Tigers swept by Orioles

mitch albom: Winter comes early again and who knows what this team will look like next year

Winter began to creep into the city just after six o'clock Sunday night, courtesy of a man named Nelson Cruz - or, as he is known around here, Death. Cruz, the Baltimore Orioles' designated killer, swatted a David Price pitch in the sixth inning of a scoreless game and lifted it toward rightfield. It appeared, at first, to be a harmless foul.

Many thanks to Marlene Cohen and the Green Brook Book Club for welcoming me and #thefirstphonecallfromheaven. I got to have my cake and eat it, too.

Had a fun morning in NYC, on Good Day NY (and running into Fred Savage in the lobby)

From the Detroit Free Press: Some naked truth about sexting teens

This will make me sound old, but I'm going to say it.

In a million years — in 2 million years — I would never stick a camera down my pants to take a picture.

So I will never get this sexting craze.

I can't empathize with a teenage girl seeking acceptance by sharing photos of her breasts. I can't sympathize with a boy hoping to impress his crush with a 10-megapixel shot of his privates.

From the Detroit Free Press: Tigers’ 2015 wish list must include better defense

Did you ever notice how words that begin with “D” are rarely sexy? Divorce. Disappointment. Disillusion. Death.

On the other hand, words beginning with “O” have more appeal. Optimism. Opportunity. Opulent. Ooh-la-la.

Still, when it comes to sports, a “D” word often is the difference between champions and runners-up. “Defense.” And while the glitzier “offense” draws more attention, Tigers fans better hope Dave Dombrowski puts his emphasis on better fielding next year.

Because that can get you over the top.

Look at this year’s playoffs.

GREAT NIGHT with the movie crew. Many thanks to the 75 who came out despite the heavy rain and the last minute venue change. We saw ‘The Judge’ which everyone liked, and a few even predicted Oscar nominations for Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall. Lots of popcorn and pizza after the show. The next #MovieNightwithMitch will be mid-November (stay tuned). Am thinking about seeing “Interstellar” with Matthew McConaughey or Dumb & Dumber Too. What do you guys want to see?
