Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Something to Lighten the Mood
After spending TEN HOURS finishing my Christmas shopping yesterday (this is what happens when you are CHEAP and insist on getting the best price for everything on your list – you have to go to a gazillion stores!) and coming face-to-face with all the stressed out people, rage-filled drivers, and exhausted store clerks (my hat's off to you guys. seriously.), I thought we could all use a good laugh.
So, for everyone out there (like me) struggling to pull it together for the holidays – and as a...

Prophecy Fans Rule!
One of the coolest things about having your work published is watching it find impassioned fans. In the beginning, when your book first comes out, most of those fans are people you know, either through the blogosphere or in real life, but as time passes, if you're very, very lucky, you might be contacted by people you've never met who were inspired by your book.
And that is something I really can't even put words to.
It's been truly amazing to be contacted from people all over the world who...

Open Mic!!
Sheesh! The weeks go so fast! Can you believe it's time for another Open Mic?
I know many of you are probably busy with holiday stuff, but Open Mic has become THE most popular feature on my site, and I'm loathe to forgo it for those of you who like posting your writing. It's such a great feeling to get feedback on your work, isn't it?
So here ya go! Remember the rules; any poem or story excerpt of 300 words or less. And if you post one of your pieces, you have to read and comment at least one...

Only a couple more days until Winter Break guys, so here's a little something just for fun.
It must say something about my state of mind right now that of lots of life-metaphors come to mind when I watch this episode of South Park…
Enjoy!

The Victorian/Gothic is Back – With a Twist
I can't tell you how totally psyched I am to see so many awesome, Victorian/Gothic films hitting the big screen. It's a lush, sensuous era that lends itself incredibly well to dark fantasy – one of the many reasons I set the Prophecy of the Sisters trilogy in that time period. The first two below are how I always picture the Prophecy movie – sexy and dark as opposed to Jane Austen-ish.
Check out these hot new movies that are coming soon;
The Wolfman
Season of the Witch
These producers/directors...

Open Mic! And a New Rule!
Okay, guys, time for this week's Open Mic!
Post your poem, short story, or novel excerpt of 300 words or less for everyone to enjoy.
I'm going to try and comment on them all like I normally do, but I am really in the writing cave trying to finish up with book three in the Prophecy series, so no promises. That said, I DO promise to READ every one, and I'm instituting a new rule as follows; if you post, you have to read and comment as least one other entry, k? I think that's fair, and it will...

You're Not the Boss of Me
"What would you do if a friend's parent told you not to read a specific book?"
This was the question posed by Ellen Hopkins to a table of teenagers at the 2009 Anderson's YA Conference.
And yeah. I know that was back in September. But the thing is, the issue of "appropriate" content keeps coming up as it relates to Ellen's work. Some school districts and libraries are canceling her scheduled visits because certain groups of parent's don't want their kids to be privy to the subject matter of...
