lean the likeliest character toward that type. It all worked out well.
What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
I think the Emily scene, as I like to call it, is one of my favorites. It shows the characters so well. It shows their bonds of friendship and it shows them in an impossible situation, and how they dealt with that. There are a lot of impossible situations in EPIDEMIC, but that one is one of my all times favorites. When I finished writing that scene, I felt immense pride. It had just come out of my head exactly how I’d envisioned it. This is what every writer hopes for.
Did you find anything really interesting while researching this or another book?
Yes. In fact, I was beginning to write this book when I came upon an extremely interesting article online. The article was about how present day scientists had indeed unearthed graves in Europe from the mid fourteenth century, mass graves from the Black Plague. They were trying to extract the DNA from the bone marrow and to try to activate the Yersinia Pestis bacterial endotoxins, to study them. They were actually doing this. I read that article and then did some more research on their work and I thought, “That is a really stupid thing to do.” And then I thought, what could happen?
What is the most interesting thing you have physically done for book related research purposes?
Not sure. I’m a somewhat boring writer. Most if not all of the magic happens inside my head. I don’t get out much. LOL!!
Can you tell readers a little bit about the world building in the book/series? How does this world differ from our normal world?
It is our normal world, but with a plague unleashed into it. This plague does terrible things. People have to survive in it. Normal people. People just like you and me. It’s our world but with a situation that demands some terrible choices. What would a normal person so in such a world just to stay alive? What would you do?
With the book being part of a series, are there any character or story arcs, that readers jumping in somewhere other than the first book, need to be aware of? Can these books be read as stand alones?
They can, but I don’t recommend it. The second and third books will have enough background entwined in them to be able to stand alone. But I recommend reading the whole series, to enjoy it and to know the characters the best. They are wonderful people!
Do any of your characters have similar characteristics of yourself in them and what are they?
My main character is similar to me. Very courageous, decisive, brave. Able to go into action mode when it’s required for survival. But she also has a gentle side, a compassionate side.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
I don’t believe in writer’s block, I’ve never experienced it. In my experience, if you sit down and start writing, you get into a rhythm and the words start flowing. What is harder, I think, is to get past the fear of writing badly and to get to the point where you are sitting at that computer and typing in words. That fear can be paralyzing. But you have to get over it, or it will never happen.
Do you have any weird writing quirks or rituals?I like my new keyboard, I write best on it. It’s a Unicomp and it’s very “clicky”.It helps me to write. I can hear and feel every keystroke. It’s very definitive.
Do you write in different genres?
Yes. Right now I’m writing a lot of YA paranormal and YA dystopian, but I have also written adult fiction, science fiction, fantasy, and children’s.
Do you find it difficult to write in multiple genres?
Not really. I write in the genres I like reading in. It comes naturally to me. My favorite is YA paranormal and that’s probably because that’s the genre I most like reading in.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
When I was writing regularly. I felt it a proud title. Actually, I was writing for years before I called myself a writer. And when I did, several people scoffed. That dampened my confidence. Oh how fragile I was then! But then I dumped that boyfriend and spent some time alone and that was very healthy for me. When you’re not in a relationship and you try to do something creative, you do it to please yourself. I was writing for a few years like this. Then I met my husband and we were dating and he was very supportive, especially after I showed him a short story I’d written, I think then he saw I was serious about this. His support has been a balm, it’s been wonderful. I’d advise any budding writer to surround themselves with ultra-supportive people. It helps, it really does.
What are your guilty pleasures in life?
Long hot baths. Expensive chocolate. Dinner out with my honey.
Other than writing, what are some of your interests, hobbies or passions in life?
I love to read, I read constantly. I feel it’s not only important to keep up my skills by reading, but also I just enjoy it. I fall asleep every night with a book.I also love to garden. I have a pot garden on my back patio, and some plants in ground as well. I love plants, and trees in particular. I love visiting forests. There’s just something so soothing and right about a big forest.
What was the last amazing book you read?
Fear by Michael Grant. It was awesome! Made me hungry for the next one in the series.
Where is your favorite place to read? Do you have a cozy corner or special reading spot?
I love to read in bed best of all. It’s so cozy. We have a big king size bed with lots of pillows and comforters and it’s my happy spot. I’m all about comfort. Second favorite spot is in the tub.
What can readers expect next from you?

Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
Certainly! Here you go~
From Chapter Two -We pulled up to the curb and Coach Turner turned engine off and got out of the van. Stepping onto the grass outside the yellow house, he stopped and listened. The neighborhood seemed to hold its breath. We all watched from the windows of the van. Turner quietly walked up to the door and knocked. Then he rang the doorbell and waited. From the van, we thought we could hear faint sounds coming from inside the house. It was hard to tell if it was just an animal or a person, but it seemed to be in some kind of distress. Turner grabbed the doorknob and turned… Screams filled the morning air, coming from inside the house. Coach swung open the door, ready for anything. Meanwhile, in the van, we had heard the screaming and we all began pouring out of the vehicle, scrambling to catch up with him. I wanted Risa and the dog to stay behind. I wanted them safely in the back of the van. “Stay right here, Risa! Do not open the door of this van.” I told her. Risa just looked at me with scared eyes. I tried again. “Do you understand me? Keep the door closed! Stay inside! Okay?” This time she nodded. Her dog lay under the seat, and she sat on the floor and put her arm around him. I jumped out of the van and shut the door firmly. Conner was in the lead as we ran up to the front door and came to a stop in our mad rush. We peered inside. Coach Turner was right in front of us. Turner slowly stepped into the house. The screaming had stopped for a few seconds. Suddenly, it started up again, sounding panicked.
“That is my mom!” screamed Conner, and he rushed inside and came to a halt next to Turner. They both rushed forward and around the right hand corner of the hall. They were in the kitchen, but the screams now came from directly ahead and to the left, in the family room. They both saw the scene at the same time, and Conner gasped in horror. His mother appeared to have fallen across the coffee table and onto the couch. Crouched over her was Conner’s big brother Russell. He wasn’t supposed to be there. He was supposed to be away at school.

Release Day Blitz and $25 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway Serafina and the Silent Vampire by Marie Treanor

PGExcerpt from:SERAFINA AND THE SILENT VAMPIRE (Serafina’s, Book 1)By MARIE TREANOREbook available 28thAugust from Amazon and B&N
She felt her way around two intertwining apple trees and found Tam.She stopped dead with shock. His large frame was unmistakable in the flashlight beam, but she’d never before seen it slumped in the brutal hold of an attacker who seemed to be strangling him or squeezing him to death. Which would be quite an achievement considering the size of Tam’s muscular body. And the fact that his opponent, although about equal in height, was far lighter and leaner in weight. And wearing a kilt, as if he was, or was pretending to be, one of the Bells’ guests. Tam’s arms flailed as if trying feebly to fly free. That was terrifying in itself: Tam the Tank physically helpless.Sera’s hand wavered, and the beam from her flashlight shifted over a shock of dark chestnut hair. There was a tiny instant when she imagined she’d steeped herself too deeply in this vampire nonsense, because it almost looked as if the stranger had his face buried in Tam’s throat. It sent a weird, almost sensual shiver down her spine before she yanked her brain back into line.Who the hell was this? Ferdy’s stalker? Sera didn’t wait to find out. As he began to turn his head, granting her a glimpse of his shadowed face and gleaming eyes, she hurled herself at him feetfirst. Both her boots connected jarringly with hard flesh; her whole being jolted as if she’d been shot.It took an instant to realize that she lay on the ground on her back, winded, while Tam’s attacker, and Tam himself, remained upright. Jesus, she couldn’t have lost her touch to that degree! She’d slammedinto him. She should at least have knocked him off balance! But then, she should have landed on her feet, not her back, and been ready to jump him before he recovered. As she struggled to rise, her blurred vision cleared enough to show her, by the crazily waving beam of the torch, that the kilted thug had released Tam, who leaned one massive shoulder against the tree, shaking his head as if to clear it. Thank God, at least the bastard hadn’t killed him. And now they were two against one, however strong this maniac was.“Tam! Now!” she commanded in an urgent stage whisper and ran at the curiously still figure of the enemy. Tam muttered something that might have been, “Don’t, Sera.”Her quarry sidestepped her with a blur that surely spoke more for the intensity of her previous winding than for his genuine speed. Whatever the cause, it was enough to unbalance Sera. Fortunately, Tam leapt and caught her in his muscled arm—all that prevented her from falling over again. She whirled around, poised to face a counterattack, snatching the only weaponry she carried in her pocket—one of the ridiculous pointy sticks—and for the first time looked into the shadowed face of her enemy. Remembering belatedly about her flashlight still clutched in her bruised left land, she shone it directly into his face. The eerie crisscrossing of shadows on his skin disappeared in the golden glow, but he made no effort to hide from the light. Two large, dark brown eyes stared at her from a lean, still face. There was no doubt he was good-looking enough to turn heads, with a high forehead, long, thin nose, and full, expressive lips, all framed by a shock of thick, dark hair streaked with auburn. The combination of high, broad cheekbones and leanness gave him a slightly cadaverous look that somehow didn’t detract in the slightest from his male beauty. All these jumbled impressions Sera absorbed in an instant. But chiefly what caught and held her attention was the trickle of red blood running from the corner of his mouth and down the side of his chin.“Oh for f…!” Sera hurled the pointy stick to the ground. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” she raged. “This is our show.”

Interview with Marne Ann Kirk Author of Love Chosen

Roxanne, thank you so much for having me on your blog. I’m excited to hang out with you and hope I can entice you away from vamps for a book or two . Fae can be pretty hot, too; though I must confess, I love many fang stories…and shape-shifter, and demon, and Lords of the Underworld, and gods…what can I say, I’m an other-lover!
Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
I’m a romantic at heart, and I’m particularly infatuated with medieval times--the dark ages, Genevieve, King Arthur, knights, dragons, magic—as well as with mythologies. Greek, Celtic, Norse…you start talking gods and goddesses, and I’m enthralled. So it wasn’t a huge reach for me to write fantasy romance and paranormal romance. And I love both equally.
Please tell us about your latest release.
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions? It’s rather funny you ask this. Issie is a variation of one of my daughter’s names, Tyler was just a great name, Meisha is the name of one of my daughters’ friends…I could go on and on, but you get the idea, I think, I don’t really get worked up about the names in the Fae Dragon Chronicles. Which is odd, because in my paranormal romance, Goddess on the Run, I researched and worried about every single name. I guess what the author focuses on depends on the book, right? (oh, and I should mention, the names are the only similarities between these characters and real people. The characters are only real in my stories)
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
Well, Issie was amazing. I just adored her. She was tough, and fun, strong, yet so scared deep down. I never really knew what would come out of her mouth or how she would react until we were in the middle of a scene. Then, as I was typing, I’d think, “really? You’re really going to do that? Okay…” She never let me down, though. I didn’t have to go back and tear out scenes because they didn’t fit her. Everything just flowed with her.Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
I develop a character sketch for each of my characters, list out their physical attributes, their personalities, fill out questionnaires…I’m pretty brutal with this. I’ve even begun using a book about birthdays to help me really nail down personalities. And I am so grateful one of my girls is an astrology aficionado, or I never would’ve found this book. It’s a perfect tool for me. I put all of the character information, along with a whole lot of other things, in what’s called a story bible. I’m sure some of you have heard of them; but for those of you who haven’t, it’s just a tool for keeping track of details—like a binder or computer files.
What is the most interesting thing you have physically done for book related research purposes?
Whenever I’m in an unfamiliar town, my husband and I try to go on a haunted tour of that town. It’s one thing I’ve started doing as research, because I learn fascinating stories about towns this way. The stories are just a different experience than what you get in history books, and it has given me some fantastic inspiration. We’ve done this in Galveston, TX, Salem, MA, Denver, CO, Charleston, SC, Glenwood Springs, CO…
Can you tell readers a little bit about the world building in the book/series? How does this world differ from our normal world?
The climate on this planet changes faster, and within a much smaller area, than our own. This planet is like a medieval version of Earth, only much smaller. However, there are two poles, and the climate is much the same. I love creating creatures, and there are a few creatures in the Fae Dragon Chronicles to keep your eyes out for (other than the dragons). The golgae is mentioned in Love Chosen, but in book two, Love Dared, these beasties really come out to play. Watch out for them, as they’ll keep you up at night. Snafhors are another creature to watch out for, but they don’t attack anyone until book three, so you’re safe for a while. In Love Chosen, the reader sees only the fae’s protected world. In the second book, though, the fae are no longer protected and the world becomes so much bigger .
With the book being part of a series, are there any character or story arcs, that readers jumping in somewhere other than the first book, need to be aware of? Can these books be read as stand alones?
The interesting thing about The Fae Dragon Chronicles is I actually wrote Love Dared (book 2) first. Then I realized there was a story before Willow and Dare’s story. I kept asking myself, “how did things get to this point for the fae?” and I had to answer that question. That’s why I wrote Issie and Tyler’s story (Love Chosen, book 1), and that’s how I can honestly say these books can be read as stand alone books or in order. Your choice…although, since Love Dared doesn’t come out until 2013, you might want to go ahead and read Love Chosen .
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
I don’t suffer from writer’s block, no. I suffer from “Life is getting in the way” block, and it’s an issue I really struggle with. Believe it or not, it was easier to write when my kids were younger. I don’t know why that is… However, I have one night a week I leave the house to write, and I also ignore the housework… a lot.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
I considered myself a writer in 2002, when I received my degree, my husband gave me permission to quit my day job for a year and stay home to write, and my I joined some writers’ organizations. I still question the validity of that, sometimes, though. When I’m at my darkest points, and I feel like maybe I’m not REALLY a writer… I hope that makes sense to some…
What are your guilty pleasures in life?
Oooh. Chocolate. And secretly looking at well-muscled men, and did I mention chocolate?
Other than writing, what are some of your interests, hobbies or passions in life?
Baking, reading, gardening, and my children and grand-children.
What was the last amazing book you read?
The Immortals After Dark series. I love the entire series!
What can readers expect next from you?
September 17, my next book, Goddess on the Run, comes out through Crescent Moon Press. It’s a paranormal romance about a demi-goddess hiding from her destiny on the human realm. The leader of the Tuatha de Danaan warriors has plans for her, though. She holds the key to salvation, for both him and their worlds, whether she wants to or not. He’ll do whatever it takes to convince her of her duty. But can he find the key to her heart?

Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book? Why sure…
I’ll leave you with an excerpt for Love Chosen:
Tyler pushed his way through the onlookers. They reeked of sex and sweat. The foul odor made his eyes water and his vision blur as he forced his way to the front of the crowd, almost stepping on the female lying in a heap on the floor. He turned, saw his guards at the rear of the crowd, and addressed the unfortunate Lowers. “Leave now.”
He turned back to the scene, expecting them to follow his orders. Disgust filled him as he assessed the scene. Blood pooled on the bed where two bodies laid holding each other. The heads from both bodies were missing. He wouldn’t bother searching for them now. He wouldn’t find them. The killer, it seemed, liked to keep the heads as trophies.
Tyler sighed, becoming aware again of the others crowding the room. When he found those heads, he’d find the sick bastard who did this.
“But what ‘bout Lenore?”
“I ‘eard Issie scream.”
“She all right?”
One chattered over the next in their efforts to find out what happened. They weren’t listening to him.
His eye twitched. He hated when that happened.
How could he make these dullards leave? Did they not see the violent murders on the bed? Or did they not care? Were their lives so barren and meaningless, death didn’t bother them? His gaze fell on the female at his feet. Her face covered by her mass of honeyed tresses, she lay in a limp pile, her robes undone and revealing a creamy swell of ample breast.
The two victims in the bed were beyond help, but this unconscious female held the concern of the others.
He knelt by her side and lifted her in his arms. She smelled clean, like moss and sea air, instead of the sweaty body he’d expected. Her hair caressed his arm when he stood with her nestled to his chest. It fell like a lowered curtain and hung almost to his knees. A waterfall of honey.
She felt right in his arms; her neck fit into the crook of his shoulder, her breath warmed his chest like she belonged there. Where had such a thought come from? He didn’t associate with the powerless Lower class. Ever.
He pushed aside a rising need to draw her even nearer.
Tyler faced the crowd again. “As you can see, she sleeps. She’s not injured. Now go. All of you.” He fixed a few of them with the glacial silver stare which always yielded results. “Go back to your beds. I’m Tyler, of the High Council. My warriors will take care of this.”
“But, Issie. Is she hurt?” one barmaid asked, wrapping her arms around her waist as if she feared retching.
“You, take me to Issie’s rooms. The rest of you, go. She’ll be fine.” Or at least I’ll be, if I can have some quiet to think.
“But--”
"What ‘bout Lenore? She pass through the gates?”
Everyone began speaking at once, like a gathering of Lower younglings after a sweet. They had no regard for his orders. Such disrespect was unacceptable. He had to get this under control.
”Go,” he roared, silencing the room.
The crowd shuffled down the hall and disappeared behind different doors. Bits of conversation-- “Can’t believe Lenore’s gone,” and “who could do such a thing?” --floated back to him.
Who indeed? The fae were peaceful caretakers for the dragons. Murder didn’t happen among them. It was a coarse crime of the mortals--until three moons ago. And now, it had happened again--to another messenger and another whore-maid.

Book Description:
A British girl with a secret. A New York cop with a past. And a mob that wants revenge In the slickest, sexiest novel to come out in a long time, ruggedly tough and honest cop Detective Tommy Connell picks up an English girl, Mrs Jones, who claims to be the witness to a murder, and falls in love with her. Well, Mrs Jones, whoever she is, must be very attractive because an awful lot of people seem to want to get their hands on her if they can get her away from Connell's determined hands, including some organized crime boys along with the Feds.
Detective Connell definitely has his work cut out for him if he wants to end up with the body of Mrs Jones, dead or alive, that's for sure. All-in-all it's probably safe to say he hasn't a clue what is going on. It is probably equally safe to guess that Mrs Jones does. Not that 'safe' is quite the right word to use here.

B.A. Morton is a British crime, historical and romance writer.
Her first novel is 'Mrs Jones'. The next in the series, 'Molly Brown', will be published during 2012.
She lives and writes on the Scottish Border.

Interview with Edward Lorn

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
I've always enjoyed horror. For as long as I can remember, I've loved monster movies and scary books. But before all that, my mother has stories that reveal my penchant for horror at a very young age. I'll tell you like she told me.
One cold morning, my mother was walking me to school. On the left side of the street was a mountain of dirt, probably twenty feet tall. Just beside it was a smaller mound, about two feet tall. To this day, I have no idea why those piles of dirt were there, nor why I was so fascinated by them. We were moving along, not paying each other much attention, when I stopped. Mom tugged at me, but I wouldn’t come. I just kept staring at those piles of dirt, hypnotized. Mom asked me what was wrong. She says the conversation went something like this:I said, “There are bodies under there.” Mom asked, “How do you know that?”
“Because I see them.”
“Well, I don’t.”
“That’s because you can’t see what I see.”
“Really? Think we should we call the police?”
Rather seriously, I responded, “Yeah. I think that would be a good idea.”
That was my first day of Kindergarten. I was five years old.
Please tell us about your latest release.
Here's the synopsis:
When war photographer Mark Simmons is sent to do a promo on Waverly Chasm, he assumes it’s a puff piece, a waste of his talents.
Widow Marsha Lake brings her son, Lyle, to help him heal after his father’s death.
Donald Adams, aka H.R. Chatmon, joins the tour to get away from a sticky situation.
Justine McCarthy consents to the hike to placate her boyfriend, Trevor.
For Jaleel Warner, the tour guide, walking the chasm is just part of his job.
Each of these people must face their darkest memories in order to discover and defeat the secret buried in Waverly Chasm.
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
Nope. My characters come fully loaded. When I sit down to write a story, I find out the names about the same time a reader would. Never have I gone into a piece of fiction with names already planned. For me, these folks are already breathing entities with pasts and memories and emotions, just like my real family and friends. Every time I create a new tale, I'm meeting new people, and they are very real to me.
Was one of your characters more challenging to write than another?
I think my bad guy was the only challenge. My villain is a supernatural entity. Writing outside of the can-happen field always holds the threat of failure, even more so than fiction based in the real world. You have to create rules and abide by them. Monsters can be fun to write about, and I had a blast once I got into things, but there's that constant worry that someone will not suspend their belief long enough for you to tell your tale. I think I managed to succeed this time, but that doesn't lessen the fear going into the possibility that I may tackle the unreal again in another story.
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
The fun I had writing Donald Adams is illegal in some countries, I believe. Every time I popped inside his head, I felt like I was getting away with something, as if it shouldn't be that much fun. The character is a dwarf, and a wiseacre to boot. At three-foot-nine, he has the biggest ego of the group. But there's a reason for his anti-social behavior. You'll have to read the book to find out why that is, though.
What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
There's a scene towards the end of Dastardly Bastard where the group is running from a monster. Though the novel is horror, this scene stands out for its comedic imagery. I know people take "monsters" with a grain of salt, so when I introduce it, I purposefully explain the creature in great detail. I enjoy the scene because I've fooled everyone so far with it. You read the scene in question expecting horror, but by the end, you're laughing. I've been asked why I did this, and the answer is simple. I'm a trickster at heart. I want to take what you expect and flip it on its head. There's plenty of other stuff to be frightened of in the story, but this scene isn't meant to be one of them.
Did you find anything really interesting while researching this or another book?
I found that I firmly believe that we are nothing more than what our memories have made of us. We choose whether or not to let our bad memories mold us into the people we end up being. I know from personal experience that I'm a mash-up of the bad memories my father gave me as a youth and the good ones my mother instilled in me. I've taken the bull by the horns and decided to use both to my advantage. Bad memories are my fuel; they're what drive me to succeed. The good ones are the vehicles that get me to my destinations. One means nothing without the other. Unless you're trying to start a fire, then by all means, pour your bad memories all over the place and watch yourself go up like a protesting Tibetan monk. It's your choice, really.
What is the most interesting thing you have physically done for book related research purposes?
Most recently, I tied myself up with zip-ties to see if I could get out of them. I did, but I broke three fingernails doing it. The purpose? I think you can figure that one out on your own.
Do any of your characters have similar characteristics of yourself in them and what are they?
You have full exclusivity here, as this is the first and last time I'm giving this away. I'm going to break down how some of the characters pertain to me as an individual.
Mark Simmons is a morbidly obese man. Though I am not five hundred pounds like Mark, I do tip the scales at four hundred. The counting he does to calm himself is how I get to sleep at night.
Donald Adams is an author. That one is easy. The second correlation is I'm a known smartass.
Justine and Trevor are an interracial couple. I'm white; my wife is black. Enough said.
That's all I'm giving you. There is more, but I'd be ruining part of the storyline if I rambled on about those. I would love it, though, if people who have read the book would comment about what other things might mirror my own life. Could be fun...
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
Sometimes, I wish I did. Even when I get stumped on a project, I end up opening another document and starting something else. Sometimes I come back to that other project, and other times, I don't. No matter what, I'm always writing. Thank Tom Cruise (my preferred deity of choice today), that I have a family that understands. My wife and daughter have imposed vacations upon me, but even then, a story continues to go through my head. Fellow authors have told me they would kill to write as much as I do. I say, “Forget murder. I'll give you some of my prolific leanings if you can find a way to transfer the stuff.”
Do you have any weird writing quirks or rituals?
I think writing, all by itself, is a ritualistic quirk. That is, if you do enough of it. But I also think that rituals breed formulaic prose. Here's what I mean: If you do the same thing forever and always, you can expect the same results much of the time. Now, if you're Janet Evanovich, that's not a bad thing. Stephanie Plum's annual numeric increase of novels with her as the main character has become a ritual of sorts. The spell is simple: One drop of possible circumstance, two drops of character, three acts that differ only slightly from the previous fifteen books, mix well, hit NY Bestseller's list. This is not the ramblings of a latent hater, as I enjoy the Stephanie Plum series and respect Janet Evanovich, but only an accepted opinion on how things are done. It's common knowledge that Evanovich has a strict writing schedule, as do all the big dogs. Open any book on writing style, and you will read about how any good writer does just that; they write. Most of us focus on a certain time of day and write for an allotted number of hours. Rinse. Repeat. I don't do this because it doesn't work for me. I'm not selling as many books as Janet, either, so take what I say as nothing more than my way of doing things now and not a map of my future. I know this much is true. If I write at night, my stories are dark. If I do it during the day, my stories have a lighter feel to them. I use time of day as toner. Is that weird or ritualistic? I don't know. You tell me.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
I still don't consider myself a writer. I see myself as a storyteller. Insert smile here. Meaning this: I would be perfectly happy telling my tales to groups of people without writing them down. I don't have to write to tell a story. I hope that makes sense.
What was the last amazing book you read?
Kin, by Kealan Patrick Burke. Hands down, that's the best horror novel I've read in the past five years. I love John Steinbeck, and Burke is like him, just far more brutal.
What can readers expect next from you?
I'm always trying to find something new. Bay's End is a coming of age story, Dastardly Bastard is a supernatural thriller, and next up I'm shooting for gritty suspense. After that, who knows? Given the chance, I might write a sci-fi tale one day. In the end, you can always expect to find some kind of real-world anchor with some violence thrown in. If that's your forte, hop aboard. I could use a few more willing passengers.

Interview with Sky Purington

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
Born in raised in New England, I suppose it was just a given that that I lived in an old house, one that had been around for generations upon generations. Naturally, nearly all of them had a little something extra… that extra being paranormal activity. Naturally, I carried on my experiences loosely through my paranormal books. *grins*
What is it about the paranormal, in particular vampires, that fascinates you so much?
I wish I could explain exactly what it is about vampires that makes my heartbeat pick up. It’s certainly not the horror that they’re privy to. No, it’s always been the deep, intellectual side. The side that speaks to the mere mortal. For some reason I’ve always been overly eager to connect the dots between the undead and the living, most especially vampires. They possess an intensity and yes, romanticism, I can’t get enough of. I’m a HUGE Ann Rice and Bram Stoker fan. If I go modern with vampires, it’s straight to the movie Underworld. If a vampire’s history isn’t going to be traced, don’t bother trying to sell him/her to me.
What inspired you to write this book?
Well, there are about ten answers to this question but I’ll keep it simple. I love the paranormal. I enjoy ghost hunting. I always loved creatures of the night. Number one on the list… vampires. When I wrote The Victorian Lure I’d already started a vampire series where the vampire is the hero. The thing is? I’d published a few vampire stories already where the vampire is the hero. As difficult as it was for me, I’m a big believer in trying out new things. This time, my vampire needed to be the nemesis. He needed to truly be the bad guy. In its own way, the concept was sorta hot. *winks* With all ideas lined up, my first hero warlock was born. Because God forbid my good guy be… too good? So this novel turned into a Warlock vs. Vampire saga. Worked out great in the end!
Please tell us about your latest release.
My latest release is actually a re-launch of an older title called, Darkest Memory (Forsaken Brethren Series- Book One). This book’s hero is a sexy British Vampire. Super wealthy, he’s long awaited the return of his one true love, Calah. When she’s reborn one stormy night in the twenty-first century, the story takes off. Heart of Vesuvius (its sequel) is available as well.
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
Honestly, I let the name come to me and it always does within the first or second paragraph. I make a point of not overthinking names. The only rule (as I write a lot about the Medieval period) is that the name is time appropriate.
Was one of your characters more challenging to write than another?
Yep, and he was Ferchar, the hero from the second novel in my MacLomain Series. He was pretty tormented. Helping him resurface from the dark place he’d taken himself took finesse. I’d like to think that he and I made it.
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
It will always be a toss-up between Ferchar (as aforementioned- from Destiny’s Denial) and Seth, from The Tudor Revival (Book 3 in my Calum’s Curse Series) two books after The Victorian Lure. Ferchar was tormented so (yep, call me strange) I enjoyed helping him crawl out of his dark ‘mental’ cave. Seth? Well, he’s a dare-devil, cocky American. How could I have not enjoyed writing about him? The guy needed to be taken down a peg or two. *winks*
Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
I’d be betraying my characters if I tried to sketch or develop them too soon. While in ‘real life’ I’m a planner by nature when it comes to writing I’m completely spontaneous. My characters tell me what they want when they want it and man do they develop unique personalities along the way!
What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
Great question! Interestingly enough, my favorite scene in The Victorian Lure was not one of the paranormal scenes or even the vampire scenes but a small moment that the hero and heroine had together. A moment where they truly broke through their purely sexual attraction and aggravation with one another and started to really be attracted…
He could do better. They could do better.
Balling his hands into fists he raised his head and stared out the window again. They could do better. He just needed to figure out how. No matter what happened, they’d get out of this alive.
“You’re not so bad yourself.”
Leathan kept his gaze on the steady snow. “None of this has been right for you and me.”
“I don’t think it’s been right for any of us,” Dakota said softly from behind him.
“I can’t stand to let any of you down.”
“Your parents didn’t want you to become a paranormal investigator, did they?”
He kept looking out the window. “They believed in financial security. I may be a Stewart but believe me, the royal name has no grand dollar amount attached to it anymore. It’s but another old as time Scottish name.”
“I think they would be very proud of you right now.”
If only he could be sure. “Would they really? Doubt it.”
“Have you helped anyone in your current occupation?”
“Aye, here and there.”
“How does that make you feel?”
He closed his eyes. “Better than any computer application I ever wrote.”
“Exactly.” Dakota rubbed his shoulder. “You really are way too hard on yourself, you know that?”
Turning, his gaze fell to hers. “So I’ve been told.”
As seemed to be the way with them lately, their eyes held. A strange sort of gripping exaltation filled him. But along with such an intense and good feeling came a new level of terrifying fear for her.
He’d never felt anything quite like it. In fact, at that moment, Leathan knew without question, the thought of her potential death because of this house scared the living hell out of him. Would he be able to protect her?
Shaking her head, Dakota backed away. “Don’t do that. Don’t look at me that way. Please.”
Was the pain and fear that obvious? “What way?” He grabbed her hand before she could get too far. “Please, don’t be afraid. As I said before, I will protect you, with my life if need be, Dakota.”
She tried to pull her hand away. He wouldn’t let go. “That’s not what I was talking about and you know it.” Slowly, step by step, he reeled her in. “So you see I’m developing feelings for you? Trust me; it’s nothing to be afraid of. It’s not like I’m saying I love you but I definitely like you. Do you deny feeling the same?”
“Never trust someone who says trust me.”
But she allowed him to pull her closer.
“All right, don’t trust me then, if it makes you feel better,” he said.
“But I do.”
Leathan pulled her against him, wrapped one arm around her waist and tilted her chin up with his free hand. “You do trust me?”
“Yes,” she murmured.
“We’re allowed this, you know.” He brushed his thumb over the curve of her jaw.
Her eyes drifted shut and her lower lip quivered slightly. “I’m not so sure. I find it hard to believe that anything started in this house could achieve a happy ending. I try, I do. Just last night, I was strong for Andrea. Now, talking about this with you, I feel as fearful and unsure as I did before.”
“I’m flattered.”
Her eyes shot open. “Why?”
“Because you chose me to share your true feelings with. Because you want a happy ending with me.”
A medley of emotions flickered within her teary gaze. “For all I thought you a diehard pessimist at the beginning, I’m starting to have my doubts.”
“Good.” Leaning down, he dropped a chaste kiss on her lips. “I want you to promise me something.”
“Oh, that’s never a good idea. Life, and this damned house, is too unpredictable to be sure I’ll be able to live up to it.”
Did you find anything really interesting while researching this or another book? The entirety of research connected to this book was based on my own paranormal experiences through life. So yes, the ‘research’ was very interesting! J
What is the most interesting thing you have physically done for book related research purposes?
I ghost hunted! I have an EVP and EMF detector. Loved every single second of it! And yes, I got results but that’s being saved for a future Halloween blog post. *winks*
Can you tell readers a little bit about the world building in the book/series? How does this world differ from our normal world? The world building was based on the simple belief in the afterlife and ghosts. A parallel plane so to speak. As to the vampires… I had to try writing a story where they’re the enemy and not the hero. If you truly love vampires as much as I do then you know representing them from every angle is… essential.
With the book being part of a series are there any character or story arcs, that readers jumping in somewhere other than the first book, need to be aware of? Can these books be read as stand alones?
These books can most certainly be read as stand alones. I would, however, recommend reading them in order as it’ll offer the full flavor or the series. And YES, there’s an arc, a wizard from my MacLomain Series becomes a character in these books, but he’s a ghost now. So… kinda cool.
Do any of your characters have similar characteristics of yourself in them and what are they?
In the Victorian Lure, no. If you read Darkest Memory, Calah and I have the writing, looks and lust for vampires in common. If you read Destiny’s Denial from my MacLomain Series, you’re reading about me to a T, down to the Iced Coffee. ;-)
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
Yep, when I do I walk away for a week or so. I focus on promo and everything else that goes along with writing. By the time I return to my MS my mind’s typically refreshed and the block’s gone.
Do you have any weird writing quirks or rituals?
One. Need to have a candle burning.
Do you write in different genres?
Yes.
Do you find it difficult to write in multiple genres?
No, I love it. It’s because of my love for variety that I knew Vampires had to not only be my pro but my con.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
The minute I saw the proud look on my Mom’s face when I won the New Hampshire Young Author award at seven. I saw me through her eyes.
What are your guilty pleasures in life?
Beer? *grins* No, but I do like a good ale. My number one guilty pleasure is Macaroni and Cheese. I LOVE it. It doesn’t always love my thighs though. Sad sigh.
Other than writing, what are some of your interests, hobbies or passions in life?
Well, I’m a closet case when it comes to fashion (clothing) and interior designing. Love clothes and redesigning the rooms in my house. Yep, I spend too much time watching HGTV. Tee hee.
What was the last amazing book you read?
The Secret by Rhonda Burns. It changed my life. And I don’t ever read non-fiction, folks. This one’s worth checking out.
Where is your favorite place to read? Do you have a cozy corner or special reading spot?
Guess I fall into the ‘Brady Bunch’ category either by design or necessity. My son’s six and in my bed is the only time I can read. But I anticipate years from now that I’ll do the same. There’s nothing quite like snuggling down beneath my down comforter in bed with a good book.
What can readers expect next from you?
My little one is off to 1st grade the last week in August so I anticipate my readers will hear a lot more from me. I’ll be busy working on two projects. The first, Highland Defiance from The MacLomain Series- Early Years and a Children’s books series.
Where can readers find you on the web?
Everything you need to know about me can be found at www.skypurington.com. I love to hear from readers so pop on over and email me!
Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
I did earlier in the interview so no. If you like the paranormal, fantasy and vampires, The Victorian Lure should keep you thoroughly entertained. And it’s okay… you can root for the vampire! J
