Open Mic!!!

I received a ton of mail last week from teen writers everywhere who LOVED my Open Mic feature, so it's back by popular demand!

To participate, pull out your poems, short story, and novel excerpts and post them in the comment section of this post for everyone to read! Don't forget – 300 words or less. And feel free to post even if you're not a teen!

P.S. Since I am currently under a Twitter embargo in an effort to finish book three in the Prophecy series, I'd appreciate it if anyone can post...

Would Lia Wear This?

Okay, maybe not in Prophecy of the Sisters.

But by the time we get to Guardian of the Gate? Hellz, yeah!

Seriously. How gorgeous is this gownnn?

Let me know if you guys come across any amazing Victorian gown, jewelry, houses… Anything! I'll try to post them!

P.S. The contest entries are being tabulated as we speak. The Random Number Generator will choose and I'll try to post the lucky winner tomorrow along with this week's Open Mic (prepare thy writing samples!!)!

P.P.S. Find out more info on...

Guardian of the Gate Theme Debut

As most of you know, my seventeen-year-old son, Kenneth, is an aspiring film score composer. At the beginning of 2009, Kenneth approached me with the idea of creating a film score for my book, Prophecy of the Sisters. Of course, my first response was, "But it's a BOOK!"

To which he said, "Yeah, right. I get that. But I think it'd be cool to try and create a score for it like it's a movie."

And then the light bulb went on, and I realized once again that my son is brilliant. Not that, yanno, I'm...

Aw, You Shouldn't Have!

That's what people will say if you give them a great book for the holidays.

But they won't mean it. What they'll mean is, "I'm so glad you DID!"

Seriously, there IS no better gift than a book, so in honor of Black Friday and the upcoming holiday season, I'm presenting my list of Best Books to Give as Gifts.

Prophecy of the Sisters will NOT be on this list because 1) that would be cheesy, 2) if you're here on my website you've probably already read it or plan to read it, and 3) there are so...

Thank you, Poland!

For Polish songstress, Ania, and her awesome band PLUS my amazing Polish publisher who sent me this music video clip this morning.

How gorgeous is this and how EXACTLY does it seem to mimic the Prophecy of the Sisters storyline? I know most of you probably can't understand what she's saying, but seriously! Just watch and listen. It's like it was made for Prophecy!

Open Mic, Anyone?

One of the biggest, coolest things that's happened to me in the two years since Prophecy of the Sisters sold to Little Brown, is that I've been contacted by countless teens from all over the world. Often, our discussions about the book turn into discussions about friends, guys (or girls!), family, life, and writing.

I'm not surised that so many of the teens who have reached out to me because of Prophecy are aspiring writers, but what DOES surprise me is how amazing so much of the writing is...

Happy Holiday Swag Contest!

As promised, today is the day I unveil the slick new swag for my holiday contest. This swag bag is chock-full of goodies you can keep for yourself, give as gifts for the holidays, or use in a blog giveaway.

In my opinion, there IS no better gift than a book, so for this contest, I've featured some of my favorite reads. It was REALLY hard to choose just this many! So to compensate, I'll be listing in an upcoming blog post my own Best Books to Give as Gifts for various age groups...

With L-O-V-E

First of all, I want to say thank you for the outpouring of love I received after my last post. So many of you mentioned feeling misunderstood or alone, but you also spoke of hope and and patience and love and the willingness to walk the line between growing as a human being and accepting yourselves the way you are. And though only a few of you commented here, I received many, many private emails from people who found comfort in my post, and I, in turn, found comfort in your words and...
