From the Detroit Free Press: Tigers' Brad Ausmus should remain manager
Two Sundays ago, the Detroit Tigers were spraying each other with champagne. One Sunday ago, they were trying to turn the tide of the playoffs.
Today, their stadium is shuttered. It gets cold fast when baseball season ends. And the season ended coldly, with the Tigers being swept by a more opportunistic, better relief pitching team, the Orioles.
Three games. Three losses.

mitch albom: Winter comes early again and who knows what this team will look like next year
Winter began to creep into the city just after six o'clock Sunday night, courtesy of a man named Nelson Cruz - or, as he is known around here, Death. Cruz, the Baltimore Orioles' designated killer, swatted a David Price pitch in the sixth inning of a scoreless game and lifted it toward rightfield. It appeared, at first, to be a harmless foul.

From the Detroit Free Press: Does sperm bank's mix-up color a child's future?
You can't always get what you want, but you should at least get what you order.
Even if it's a baby.
That's the upshot of a lawsuit filed by a lesbian couple in Ohio, who were shocked to find out they were having an African-American child.
Three years ago, the couple purchased sperm from a sperm bank in Illinois, selecting No. 380, a white, blonde-haired, blue-eyed donor. Apparently, someone at the sperm bank misread the number as 330, which was an African-American donor.
From the Detroit Free Press: Tigers can win today, but not in long run
Tigers can win today, but not in long run
It's not that the Tigers can't win today. They can. Comerica Park is not a shoebox like Camden Yards, and routine fly balls here do not rack up as home runs. David Price could pitch into the eighth inning, limiting visits to the haunted house that is the Tigers' bullpen. And quieting that orange crush of Orioles fans won't hurt.
