All the King's Horses and all the King's Men...

Is the world about to witness a factional dogfight that will make Polokwane (the ANC's last elective conference in 2007 that dethroned ex-President Thabo Mbeki) look like an afternoon walk in the park. The African National Congress (ANC) is about to hold its elective conference to decide who leads the party in the general election fixed for 2014. Daggers are drawn for the incumbent, President Jacob Zuma, who is determined to have a second term. But with his enemies gathering for war in addition to a media backlash, will Zuma, the man who has shown himself to be a wily political survivor with help from friends, survive?

Public funds: How are they being spent?

Unaccountable spending of public funds has become a trend in Jacob Zuma's government. Over R 250 million has been spent on the president's private residence at Nkandla and it is not clear where this money has come from. Lindiwe Sisulu and Tina Joemat-Pettersson, both Ministers in Jacob Zuma's government have been accused of recklessly spending public funds. Sisulu travelled in a luxury Gulfstream jet more than 200 times between Pretoria and Cape Town, at the cost of R200,000 a trip, when she was Minister of Defence. Joemat-Peterson is accused of spending public money on her own family and on personal holidays. Joemat-Pettersson incurred over R150,000 for return flights for her two children and their au pair from Sweden to South Africa in January 2010. According to the Public Protector, this was in violation of the provisions of paragraph 3.4 of chapter six of the Ministerial Handbook.

Pay BOND or Play BOND

Jacob Zuma is accused of using more than R200m of taxpayers' money to expand and refurbish his home. He claims he took out a bond but Belinda Benson, the property manager of Ingonyama Trust, the body that administers Zulu tribal land says no bond had been registered against the property. The deed document obtained from the deeds office showed the Ingonyama Trust as the owner of Zuma's property. The satrical site Hayibo reports: As Jacob Zuma is accused of lying over having a bond on his Nkandla home, the ANC has defended the President, saying that he was referring to his box-set of James Bond films. ";He never said he had a mortgage, he said he had a Bond. Zapiro's cartoon takes it further showing Jacob in hiding "A man's home is his bunker"

Nkandla: My word is my BOND

Jacob Zuma initially accused of using public money to build his mansion at Nkandla is accused of misleading Parliament when he said he had a mortgage bond. Press reports shows no evidence of such a bond. Mac Maharaj, Zuma's spokesman said "We reaffirm that President Zuma does indeed have a bond on the residence with one of the national banks and he is still paying it off monthly". The FNB Bank deny that this is possible

Will Blade be joining Movember?

Zapiro's cartoon has Blade Nzimande, Secretray General of the SACP (South African Communist Party) looking like Stalin with a Movember moustache ( During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.)  after he supports the call for new draconian legislation to protect President Jacob Zuma against insults. He said a law preventing people from insulting a sitting president is more than necessary because white South Africans have shown very little respect for blacks and their cultures.
