From the Detroit Free Press: When sorry seems to be hardest word
Don't be surprised if a Jewish friend or acquaintance comes up to you this week and, out of the blue, asks for forgiveness.
It is a lesser-known but integral part of the Jewish high holidays, going on right now, in which people atone for their sins not only with God, but with one another. They must show remorse to everyone in their circle. Not just the people they know they wronged. Everyone.
"Will you forgive me if I've done or said anything this year that has hurt you?" That's how it's supposed to go. Every friend. Every neighbor. Every colleague.

From the Detroit Free Press: Don't discount Verlander when it's money time
Late Wednesday afternoon, in the top of the eighth inning, on his 109th pitch of the day, Justin Verlander blew a 94-m.p.h. fastball past White Sox cleanup hitter Conor Gillaspie. Strike 3! Verlander pounded the air with his fist. He hollered. His chest was heaving as he left the infield and headed for the dugout shadows, the thump of his closing book echoing through the ballpark.

From the Detroit Free Press: DeAndre Levy's sharp calls help Lions pack up Green Bay
DeAndre Levy pulled on the helmet. It wasn't the normal helmet. It was the "other" helmet. The one with the extra radio in it. The one he can only use if Stephen Tulloch goes down. Which Tulloch did. For the first time in nine years. After celebrating a sack. Really. And suddenly, like a bus driver grabbing an abandoned wheel, Levy, the linebacker, had mere seconds to take charge.

From the Detroit Free Press: Her flock sure to say you gotta have Faith
So this is your office?" I ask.
"I cleaned it up," she says. "Can you smell the Pledge?"
I glance around a nearly empty room, just bookcases, a desk, a picture of Jesus.
"Is your home like this, too?"
"Yeah," she says. "Except for the Pledge."

#MovieNightwithMitch Do you live in (decent) driving distance from Royal Oak, MI? Do you like movies? Then join me on Wednesday, September 24 for the 8pm showing of "A Walk Among the Tombstones" at the Emagine Entertainment theater complex. I'll be there with my co-host Ken Brown and some friends, and I'm inviting you, my Internet friends, to join me as well. We'll catch a movie, then head across the lobby to the Star Restaurant for more eating...and bowling! We'll all pay our own way, but I'm hoping to make this a monthly tradition--so bring your friends or make new ones, but I'd love to have you join me for a night out. RSVP at http://www.mitchalbom.com/d/moviewith...
