Dark and Stormy
This Saturday I participated in one of my favorite events, Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network's(BARN) annual It Was a Dark and Stormy Night. Six authors, including me, Kevin O'Brien, Warren Read, Lynn Brunelle, Maureen McQuerry, and Erica Bauermeister, read short original works set to the theme of spookiness. There was a band, hors d'oeuvres, wine, Dark and Stormy cocktails, costumes, and lots of fun had by everyone.Thank you, Lynn Brunelle and everyone at BARN for some fabulous organizing. Here are a couple of pictures from the event:(Me (center), with good friends Lynn Beeman (l) and Jo'ell Catel (r))

NEWS!
I know it's been a long dry spell, and you've all been patiently waiting, and so I'm very very pleased to announce this:
The title is going to be changed, and I'll announce that when we decide what it's going to be, so stay tuned! Now I'm off to bury myself in revisions! Well, not before celebrating, of course, with a rather large glass of wine.

What I did on my Summer Vacation
Today is the last day of my month-long break. Tomorrow, I go back to work researching a new novel. Unlike many people, I did not spend this vacation doing anything fun, like sitting in the sun or jetting to Italy or France. Instead, I did glamorous author-y things like:Turned my daughter's old room from purple
to green:
Cleaned out the garage (and threw out the copies of Bon Appetit that I had been saving since I'd first subscribed in 1981--EVERY SINGLE ISSUE):
Where I also found old lunchboxes of my daughters' containing the notes I used to send with them to grade school (where I found the time to do this, I don't know):
And after hitting the dump was so exhausted that I hung out at a local bar with this friendly neighbor:
I also steam-cleaned the carpet, did my taxes (from last year) and did various other vile tasks I'd been procrastinating. But I also found some time for fun.Like going to the lavender farms in Sequim with my family:
And attending a wonderful author luncheon at Debbie Macomber's home, along with (standing l-r), Susan Anderson, me, Debbie Macomber, Jill Barnett, Christina Dodd (sitting) Kristin Hannah, Katherine Stone, Jayne Ann Krentz, Stella Cameron

Now, as all good things must, it's time for my break to end, and I have to say that the one good thing about taking a vacation that consists of not very many fun things (beyond a sense of accomplishment), is that I'm excited to get back to what I do best, which is working.

Girls' Day Out
Last week I turned in this to my agent:
And so, this week I was free to go on a day out with my wonderful friends Kristin Hannah, Kimberly Fisk, and Jill Barnett into Seattle, where we blissfully imbibed cocktails at lunch, and then spent the rest of the afternoon watching Wicked, which was Fantastic!

Really the perfect day!

Master Class
I'm teaching a Master Class called Your Novel's Bones, on June 29, 2019, in Everett, WA. It's hosted by the Evergreen Chapter RWA, but it's open to all writers, and we're going to be talking about Structuring the Novel in general--it's not a genre-specific class. This intensive Master Class goes beyond the basics, giving you the tools to dig deeply into the marrow of story by synthesizing plot, research, and character development all while maintaining tension. It's all all-day class, lunch is available, and there are still seats open! Here are all the details: MASTER CLASS WORKSHOPI promise it will be fun and informative! Special Deals Month
Coming to you through the haze of tree pollen allergies (a fairly recent thing--thank you, Universe), a broken temporary crown that keeps poking me in the cheek, and a pesky and relentless new idea that keeps nagging at me when I supposed to be editing the latest manuscript (don't worry, I'm focusing), to let you know that there are several special deals on Megan Chance books this month.First, A Drop of Ink is on special in Literature and Fiction Kindle monthly deals for $.99--if you haven't read my latest release, this is an excellent opportunity to get it for a really good price. I happen to love this book (I know, I say that about all of them--but this one is especially close to my heart, and when you read the Afterword, you'll see why). The link to the deal is here.
Next, all three books of my young adult Fianna Trilogy are available all this month in Teen and Young Adult Kindle book deals, for $.99 each. The link to that deal is here.
And lastly, the Spanish edition of Bone River, El Rio de Las Almas, is being offered at 50% off in Amazon's ES Marketplace, again, all through April. The link to that deal is here.
April is truly a Megan Chance extravaganza. Now, if I could only get the stupid trees to stop throwing their pollen at me ... Happy Spring!

Dark and Stormy Doings
As I think I've said before, Halloween is not my favorite time of year. I love October, with its colors and its chill, dark evenings, and I love fall. But I hate to be scared, and I can't read horror or see horror films, because they STAY WITH ME FOREVER. Which doesn't mean I don't love a cool, atmospheric Gothic tale now and again, and it's always fun to see what lurks in other authors' twisted minds. So yesterday, I participated in as BARN's (Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network) fun Dark and Stormy event, where I, along with 5 other authors (Kevin O'Brien, Ramon Isao, Bruce Barcott, Paul Hanson and Elizabeth George) read short pieces that started with the prompt "It was a dark and stormy night." There were costumes, food, wine (included mulled! wine), and some very spooky decorations. Here are a couple of pictures from the event (thank you, Rayne Lacko and Anne Clermont and Lynn Brunnell!), and, as a special treat, I've included a link to the short story I read, so you can see what I've been up to lately (and yes, yes, I am working hard on a novel--hopefully I'll be able to give you details on that soon).Me and Suzanne Selfors:
