Mandela Day 2013 - An Act of Kindness

Mandela Day began on July 18, 2009, on his 91st birthday. In June 2008, he called on new leaders to relieve his generation from the burdens of leadership. Mandela Day was ratified by the United Nations four years ago. It serves to encourage citizens across the globe to give at least 67 minutes — a minute for each year of Mandela's service — of their day to improving the world. In this cartoon, Zapiro as part of the spirit of Mandela Day, gives the government corruption a break, by looking at the the recent case of collusion in the private sector.

Zuma's Sheltered Employment

Zuma's cabinent reshuffle should have been an opportunity for him to eliminate poor government performance, and replace incompetent poor performing ministers with diligent and trustworthy ones. Instead some of the most incompetent and very controversial ministers have managed to survive. Namely Minister of Agriculture Tina Joemat-Petterson who has limped from one controversy to another since her appointment to the agriculture portfolio in 2009. Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa whose police force has become increasingly violent. State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele who apparently failed to detect the revolt in the mines that led to the Marikana massacre. Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu and Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, who have both failed in so many areas.

News Item: Flaws found in Mandela Currency

A grave-digging dispute has added to the bitter family feuding, over sex, money and power, among Nelson Mandela's heirs which has set South Africans on edge as Nelson Mandela, lies in hospital near death, during the past month. While he was hugely effective at bridging South Africa's divisions between traditionalism and modernity, his family are now making these rifts worse. AS the frail 94-year-old continues to recover from an acute lung infection, a number of undignified money-making ventures bearing the Mandela name have surfaced.
