Book Review: Queen of the Night
This story of an opera singer in the 19th century is somewhere between a 3 and a 4 for me--a 4 because I'm a sucker for an opera plot, which this is, and deliberately so: over the top, improbable, and determined largely by the machinations of fate--and a 3 because it is exactly all those things, and in this particular case, it keeps the reader at a bit of a disbelieving remove. The first 200 pages are full of heavy-handed foreshadowing--sometimes paragraphs of it--which is numbing, and the

Happy 2016!
Today happens to be my birthday, which is usually a day when I get all introspective and do things like contribute to the general insanity of choosing my favorite things of the year. (Me, not quite 1 year old) So, my favorite things of 2015 (assuming it matters to anyone but me): Movies: Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Hey, I am that person who stood in line and PAID to see the original Star Wars THIRTY-FIVE times. The Force Awakens reminded me of what it felt like to be that person again)

New Book!
I'm very excited to announce that I have just sold another book to Lake Union Publishing. This one--adult historical fiction--is scheduled to be released in January, 2017, though that is tentative. Unfortunately I can't tell you anything about it ... yet. I'm currently finishing a second draft (with 2 or 3 more to go), so what it will ultimately end up being about is anyone's guess. :) But I'm very pleased to share this news at last!

Authors Partying
For more years than I would like to count, these women and I have been gathering every holiday season, and yesterday was the day to meet, drink, eat, laugh and bitch. It was a lot of fun, and I cherish our times together. Some traditions should never be broken.
