Distribution by ANC of "Food Parcels" on Tax Payers Money
Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has received three complaints (one from the DA and two from Agang SA) against the ANC for allegedly using state resources for its election campaign. “The DA complaint relates to the by-election in Tlokwe [Potchefstroom] last year. The party alleges that food parcels were used in the ANC campaign ahead of the by-election,” Agang SA’s complaint relates to allegations that food parcels were used in the ANC campaign in the Western Cape and that the Gauteng provincial government used ANC-related colours on its billboard.”

Where Are the NO-GO areas? KZN - Zumaland
African National Congress (ANC) deputy president Jacob Zuma’s chief lieutenants in KwaZulu-Natal—who vow to take on the party’s national leadership over its “clumsy” handling of Zuma. ANC commission of inquiry paints a hair-raising picture of intolerance and factionalism in KwaZulu-Natal and a systematic witch-hunt against perceived opponents of Zuma. The submissions to the inquiry showed that people in KZN are ready to kill because the stakes are very high for them and a number of businessmen have invested in the project to elevate Zuma to the presidency. There is a programme to take out progressive comrades in KwaZulu-Natal, which at the moment may take the form of political discrediting and sidelining, but there is also the possibility of bloodshed.

Free Gary Tyler
An early Zapiro cartoon published in the Nation on Free Gary Tyler.
Gary Tyler (born July 1958) has been a prisoner in Louisiana since 1975, when he was convicted at age 17 of the 1974 shooting death of a 13-year-old white boy. Originally sentenced to death, Tyler was the youngest prisoner on death row. The Fifth Circuit US Court of Appeals ruled the trial was "fundamentally unfair". Tyler's cause has been taken up by human rights organizations, as well as many other supporters, including a range of sports figures and organizations in 2007

Vote NO to Corruption says Ronnie Kasrils
Former Intelligence Minister Ronnie Kasrils in Mandela's government, revealed at the launch of the Vote NO campaign that he had not voted for the ANC in the 2009 election, and apologised for not speaking up earlier about things like Aids denialism. Kasrils pointed out that the difference between the mistakes of former presidents Thabo Mbeki and Nelson Mandela compared to Jacob Zuma, was that his predecessors were not motivated by personal greed or self-enrichment. "It could have been decisions of political misjudgments, but not greed. It's vastly different." President Jacob Zuma says he has been taken aback by the 'vote no' campaign. President Zuma says he is surprised that someone like Kasrils can support such a disenfranchising campaign. Kasrils campaign has irritated many of his former comrades. President Zuma says he will find time to engage with Kasrils on this matter. "Zuma said He himself fought for the right for people to vote and people have got a right to vote in any other way. It’s a very funny view that he has. He was not just a comrade to me - he was a friend, but I think over the years he has drifted to some world that I don’t understand. Maybe at some point I'll have an opportunity to meet him and engage him. He knows I can engage and I know he can engage as well"

Virginia Tech Gun Shooting Massacre
Virginia Tech Shooting Leaves 33 Dead. Thirty-three people were killed on the campus of Virginia Tech in what appears to be the deadliest shooting rampage in American history, according to federal law enforcement officials. Many of the victims were students shot in a dorm and a classroom building. Witnesses described scenes of mass chaos and unimaginable horror as some students were lined up against a wall and shot. Others jumped out of windows to escape, or crouched on floors to take cover. The 22-caliber Walther semi-automatic pistol used by Cho Seung-Hui in the Virginia Tech massacre was purchased on the Internet from a Green Bay, Wisconsin-based Web site. Cho bought the pistol with a credit card for $267 on Feb. 2 and picked it up one week later, at JND Pawnbrokers, near the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Va.

Secret Party Funding
Lobbying happens in South Africa, both in the public lobbies and in private. There is a case for disclosure and regulation. Secret funding leads to corruption as well as the weakening of democratic practice. Those who seek to influence policy do so in secret. Where there is an arms deal – or a nuclear power station fleet that will dwarf it – there will be lobbying. Whether it is patent reform in medicine or emissions standards for industry, affected parties will want to sway the final decision. Those with the reach and money will never be satisfied with only the public-comment process entrenched in our system. They will seek to make their voices heard above the din, and there is no reason they should not.

"Sidikwe! Vukani!” Vote NO Campaign
Cape Town - Former deputy health minister Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge has explained the motivations behind the Sidikiwe Vukani "Vote No" campaign, which was launched on Tuesday. She said the campaign is designed to encourage greater public participation in the upcoming national and provincial elections. She and former intelligence minister Ronnie Kasrils launched the Sidikiwe (We are fed up) - Vukani (Wake up) campaign at the University of the Witwatersrand, calling on registered voters to either vote tactically for minority parties or spoil their ballot paper by writing "NO" across it. The aim is to give notice to the ANC and DA that voters should no longer be "taken for granted". Madlala-Routledge said that the campaign urges those who are disgruntled to "use their vote, which is a very powerful tool that we have, to express their disillusionment". The campaign is designed to encourage greater public participation in the upcoming national and provincial elections. Zuma told the the SABC that he hoped he would get an opportunity to talk to the former intelligence minister and African National Congress stalwart about the campaign. Zuma said "He himself fought for the right for people to vote and people have got a right to vote in any other way. It’s a very funny view that he has. He was not just a comrade to me - he was a friend, but I think over the years he has drifted to some world that I don’t understand.

"Sidikwe! Vukani!” Vote NO Campaign

"Vote NO" is not a "NO vote" Campaign
Due to the proportional voting system in South Africa, it is felt that spoiling ones ballot paper is still a valid choice open to the voter - and a better one than simply staying away from the polls. It is essential that voters keep participating in the democratic process and don't just opt out, hence their notion of a tactical vote or, if one really can't endorse any of the parties on offer, a spoilt ballot. The "Vote No" campaign is therefore meant to encourage disheartened voters to go to the polls on May 7 and not a "no vote" campaign. In the unprecedented move, Ronnie Kasrils (former intelligence minister in the Mandela govvernment) and Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge (former deputy health ministerin the Mbeki government) are urging voters to spoil their votes as means to express their disapproval of the fraud and corruption that is rampant within the ANC. This comes as gutting corruption scandals continue to relentlessly strike the nation so torrentially that people on the ground have been left wanting, mistrusting, frustrated and defeated. Those behind the campaign "Vote NO" feel "A vote for the African National Congress (ANC) today is a vote for the Guptas, a vote for people who are parasitic on the state," Signatories to the campaign include former intelligence minister Ronnie Kasrils, former deputy health minister Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge, former Unisa vice-chancellor Barney Pityana, author Breyten Breytenbach, cartoonist Zapiro and academics Sampie Terreblanche, Devan Pillay and Karl von Holdt.

What is Expected from Vavi after the Cosatu dispute and ANC mediation
Cosatu has for the past few months been disintegrating, destroyed by divisions brought about by the suspension of Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi. The ANC has been involved in mediating between the factions. last-minute intervention by ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa , who headed an African National Congress task team set up to assist the Congress of SA Trade Unions resolve its internal problems and proposed to postpone any action against either Mr Vavi or Numsa and other rebel unions until AFTER next month’s election. Vavi had been suspended from the trade union eight months ago for having an affair with a junior employee. returned to work after the High Court in Johannesburg ruled that his suspension be set aside enabling him to return to his postion as secretary-general. At the time of suspension, Numsa (the metalworkers' union) opposed Vavi's suspension and has been at loggerheads with Cosatu and the ANC over the issue. They decided not to support the ANC in this year's general election, while Cosatu has always partnered the ANC in the tripartite alliance. With this mediation, does the ANC expect Vavi to support their cause? While Vavi is not part of Numsa he has denied reports that he would support the ANC.
