From the Detroit Free Press: Ferguson's story a tale of two colors
Ferguson was never just about Ferguson.
If it were, black Americans wouldn't have said, "Here we go again." And white Americans wouldn't have done the same.
If it were, Michael Brown's memory would not be placed alongside dead black men he never knew. And Darren Wilson's testimony would not be lumped in with white officers long before him.
If Ferguson were just about Ferguson, angry white people might not scream they are "sick and tired" of black people blaming the system, and would see a law officer who shot an unarmed suspect and be concerned.

From the Detroit Free Press: Erasing Bill Cosby with the speed of light
Ever since Bill Cosby was accused by one, then two, then four, then almost uncountable women of everything from unwelcome kissing to flat-out rape, the one reaction I can't quite figure is TV Land pulling "The Cosby Show" reruns from its air.
You'll recall "The Cosby Show" as America's most popular program for five straight years in the 1980s. It portrays a well-to-do African-American family dealing with folksy sitcom issues. Cosby is the funny, loving, often-perplexed father.
It was a show. Cosby was acting.

From the Detroit Free Press: Dr. Football has cure for MSU, Patriots and snow
The Doctor is in. Grab a turkey leg.
Hey, Doc. Let's get right to it. Pats-Lions!
OK. You driving?
No. Who's going to win?
Oh. Well, we all want the Lions, if only to prove that last week was a mirage. But their receivers aren't getting enough separation, their quarterback isn't finding the passing lanes, their running game is erratic, and their road victories so far are against bad teams (Jets, Vikings). Foxboro is a tough place to play. Also, there's this fella they have up there named Brady.

mitch albom: Winter comes early again and who knows what this team will look like next year
Winter began to creep into the city just after six o'clock Sunday night, courtesy of a man named Nelson Cruz - or, as he is known around here, Death. Cruz, the Baltimore Orioles' designated killer, swatted a David Price pitch in the sixth inning of a scoreless game and lifted it toward rightfield. It appeared, at first, to be a harmless foul.
