From the Detroit Free Press: Michigan Should Let the 'Bo' Stuff Go
I loved Bo Schembechler. I knew him well. Spent crazy time with him. I even co-wrote his autobiography. For years, I got to feel his wrath, brilliance, passion and affection.
And I am here to say this:
Michigan should stop invoking his name.
As the university begins searching for its next athletic director — and if expectations are to be believed, its next coach — the sentence "he played for Bo" cannot be the deciding factor.
Nor can the phrase "A Michigan Man."

From the Detroit Free Press: Dr. Football Tackles the Latest Hot Topics
This week, we address the Lions, Brady Hoke, Nick Saban, Jameis Winston and more.
Good morning. It's Dr. Football here to answer your pigskin questions. I will hold office hours each week, right here in this rent-free space. First question?
Why are you called "Dr. Football?"
"Johnny Football" was taken.
Why are you starting this midway through the season?
It's a halftime adjustment. Also, I just thought of it.

They say families, as you age, only get together at weddings and funerals. Not true Wednesday night at the Fisher Theatre. Nobody died. Nobody said, "I do." But a whole lot of family was there.

Smokey Robinson. Stevie Wonder. Mary Wilson from the Supremes. Martha Reeves. Duke Fakir. The producers. The songwriters. And, for the first time on a musical stage in a long time in this city, the papa bear of the Motown family, Berry Gordy Jr.
From the Detroit Free Press: Michigan State owns its rival — and its rivalry
EAST LANSING – Devin Gardner was splayed on his back, as stiff as a scarecrow knocked off its stick. Behind him, the Michigan State Spartans were celebrating in the end zone with another of his ill-advised passes, this one taken back for a touchdown and an 18-point lead.
It might as well have been 1800.
All Green. The best team in the state is clearly the best team in the state, and it's no shock that eighth-ranked MSU continued its dominance in this rivalry Saturday afternoon, winning, 35-11.

Tigers swept by Orioles
SHOCKTOBER
mitch albom: Winter comes early again and who knows what this team will look like next year
Winter began to creep into the city just after six o'clock Sunday night, courtesy of a man named Nelson Cruz - or, as he is known around here, Death. Cruz, the Baltimore Orioles' designated killer, swatted a David Price pitch in the sixth inning of a scoreless game and lifted it toward rightfield. It appeared, at first, to be a harmless foul.
