The Agony and the Ecstasy

As I dive further into my new WIP, I'm reminded of everything I love (and hate) about writing a first draft.

It goes something like this;

0 - 10,000 Words aka The Honeymoon; Oh. Em. Gee. I LOVE this idea! It's the BEST IDEA EVER! It's going to be a HUGE success! There is nothing in the world like it! I want to work on it foreveeeeeeeer!

10,000 - 20,000 Words aka Writer's Regret; What was I thinking? This totally sucks. It's going nowhere fast. I have no plot and passe characters. Every word feels l

Ninja Madness!!

First, an apology!

I know I haven't posted in the past few days, but I have a good excuse.

Really!

I've been working on a little endeavor with my fellow writer and good friend, Lisa Mantchev, author of the upcoming book, Eyes Like Stars.

Our new plan to takeover the world is called Word Ninjas, Ink, and basically we're going to karate chop you into a bazillion pieces and make alphabet soup, followed by cupcakes that Lisa and I will smoosh in everyone's hair.

JKJKJKJK!

Word Ninjas, Ink

WORD NINJAS, INK. is a collective

This week's Under the Radar book is Waiting to Score, by J.E. MacLeod.

There's more than one reason why I might not have picked up this book had I not had the good fortune to receive an ARC. Let me count the ways;

not a hockey fan
not a sports fan of any kind
from the summary, sounded kind of like a "guy book" (I know. shal-low.)cover threw me - at first, I thought the guy was in a space suit. I couldn't figure out what that had to do with hockey until I realized that it was a hockey mask. Duh.

Turns

Of GPS, Not Forgetting to Breathe, and House Love

So today was supposed to be my second Under-the-Radar post, but I had such a hellish day yesterday that I just can't seem to get my act together.

In lieu of that, I'll just tell you about yesterday! Yay!

So, I was supposed to go into the City to meet with my editor and record an audio interview. My son was invited, too, since he's been composing the Prophecy score, and we started off at 8:30am right after I dropped off my youngest at school. We were all set and had even traded cars with my mom, wh

Music Monday - 30 Seconds to Mars

30 Seconds to Mars is one of my favorite bands. Their music is filled with the kind of angsty, I've-Had-Enough sentiment that everyone needs now and then to move on in life and love.

Plus, actor and lead singer, Jared Leto, is pretty easy on the eyes.

Just sayin'.

This song was my anthem when my husband and I first split up, mostly because of one line;

This is who I really am.

'Nuff said.

Happy listening. And never forget.

Be who you are. [image error]

Under the Radar; Sliding on the Edge

While I like to consider myself an open-minded person, there's one place in life where I find I am often as shallow as everyone else.

Ready? Wait for it...

Covers! Press! Buzz!

One of the things I've been most excited about this past year is discovering some truly great writing talent in unexpected places. That is, coming across some gems-of-a-book that I might not normally pick up, either because the cover wasn't immediately appealing or just I'd never heard anything about it. It's not a conscious

100 Days!!!

So... notice anything different about me?

No, it's not my hair.

And I haven't lost any weight (sadly).

It's my widget! It's at 100 Days!!

Isn't it bee-yoo-tiful?

I know it still seems like a long time away, but when you've waited almost two years to have your book published, 100 days seems positively fleeting!

On another overly-excitable note, author Sarah Rees Brennan, was nice enough to let me know that there is a massive poster of the Prophecy of the Sisters cover hanging alongside Twilight and The

Homeschooling

I decided to take this week’s blog and talk a little bit about homeschooling.

If you don’t already know, I have been homeschooled for a few months now, and can safely say it is one of the best decisions I have made my entire life. Let me tell you why.

Up until about a year or two ago, I had been a major jock, playing baseball and soccer for the high school, and any other sport I could find. I didn’t really have much to me, I liked sports, and that was it. I didn’t have many inte

Cover Love

Anyone who has followed my book's journey this past couple of years knows that it has been a loooong one. By the time my book hits the shelves, it will have been two years, almost exactly, since it was sold.

I have a hard time waiting for Fridays. Imagine my suffering this past couple of years!

Seriously, though. Along the path from sell to publication, there are certain benchmarks that keep you busy and remind you that, in fact, your book is going to be published. And there is no benchmark more e
