Jacob Zuma's Ice Bucket Challenge

EFF calls on Zuma to 'pay back the money'. EFF members became increasingly raucous before Baleka Mbete (Speaker in Parliament) ordered the session to be suspended. EFF MPs chanted while Baleka Mbete ordered them to leave the National Assembly. Was this Jacob Zuma's Ice Bucket or "Cold Water "Challenge Challenge? Note: The origins of the idea of dumping cold water on one's head to raise money for charity are unclear and have been attributed to multiple sources. From mid-2013 to early 2014, a challenge of unknown origin often called the "Cold Water Challenge" became popular on social media in areas of the northern United States. The task usually involved the option of either donating money to cancer research or having to jump into cold water.

Tourism in Africa Effected by EBOLA Virus

The outbreak of the Ebola virus in West Africa is hitting many African economies where they are most vulnerable—the tourism industry—as travelers reconsider trips to places as far away as Kenya and South Africa. Fear of the virus is rattling would-be tourists to the continent and is underlining the risks some associate with travel to Africa. Anxious African governments have potentially amplified those worries with their own draconian measures to keep the virus from breaching borders. According to Southern African Tourism, 1500 tourists from Thailand, who were due to visit South Africa between this month and October, have cancelled their trips and smaller groups from Malaysia, Hong Kong, China and Japan have followed suit.At the same time  Médecins Sans Frontières chief claims the response to the Ebola virus catastrophe is "almost zero", with nations most concerned with self-protection.

Jacob Zuma and those Spy Tapes

After resisting handing over "spy tapes" — recordings of phone calls that ostensibly got President Jacob Zuma off corruption charges for almost five years, it was surprising how quickly the president’s legal team fell apart at the Supreme Court of Appeal. In less than half an hour Mr Zuma’s counsel, Kemp J Kemp SC, conceded he had no argument for keeping the tapes out of the hands of the Democratic Alliance (DA).

King David School - Zionist or Else? Case of Josh Broomberg

Josh Broomberg, Deputy head of King David Victory Park (KDVP) and member of Team SA debating team was seen on Facebook, draped in a Palestinian scarf ("Keffiyeh") as well as a Palestinian Flag in the form of a badge, with the caption being "Team South Africa wearing Palestinian badges and Keffiyehs to show our opposition to the human rights violations carried out against the people of Palestine. As a reaction to this posting a petition was set up by a group of parents at KDVP requesting the removal of Josh Broomberg from all leadership positions and his Honours revoked. The petition has attracted over 2000 signatures and many comments from different segments of South Africa's Jewish community. Two other counter petitions with over 7000 signatures were set up demonstrating a lively debate amonst the 70,000 strong South African jewish population. Broomberg himself has now responded, taking to Facebook to defend his message. "While I apologise for the hurt we seem to have caused, I do not apologise for standing with Palestine on this issue."  EWN reported another case involving a King David High School,  Linksfield, a matric pupil  complained to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) for allegedly being bullied and victimised over his views on Gaza. The teenager's family says after being accused of hating Israel, the boy was singled out in a school newsletter without being named, forbidden to wear a certain blazer and eventually resigned as a student leader. The Times reported that the student said  “If  you are critical of Israel once, you will be written off by the leadership at King David for the rest of your school career”.

Jacob Zuma's Nkandla architect - Escape Goat?

While Zuma has repeatedly claimed ignorance of the government’s decisions about Nkandla, Zuma’s private architect, Makhanya could start spilling the beans as he tries to defend himself as he was a  key intermediary between the department and the president and may contradict Zuma’s version and put him in the firing line. But is he the SUI's Scape goat? The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) this week slapped a R155-million noose around  Minenhle Makhanya’s neck. He is accused of inflating the costs of work done at Zuma’s private Nkandla home. The SIU is claiming for 27 items showing cost-inflation, including: - More than R60-million allocated for civil and electrical work – but without details of where this money went. - Work valued at over R68-million that has been labelled “not a security requirement.” This includes VIP parking and the controversial "fire-pool" at almost R4-million. The Public Works Department also has a lot to answer for.

Cyril Ramaphosa and the Marikana Massacre

Two years after the Marikana massecre, former Lonmin Director and now deputy President of South Africa. Cyril Ramaphosa is on the stand at the Farlam Inquiry. Accused of being a “liar” and motivated by his financial interests rather than miner's needs,  Ramaphosa  told the Marikana Commission that if Lonmin had taken a more flexible approach towards miners' needs, things could have turned out differently. When things got out of hand, Ramaphosa  asked his ANC comrades to intervene in the turmoil.  Some believe that with  Ramaphosa's background as former union leader he could have done more to help resolve the tensions during the strike. The Marikana issue has been a blemish in an otherwise spotless reputation enjoyed by the ANC politician and businessman,  The commission is investigating the deaths of 44 people during strike-related violence at Lonmin's platinum mining operations at Marikana in August 2012. Thirty-four people, mostly striking mineworkers, were shot dead in a clash with police, over 70 were wounded, and over 250 arrested on August 16, 2012. Police were apparently trying to disarm and disperse them. In the preceding week, 10 people, including two policemen and the two Lonmin security guards, were killed.

Seriti Commission Inquiry into Arms Deal Corruption

The Seriti Commission of Inquiry has become  a joke with the flakey testimonies, omission of crucial evidence, questionable resignations and incessant time wasting. The Seriti Commission of inquiry is investigating alleged corruption in the country's multi-billion rand arms procurement deal. South Africa spend up to R70 billion on military equipment in the late 1990s and early 2000s. After numerous accusations of corruption and accusations that go right up to Zuma himself, President Jacob Zuma set up the Seriti Commission to investigate these allegations in 2011.

The Story Behind Pallo Jordan's PhD

Pallo Jordan, who goes by the title Dr is regarded as one of South Africa's foremost intellectuals and an ANC stalwart. He is widely regarded inside and outside academic circles as a leading intellectual. In a recent Sunday Times investigation, it was found that he had no formal academic qualifications, while his official CV, as it appears on the Government Communications and Information System's website and elsewhere, is titled, "Zweledinga Pallo Jordan, Dr". Jordan suggested in an SMS that he had made some kind of Faustian pact with himself – furthermore allegedly trying to make a deal with the journalist to drop the story.
