Jacob Zuma's Scrapyard of Appointees
The Constitutional Court has severely criticized President Jacob Zuma's decision to appoint Menzi Simelane as the main State Proscecutor. Simelane appealed an earlier judgment by the Supreme Court of Appeal that found Zuma's decision to appoint him "irrational" and "unconstitutional". Zapiro's cartoon shows that Zuma does not have a very good record of appointing his buddies to important positions in government. Incompetenece should not be criteria

ANC Nomination Process Begins
The ANC leadership battle is in full swing to decide whether President Jacob Zuma will be retained or removed from office at the elective conference in December 2012. While the ANC top brass are fighting and "fiddling", the country is "burning". There have been wildcat strikes in all areas of the South African mining industry including , platinum, gold, iron ore diamond mines and coal. As many as 75,000 miners, or 15 percent of the industry's workforce in South Africa, are on strike, undermining already shaky growth. Violent clashes during a six-week stoppage at platinum producer Lonmin resulted in the death of 46 people.

Whistleblower Photographer Photoshopped out of a Job
The South African newspaper "The Citizen" has dismissed a photographer who drew attention to the paper's doctored cover picture of the suicide attack in Kabul on social media. The photo, supplied by Agence France-Presse, was digitally altered prior publication to remove two bodies depicted in the original. A decision was made during the editorial conference the day before to run the picture in question, but to blur the bodies, in the same manner as was done during television broadcasts of the aftermath of the attack. This directive was not carried out. Instead the bodies were digitally cloned out of the photo. Recently hired Johann Hattingh, an experienced photorapher was so disgusted that he tweeted the facts. The Citizen recated by terminating his contract for bringing the paper into disrepute.

Keep Calm, Go Zumnam Style
When appearing in court to face corruption charges, Julius Malema appears to be following a similar style to Jacob Zuma. To illustrate this, Zapiro basis his cartoon on the latest dance craze "OPPA Gangnam style ", which has just broken the Guinness World Record on Youtube as being the most popular. "Gangnam Style" had over 6 million views per day. Rather than Gangnam style it becomes Zumnam style - dress classy and dance cheesy.

Which Works Better in Fighting Crime in South Africa?
Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa reported the annual national crime statistics. The statistics were a mixed bag, with business robberies rising 7.5%, while murders fell 3.1%, contact crimes were down 3.5%, house robberies fell 1.9% and car hijackings dropped 11.9%. While it showed some improvement there was plenty of sceptism from analysts and the public. The opposition DA said "The current method of collecting, collating and reporting South Africa's crime statistics means few people trust the figures reported by the minister each year. Additionally, the statistics are out of date by the time they are released, which in turn seriously reduces their usefulness.
