Review: A Gentleman in Moscow
This is a remarkable book. It's the story of a man under house arrest in a hotel--where he spends half of his life--and how he finds meaning in the most circumscribed of lives. It's a skillfully written testament to the ability of human beings not just to accommodate themselves to fate, but also to find joy and satisfaction in limitation. While it won't appeal to readers who like their stories to move quickly from adventure to adventure, it is a lovely, contemplative and imaginative book that takes us back and forth through a man's life and shows us that beauty is to be found everywhere. A perfect example of how wonderful historical fiction can be, and kudos to Amor Towles for pulling it off with such panache.

New Website
Welcome to the redesign of www.meganchance.com. My goal here was to make the website simpler, more visually attractive, and still to give you all the information you could ever need (and probably more than you want) on all things Megan Chance. But far more important than web design is the fact that my newest historical fiction novel,A Drop of Inkhits the shelves on January 3, 2017. This book is a reimagining of the 1816 summer that Mary Shelley spent with Percy Shelley and Byron at the Villa Diodati, on the shores of Lake Geneva, when a contest to write the best ghost story inspiredFrankenstein.A Drop of Inkis set 60 years later, in the same house, and the novel was truly a labor of love for me, and one that has been gestating is some form or another for many, many years.Stay tuned for more information onA Drop of Ink,and in the meantime, enjoy the new site!

Fun with Friends
I've been wrapping up the last bits of research on the new novel (next week: plotting!!!), but in the midst of all that I've managed to take a day off here and there for some fun. Last week, several author friends and I converged on Debbie Macomber's lovely home for an excellent luncheon (we try to do this twice a year--much eating and gossiping ensues): (from left: Katherine Stone, Susan Anderson, Jayne Ann Krentz, Christina Dodd, Jill Barnett, Debbie Macomber, Stella Cameron, Kristin Hannah, Me, Linda Lael Miller)
Then, yesterday, I went into Seattle for lunch with Kristin Hannah, Christina Dodd and Jayne Anne Krentz, to celebrate the release of Christina's latest thriller,Because I'm Watching. What you don't see in this picture is the Cherries Jubilee, which was rapidly devoured.
This is what we were celebrating:
Now, back to work--this is the hardest part: taking all the research and little snippets of ideas that have occurred to me over the last months, and working them into some kind of entertaining plot. Wish me luck!
