RE-CHARGE

These days most of us are living life in the fast lane.  Unless you spent the week on vacation you probably need some time to recharge.   Like oxygen on a plane, you have to get what YOU need before you can be good for anyone else.  Identify what you need to refill your own battery.  A hot bath, hot yoga, long run or time with a friend?  Set aside the time for what you need. Think of it as making an appointment with yourself.  Then go get  your energy !!

BEETS

We know that many of you prefer to eat produce that’s in season so that you can shop locally and reduce your carbon footprint.  An added benefit is that your food will most likely be of a higher quality.  Travel can tire out even the heartiest produce. Beets are in season and they have a wide variety of benefits and can be prepared many different ways in soups, salads and side dishes. Studies have shown that beets guard against cancer, especially colon cancer, and that  including beets in your diet helps protect a body against heart disease. Beets contain folic acid which is necessary for the production and maintenance of new cells.  They also  contain sodium, magnesium, calcium, iron and phosperous.  They are considered a fiber food and contain vitamins A and C as well as niacin.

MAKE AND KEEP YOUR APPOINTMENTS

It’s early in the new year.   This is a good time to take stock of upcoming appointments.   Be sure to schedule all annual visits now.  If your appointment time is late in the year and it’s too early to book that now,  you can make a note on your calendar (two months in advance) to be certain you get that on the books.

Do your homework and show up prepared with comments and questions.

It’s Saturday…….”WORK THE COAT”

It doesn’t matter that it’s the middle of January, or that it may be below freezing where you are.  You’re still fabulous (you ARE) and there is nothing that can take you out of the winter doldrums as effectively as telling that to the world.  Read what Marilu has to say about GUSTO :

“Years ago, my girlfriend Cynthia called me to come to her house to help her get ready for a big skiing weekend with a new boyfriend.  It was to be their first romantic weekend together, and she really wanted to look great.  She had borrowed several expensive coats from her mother, and wanted me to help her choose which one looked best.  She tried on the first coat, walked around in it, all slouchy and self conscious.  The coat hung on her with absolutely no energy and style.  My friend Cynthia, who’s really beautiful, asked, “Does this look good?”  Coat after coat, she looked uncomfortable and ill-at-ease.  Finally, after she agonized over each coat, I said to her, “It’s not the coats, Cynthia, it’s you!”  I grabbed a coat, put it on, threw my head back and walked around like I loved that coat.  She said, “That looks great on you!”  I explained to her, “It can look great on you, too, but you have ‘work the coat’!”  This expression, “work the coat,” has taken on great meaning around my friends and family.  It has become our slogan for attitude and presentation.  It explains that energy that someone has, that enthusiasm for life, that joie de vivre.  ”

YOU NEVER KNOW UNTIL YOU TRY

Most people are creatures of habit when they go to the grocery store.  One of the best things you can do for yourself in the store is to change things up.  Especially in the produce department.   Take the challenge.  Try something you’ve never eaten before.  Ask the produce manager the best way to prepare and eat an item that is new to you, then have some fun serving it to friends and family this weekend.
