mitch albom: Winter comes early again and who knows what this team will look like next year
Winter began to creep into the city just after six o'clock Sunday night, courtesy of a man named Nelson Cruz - or, as he is known around here, Death. Cruz, the Baltimore Orioles' designated killer, swatted a David Price pitch in the sixth inning of a scoreless game and lifted it toward rightfield. It appeared, at first, to be a harmless foul.

From the Detroit Free Press: Dr. Football on U-M coach search, Eric Ebron woes
Hey, Dr. Football. Where have you been?
Digesting a turkey.
Thanksgiving?
No, the Michigan-Ohio State game.
Speaking of that, who's playing quarterback for Ohio State?
Last I heard, they were checking to see whether Troy Smith had any eligibility left.
Hey, Dr. Football. Are the Lions for real?
Of course they're for real. You can touch them and everything. What dimension do YOU live in?
No. I meant are they a playoff team?

From the Detroit Free Press: Radiothon a chance to help less fortunate in city
Why all the charity stuff?"
Someone asked me that at an airport. He meant no harm. He just couldn't understand why, as a sports writer, I would get so involved in other people's problems.
Why all the charity stuff? It's a question I will think about all day today. Really. I mean ALL DAY. By the time you read this, I likely will have been talking for a few hours. On the radio. By the time you wrap a fish in this newspaper or delete the link from your screen, I still will have been talking for hours more. On the radio.

From the Detroit Free Press: Why Brady Hoke joins Brandon on sideline
The other shoe dropped. The coach who was supposed to be the savior, brought in by the athletic director who was supposed to be the savior, is now history, just like the man who hired him.
Michigan football, the Brady Hoke/Dave Brandon edition, is officially closed for business.
The team itself is as open as it has been in decades.
